I REALLY can't believe or understand how Simon and Robin didn't get at least one Emmy or Golden Globe for this series (and the same series as it had no awards itself) they as actors are SO REAL and NATURAL, their acting along with their script writing was powerful and this scene is a prime example! You can really feel that pain, that love and that sad tension, in that moment you see them and they ARE the characters, you don't see "the actors" playing a character. 🙌✨ Really, I'm so sad and disappointed to see how the awards industry ignored them.. what other series was "better" and "more important" for them in those years (2008-2015) to despise the mentalist like they did? it's even a miracle that Simon at least got his star in Hollywood. 🥺

I agree with your point of view. I think the writers planned to end the show in season 5 with a disaster. They invented the mermaid Lorelei leading Jane, Lisbon and their team to the end after committing crimes together with Jane before the complicity by default of Lisbon and his team. For some reason or because they got a contract for another season or because of audience pressure they decided to go back with that idea. But in my opinion the damage to the show was already done.

Jane is the protagonist, of course the story is mostly about him, and of course he's the cleverest person on the team, and of course he's determined to accomplish his most important goal even if it takes forever and breaks some rules.
But Teresa was never a spineless idiot, and Jane never treated her like one.
Between RJ and Lisbon's safety he chose Lisbon's safety--most of his manipulation towards her was to keep her safe. She held him to a standard, called him out on every bit of bullsh*t, refused to let him withdraw from his friends when he became despondent in 1X23 and 3X01, went to bat for him against bosses and colleagues, saved his life multiple times, helped him when he was unable to help himself again and again, and this very clip here is a lead up to her asking him not to go with them to catch Lorelei and for Lisbon--even though it connected directly to his hunt for RJ--he was willing to do that, until he realized they needed his help. For her he risked dying from a suicide jacket blast before he could get revenge. For her he tried to leave Lorelei in the CBI's hands. For her he killed his only lead to RJ to save her life.

@@daniellorenz5993 not everyone. Kinda inclined to say not anyone at all. RJ's issue with Jane is personal. He called hhim a sad, little man or something of the sort. RJ knew Jane's wife's carnival people, her brother, his colleagues (that other psychic). RJ didn't have a quarrel with them; he had his with Jane himself. And even then, they weren't as close to him as say his wife and daughter.
In short, RJ isn't the mass shooter or serial killer you think of that kills just to kill. He targets specifically those who copy him, mock him, or those close to those.
That being said, I don't know if Jane knew that of RJ (that he is on his nose and isn't once and gone killer), and seems like it as he dated Frye (the psychic that later mentioned RJ). But when RJ then was suspected to have kidnapped her, and confirmed later when he freed (well, saved but not exactly freed) Jane from those film club RJ copycats, he reminded him Frye sens her greatest love. At that point he knew for sure RJ is following him, and thisr he loved to this point. Though Jane warned her for the interview (when she was put into CBI supervision, which points to the possibility one of the supervisors might have been part of the Blake organization in hindsight), he told her she doesn't know whom she is dealing with. But I doubt he knew if he follows victims then. Frye is a fresh victim in this regard and is irrelevant to Jane's statement about RJ. If RJ didn't know about Jane's relationship with Frye, and he just followed the news, he would've told Jane just (Frye is enjoying her loss of [brother or something like this]), but RJ knew of her relationship with Jane.
Having Jane known that, past that point, he must've known better than to express his feelings to Lisbon, if he had them over the (am I over my wife's loss and having not killed RJ that I go on dating women now) threshold to begin with.
But thr plane thing you talk about is after RJ's murder. And his emotional issues weren't that he couldn't date a woman (he dated Frye, kissed his psychiatrist, Miller in the make him good or bad neurological machine episode, in a [I owe you my life sense, and wish you a good career after having your organization ruined with the scandal] sense. Lorelei doesn't really count as he probably was too drunk, was acting like he gave up on RJ, or possibly truly gave up fr this time, but only woken up by his mention. So Lorelei doesn't count as dating). He did date women after his wife's murder.
Let me put it this way. What he wanted to tell Lisbon was (You know I can't imagine loving a woman and have my heart at peace after what RJ did. Even after killing RJ, the idea of losing whomever I'm dating tragically still haunts me to this day. If I didn't confess this to you before Lisbon, you know why, and you know better than anyone else why.
Gives me RE8 Rose vibes. I'm not interested in their life romantically, but had there been a follow up show, I wish they bring up a daughter, call her Charlotte. When she gets to 20, they flew from TX to CA, to the cemetery. Bring her to her stepmom, stepsister, prove to her it's her father's daughter.
"Your dad, darling, was a psychic. He insulted a serial killer. Killed your stepsister. Joined the CBI for 10 years for when I was the head of investigation office. Found him eventually. You dad darling brought down the most corrupt circle of corrupt Californian law enforcement personnel to the ground! He almost got killed, thrice those night and day! Once in the burning house, once in hospital, and once by RJ's hands himself! He was, and still is a brave man.
Ewcaped to Mexico. Went back to FBI, where I "freely" joined him. Until eventually I married him.
And this grave, is why you're called so. It sounds rude to say honey, but.. your stepsister had to die for you to be. If she were alive, you wouldn't be here. Her blood was the price for your existence.

