Awesome list! I love how my red foot comes speeding over to see me when I come by to say hi. If I don't have food for her, she's still pretty happy to get some 'butt scritches'; She's so sweet. Jub-Jub was so small in this footage! her manners have improved a lot since then, she's a much more gentle eater now! 😆
I have a Hermann tortoise and he comes when I call him, and will chase me down if he sees me with food 😂 he is so funny and plays with my toddlers toys too. I never knew a tortoise could have so much personality!
Ah, can't wait to see your tegu becoming your co-host! Great video, shame we don't really have enough room for a tegu ourselves. Plus cats would probably complain...
I would love a Tegu myself and perhaps a couple of snakes but we are dedicated Serval parents to 4 lively and lovely boys and girl and they would have a few issues if we did. Sooo I get my reptile fix with awesome channels like this!
@@juanjoyaborja.3054 It also depends on the separate animals personality. My cat actively stalks my dog, but is terrified of my dads dog who is much sweeter.
I used to have a pet blue tongue named Scales and he was so chill and cute, he loved to wander around and be around humans with their body heat. Because I live in Australia there are also tons of wild blue tongues around and you can just pick them up and pat them and they won’t bite, I always put them back and you shouldn’t take them from the wild but sometimes you have to grab them to move them from busy roads.
Can 100% agree with the tegu's. I have an Argentine Red Tegu and he is one of the most cuddly reptiles I have ever owned in my life. Even being a baby all he ever wants is attention. Most reptiles also would never want your hands near their face. At least mine and the one you showed love their head scratched and pet. Mine actually would rather I sat down with him and just pet his head for 30 minutes rather than me touch his body and such. He is a very lovable and dog like pet. He is very inquisitive and wants to go run around EVERYWHERE. Along with this, very much like a puppy. When I first got him he wanted to kind of nip at everything and wanted to run around everywhere, now though he doesn't even see me as food. I am very excited for him to get bigger and watch him grow :D
Let’s get this man to 2k before the end of the year!!He deserves it! I love your videos, especially the hognose videos. Keep it up, never stop following your dreams and passion, and don’t give up.
Oh! We had a couple of chuckwallas as kids. They were very interested in people, easy going, and witty. We also had a Gila monster who was calm and easy to get along with. Never offered to bite.
When I was a about 14-15, I worked at this small petshop, and one day we got a male panther chameleon that would always run up to greet anyone he saw and try to climb all over people every chance he got. It was pretty surreal.
i agree with this list, i have had the opportunity in azriona to meet a rock iguana named rex, who had an outdoor/indoor enclosure and he would use the doggy door to swap between them.
I am glad to be educated on which reptiles and friendly. I used to have a green iguana. I got him when he was young and handled him gently and regularly. Once I had him settled on my chest or shoulder, he usually calmed down, but if I put my hand in his enclosure, he would try to bite me. Sometimes, I would let him walk around my apartment and if I approached him, he would whip me with his tail. He barely tolerated being handled at best. If I had it to do over again, I would most likely get one of the reptiles from your list
My friend had a boa constrictor who was as friendly as a snake could get. He was so trusting I not only could touch his head but grab it and he would chill.
My Dad had 3 Iguanas in his lifetime. (2 of them werent rock iguanas) I didnt get to meet the 1st one but the other 2 were so tame and cute. They enjoyed being pet would actively seek you out for it.
Tortoise moves quickly. The hare is rolling around laughing at this. A friend had a ball python that was so chill. She would wrap it around her ponytail and walk around in public. She got various reactions from that.
My first iguana was very friendly and loved people. My next one tolerated people. It seems hand feeding them from the moment they hatch makes a huge difference in temperament.
My green iguana actually used the litter box and would push the door open, go outside and come back inside when the sun went down. He was 51/2 feet long and slept with me most of the time
I am seriously binge watching all of your videos! I love that you do your research so well! Your videos are an outlet for so many people who don’t know how to properly care for animals?
Im surprised not to see Red Eared Sliders in there. Mine follow me around, come for food even tho he cant swallow, comes when called, genuinely interested in you, will hang out on my desk and knows where he can and cant be. Its wierd AF and I love them lol
You can just place your mattress on the floor (to prevent falls) and sleep with your redfoots. So, no enclosure even needed. Plus, they get free heat and humidity from you, which is healthy for them and most importantly, prevents pyramiding.
