    Dude... I had no idea Anodyne did damage to the undead. That's so cool. I love these vocation videos of yours. Back when I played Dragon's Dogma I only ever used the Mystic Knight or Magick Archer because I didn't really understand how any of the other vocations could ever come close to being as cool. But after watching your videos explaining what each one can actually do and how to use them effectively. I have a whole lot of respect for all the vocations now. Thank you bud. You're really good at this game.

I was “oh no, I like him, why!!!” lol I still keep him to upper levels and it serves well because I noted that my experience points boosts if you include a very low level pawn in your party. Now I equip all the mage pawns hired with Legions’ Might so they never die.

  • @noneofyourbiz5973

    Nice video. My mage/Sorcerer pawn (LVL20). As a mage it acts as a support pawn with only High Ingle for attack. I found that Levin was too slow to cast and would often miss the enemy as they would run through it. But the most important thing for my pawn is that it needed to be as far away from the enemy as possible to be efficient in it's support. Levin/Frazil/Frigor - the pawn needed to be closer to the enemy. High Ingle has far more range and is very quick and versatile. I also found that my mage pawn would get confused with too many attack spells (for some reason) and would sometimes cancel, then attempt to do another spell:
    High Ingle
    High Grapnel
    Holy Affinity
    High Anodyne
    High Halidom
    High SpellScreen
    Legions Might, is the staff of choice along with wearing stability boots. Also -- full immunity to silence/sleep/Petrification/Possession.
    Acuity
    Attunement
    Articulacy
    Sinew (wanting to get the pawn to be a good little helper for all your needs:)
    Inflection (halving the damage is so useful as the mages don't have good health bonuses when levelling)
    Ferocity.
    When I switch it to Sorcerer, it's rather limited as it's tight on dicipline points at lvl 20. So I usually roll with a debilitation sorcerer with the Rusted Archstaff:
    High Miasma
    Comestion
    Frigor
    High Void spell
    Fulmination
    Petrification
    I tried using frazil on the pawn to apply the topor affect, but it wasn't really that effective in using it.
    One thing I would have liked to see is Petrification being more effective on ALL creatures. It's very unfortunate that it's limited to mostly small to mid creatures only.

    • @harryunderwood9387
      @harryunderwood9387 4 года назад +10

      For lore reasons I've no clue. For mechanical reasons they're both primary weapons, thus can't be equipped in the same slot (MA can't use daggers and staff, Assassin can't use shield and Bow, etc.). For gameplay reasons it means you've access to some of the most effective skills in the game - debilitations and magical damage from the staff, and sheer damage for the sword, thus there's no weakness in your design; at least Mystic Knight needs time to set up, and Magick Archer needs to either charge spells or be agile enough to not get knocked off what they're grabbing, and these two are the most powerful vocations in the game.
      I'll admit, I would like the aesthetics, as MK was more about the shield, but these are the reason I can think of why it won't happen.

      @@brachialtick6539 Perhaps it was better to say they're the Vocations most commonly referred to as being the most powerful and versatile, even though really any Vocation can be effective if you know what you're doing. Both have access to Magick and Physical damage, both are rather difficult to kill in general and both have a large repertoire of skills that enable enough variation to avoid getting monotonous. It also could have something to do with them having access to rather balanced stat growths and and armour defenses (as in more than just a lot in just magick or physical defense), assuming they even got hit. • @harryunderwood8535

    Can someone explain to me why the Sorcerer has Voidspell, which is supportive, while Mage doesn't? Those ailments are some of the most annoying alongside Curse and Skill Stifling, but the Sorcerer only has the counter to them. This means against Petrificarion and lowered stats a Mage is useless (yes, the party should have curatives anyway, but it still makes no sense). Even if it's something like higher magick is needed to resist those effects, it doesn't explain why the Sorcerer has it, when it really would prefer a more offensive spell like Comestion or Fullmentation.
    Also there is no reason for why the Mage gets the worst stat growths of all Vocations (especially in terms of stamina). IMO, the Mage should gain more stamina than the Sorcerer, so there is legitimate reason to stay as a Mage rather than a Sorcerer when focusing on stat growths, as you gain less magick dmg but can cast more often (just as an example. You could instead make them more tanky or something instead). I know armour and weapons is what really matters in lvl 100+, but I'd still like statistical incentive to play Mage over Sorcerer.

    • @AuntySocialQueen
      @AuntySocialQueen 5 лет назад +9

      And the Magick Archer has a spell better than both classes, Great Ward Arrow. Not only does it cure ALL debilitations but it also grants the Impervious status for about...2 and a half minutes (Impervious literally makes you and your targets immune to debilitations including drenched).
      With the Switch port coming out I'd honestly like to see Capcom add a few more of the high level spell rings to the game for the Mage. It could do with a Grand Halidom, Grand Grapnel and Grand Spellscreen.

      Keep coming back to this game after a few months, and this issue still confounds me. Maybe if they just gave a passive reduction in stamina consumed by magick skills to the Mage (similar to how Striders have reduced climb stamina cost), it'd be ok, but then again that'd only really be damage control for those inexcusable stat growths.
      I can only happily play Mage after leveling to 100 as a Sorcerer, though by that time I'm conditioned to play in a way that the Mage struggles to compete in - prep Maelstrom, cast Miasma/Lassitude at the base (depends on if I have a GF Rusted Archistaff), then maybe Comestion, Frigor, etc. I'm also in the small group of people who love being supportive as a Mage, and seeing my Pawns suffering from the ONLY DEBILITATIONS I CAN'T CURE genuinely upsets me. The Grapnel plays do alleviate the moments to an extent though.

      DD really has some serious baked in flaws like these kinds of counterintuitive stuff where upgrading a spell (and may I say it is irreversible) on your pawn can actually make it worse. For a first game I guess we can tolerate it but I hope Capcom is aware of these and improves it in DD2. There's no reason for an upgraded spell that casts twice as long to have the same power as the base spell. That's just ridiculous.
