Learned helplessness? Iguanas have great vision so it’s a pretty significant impairment. Though that may lead to them being less on edge because they won’t be able to perceive many changes in their environment.
I don't think it's learned helplessness. It's that their startle and flight responses are triggered by visual stimuli. No visual stimuli, no flight response. (Normally sighted iguanas can be as tame as the albinos, but you have to start handling them when they are very young, and some individuals will tame down a lot easier than others....as you saw with the pied pectinata babies, there is a huge variation in temperament.)
We've had an albino since he was very little & he still freaks out when we get him out (he's a few years old). He calms down pretty quick though. We hated ourselves for allowing that to happen but we were determined to ensure that she could live her best life even after our mistakes. We did eventually get everything right for her and she was just the best. Honestly it began my love for reptiles and led me to get my BCI boa down the line. Unfortunately my iguana has passed on now because of an issue with laying her clutch of eggs. It was a very sad day in our family because she was a member of the family. Oh my god! I did watch your Green Iguana videos and have to say it made me laugh so much. Mainly by the way of your delivery. Too funny. I'm a dedicated green iguana keeper and have been so for the past 30 years, and I'm in the process to adopt another one soon as my big beautiful boy sadly died at the age of 19. I've been a huge fan of Ty's for many years and I really, really would like to visit Iguanaland and meet him. He's such a legend and done so much for conservation. I love the Bakerii and know the founder (well, got his book and met him on a convention) of the research facility on Utila. One day I'll visit that place, too. Beautiful job they've done helping to save the black iguanas and getting the green ones off the endangerded list. Keep doing what you're doing. PS secretly a big jealous you got this gorgeous pied baby, but I don't do well with insects, so Green Iguanas all the way for me. 🙂
Green Iguanas still are my favorite :) just love them so much. There is so much you can do with the size of their enclosure, even turn it into their own little jungle. Though I am not going to lie, I do stick with the females since they are easier to handle and do not have as many negative behavioral traits as the males, especially during breeding season. I have a female axanthic blue who is 6 years old and is as friendly as could be. Thanks for the video!
Those pied iguanas have such an insane pattern, they remind me of urban mixed up with digital camouflage, so incredible, if it was my call I was gonna name him Urban just for that
There’s a lil iguana at the reptile room?! That’s amazing! Congrats Clint and thanks Ty! Very cool animals, and those rhinoceros iguanas are such impressive animals! Not for me, but amazing creatures none the less.
As long as you know what you are getting yourself into, because like Clint said in his video about Green Iguanas they will reach a stage in life randomly one day and start attacking you
My cousin had a green iguana that was about 6 & 1/2 feet long, and he was really chill, but he'd been well socialized his whole life. We had to build an enclosure into a room of their house because of his size. Definitely would not recommend for most people, but he was an impressive beast. Absolute unit! 😁
Congrats on your new edition!!! I chose my lizard the same way, he just let his legs just dangle, didn't run like his brothers and sisters. How's about Harlequin for the piebald's name, love iguanas Floridian here. Bananas are my favorite but piebalds are a close second. Looking forward to visiting Iguanaland.
I raised a green iguana from a baby and of course named him Ignatius. He was so much fun and had the best personality. He always stood on my head while I cleaned until he got way too big. Loved that guy.
I just have to say, and I mean this in the best way, Clint you are the hybrid lovechild of; Newt Scamander, Mr. Rodgers, Steve Erwin, Jane Goodall, and Bob Ross... I don't know how *that* happened, though I bet it involved a story that started with "One day I was drinking..." and ended with "...and then I jumped into the portal.", but I am so glad that it did. I don't know if I will ever keep lizards (though Turtles are a real possibility) but I enjoy watching your videos regardless. Thank you for existing, and for you and the video crew and production team, making videos.
Working on taming a young captive bred tokay and it's proving.. not exactly easy 🤣. I'll take your advice and hold up on getting an iguana for now. If I had to get a bigger lizard it be a monitor😉
@Jerry Asian water monitors and Timor monitors are actually pretty reasonable temperament wise (usually). But the main reason I prefer monitors is that they're more interesting to observe and interact with
In Mexico I rescued an adult spiny tailed iguana when I was in 4th grade. When my dad and I got it out from being starved and squished under a de-hinged door I grabbed it and was covered in scratches after being clawed and tail whipped. And I put it down and then it ran off on two legs.
There's both Similis & Pectinata in Mexico - both in wild form will tear you up (Similis moreso though lol). Pectinata are super cool when raised from babies & handled though. Similis run hot & cold lol.
So happy to see this video. The iguana gets so much hate but they are an amazing lizard. I've had 2 and it was one of the best pet experiences I've ever had. It was hard to have them but for me well worth it.
Just what I was coming to comment. The human male husband in 101 Dalmatians was named Roger (another possibility), but more folks will get the Dalmatian reference to Pongo. I wonder how long it will be before the green turns to white and black?