My little bro works at an animal shelter , he adopted 6 leopard geckos that got left there , then moved out and couldn't take them with him leaving my mom to deal with them. We were told they were all female , females can cohab but the enclosure was too small , she got a bigger enclosure but then I figured out one was male. Got him separated. The male is very shy , most the females are just kind of there , one of the females will shit on you as hard as she can if you pick her up , one of the females pretty much wags her tail and does a lil excited dance and tries to climb the glass to get handled.
i got 2 red foot tortoises, they are pretty chill, it's pretty much dog like, some times follow the people on the around the house, run to the food like a dog, and they are pretty cute, also they like to sleep a lot some times and it's pretty cheap to feed them, and are very quiet pets!
Hey love the video! It really is special when reptiles are able to show affection like that. But it seems you've missed one reptile in particular that sadly i don't think is well known in this regard. The Red Eared Slider is a commonly known house pet that are in many cases unfortunately mistreated or let go into the wild bc of lack of knowing how to care for them, but these creatures, if taken care of correctly, can be one of the most expressive and affectionate reptiles I've ever seen! I'm using my turtle, Lyla, who's a very sweet girl, as the basis for this example: She didn't immediately show affection when i got her as a baby, rather being shy and very skittish. It was about a year until she started to be comfortable around me and my father. We tried giving her attention for every time we fed her, hoping she'd be more comfortable with us touching her shell. She would stop running back into the water when she saw us while on her basking platform at around ~2 years old. But it's by around ~3 years she began to really show her affection and trust for us. We've had her for about 5 years now, and I want to detail how she behaves now that she's gotten to trust us. She seems to really enjoy receiving attention. Every time she sees us, she swims up to the water's surface and splashes around in crazy excitement. When we near her she'll stretch her neck as high as she can and will sorta puff out her neck like a frog when croaking. That's usually when I stick my arm in the tank and rub her head and neck, which she seems to enjoy. I'll rub her head some more, hold her little soft hands which are so cute, and she'll try using my hand holding as a platform to push herself up closer to me. She Loves back scratches/rubs which really reminds me of how I pet a dog, and gives a little butt wiggle dance when I do. She's recently begun getting so exited while I pet her that she's starting to climb up her basking platform just to get closer to me. Now what sets this apart from everything else is what seems the most astonishing to me. So Red Eared Sliders are just crazy for food. They don't know when they're full and will just keep eating and eating, which is why I keep track of how much I feed her for her own health. I've read they'll constantly beg for food, which was what I figured she was doing this whole time, but eventually she just began to ignore the food completely rather seeming to want attention instead, even swiping away the food I put right in front of her! It's not that she isn't hungry, as she'll eventually start eating once she realizes we're not going to pet her anymore (which ngl kinda makes me feel bad). I've never seen a turtle, let alone a red eared slider, blatantly ignore food for human attention instead, and that tells me there's actual affection going on rather than just instinctual attraction for food. She allows, and seems to really like me to pet her where she'd be most vulnerable in the wild, which shows just how much she trusts me(and my father as she acts just like this with him too, but not with strangers, I assume because she doesn't recognize them, which I think is also incredible). Which is why in my mind, the closest thing to love in nature is trust. And Lyla surely does show a lot of it. I've never seen so much personality from a turtle. She's just such a joy to have, and I can't wait for the bond that'll strengthen in the next 30 or so years that she'll live. It's just such a shame that I don't ever see people seeing the same thing, probably because it just hasn't been properly documented since it requires years of proper care and attention. And fun fact: I recently found out red eared sliders start to dig into the rocks at the bottom of their tank when they're bored. And more interestingly, just like dogs, they love to play with toys! There's all sorts of things that could be used as "turtle toys", anything from plastic Ping-Pong balls, large marbles, to light-up bath toys(they especially like the color red). I'm certainly going to get my turtle some toys soon, as she definitely deserves something for being such a good girl.
My bearded dragon, though not regularly out of his enclosure like I have seen with Tegus and Iguanas, does actually come when called. That said I have no reason to believe he knows his name, but that he does come when he feels like a voice is directed at him.
