    for whatever reason, I crush my big finger from the hand behind my back between my body and the pole...:-/

      Yes, this isn't super out of the ordinary. It's okay for it to have some discomfort but we don't want it "in pain". I recommend making sure you're really pushing out of the bottom arm and then once you are able to get both legs extended and feel secure with grip, I tend to lean my hips away from the pole a little. but I too always feel pressure on that big finger too. Hope thats helpful!