I love Ty! He's so generous with his friends. Clint how is your iguana doing? I don't recall seeing it in any videos besides, I somehow missed this one. That baby was like, aaahhhh thanks Ty, I needed a pillow, I am exhausted :)
I loved them ALL...I don't have an albino iguana or an pied iguana...the rest I have several...plus a few...my rhinos and my bakeri are my absolute favorite..and we even had bakeri babies last year..that was awesome! I loved seeing them all!!!!
Thank you for explaining that just because you don't recommend a particular pet for the general public/first time owner/casual keeper doesn't mean they aren't awesome. We have the same thing in dog care. My favorite breeds of dog are so not for your average, casual dog owner, and even though I adore them, I don't currently have them because I'm not in a situation to give them the level of care they need. I've known far too many dogs who were rehomed or straight up neglected because their owners bought a multi-thousand dollar purebred puppy that they were so not prepared for.
Honestly I thought Desert Iguanas and Chuckwallas would of made it on the list but I know they aren’t true iguanas. Still awesome animals on the list though! 🦎🦎🦎
Wow!! Clint!!! That’s the cutest iguana in the world!! What an amazing little Pied Iguana!!🦎❤️🦎 I commented before the end……those baby Rhino’s are precious! If I wasn’t 59 years old, I’d buy one immediately!!
Started watching this channel because I was really interested in keeping arachnids and insects, but I was never very fond of reptiles--and I can confidently say they are still not the pet for me, but boy do I have a much greater fondness and appreciation for them now. My family keeps making fun of me because every day I suggest a new outlandish animal that I must have. So far I think I've worn them down enough that they'll let me get blue death-feigning beetles lmao, but that's about it.

I think you should call him Ty after the guy who was kind enough to gift him to you 🙏🏼
I like it!
@@ClintsReptiles Came here to say the same, Ty is perfect!
I third the name Ty! Ty is a cool name regardless, but definitely fitting for the little pied!
Ty is a good name one every hundred year mother have baby like Ty
@@ClintsReptiles Ty is the perfect name, after the iguana king himself.
Those baby rhino iguanas got me all emotional! They are SO cute. And omg, the little one coming out of the egg!!! Stahhhppp!
I am so intrigued by the banana iguana. I must O B T A I N
A C Q U I R E I G U A N A
My jealousy is out of control rn. This had to be a bucket list kind of experience! Such a cute new boy added to the family! I can’t wait to watch him grow!
Love the video, never thought I would want an iguana.
There are some great ones.
I'm so happy for you! Getting a new pet reptile never looses it excitingness!
You’re hands-down my favorite reptile/animal channel. You’re the best at what you do, keep up the amazing work you awesome dude. 🤝
I've lived in Florida my entire life, and you're showing me all these awesome places I've never hear of that I can visit down south! Thank you 👍
Yay Rhino iguanas are my favorite ! Awesome video Clint ! Love ya💗💗💗
Thank you! They are special animals indeed.
I had absolute zero interest in reptiles...till I stumbled across Clint. Now I’m addicted to them.
The color and design of this animal is amazing. What a great choice for a pet!
Ty Park is the iguana king and a true legend.
You should make a video about Fiji Iguanas, I fed them once at the Warsaw zoo and totally fell in love with them. Incredibly beautiful, gentle and tiny. I will have a pair one day
Love those my favorite looking iguana I think I’d rather have rhinos if I could just because bigger is better to me.
@@zacharyalfano9846 ah yes, more scaly body to cuddle :D if I ever get to keep the big stuff, I think I'll go back to hydrosauruses. They're badass and they know it.
Ty just comes off as a good dude. Those Pie’s are insane looking. Definitely gotta add those to my wish list.
Congratulations on your new friend it’s crazy cute, I find it amazing that they change colors so drastically. Iguana Land sounds like a magical place to visit with very knowledgeable staff, thank you so much for sharing and best wishes always ☺️
Ty seems like such an amazing and kind person oh my god. 😭💕
Great video Clint! Thanks to Ty for all the help he does with conservation and I can't wait to visit Iguana Land!!!
Those iguanas are so cool and tye park is such an amazing person
This is probably my favorite video I have ever seen and you are my favorite RUclipsr
I love our Ctenosaura melanosterna from Ty. He has a great personality and is so much fun!
Greetings Clint, from a fellow Utah boy. Love your work!
Those pied iguanas have such an insane pattern, they remind me of urban mixed up with digital camouflage, so incredible, if it was my call I was gonna name him Urban just for that
I wish I loved anything as much as this dude loves reptiles. Keep crushing it Clint!
There’s a lil iguana at the reptile room?! That’s amazing! Congrats Clint and thanks Ty! Very cool animals, and those rhinoceros iguanas are such impressive animals! Not for me, but amazing creatures none the less.
