Went to my first dragsters race today. I made the mistake of not wearing ear protection because I didn't think they would be that loud. Boy, was I wrong. 12 hours later, my ears are still ringing! If you haven't been to a race in person, YOU HAVE TO GO!!! It's literally the most unbelievable feeling when they take off and there's nothing I have felt that's anywhere close to that, ever! I will go back every single year and I will be paying that extra $100 to get the pit pass so I can meet the racers. The entire ground shakes and THE AIR VIBRATES when they take off!! They had 4 year olds and 80 year olds and every age in between. I hear nighttime is better but I couldn't stay that long. It's the only thing I can only take so much of before I'm completely drained of energy because of the sheer power of these things! Absolutely unbelievable!

I was standing next to one of those things when it started up. There was a db drag event in the next tent, with systems going as loud as 150db. When the dragster started, it completely drowned out everything from the db drag tent :P
+MrChanfu The size of the steering wheel means nothing when you're able to alter the gear ratios. If you want slower or faster steering you change the gears. A larger wheel would be very difficult to maneuver in the cockpit.

Once those light, the green light comes up 0.4 (four tenths) of a second afterwards. If you pause the video right as he launches, you will see the green light. If he left early, you would see red instead.
I watched it nearly frame by frame, and I did catch a frame that had both the yellow and green lights on simultaneously, and he had already started moving about 2 frames before the green came on, during yellow. Or at least his helmet shakes hard, it's hard to tell as it gets really blurry but it really seems like he was moving before green.
He may have actually moved before it started, but that can be okay. There is essentially a "beam" that goes across the lane for when the driver is staged (lined up and ready to race, this is signified by the lights at the very top of the tree.) Technically, as long as that sensor is broken (he still has a wheel there), he hasn't false started. The car can move, granted it's a tiny fraction of a second, before he has left far enough that the sensor and beam then see each other.. George Rosebush
Shaun Langdons run lets you know how badass a nitro motor can be by just growling for more fuel and eating up the race track. That car accelerates really hard. The video gets me hard.

This vid is better than Viagra or any woman could ever be. I was addicted at Lions Drag Strip when I was about 12 years old and today at almost 70 I am still getting off on nitro fumes and running hemi engines. NHRA Drag racing will generate between 3.8 - 4.7G on take off for a good run, and approx 3 Reverse-G when the chutes are popped. Anything higher then 4.7G will cause a persons vision to black-out due to lose of blood. Anything higher then 6G is guaranteed pass out territory without a suit.
