Welcome to Addicted to Watches, today we have a watch from the other big Japanese brand, Citizen. Increasingly of late Citizen have been on my radar as well as the radar of many other watch-obsessed individuals. They have been doing some very interesting things and seem to really have their finger on the pulse of what the market wants. This is one such watch. This is the Citizen Nb3020-16W.

The dial is gorgeous, but that date window is like: "Here, let me ruin this dial for you!" - Stomp - "There you go".
I feel like it would look quite a bit cleaner with a black date wheel to better match the dial
Too big for most people. I don’t understand why companies insist on making dress watches more than 39mm
It could be a restriction because of the size of the movement itself within the case for this watch
I do prefer the way the Seiko sarw011 handled the date with a subdual pointer date

They really under-promise and over-deliver when it comes to condition
100% agreed . Bought a citizen chronomaster from "the closer" on chrono24. Watch was ranked as "fair" got the watch and it looked BRAND NEW!
I bought a The Citizen Chronomaster pre-owned & it's like new. Best deal I ever had using Buyee.
Without the roman numerals, I'd definitely pull the trigger. Beautiful nonetheless
I have many Citizen watches, and also several Grand Circus
The dial looks like a throwback to the 90s where everything was faux patina and mixed fonts. It's not that attractive to me but I can see why someone would like it.
I have the blue 3 hander version. I feel this one is too busy with the complications which takes away from the dial and makes it too thick for a dress watch. I love the more premium movement as well. Citizen gives good value for money though as similar seiko movement will be found in more expensive SJE series.
If they made this colour dial as a 3 hander I'd be all over it

Citizen watches are very very clean under the crystal, very less to no dust!! and priced competitively

I have several citizen watches, including this one, and two grand seiko watches. The dial is great citizens watches provide great value. There really is no comparison whatsoever between a grand Seiko dial and this dial, not even close
True there's been a spate of reviews like this stating that £100 - £250 watches are Rolex or Grand Seiko level. You wonder if the reviewers even understand watch brands. If you've ever held a Rolex or Grand Seiko in your hand you'll know this is simply not the case. It's like saying a Toyota is Rolls Royce level.
Citizen makes a gorgeous dial… then covers it all up in unnecessary complications.
Same watch, no date, no 24 hour, no power reserve indicator = perfect watch.
A 3 hand, no date version of this dial would be 👌

Watch looks great, fan of Citizen watches. Personally would like to see other colors in this type of dial. Not a fan of the sub-dial, but like the power reserve indicator. Wish the watch was at 60 hours of power reserve Vs 40. Also with you on Roman numerals, prefer Arabic numbers. Great review on watch.

Excellent review! I'm new to your channel, and enjoyed the content and straightforward delivery. As far as that watch goes, I'm very much in agreement, except that for me the points you raised regarding the Roman numerals, and differing hand sizes on the secondary dials, would probably preclude me from purchasing this model. I'd also prefer if the power indicator and the relatively useless 24 hour sub-dial were each a bit smaller and took up less real estate on the dial. Especially since the dial is the star attribute of the watch. I'm less concerned about the 21 mm L2L.

The dial is absolute beauty but overall the watch look too busy.if it was simple like grand seiko it would be a no brainer watch

Looks good but I don’t like the date window and the height of 14mm
With the height coming partially from the domed crystal, it's not as bad as it sounds on paper. That said it's by no means a thin watch either 😅
Somehow Roman numerals cheapen up a watch. I think it’s because forever it felt like the trick that a cheap watch maker would use to try to make their watch look “fancy”.

I found that changing my Amazon to the Japanese version was a good way to buy some JDM models and have them shipped to Australia otherwise sites like Sakura are great

Citizen is doing better than Seiko at the same price point. I will take this any day over a Presage.
I think Seiko got too comfortable and stopped trying so hard while also increasing their prices. This left room for Citizen to come in

if I may, adjust your lighting background setup and use a circular polarizer. Like this, with all the reflections it's hard to watch. Content otherwise good

Unfortunately not. It matches the time of the main hands and can't be adjusted separately
The Roman 4 seems to be wrong… isn’t it supposed to be IV??
It's actually intentional. It's called a watchmakers's or clockmaker's 4

The chapter ring is absolutely redundant
There aren't any minute markings on the dial so if you want to get an accurate read of the time it kind of is. If they printed a minute track on the dial itself I'd agree with you

I guess since this is more of a dressy watch, Citizen didn't think it needed lume

Prefer the simpler version of this line, as they highlight the silver leaf dial pattern more and are less busy :)
I like those as well but the colour of this one in particular stood out to me. As nice as the blue 1060 is, there are a lot of other blue watches out there

Nice. I've been keen on one of those as well but haven't found one for the right price. The night sky dials looks really good

Damn , I've been caught out. After 60 odd videos about mostly Seiko watches, I sold my soul to the competition for a quick buck. Nothing gets past you clearly

Snark aside, how do you feel about the Citizen movements? Aren't they all just miyotas?
While I'm contractually obligated to say they are the best movements ever made, they seem fine to me. They are miyotas in that Citizen own miyota. No different to Tudor and kenissi. They tend to have higher beat rates than Seiko but the rotor wobble is what people complain about since it only winds in one direction and spins freely in the other
its a shame the crystal aint anti-glare enough
The camera definitely makes it look worse than in person but I do wish it was a bit better
You would have thought that it was obvious, if you cannot colour-match the date window then do not have a date on such a watch.
Finally, JDM products just piss me off and turn me against the company concerned. If I am paying big money then I do not want any hassles if I need servicing or a warranty claim.

The date frame looks ok to me. The date wheel seems to have some kind of mark/texture though. I'm guessing it's intentional and possibly some kind of paper texture/material similar to their washi dials on "the citizen" models

Grand Seiko has signed(Logo) crown, Citizen has not.

I dislike Grand Seiko comparisons which are not accurate. That’s a nice dial but not GS caliber. It’s super common to make this sort of claim, and while I’m not a GS fanboy, I do own one and can confidently say that even at 10-15k you rarely see competition for the dial and the dial furniture. This watch is a Presage competitor.
Dial stunning. Everything on dial is a holy mess. Sponored means this is a commercial. Worthless.

you mean to thick at 14 mm…. the case size of 40 mm is inline with the calatrava at 39mm which is the benchmark for a gentleman’s dress watch. the calatrava is just under 9 mm thick
patek, Frederique Constant both have 21 mm lug widths. VC , Rolex, Omega usually use 20 mm… I own GS snowflake and love it
