Buying a power boat doesn’t mean people understanding boating rules & regulations. Everyone should take a boaters course when buying a boat, especially those who’ve never owned a boat
Even from this close-croped video you can see the outgoing boat is left of the channel when he should be passing port-to-port. His buddy clearly doesn't know colregs and is justiculating but it's obvious the helm doesn't know them either. Incoming boat would have been wise to slow down to give himself more time to react and options, but did the right thing by originally turning to starboard, only having to throw the wheel over at the last moment when it became clear the outgoing boat wasn't going to pass on his port side
If no signals exchanged,, figure port to port, you travel the right side as you would on the road. In either case, make your turn early and obvious In a collision, both captains are at fault, maritime law.
Both boatscat fault foe not slowing down when ggey saw a potential danger.. If i recall marine rules are pass each other on the port side (left) So the incoming boat looked like he was headed for the right side of the channel with the starboard turn to do that. But both wrong for not slowing down and acknowledging each other. Too much testosterone.
The boatter pointing at him saying its his fault... How would you feel if someone on the highway was in you lane, coming at you... Right of way, red RIGHT RETURN.
I know Haulover Inlet does not have a speed limit, but the speed and degree he took the turn was somewhat reckless. People writing the slower boat is on the wrong side, are wrong, Florida and most states don't have right of way in waterways except to avoid a collision head on, both boats must veer right in the direction they're heading. When crossing paths, the starboard side has the right of way, but reckless operation of a vessel with willful disregard for the safety of persons or property at a speed that endangers or is likely to endanger life and limb, cause property damage or injure another is illegal.
It’s national maritime law that states you pass port to port. If approaching head on, which they were, both operators must veer to starboard (right side) so they pass port to port. Its only if there is a collision course where they would cross paths that the boat gives way to the boat that is on the starboard side (like at a stop sign in a car where the right side car has the right a way). The incoming boat did the right thing and started to veer to starboard and noticed the other boat wasn’t doing the same thing so had to hard course correct last minute. Out going boat was in the wrong. All of this was on my license exam to operate boats with motors over 10 hp and based on national rules of the water.
Outgoing needs pulled off the boat, and fixed so he'll never be comfortable at the helm leaning post. Where he think he is, England? Nah, they boat to the right there like all the world does.
@@Phantom-mk4kp , so the existing channel to the ocean is on the right side, and entering from the Ocean to the bay is on the right side, too. Correct?
The outbound boat is on the wrong side, however boats that are traveling in a straight line have the right away. Turning boats must yield. Sidenote: it would help if you weren’t hauling ass in and out of the inlet. No reason for that.
The outbound vessel is at fault for being on the wrong side of the channel. It should have been to the starboard side of the channel passing the oncoming vessel port to port. The inbound vessel made a proper maneuver to port to avoid a collision. Praises to the skipper of the inbound vessel for avoiding a collision.
lol. There are rules of the water. It’s very similar to rules of the road in that you pass port to port (aka you in the right, passing boat on the left). Outgoing boat was wrong and incoming boat had to do a hard course correction to avoid the collision.
Nah, outgoing boat should have veered to the right (starboard) just like the incoming boat was doing since they were technically in a head on course. Incoming boat noted the outgoing boat wasn’t doing the right thing and did a hard course correct to avoid the collision. Rule of the water say to pass port to port and veer to starboard if on a head on course. Only if there is a crossing course (like an intersection) do the boats have to give way to vessels on the starboard side.
The robalo leaving the inlet was at fault. The Grady was attempting to manuver to the correct position and pass port to port.
