Can you show how you started this project? Please. Can you show how you made the thumb hole? Can you how you ended this project? Any information on how to use this stitch would be greatly appreciated. I would like to make a "Hedeby Bag" (a Viking Era bag with the wooden frames at the top), using this stitch, but I can't find much information about it.
Of course you most certainly can use "regular yarn". However, most modern "wool" is actually made from acrylic. So you can certainly nalbind in acrylic, but its not necessarily helpful to learn as a beginner, a historical craft with modern fibres. I would recommend learning the craft from the historical foundation using wool, so you can see and understand how the stitches form, how the textile builds and how you can shape your items. Theres a reason why this craft developed using natural fibres. Nalbinding in acrylic or even plant fibres, requires a series of adaptions. That you only learn, when your nalbinding from a strong craft foundation and skill. Thats why wool is recommend for beginners. Once you feel confident in your nalbinding skill, then of course, you can explore your own craft. 😊
