I just saw the commercial (4/16/21) and was about to order. I'm glad I saw this first. I won't waste my money. I'm so glad for RUclips. I come here and research everything before making a purchase.
I’m surprised nobodies mentioning how the two bonded surfaces should be wiped with an alcohol wipe and then held together or otherwise clamped for AT LEAST 1-2 minutes.. then you got yourself one HELLUV. A bond
I still use it for light things, but I have had it pull paint off the wall removing something before. So I stick to non painted surfaces now. Works good for holding power strip on the back of TV stand, to keep cords up off the floor.
The box test looks like the box itself failed. The material on the outside peeled away, the tape didn't fail. It was a poorly designed test to begin with. When are you putting a heavy cardboard object on a wall? I'm not saying it's a miracle product but I found this video because it's worked so well for me that I googled "how does alien tape work". But I hang normal stuff on my walls...
The stuff works like a champ, even better than virtually anything else that I'm aware of. But only for some(MANY actually but particular) things. Its certainly NOT for hanging heavy tools to bricks FFS. I suppose it requires at least few brain cells to find some proper/reasonable applications. I've been extremely satisfied with it overall. & have even amazed by it a few times. I'm NOT saying that they don't over claim just like almost everyone else does however.
Thanks for the demonstration! I have always used 3M Hooks and picture hangers and have never had a problem with anything falling ever, including boxes of art supplies, tools, and of course use the hooks for everything from clothing to pot lids! 3M gets my vote all the time! Oh, and I've used it on drywall, metal, and wood.
Two 3M hooks have successfully held my front door holiday wreath for maybe 3 or 4 years now. Just don't purchase extras and store them... they lose their stick if stored long enough (no idea how long I'd kept them though).
Why didn't y'all read the directions? I really loved watching y'all's videos because I thought they were reliable/valid. I know for a fact this stuff works when you follow the directions for prepping the surface, etc. What a bummer.
Yeah most reviews are slightly better than the TV ad itself, but seem to show the kind of thinking (or lack of) people do when it comes to figuring out what a product is good for or not. Of course the TV ads are always over the top
Yep. I bought it from HSN. Not only did my lightweight plastic frame pic fall off (and frame. broke) but when I tried to remove tape, it peeled off part of the wall surface.
My neighbor has an unopened box. Saw it while pet sitting. I was going to swipe a few inches for my doorbell camera. Sigh! I think I'll just stick with putting screws in the wall.
yeah. works good for light things. i like to stick it on things like the mirror to hold my phone up. works really well for that when it's a fresh piece. Tends to not be so sticky when you use it over and over. Also, it might be common sense, but keep it from getting oily in anyway.
Gee I dunno it worked for me. I hung a heavy leather rug on a wall two days ago and it is still there. I believe the key is to strategically place enough tape on whatever on the surface.
I see alot of comments of how it doesn't work that well, but the imminent danger is the most upsetting part for me. Us humans have pets and little ones walking around under wall hangings. ......bump on the melon, and God forbid any broken glass is involved. This is horrendously underestimated as an injury inducer. The directions clearly read if used on painted surfaces or sheet rock it's permanent. Both surfaces must be clean and dust free. I've never seen a clean, dust free box of nails. They're normally dusty even coming from the store. Alien tape has been holding up a towel rack on my bathroom wall for 6+ months. Videos like this mean more alien tape for me. Thanks for your contributions to RUclips.
It's remarkable to me that people still buy junk that's sold on TV. When I was a boy I remember my parents once ordered something that we had seen on the television. Although I don't remember what the item was (I think it was a kitchen item), whatever it was it didn't work. My mother returned it and that was a hassle of course. But when it was all said and done, the feeling was "never again." That was 40 years ago and I've never, ever repeated that mistake.
I too tried this tape. I found that lighter things stay put. But now without ripping the finish off or holes in the drywall. I can't get them apart! I taped two wood boxes together . I wanted to use them as shelves. Now without breaking the boxes, they are together forever. And as far as reusing nope. BTW, I also taped glass jars and knic knacs to a counter. i have cats that knock things down. I went to pull them off. The tape started to pull the laminate apart. I have pictures up that will be there for life. NO! use wisely if you buy.

So there's a few things they're doing wrong when hanging things with tape..for heavy stuff you want the tape to be vertical if possible, not horizontal. I've used it for a few things so far and I haven't had any issues. But I also haven't gone anywhere near the claimed weight limit...but so far it's doing great.
I've been using it. The light things no problem. One picture did fall down. Another picture started peeling so I added more tape. So far is still up but it's good for really light light things now pulling it off the wall. I haven't gotten to that point yet, but keeping my fingers crossed 🤞🤞🤞
I hung a wooden peg board in my entry way with alien tape. Hung jackets and backpacks from it. The weight was evenly distributed and so it worked very well. My only complaint was that it tore some of the sheetrock when we moved and it needed to come down.
I had a problem with my cars video camera constantly dropping off the window. So, I tried Alien Tape. I cut a bit over an inch and attached its to the rubber sucker that connects to the window and to the window. The next morning the video camera was on my front seat. The only thing that stuck was the Alien Tape to the window. Didn't stick at all to the rubber sucker.