I used to have a bearded dragon named, Spike who died of old age, and he was very close to a dog in my opinion. He loved when I rubbed his snout and his neck. He also really loved laying on my chest. He was the best man
Its an awesome video, cant get any better. However, my bearded dragon acts like how you described a tegu and rock Iguanas. As I get home from work, Tammy, my beardie would always head-bob to indicate to put my hand/arm closer to him and he would immediately climb onto me. He prefers to be pet around his beard. He doesn't run to his veggies but when he sees me from a distance holding my cricket feeder box, he would definitely run and jump onto me. Also it takes him 20-40 mins to sleep on his own but he immediately goes to sleep if place him on my lap. You're dead on right about red foots because looking at Kamp Kenan's videos, his red foots would come out of their heated box as he comes around with their foods.
Well, you better be coming with a rhino iguana video cause i see the community really is in love with them and we know why. They're fantastic. Please do the video. :)
a friend of mine in his late 30s has a pair of turtles hes had since he was 12 or so and they just love it when they get live food like worms and other insects
I was expecting chuckwallas to be on this list. Had a coworker with a chuckwalla and she would just cuddle and cuddle and cuddle. He said she would lay on his lap and watch TV with him. He even carried her around in a little chihuahua carrier with her name on it. Brought her to work one day and I swear she just snuggled into my neck for like 15 minutes.
This was a really interesting video. I would never have thought there were reptiles that could be considered "dog-like". A fun response list. And wonderful to see Flutie as co-host. 😁😍🐍🐶
I think blue tongue skinks should have been on the list because from the videos i have seen Their personality is kindof like a mini tegu, they even eat dogfood that is a recipie for a small reptile dog
My Savannah monitors as soon as I walk into my room they come to their doors of the enclosure and scratch at the glass until I let them out to roam and hangout while I answer my comments and watch videos. Rite now I have my rat terrier on one side of the couch and my monitors on the other side and wish I could post a picture. Definitely smart and my 4 adults know there names and absolutely love them and now I’m training there 80 babies
We had a Rock Iguana when I was growing up and at no point during his 4 years with us was he EVER friendly. From the time we got him until my dad gave him to a pet store buddy, he snapped and hissed and whipped his tail whenever we'd come around. We tried countless times to tame him but it just wouldn't happen. Our Nile monitor on the other hand was definitely a dog. We used to take him to the lake to go camping and swimming with us and he roamed the house and would crawl up on the couch and watch TV with us. Definitely individual personalities lol
I had a rock iguana in the early 2000s,and her name was Thorn. She was a great pet and remember her name and feeding time. My sister and mom was scared to death of her because sometimes she would get out and run around the house. I guess for some people seeing a big lizard run around freely will startle a few. She loved collard and mustard greens. She was a great pet, just keep them well heated and fed.
Flooty is adorable! And yeah, all dogs don't even act the same. My dog doesn't act like a dog 😂 though part of my love for reptiles is that they don't act like dogs in many ways. Great video, love it. Wish I had room to have a tegu
@Tom Whalen I'm that way with literally every animal, even the ones most people find ugly. If I see an animal I'm almost certainly going to go "awwwww"
My great Madagascar daygecko "Seth" loved watching Jurassic Park 1 (yeah, only part 1) and when I forgot to lock his terrarium. He always jumped at the unlocked door (which swung open and close), climbed to the back and jumped again.
As a person who has a beardie, if you want a dog GET A BEARDED DRAGON! They’re so friendly, they’re fun to watch as they love to explore and are super cute. They are also sociable and will climb on you or even take a nap on you if you’re warm or have a heating pad. They’re the most like dogs in my opinion as my boyfriend also has one and it is just as well tempered as mine. I guess some may not have the best personality but I’ve never met a mean beardie before!
I had one that even enjoyed car rides and she wanted to be with me all the time no matter what I was doing. She wouldn’t be mean to other ppl but she made it obvious that she preferred to be with me and not around them lol
I honestly thought an Asian Water Monitor would be on this list, but between the space needed for those vs a Tegu or Rock Iguana, I may opt for one of those 2 honestly. I am wanting a lizard/monitor I plan to raise and heavily socialize just like I have with my Retics and Green Anny. They're incredibly sweet. Sweeter than my Burm and most other snakes, but space can definitely be an issue. I have a room I can dedicate to a decent sized scale dog as well. Your videos are definitely helping me with my decisions, so I'd love to see a Rock iguana video to see if that's truly one I'd go for!