This scene is sad, because Lisbon once again put all her trust in him, and she felt devastated that he couldn't trust her & her feelings for him are so clear. But this isn't the first time, the episode War of the Roses, with Erica Flyn, when Lisbon told him, is time to get her back she served her purposes, he said no, because he needed her. If you looked at Lisbon expression, was almost painful at this one. And Jane look at her as surprise and he smiled, like he couldn't believe she was Jealous.

There’s alot of emotions here. Jane is clouded by his desire to find Red John and feeling some compassion for Lorelai while simultaneously using her. Lisbon’s feelings for Jane are seeping to the surface. I think Jane is trying to read her but perhaps she was able to hide just enough that he wasn’t sure exactly what was happening with Lisbon because Lisbon is able to control her emotions although you can see in her eyes that there is more. At the very, very least, Jane does sorta explain and apologize. Lisbon lays down an ultimatum and they have a stare-down, but Jane is the one who backs down, I think, while Lisbon holds her ground. He never likes it when Lisbon is angry at him. This is such a well-acted scene between the two of them.
It’s true that Jane has always run off to explore whatever hunches develop in his brain. He comes and goes as he eliminates clues. So the fact that this particular time really bothers Lisbon shows that she’s developing feelings for Jane. She probably doesn’t know herself why this is bothering her so much.
There's a lot of negativity towards this storyline, but after watching "Red Sails in the Sunset" (05x08), there are plenty of clues that Jane is not really interested in Lorelei. He specifically asks for a room without a TV. When they first meet, they are watching TV together before they sleep together. Was he trying to avoid doing this again? Just trying to keep it business? When she kisses him before she leaves, he holds her at bay. There is no embrace. At the end of the episode, he says all his efforts were worth it because he did get another clue: that Red John is someone he already knows. This helps him to narrow down the suspects. This episode shows that Jane's desire for vengeance potentially could turn him very dark.
In 05x16 "There Will Be Blood," Jane confronts Lorelai about her brutality, showing that he doesn't approve of her methods. And to be honest, the fact that Lorelai does not allow Patrick to get involved is kinda a nice thing that she did for him. They both seek vengeance for their loved ones. She recognizes that she is going down the dark path and knows there is no way back for her. She wants, and encourages, him to stay on the better path. "You and me are on different roads, I hope." I think her role in his life is to remind him not to go down the wrong path like her, because in 05x08, he was looking pretty creepy at that end there. When Lorelai leaves to find Red John, Patrick doesn’t follow her because he is more interested in learning what Jason Lennon knows. He already knows she is no match for Red John. He tries to stop her but she won’t listen. Instead, she distracts him with a kiss and then shoots Jason Lennon and goes back on their agreement about giving Jane RJ’s real name. Jane is pissed about this. Lisbon was right about Lorelei, after all. (But Jane was right about the phone tapping in 06x01, so I think they're even.)
It’s also significant that when Lisbon asks Jane to stay behind while the team stakes out the board members, Jane follows her orders. He is showing his respect for Lisbon, and perhaps trying to show his appreciation to her after she stuck her neck out for him. When Jane sees that RJ has killed Lorelai, his response is simply “She had it coming.” They shared a connection through their tragedies, but he only goes after her when he thinks she can provide him information. Once she goes back on that promise, he has no more use for her and does not chase her. He does not respond to her loss the same way he responds when he thinks Lisbon is in danger.

I think inside Jane's fake breakdown at the end of season four was a concealed real breakdown: an exhausted impatience with his hunt for RJ that led him to take a gamble on embodying the role of an undercover agent.
In a warped way, Jane's genuine empathy for Lorelei (a woman who physically resembled Teresa, and psychologically resembled Jane if he had become a nihilist after his wife's death) accidentally revealed his inability to be as cold and unfeeling as he'd hoped. His warmth became real, but neither real nor fake affection could get him what he wanted from Lorelei, only the same trickery he had all along could. His con job was what won the slip up that led him to RJ, and that gave him the strength to move past the crisis of his battle fatigue. That and Lorelei's self destruction which he no doubt saw as a reflection of a more reckless version of himself.

