I agree totally. Only 10 to 20 % of the plane capacity is Business or First Class. I would like to see some Premium Economy Class Flight review mad by Josh 🙂 I tried this alternative in Lufthansa and Iberia on my flight from Bogotá (Colombia) to Europe several times and I like it....good service, a lot of space and a decent price...

Most of Qantas’ issues at the moment is related to senior management (and it’s CEO). The actual flights themselves are still fantastic, as we see in this video.
Totally agree. Onboard experience is generally good or great. And if you aren't the one paying for the ticket and therefore interested in value, even better. It's dealing with every other aspect of being a Qantas customer that is so very painful. Also, disagree with Josh's opening remark about Qantas suffering more than any other airline due to the pandemic (unless I misunderstood). Surely overall that would go to Cathay?
@@stevemartin8053 Qantas is best in Australia, indeed! But Local 1 hour Flight from Perth to Kalgoorlie will cost you around 500 dollars. I am driving istead.
As qantas crew myself its great to see that you enjoyed your flight with us, even in economy. Hopefully will have you on one of my flights in the future. Keep up the good work Josh 👍✈
I travel Qantas a fair bit and while the hard product varies sometimes, I'm always grateful for the consistently excellent service from you wonderful cabin crew!
I always fly Qantas from Melbourne to Perth to see my family. The cabin crew are always such a joy! On my last flight, a crew member snuck my a small pile of Kit Kats! I think we Aussie can all agree that we look forward to the CEO Alan Joyce getting the boot and to a brighter future for our Queen of the skies
On one of my flights the QANTAS crew very politely asked me if I'd agree to move seats (aisle seat to similar aisle seat) so another passenger could sit with his colleague. I had no issue and they gave me 2 Penfolds bottles of wine from the galley and a $100 duty free voucher as thanks. They were so thankful and polite. I've seen other airlines (American) who just rudely tell you to move and that's it. QANTAS is always great to fly on in my 30 years of flying with them.
CEO Alan Joyce sacked hundreds of long serving employees (ground staff, baggage handlers, tug drivers etc) and 'imported' overseas cheaper labour, some of whom, had never set foot on a tarmac before. AJ sold thousands of tickets on non-existent flights, cancelled flights on days of departure, thus causing thousands of traveler's to lose their holiday bookings, reservations etc. Not to mention the saga of lost baggage and refusal to compensate those..Yet he gets paid millions of dollars in wages, has 10 million worth in stocks and will walk away with a $24 million dollar handshake...That's QANTAS QuickAndNastyTypicaAustralianService.
They lost my luggage for 5 days last year. Sydney to London. They paid my replacement clothing bill of six hundred and something dollars within days of my claim.
Flew Heathrow to Perth with Qantas in July, just over 16 hours. Ended up with a middle seat in the middle of the row, but got lucky that the aisle seat was empty by doors close. All your points were echoed on that flight; meals were great, the crew are always doing laps of the cabin, and are just the nicest people, and the IFE is super varied. It's one of few airlines where you get what you pay for at all cabin levels.
Hi Josh. Not sure why you say Qantas suffered more than other airlines thru the pandemic? They got huge government support throughout, but didn't treat their staff, or their customers, at all well by all accounts. Is that what you were referring to??
I guess because Australia was in lockdown for longer than many other countries with no foreigners being allowed to enter for most of the time which means flights out of Australia must have been either not possible or highly unprofitable.
Australia completely closed its borders for 2.5 years. Except a handful of repatriation international flights plus domestic travel restrictions in Asutralia, the demand to fly with them hit rock bottom. Assistance from the government is only a short term solution. To make a full recovery they're gonna have to get all their aircraft back in the sky -something they're still trying to accomplish at full capacity.
The money (Jobkeeper) went to Qantas employees who were stood down and would otherwise not have had an income. Do you really believe the employees should not have received that money? I find it the absolute height of stupidity when people call for Qantas to repay the Jobkeeper supplement. @@Design_no
This is why I always choose an aisle seat - it's good to be able to get up often & not have to worry about disturbing your neighbour. I once flew Qantas from Perth to London ( 17.5 hours!) in economy & it wasn't too bad. I slept only a few hours but got up & went to the galley & for a walk quite often.
This month I’m looking at 33 hours from Melbourne Australia to Athens but that does include airport stop overs, 20.5 hours flying time. Arriving in Athens at 2.45am. That sort of flight and my advanced age 🙄demands payment at the stupid level for business class. When I was younger I could do the 36hours from Australia to the Cayman Islands or anywhere else in economy but no longer.
deffo aisle seat for anything more than 4/5 hours. i go for walkies round the cabin, down to the catering dept, all the way to the loos at the front; minimises risk of dvt and allows for a glass (mini bottle) of wine or 3!