Look into Argus monitors, they're SUPER intelligent and very trainable (check out Joseph Carter the Mink Man's videos on his Argus) and they don't get quite as huge as an Asian Water Monitor!
@@marquendra I'm torn between heloderms and monitors for my favorite lizards. A socialized salvator is more outgoing, but one of my gila monsters was great. I bought him as an adult of unknown age in 1981 and had him until 2013 or 2014, with no apparent aging. Unlike my other gila, Herman never tried to bite. When I kept him in the bathtub, if I accidently knocked a clothes hanger off the shower curtain rod, he'd panic and look for danger until I let him smell and taste my hand. I introduced him to my dogs and cats since they could reach him there. One of the cats visited him daily for about 7 years. Just remember that every animal is an individual, and their bite is painful.
@@jeffthompson9622 I'm always viewing them as an individual. It's how I have the best kinships with each one of my snakes, which happen to be 4 Reticulated pythons and a Green Anaconda. I'm definitely familiar with pain, but it's also incredibly rare for it to happen if each animal is treated with respect and interacted with as you would a different person. They're so different in many ways!
I gave a redfoot tortoise a shell massage at a zoo and they fell asleep under my hands! It reminded me so much of when I pet my dog’s back all good and he just melts lol No arguments on this list at all!
Agree with Cyclura as #1! I've worked with 4 species of cyclura and have a rhino at home. They are super intelligent, funny, and loving as well as very long lived. I'd love a whole video about the group of iggies.

Jub seems like such a great Tegu!

Lmao the cats probably wouldn't complain for very long if it's a big tegu
I saw a video of a red tegu roaming around the house with 3 cats. Absolutely no aggression.
@@juanjoyaborja.3054 It also depends on the separate animals personality. My cat actively stalks my dog, but is terrified of my dads dog who is much sweeter.
I’m allergic to every furred and feathered friend so this was so helpful. I’ll definitely be looking into some of your suggestions!
Yeah , a Rock Iguana video would be really cool.
for sure!
When I was a about 14-15, I worked at this small petshop, and one day we got a male panther chameleon that would always run up to greet anyone he saw and try to climb all over people every chance he got. It was pretty surreal.
Flootie (spelling?) is precious!
Flutie is the goodest boi
"Rock iguanas are number one. There is nothing else even close."
"They edge out the Black and White Tegu just a little bit."
Loved it! Now please do a 5 dogs that act like reptiles!

@@juanjoyaborja.3054 spot on
Not me literally crying because of a baby tegu being so adorable.
so cute eh!
i agree with this list, i have had the opportunity in azriona to meet a rock iguana named rex, who had an outdoor/indoor enclosure and he would use the doggy door to swap between them.
Rock iguanas are awesome!

AMAZING!
Would love to learn more about the rock iguanas. Didn't know there was such a thing. Now I'm intrigued.
they really are amazing
You'll love the price.
My rescue iguana followed me around the house and slept in my bed. Awesome. Love ur vids
Adam i just wanted to say you’re one of my favorite reptile youtubers and you inspire me so much
Thank you so much, you are too kind!

Good boy
My new favorite channel! I watch a lot of reptile videos but I keep learning about new reptiles here and especially their personalities!!
thankss o much!
My water dragon is also very handleable. They start out jumpy but with regular holding they become fantastic and friendly companions.
that's so awesome to hear!
My AFTs are in brumation right now, the accuracy of the look your tegu gives you when you disturb them made me laugh out loud, so accurate haha. 😂✌️
I moved abroad a year ago. No burms allowed in the country. Had to give mine away. Miss her so much. Best pet ever.
Your videos are an outlet for so many people who don’t know how to properly care for animals?
hey thanks so much for watching!
I love the way my elderly dogs’ hearing is selective. Call them, deaf. Quietly open a bag of chips, two dogs to my rescue. Instantly.
Yes! I have an 18 yr old lab/boxer, who I thought was quite deaf. Didn’t question it until I did. Selective is correct!😮
I'd love a video on Rhino/Rock iguanas! Especially since they (to my surprise) beat out the B&W Tegu.
They really are so great
Im surprised not to see Red Eared Sliders in there. Mine follow me around, come for food even tho he cant swallow, comes when called, genuinely interested in you, will hang out on my desk and knows where he can and cant be. Its wierd AF and I love them lol
What a cute little baby Tegu! It's going to be a phenomenal pet for somebody!
for sure!
