    The way the hand was played, it was played exactly how most people at lower stakes would actually play a set on a relatively non threatening flop in a multiway pot. As strong as top two pair is, it’s really just a bluff catcher against that line (a turn check raise followed by a river shove is usually a nuts or nothing situation) In this case it was nothing, but more often than not it’s a monster. If it was heads up I probably would have called it off given the price if I knew the player was capable of making a move, but with another player in the pot the check raise didn’t get rid of I feel it’s much more weighted towards strength and it’s actually not unreasonable to fold there.

    As played I am probably just calling turn and calling down on any non diamond river, we get painted into a corner in these limped pots but we get a huge overlay from a calling station behind.
    In these types of spots we get way better pot odds with every call because we know we're often getting an additional dead call behind. If BB is ever bluffing here or betting with like 43 we have to just hang on until the end I think because we're really getting like 5 to 1 on a call.
    I played at a great table like this this weekend actually, and there were spots somewhat like this where I would be calling with draws/hands that don't actually have enough equity to call against the aggressor, but knowing you're very often getting an additional call behind changes the pot odds to where a call is profitable. We need to make adjustments to VIPs at the table, but we can't always assume that other players are adjusting as well.

    When calling the turn, I would have expected a river shove. A river diamond, 9 or A is a fold (if BB shoves). But, otherwise, the turn was the time to fold not the river. The 5 brings in unlikely hands but is otherwise a brick (if VIP is sitting on 2-6 or 7 8, so be it). So, the hands were made on the turn or weren't and hero already called the turn.

So you're risking being behind either player, but you only get paid by one of them. At least the good news, is the money went where you're most likely able to retrieve it.

  • @noex100
    @noex100 Месяц назад +5

    The fold on the river is terrible. BB should basically never have 33/44 because he check-called the flop... 4-ways! Even on a super dry board, there's just no way he's gonna just check-call the flop with HUGE (400 big blind deep) stacks in play. Not gonna happen.
    I'm snap calling the river and expecting to chop a lot of the time with KT, and occasionally beat an oddly-played K4, T4, or rare bluff. The fact that the +1 fish would likely call behind with an even worse hand (AA, AK, K5, T3, etc.) makes the odds even better and justifies "calling for a chop".

    • @pot_kivach160
      @pot_kivach160 Месяц назад +2

      so: +1 can limp with pocket AA, but he cannot limp with pocket KK! That's what you're saying.
      BB can x/r on turn into a large field with a crap, but he cannot x/r with (any) sets?
      It's easy to be a general after the battle.

    • @noex100
      @noex100 Месяц назад

      @pot_kivach160 Sure +1 could have KK, but there's only ONE combo of that, and I would only give him a partial of it since he flatted 3 times post-flop with the absolute nuts (once on flop, twice on turn).
      Secondly, I'm saying there's no way a set check-calls the flop when it's 4 ways and there are deep stacks left behind. That would be a colossal blunder... in what universe does that make sense?
      As I said, I think the turn raise represents exactly KT the majority of the time. In hindsight, BB probably had something like A5dd or 56dd. But in real time, I was strongly expecting KT. Nothing in my analysis is results-oriented... I'm snapping the river every single time, and if the BB were to show 33/44 I would mentally note that he is overly trappy and adjust accordingly.

      .
      And, yes, Famous Last words: "I have blocked it".

    Wow, what a hand! Made me chuckle at the end knowing the fish got all the money even though he's clueless. I pretty much forgot on every street that this +1 guy was even in the hand, thought at first it would be a call for you at the end but the +1 being there really changes everything.
    I think checking it back pre is a great choice, even more so that you know +1 loves to limp/3bet. But even if he wasn't such a fish you can still probably just check it.
    On the flop I liek the sizing, not much to say especially when you know +1 is a calling station.
    Turn I don't really think there's any merit to folding, you shouldn't be beat very often.
    On the river like I said I would be snap calling this BB guy off with 2 blankets if the fish didn't exist. Just makes the situation completely different cuz essentially BB doesn't understand the situation either. He should never be bluffing the calling station. I think a call can make sense here if we give BB credit for knowing that +1 will call down with any kind of bluff catcher. You can put him on a lot more hands that act as bluffs with these bet sizings here if the VIP will call with AT or Kx. When he made that turn bet, I had hands like T4/T3 in his range, assuming that with those hands he's effectively trying to bluff you off whatever you connected with and trying to isolate a VIP who will call with the thinnest value imaginable.
    Why he tried to bluff a calling station on the river when he didn't hit his draws, I do not know. xD

    This seems like one of those situations, with how it plays out, where you call and if you're beat..you're beat. only 3 hands from the BB connect. The way he plays it just seems bluff heavy anyway. Attempting to steal the pot on the turn with the check raise, and getting it in on the river is (i guess in his mind?) his only option to attempt to take it down. Top 2 just seems good here from how he described the players invovled.

    RUclips gave me you through Daniel's live streams. I enjoy your content as I catch up with the backlog as a less than average player in ability and regularity. But I'm hooked on every word as an interesting story more so than the expected case study vibe.
    One thing and one question: Thing one: Keep smashing this content it's absolutely amazing. Question one: Is every other person you interview a "Nate"?!
    Thanks Bart

    I’m probably puke folding turn. That checkraise is supposed to be so nutted given the super VIP. You have to have a read on the BB being really bad in order to call turn even with a hand as strong as that. BB jamming river into two on a stone bluff given the setup is just nothing short of a torch.

    No way I am folding here top 2 to a BB betting into me and a whale. BB can literally have any 2 cards. 33, 44 (6) combos, 43, K4, k3 (21), combo draw (5)..... The whale effectively has the same number of combos.

    The EV of Checking in BB/Str pre is so high, that im Not even raising AQo 99 and lower. Might raise small with good suited Ax and Premiums. Offsuite highcards dont perform good in multiway pots oop. Suited Ax need to be raised small to keep inferior suited Trash in for the cooler Potential. Bad opponents will lose way too much Post anyway so no need to raise

    Nothing is impossible on this table. If a player can limp with pocket AA, why could not he limped with pocket KK? If a player can x/r into a large field with a crap, why could not he have sets (33/44)?? If you can have 2 fish at that table, why couldn't there be more? Obviously, all 3 statements are correct, (particularly the last one). If you called turn x/r, then river is a call. Otherwise, fold turn (and wait for them around the corner).

    Not sure how you can call the turn for $800 more and fold the river. I don't see how a 5 would change anything. Don't see how you can realistically put someone on 67. Honestly this video just makes Nate look bad and I would take it down if I were you IMO.