    • @elenak9473
      @elenak9473 2 года назад +12

I will never believe Jane had anything resembling love to Lorelei. Only that empathy you mentioned, nothing more to the mistress of his family's killer. And that empathy wasn't something he cherished or was proud of - its nature is more reflex, involuntary, it's just a sign of his true loving and empathetic heart.
As for Erica - that kiss resembles me a scene from a zoo: a guy tests himself if he is brave and strong enough to touch some scary predator, a coyote or a hyena. He really is curious what it feels like to kiss this thing. So he does it and walks away.
So many viewers fell for Erica's sex appeal - I wonder how they manage to forget that Jane isn't fooled by looks, to him people usually are transparent so he definitely sees how ugly is that manipulative woman. He chooses not to judge, and I admire him for it but he can't help seeing right through Erica's wonderful looks down to her sociopathic core totally void of empathy.
One more thing: I love a nice contrast from the 1st season: how Jane and that weirdo pick-up artist Fricke described the secrets of conquering a woman. Fricke's bullshit way was contempt, control, excitement, while Jane simply named love and affection as keys to any woman's heart.
Ironically he wasn't ready to act openly on his own principles when his relationship with Teresa was threatened, he had to try trickery first.
But still during the first 6 seasons he continued to give Lisbon his love and affection - only secretly or sometimes even subconsciously.
That 'Anything for you, Lisbon', that constant care, all the beautiful things you mention in your comments proving that Teresa was never 'a toy' for him (ridiculous thing to say!!!).
He never missed an opportunity to say or do something really showing his love to her when he had a chance to do it as part of some plot: his 'I love you' in that rehab center (and with a changed voice!), his long and funny 'I've always wanted to tell you but never got a chance' when picking the door of that bomber (best trick to make that guy listen carefully what he was 'trying to say' and not hearing the sounds of the door being opened), all the times he found excuses to touch her, to cheer her up - pure love and affection, 'More Than Words'...

Jane is like an Asimovian robot. He obeys his ownThree Laws:
First Law -. Jane may not injure Lisbon or, through inaction, allow Lisbon being to come to harm. (But he can lie to her, deceit her, hide information etc.)
Second Law - Jane must protect his own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First Law. ( He would gladly sacrifice his life for Lisbon, knowing that she will continue the hunt for Red John (pun intended) )
Third Law - Jane must hunt down Red John, except where hunting down Red John would conflict with the First or Second Laws . (He would never endanger Lisbon in order to continue the hunt, and he himself will try to stay out of the harm's way until the final checkmate).
Granted, compared to the original laws of the robotics the second and third laws are kinda swapped ... but as far as I can tell that's the wiring inside Jane's head. :)

The writers enjoy teasing us and keep us guessing (will they or won't they get together) for like ten years... (this happens in all shows: X-Files, Jag, NCIS...). Normally and in real life it is IMPOSSIBLE to maintain a partnership under the name of friendship when there are romantic feelings involved (even if only one sided), let alone keeping it cool and professional when either or both of them seek to pursue a romantic relationship with a third person. It is simply IMPOSSIBLE, and yet we keep making assumptions and justifications (he won't let her close so that she doesn't become a target... ) trying to find excuses for them as to why/how do they avoid making tangible relationship-decisions until only after the final episode of the final season of decade long show. No, he isn't. Having some feelings for her doesn't mean he's in love, he's only attracted/attached to her cause he slept with her and probably relates to her for what happened to her sister but in 5x08 he didn't even want to kiss her

Jane only loved angela and then lisbon...he only loved these two womens in his whole life yes he has sympathy for lorelai bcs what happened to her sister but nothing more...people often confusing being attracted to someone is same as being in love with someone which is definitely not..jane was attracted to lorelai so did with erica Flynn or lisbon was attracted to mashburn or pike...but jane and lisbon loved each other and absolutely made for each other and they are not some horny teenagers for that rigsby and vanpelt is enough in the show...they are mature adults though sometimes they behave like a love struck teenagers while blushing and giggling in front of each other...

No he's hot.He can understand the Lorelai's drama but he' s almost sexually atracted for her and very very hot.Without sexual atraction Jane had stopped that a long time a go.

It took me a while to realize that it is strangely to Jane's credit that he cared for Lorelei at all. I found it noxious initially, but in retrospect it reveals who he really is: a powerfully manipulative man who can't outrun his flesh and blood heart. He couldn't help feel compassion when he got close enough to manipulate her, but he still let her loose knowing she could run right back to Red John. Even Agent Darcy got more protectiveness from him than that. He cared for her, but to say he was in love with her when he wound her up and shot her straight at Red John is just not accurate. It was shamefully shortsighted of him not to realize she'd try to kill RJ herself, and that's because his desire to kill RJ outweighed his concern for her.
Between Lisbon's safety and Red John, he always chose Lisbon's safety. His compassion for Lorelei couldn't reach that far.

I liked the relationship between Lorelei and Patrick. It was mysterious, unpredictable, and romantic. Lisbon and Jane was predictable. Especially since Lisbon is so transparent you know she's in love with him. It wasn't a surprise at all they married at the end. Lorelei and Patrick storyline was WAY more interesting. They may have used each other but the chemistry between them was electric! Lisbon and Jane SO BORING!!