Great review! I used to fly on the Qantas 787-9 Perth to London flight (16-17h) quite frequently in economy. I'm not sure if you're aware, but the storage "net" (for lack of a better word) on the back of the chair in front of you is actually designed for your legs to go in... essentially it cradles your legs/calves, and with your seat fully reclined, you'll actually find you will be able to get some sleep. Unlike other airlines with bars/foot-rests that move down, the net stops your legs from slipping/moving during sleep, so you don't find yourself being woken quite as often...
We came to Bangkok from Sydney and stayed here for 3 months (my wife is Thai). We flew economy on a direct flight. I am not fussy about food, but the two meals I had in the 9 1/2 hour flight were the worst I've ever had on a plane. Our return flight is booked for Jan 3. It's via Singapore. We were supposed to wait for a couple of hours for a connecting flight to Sydney, but Qantas changed the second flight twice, and now we have to wait 8 hours in Singapore. No apology. My wife wanted to stay a little longer, so I tried to change our tickets. I had a flexi return ticket so I assumed that, being high season I was going to be charged a couple of thousand Aussie dollars for the change. After waiting a couple of days to get through to their Bangkok office (I couldn't do it online) I managed to talk to a human. I asked to get me a flight two weeks later, I am flexible with dates, and get me the cheapest as I don't mind catching a connecting flight from Singapore. The quote I was given was an additional AU$4,900 each for the return economy flight!!! I've been a Qantas frequent flyer for 40 years... Goodbye Qantas!
Great review Josh as always! I think at the moment Australians are finding it hard to seperate Qantas’s CEO from the airline itself and it’s staff. The airline still offers a great product and every time I fly with them I still feel at home. It is a shame that Alan Joyce has given some of that spirit to the shareholders instead of the country. Hopefully Vanessa (upcoming CEO) will bring the airline back to the people in all aspects.
Its the cancellations, lack of refunds, 30min wait for bags, and hours on hold to speak to someone that are the big problems. The flights themselves are the same as they ever were.
Overall QANTAS is still a decent airline, It’s just a shame at the moment that it’s upper management for lack of a better words is “Toxic”. Thankfully Alan Joyce is on the way out, So hopefully the new incoming CEO works their magic and takes QANTAS to the next level to be the Airline it deserves to be.
As a long time QANTAS customer and flyer of other airlines where QANTAS doesn't operate, QANTAS is always towards the top when it comes to quality of planes, service, food as well as price. People often complain about the price of a QANTAS ticket, but compared to other airlines of the same quality the tickets are roughly the same price.
@@michaelsmith697 Here’s hoping, As one of the Domestic routes I take a fair bit is Port Macquarie to Melbourne. Why would I pay $300+ for 2x flights with a stop over in Sydney (PMQ - SYD on a Dash 8 then SYD - MEL on a 737) and it take around 4 - 6 hours pending on flight schedules. When I can fly with Bonza PMQ - MEL direct for $69 on a 737 and be there with just on an hours flight (PMQ - SYD on the Dash 8 is a 1 hour flight alone). Sure bonza’s a low cost airline but I’ll be more then happy to give up “Full service” to cut 3+ hours off my travel time and save $200+ each way in the process.
My only Qantas experience(s) were back in 2015. I know the industry has changed a lot since then, especially post-Covid, by man those were some awesome flights. I flew on an A380 from Los Angeles to Melbourne, a 767 from Melbourne to Sydney, and on my way home it was 747 Perth to Los Angeles. Fantastic. I can’t wait to go back some day.
Eff Aug 2024, Qantas will deploy a daily A380 on this route. But believe me, it will still be packed. The local traffic between Australia and South Africa is huge!
And still none from Perth to JHB. It would be packed as well. We flew from Perth to Singapore then jhb. That 11 hr flight Sin-JHB killed me. Want to see what the economy Premium would be like. Will try the per-Mauritius-jhb next
Yeah, it's crazy rhat Qantas has not yet resumed the Perth to Johannesburg flights! However I believe that had something to do with the quarantine situation. Apparently the flights from South Africa required some extra quarantine check that the Qantas international terminal was not equipped for. Ridiculous really.
It looked quite a good flight. The trouble with having a bad reputation is that it takes a lot of time to get a good reputation back. Personally, I am very angry with Qantas to the point where I won't fly with them. I may come back but they need to do something consistently and substantially better for me to return.