You can just place your mattress on the floor (to prevent falls) and sleep with your redfoots. So, no enclosure even needed. Plus, they get free heat and humidity from you, which is healthy for them and most importantly, prevents pyramiding.
hahhaa
My little bro works at an animal shelter , he adopted 6 leopard geckos that got left there , then moved out and couldn't take them with him leaving my mom to deal with them. We were told they were all female , females can cohab but the enclosure was too small , she got a bigger enclosure but then I figured out one was male. Got him separated. The male is very shy , most the females are just kind of there , one of the females will shit on you as hard as she can if you pick her up , one of the females pretty much wags her tail and does a lil excited dance and tries to climb the glass to get handled.
An in depth video on rock iguanas/rhino iguanas would be great
Coming soon!
Agreed 👍
@@WickensWickedReptiles YES!!
i got 2 red foot tortoises, they are pretty chill, it's pretty much dog like, some times follow the people on the around the house, run to the food like a dog, and they are pretty cute, also they like to sleep a lot some times and it's pretty cheap to feed them, and are very quiet pets!
I'm using my turtle, Lyla, who's a very sweet girl, as the basis for this example:
She didn't immediately show affection when i got her as a baby, rather being shy and very skittish.
I have a yellow bellied slider, very similar animal. I wouldn't really consider him to be doglike at all
My bearded dragon, though not regularly out of his enclosure like I have seen with Tegus and Iguanas, does actually come when called. That said I have no reason to believe he knows his name, but that he does come when he feels like a voice is directed at him.
Diamond photobombing the turtle 😂
Hilarious eh!
Your doggie tried to give u a high five in the beginning 😍
he's the best
Great list!! I totally agree with #1. The rhino iguana is my dream reptile.
Beardies fit for sure too
I know it is just luck, but when he said you haven't even tried to bite my ear. Diamond winked.
hahahaa
Well, you better be coming with a rhino iguana video cause i see the community really is in love with them and we know why. They're fantastic.
Please do the video. :)
a friend of mine in his late 30s has a pair of turtles hes had since he was 12 or so and they just love it when they get live food like worms and other insects
that's wicked! The pair I have are over 25 years old
I found this quite interesting and educational and have subscribed to u for that very reason. Keep up the great work, Adam!
Awesome, thank you!
Your doggo is so comfy in your arms. I like how he tried to give u a hi 5.
he loves being held!
Awesome list! A tegu is my absolute dream reptile, but I don't have the space or time for one right now.
same
I was expecting chuckwallas to be on this list.
I have a B & W tegu that I rescued with severe mbd but she absolutely LOVES to be cuddled

Keep up the great work man! You make the best videos!
Thank you so much
@@WickensWickedReptiles have a great rest of your day! Merry Christmas! Or happy holidays!
Seen a few videos of common snapping turtles that seem legitimately excited to see their owners. One of those so ugly it's cute animals.
You know what acts like a dog? Our chickens! It's so funny! One of my leopard geckos act like a dog too lol
I think blue tongue skinks should have been on the list because from the videos i have seen Their personality is kindof like a mini tegu, they even eat dogfood that is a recipie for a small reptile dog
Care guide for rock iguanas sounds great. Would you ever talk about wood turtles? I would be supt interested it that.
Definitely smart and my 4 adults know there names and absolutely love them and now I’m training there 80 babies
loved the video adam, and if anything made me want a tegu even more with that description of mushu's reaction. i know that feeling all too well
Mushu is hilarious
I’ve watched Tyler Nolan with his rock iguanas and they absolutely act like a pup you can see it in their eyes when he pets them
for sure!
Definitely individual personalities lol
might not have been socialized as a child. also like he said in the video, not all are friendly
We love our sulcatas. Lots of personality; come when called…maybe…come more often than the cat at least. Love cheek rubs.
awesome
OMG YOU FINALLY GOT A TEGU!! She is so cute!
a few months back, she is great!

I can vouch for socialized water monitors seeking out human contact and very carefully taking food from a human hand.
@@jeffthompson9622 That's excellent to hear!
It reminded me so much of when I pet my dog’s back all good and he just melts lol
No arguments on this list at all!
Hello great video information Adam

I would've added the Asian water monitor, they're very much like really really big puppies. Also mine once they hit adult hood just sort of got lazy
