Man I love all types of racing. I grew in in Pomona, CA as far back as I can remember, the Winternationals was a family “holiday” for us starting on Wednesday before the weekend. I liked this video, I really feel for the driver wearing those 4 or 5 layer drivers suits, sitting there burning down, even with a cool suit, waiting in the staging lane is a bear in the summertime. Not to mention, being in the suit for however long prior to getting in the car in the pits. Damn near need an IV bag hanging in the cockpit. We got to see a lot of what the driver is doing and going through for 8 long minutes just sitting in the staging lane, for only about 4 seconds (or less) of driving! But in that 4 seconds, a 1000 things are going on. I giggled when he disengaged his harness buckle, been there, done that in other forms of motorsports. 6Pt harnesses hold you in pretty tight, but at 3-5 Gs you somehow get moved in the seat, and then it is really uncomfortable! Loved this video.

Three-four second runs in these cars are unbelievable now days. When I first went to see the Funny cars run many years ago, they were doing 7 seconds down the drag strip. Times have really changed. Thanks much Jim for sharing this too kool video, it gives we arm chair racers just a vague clue of what it might be like to get strapped into one of these monsters and experience the top of the world fear you guys and girls have to overcome to strap yourselves into a rocket and pray you're still alive as it slows to a stop. Just wanted to say.. heart rate would not exceed 140ish for him without a heart attack, as for BP (assuming you did in fact mean blood pressure and not Beats per minute or something) you’re maximum BP without tearing artery walls is about 230ish, over 250 and it’s very dangerous.

Give some respect to the man. That was the tears from the nitro fumes. He does alot of hardwork. Try to become a funny car driver and see? What if someone says the same?
There are no cowards left in pro nitro racing, so it is awesome to see Jim managing the stress' checking every switch six times so that his hands know where to go. Yes, breathing, breathing, He couldn't wait to loosen that damn' harness at the end. Other in-car videos show much the same concentration. But, the engineering? I used to think sprint car steering was crude, but this looks like hell --- yet presumably the engineers in FC know what they are doing --- that steering butterfly looks clunkier than the buggies I built when I was ten -- yet they are in TF dragsters too.

@@kevin_1979 which one is the brake lever. I see him using the one with his right hand when he's staging the car, then he pushes another lever down with his left hand
You know… What would be awesome would be to have filmed the whole experience from the outside as well at the same time. Then replayed back on split screen. This is the closest I will ever come to the RUSH. Thank you for this experience.
That's pretty much how I drive to work each day. It feels and looks just like that but no helmet.
Ok boomer
NeilLB7 I hear you. Just bought a new vette and these videos arent helping me go slower🤣
Im dead lmao 😂
Back when he drove the Worsham car we called him " the commander". Cory Lee started that I believe. Fun times.
Awesome Jim...I hope You won!
For John F and all the other drivers. To get back in one of these after a serious life threatening wreck. All of you are 🐐 for racing. You are always seconds from losing your life
The power in inimaginable. Pure unrelenting power.
11:07of hurry up and wait then 3 seconds of holy shit!!....his breathing gets faster as the start approaches.
Love funny car vids but almost 8 minutes of watching him rub sweat outta his eyes?
JoPa Gaming that was tears from the nitro fumes !!!
Fast forward ?
He never rubbed his eyes.
They were showing you what a driver goes through waiting to run. If you think they are not driving the car, you don't understand Jack about NHRA!
Thats the most popular style of steering wheel for those sub 6 second cars, probably bc they are so light
it is more difficult to over-steer.
video. God the eyes. Holy crap. Thats some intense focus.
Awesome.
Fall nationals are going on right now in Ennis. I’m about 7 miles away. I can hear there burn outs then a couple minutes later hear the run. Corona virus has killed my funds so hearing that just rubbing salt in the wound. Great video good luck and stay safe brother.
Wish I was there ugh 😑
At first Im like, look at Spaceman Spiff. Can you be more nervous? 15min later, the most violent 3 seconds ever.
That was a great insight....thanks
@6.39.
Just amazing
I kept thinking it’s taking forever each time I clicked back 15 seconds to watch it again.