Glad you enjoyed your inflight service on Quantas. I can tell the seats / level of interaction between crew and passengers and meals make or break a 14 hr flight. I hope you got much needed rest.
@@AbdiNiinistö 😁It's great that we can have different allegiances in football. Being a Manchester City fan has brought me a lot of joy, and I'm proud of my support for the team.
That is a lovely lounge! I like the airport as well. Sorry the plane is full. Quanta is the first airline I’ve seen that gives an amenities kit in economy. The service and food looked good. I’ve also not seen a snack deal for economy either. Clean loos are a joy. Nice hotel room. I am very impressed by Quanta’s. Have a good sleep.
I traveled back to South Africa in mid July on this very flight as well and came back to Australia two weeks later. Coming back was almost three hours quicker than on the outbound route. Always fascinates me.
that is the effects on aviation of the Jet stream flows. from wikipedia: The location of the jet stream is extremely important for aviation. Commercial use of the jet stream began on 18 November 1952, when Pan Am flew from Tokyo to Honolulu at an altitude of 7,600 metres (24,900 ft). It cut the trip time by over one-third, from 18 to 11.5 hours.[34] Not only does it cut time off the flight, it also nets fuel savings for the airline industry.[35][36] Within North America, the time needed to fly east across the continent can be decreased by about 30 minutes if an airplane can fly with the jet stream, or increased by more than that amount if it must fly west against it. Associated with jet streams is a phenomenon known as clear-air turbulence (CAT), caused by vertical and horizontal wind shear caused by jet streams.
I think you missed the biggest feature of the Qantas 787 dreamliner: They have a "net" as a footrest / foot suppor which makes those long flights a breeze. I just flew PER-LHR return (17:45h) and had no issues at all. The large area in the back of the aircraft is nice to stretch out and have a chat to the crew or other passengers. There are also two fridges with all sorts of drinks and snacks which you can help yourself to. There are also spare headphones and amenety kits. I always used to fly Emirates and stop over in Dubai due to flying A380, but this direct flight will replace that for me
Thanks, Josh. Very informative. I also travelled SYD-JNB five months ago, also on the QFA 787, QF 63, but up the front of the bus. We also used the QF biz lounge at Kingsford-Smith. I was a little muffed to see in your video that the free galley snack-packs were for economy, as well as business! Our flight route took us much further south into the Southern Ocean than yours; closer to the Antarctic - there was quite a bit of turbulence at that time and I was having a decent chat to the Second Officer whilst we were waiting for the lavatory. At that point he got onto the flight deck phone/intercom and I held onto the nearest pole I could find, for dear life! Obviously it was a very different experience for me than you, but the Dreamliner was a beautiful, new plane with ridiculously quiet engines and the equal-highest climb ratio of any aircraft in 2023 (along with the A350). QANTAS experience was excellent/faultless, wonderful cabin attendants, but one expects that in the upper classes; I have had a couple of shocking experiences with them on BNE-SYD/SYD-BNE, econ, recently, where the aircraft/seats/cabin crew were atrocious, cabin crew unpleasant, extremely rude. QF is in a lot of trouble right now, not financially anymore, but as a result of that awful Alan Joyce. Disgusting that he bailed ship early, but still received a golden handshake of $24 m. Thanks again for the great film, Josh!
Hey Josh, thanks for the video. Glad that you did the economy for all of us. Think that really works out for the masses rather when one is travelling in business class. Coz like you said - that’s reality for most. But 14 hours on business will also make you as knackered. Great video!!!
Hey Josh, I just wanted to say I took Qantas 2 weeks ago from Sydney to Vancouver and I was honestly super impressed. I literally had the same experience as you and my impression is that to me this is the best airline I have ever taken in the world. amazing crew, good food, solid entertainment what else do you need, Yes I agree the flight is long.
Considering the adverse publicity/reputation that Qantas have received over the last few years that looked a pretty good flight, food looked good as did the seat and IFE, good also to hear that the cabin crew were actually looking after passengers throughout the flight rather than hiding in the galley.
That's a tough one Josh. I've done the EK flights from DXB - IAD many times and that's close on 14 hours so never easy. But EK have the A380's on that route so much easier than a B787 in economy
I flew the Qantas 747 return flights between these 2 cities in 2019, and it was amazing. Flew over the ice of Antarctica ... Soon after my flight, the 747s were retired...