1:13 i've never knew clint had a wild side on him 😂
Thank you so much for this! I've been pondering a pet iguana for awhile now, so this is incredibly helpful!
The adult pied almost blended completely into your shirt Clint. Name him Dav, after, well, Dav 😁
Iguanas just remind me of small Godzillas, hopefully I'll own one one day!
As long as you know what you are getting yourself into, because like Clint said in his video about Green Iguanas they will reach a stage in life randomly one day and start attacking you
Pick the right iguana and that won't be an issue.
This was a cool one! You should do more amphibians though! You're the best Clint!
One of my favs of Clint’s videos!
Oh wow! Can’t wait to see the new baby grow up and change colors (and lives) 😍
I’ve loved iguanas since I was very little. I use to have one and loved it. Great video.
But the main reason I prefer monitors is that they're more interesting to observe and interact with
@Jerry tegus are plenty cool too
In Mexico I rescued an adult spiny tailed iguana when I was in 4th grade.
This was an extremely informative video. Thanks for taking us along. I loved it!
Ty is a legend man, so happy you got to meet him.
So happy to see this video. The iguana gets so much hate but they are an amazing lizard. I've had 2 and it was one of the best pet experiences I've ever had. It was hard to have them but for me well worth it.
Maybe name him “Pongo,” after the Dalmatian from “One Hundred and One Dalmatians?”
Just what I was coming to comment.
The human male husband in 101 Dalmatians was named Roger (another possibility), but more folks will get the Dalmatian reference to Pongo. I wonder how long it will be before the green turns to white and black?
My girlfriend's Leopard Gecko is named Pongo! So I support this suggestion
Please review a Emerald Basilisk! Would love to see one.
That would be nice, but could you do more beatles? They seem to be good for beginners and would want to know which types are good pets 🙂
Wow what an amazing video. Fabulous facility! I love how much they do for conservation ❤️
11:40 that iguana in the back is planning an escape plan 😂.
Been waiting for this video since Dav teased at it months ago!
I have a Ctenosaur Melanosterna and so far he's a joy.
Hopefully it was worth the wait
Of course! Hope you circle back and show us that iguana when he gets his adult colors!
Komodo Dragon. The best pet lizard? I can't wait for that video.
Ty Is the best. I’ve met him at his IguanaFests. Can’t wait to go to IguanaLand.
Did you film this during an earthquake? Your cameraman is struggling a bit keeping still😂
Apparently dav was a mosquito buffet while shooting so I can't blame him
Now I want an iguana. Totally not getting one, but I definitely want one. Great video.
Honestly I thought Desert Iguanas and Chuckwallas would of made it on the list but I know they aren’t true iguanas. Still awesome animals on the list though! 🦎🦎🦎
That new baby he gave you had the BEST WHAT U OU LOOKING AT stare at the camera glad you picked that one
Wow!! Clint!!! That’s the cutest iguana in the world!! What an amazing little Pied Iguana!!🦎❤️🦎
I commented before the end……those baby Rhino’s are precious! If I wasn’t 59 years old, I’d buy one immediately!!
So cool! Thanks for the closeup shots. They ae so fascinating.
Rhinoceros iguanas are my very favorite iguanas!! They have such great personalities and can really bond with their owners
Week 2: Clint you should do a video on Amazon Puffing Snakes (spilotes sulphureus). More people need to know about these magnificent snakes!!!!
100% this ☝🏼☝🏼☝🏼☝🏼
They are incredibly under-rated and not available captive bred. (Mostly)
This species needs to be focused on more! They are absolutely stunning !
Your episodes are so captivating! I love the work you're doing with these amazing creatures. Our whole family finds your work utterly fascinating! As for a name for this lovely lad, I would go for Butter or Butters or Mr. Buttersworth. Because all the best things 'pied' have buttery crusts :D
What a cool place. I believe Ty would be appropriate name for that iguana!
Love your new pet iguana and love your videos they are so educational specially to kids am going to enjoy seeing him grow up a big tums UP to you and your team for making these amazing video's.
That banana pectinata looks like she's wearing a lil sweater!
"Tell me about their diet!" *Ad for KFC*
Omg the Rhinos are FREAKING ADORABLE! They're all SO CUTE but the rhinos really touched my heart. Man, I REALLY love lizards. ^-^ ❤
Omg i think that was on of the best video you've ever made!!!
Great video! I did fear for Chris's toes at one point, but loved learning about some new types of iguanas!
Iguanas are one of my favorites, this is great!
That banana iguana was so cute. Her face is just adorable!!
This was another exciting Clint video, and since Iguanad ard my favorite herbivorous reptile, this make sense.
Love the pied! Lucky you! Take a pied! Such a great place and such nice people!
So exciting for The Reptile Room! I think you should name him Ty.
I have an 8 month old Bakeri iguana and it’s amazing. For my 2nd iguana I’m thinking a pectinata pied or iguana delicatissima (lesser antillean) reminds me of a rhino but with a white head
