Recently my mom, uncle, and I got to recreate the pivot scene when we walked a small couch from my uncle's house to my grandma's house, which is thankfully next door. I screeched "pivot" the entire short walk over while my mom yelled at me to be quiet because I was embarrassing her. But my uncle is a huge FRIENDS fan and he tried not to laugh too hard and drop the couch.

My almost 3 year old has autism and our SLP and OT have been so incredibly helpful. Speech language pathology has helped my little one go from nonverbal to starting to say a few words! If you’re reading these comments- please follow your passion. If your heart is in this, go for it! I am eternally grateful to the SLP and OT that have taught me how to help my little one thrive. ❤

For the LSAT girl and anyone else feeling lost career-wise, please read What Colour Is Your Parachute! They release a new book each year so it’s up to date with the current job market, and has tips on how to change careers as well as exercises to help you figure out what elements of a career are most important to you, what transferable skills you have, etc. I made a career change last year and this book helped me move forward with confidence

I was pre-law all throughout my undergrad and before I started to consider law schools my advisor had me read that book! It is a great tool to decide if pursuing a law degree is what you truly wish to do. I also spoke to many people in the legal field before making my final decision, reach out to your network before making any decisions.
Story #2 also hit home for me. I made the choice to postpone my wedding in 2020 due to covid. Almost exactly 100 days before my new wedding date, my mom died really unexpectedly. If I knew there was a possibility that my mom couldn't come to my wedding, I would have done a small ceremony on my originally scheduled date so that she could have been there. I'm with Morgan, I would ABSOLUTELY pivot to a small ceremony and then have the large party in June. If the father can make the original date in June, that is just one more memory you get to have. Once my mom passed, many people thought I should postpone again.....I am so glad I didn't, as my dad passed suddenly within a year of my wedding.

for the second write in, I am so sorry you're going through that. The thought of losing a parent at any age is unimaginable, but especially when you're still young yourself. I'm 18 and I lost my mom to breast cancer 6 months ago yesterday. Whether or not your Dad ends up going to your wedding physically, nothing will stop him from being there spiritually. Sending you so much love and many prayers your way♡

I really agree with what Morgan is saying in the first story about finding some thing related in the field. I wanted to be a teacher for a long time, and I spent three of my five years in undergrad in an education program. when I got to really student teaching I absolutely hated it. After that, I switched my major to something related but not specifically education focused, and I started working at a library, which I absolutely loved and I would’ve never thought was an option

For story 2... I went through this. My dad passed in 2019 due to cancer, 2 months before my wedding. I knew he wasn't going to make it, although Lord knows he was trying to. I ended up having a small private ceremony with my dad in my parents home. He passed 4 days later. Do something small now for your dad and keep your second wedding for everyone else. I'm so sorry you're going through this. It's so hard to lose a parent.

For the girl whose father has cancer - she really needs to know the disgnosis. There are maaaany cancer treatments and symptoms that wont allow travel. If you need something like high flow oxygen you can hardly make a trip across town.

31:30 so I was like this at 24 when I got engaged to my fiancé. Our families helped us get an apartment immediately after getting engaged and when move in day came around, I was PANICKING in my car. My parents walked to my car door and both told me "Hey, you agreed to marry this man. Take a deep breathe and let's help you get things organized, if things don't work out you always have a place at home with us." Mind you, we had only been together 8 months! Although they always said no living with a man until marriage, they saw the value in figuring it out before we got married. Now, four years later, we are still together and my parents are my best friends. I talk to them everyday! I complain about my in laws to my mom, I talk to my dad about my husband and he gives me advice to help the relationship. We've had a lot of ups and downs and we have a baby girl now. But I still know I can go to my parents or they will come get me and my daughter if I need some TLC or if things go south. I'm glad we didn't marry first then move in. I was scared to leave my parents and felt things were moving too fast but they were super supportive and there for me. Now I live an hour away from them and seeing them on FaceTime for an hour a day is always nice, or visiting on weekends when we're able to! When we were having financial difficulties my parents offered for us to move in with them with our daughter to save money. Who knows, we may take them up on it with rising prices of everything 😂😅 My parents have turned into my best friends and I'm so thankful for it. Don't be scared to try living together because it may be what you need to commit fully or let go!

For someone who also is working / pursuing a career that I feel that many people complain about (and had to just stop following people in those fields) I would recommend either the person writing in or anyone reading this to ignore a lot of what you read about your career online, as so many social media sites are often just capturing the people most vocally unhappy, the people happy in careers are too busy enjoying their lives so if you want perspectives on the career path speak to people who are working in the areas you want to work, and i don't know how feasible it is for the person's partner but perhaps considering if they can get some recognition of prior learning either in the field or from a educational organisation and do an abridged course/degree might be a compromise? best of luck!

17:50 I know im 3 weeks late and probably no one will see this, but for the person whose father has cancer:
First of all, im so sorry youre going through this, but try to stay calm and dont panic plan yet. My father has a chronic heart condition. A few years ago he was in active heart failure and needed a transplant, but he got it and is doing great now.
I will tell you what my dad told me when i considered dropping out of college to be with him: you can't put your life on hold. Talk with your dad about what he would like you to do. Once you guys have a care plan, youll know whats possible. I think a intimate ceremony with him present is a good idea to be safe, but i dont think he would wamt you to throw that money away and give up your dream wedding

2nd year SLP grad student here… if this is that persons passion, my advice is stick with it! In my experience and program, the second year is almost entirely internships and it makes things so much easier. I’m in my school placement right now and I love it. It has just made me more excited for my career to come. If this is what the writer wants, hang in there, it’ll get better ❤

The second one hit home. My mom had brain cancer and is now in a nursing facility to my partner and I are going to do vows in front of her this Christmas. If my mom is still around when we do a ceremony for commitment I want her to roll me down the aisle I don't know when the cancer could come back or other health issues she's been having.
Maybe that's something you do with your dad you and your partner say your vows in front of him so even if he can't be there he got to be a part. Also we do have streaming now so you could consider doing a video call

The LSAT person needs to re-evaluate priorities. The passion for law school may be gone, but I've heard many lawyers say that paralegals are invaluable and in demand. I do disagree with Jerry, though; not everyone can work their passion. For some of us, finding a job that you don't hate is good enough, as long as it can support your passions outside of work. I get very minimal fulfillment in my day job, but I don't mind it and it pays enough. I think the narrative of "do what you love and you'll never work a day in your life" is outdated and only applies to a handful of people in the world.

I was wait listed for a dental hygiene program in AR (we have 2 programs that accept about 30 candidates each - one in Little Rock and one up in the middle of nowhere lol) FIVE TIMES!
I grew up poor w no support and had to take a few classes at a time and the Little Rock school basically docked me for it acting like I couldn’t take on a full work load although I had spent years setting myself up for this program and was a dental assistant during that time working in oral surgery and in hospitals building my resume for my dream job. Needless to say I had to pivot and am now an ICU nurse and now looking into CRNA school. I can save lives but they didn’t think I was good enough to clean teeth I guess 😂
Looking back now it is a huge part of my story and how when life gets hard move in a different direction. I make more, flexible schedule, endless opportunities, etc.

In regards to story number 4, my mom is the clinical supervisor of speech language pathology in the hospital she works in. She has made a lifelong career out of it and built herself up since she was my age in that career. While she can be burnt out with her job, she loves helping people. In my opinion, she makes good money- my brother and I have never wanted for anything. There are so many opportunities in that field. To the person who wrote that story, if you have questions about actually working in the field, feel free to send me a message and I can ask my mom her thoughts!