I flew with Qantas in economy from DFW to MEL (17h) and then last week from MEL to LAX (+13h). Both times on the 787. I also flew with them domestically within Australia. I honestly thought they were brilliant. The long haul flight was not as bad as I imagined it would be. I was truly impressed. We were really looked after by the cabin crew who were friendly and proactive. I don't know why, but I had expected a BA-like experience. Qantas was much much better than BA, by far. No comparison. I rather fly economy for 17h with Qantas than BA transatlantic for 7 or 8 hours any day. Bravo to Qantas! So glad your experience was similar to mine.
I did 22 and a half hours of travel on Qantas with 5 hours to Perth and then another 16 hours to Rome. I found the flights and the meals, seats, and crew great (the excitement was helped by the fact it was a 100 year anniversary aircraft)! It was such a long flight but I also found it far superior than Air France 13 hours to Singapore. The fact that it was a 777 vs a 787 helped but I found the seats, food (especially quantity of food, and crew better with Qantas.I know that Qantas has so many issues but onboard they are very impressive. Every time I fly with them I feel like I’m at home.
Looks better than their A330! I had Ryanair levels of legroom for 8 hours a few months ago, it’s a miracle I didn’t get a blood clot. The food was inedible too and pretty average crew, you couldn’t pay me to fly Qantas again.
As a long time Qantas customer, there's no crisis at Qantas. Great airline compared to most others. Food in Qantas is always great quality. Service is always very good compared to most. No complaints.
Some mistakes….The southernmost flight of Qantas is from SCL to SYD. There are two additional flights at least that connect Africa to Australia. There is a Qantas flight to Perth and Air Mauritius (if you consider Mauritius part of Africa) to Perth. Flight from SYD to DFW is longer than 14 hours.
Great review, I’ve travelled that route several times on a 747, so it was interesting to see the comparison with the 787. The seats looked very good for economy, although I would hate to be in that window seat in a 3-3-3 configuration. Have you made any Singapore airlines flights recently. I flew Melbourne to London and then Frankfurt to Melbourne recently, in Premium Economy, and have been a SIA flyer for years and had always found them top notch even in economy class. This was my first long haul flight post pandemic, and have to say my experience this time was not great, the PE seats were great, but the food and service, not so much, food was average and on my final leg was poor. There was no drink service at all, even on the long legs from Europe to Singapore, you had to request drinks. The vanity pack was “on request” and as you mentioned in this review, cabin crew seemed to hide out in the galley. I would be interested if to hear if you have used them recently.
I did 5 Qantas flights recently and I found it a solid airline. Clean and well maintained aircraft, decent food. Friendly crews. Good product. Flew a lot in my life 7 years Star alliance gold and 3 years Oneworld gold
Ahhh 14 hours in economy… painful. I was glad to see they offered decent service. I flew on the Qantas red eye from Singapore to Melbourne in March and it was not great. Only 1 meal served. But generally the plane was goes and the staff attentive. I’ve flown QF to LAX a few times and it’s a LONG flight….
Before COVID, there was a A340 from South African Airlines that went from Perth to Joberg, daily, I loved waiting for that flight on radar (I live in Freo), and remember thinking 'Good luck' for such a long, ocean-view-only isolated route (remembering MH370). Pity they've not picked it back up again, seems like it'd be popular & I love the 340.
Hoping SAA get it together soon and start doing JNB to PER again. Perth has the biggest South African population outside of SA, we need that flighr back. Air Mauritius have returned post pandemic to Perth, at least , so we can get to Port Louis again :)
Yeah I wish that SAA can take it over too. I believe that Qantas had to stop that flight because of some special quarantine check that the Qantas international terminal at Perth was not equipped to do. Wouldn't have been a problem at the regular Perth international terminal which SAA would use.
@@dennisrettke yes Qantas is in a fight with Perth Airport over which terminal they use. SAA wouldn't have any issues if they could get back over here to Perth , they would operate out of T1 international , like they had been doing pre Covid. Qantas on the other hand 🤦
As an Australian, I still like Qantas but fly them rarely. I flew Canberra to Australia on their 717-200s and it was fantastic but I’m used to Virgin Australia and Rex
Hey Josh, just a heads up about the bay you mentioned when departing Sydney. It’s proper name is Botany Bay. Nice to see you down here with us again in Australia! Botany Bay is famous as it’s where the First Fleet of convicts from England arrived in 1788 after a voyage of 8 months sailing from England, of which one was my ancestor.
They didn't stay in Botany Bay. Arthur Phillip thought it swampy and unsuitable. That's why he took the fleet north a short bit up the coast and found the amazing harbour which he called Port Jackson. Josh knows a bit about Oz, he lived for quite some time. He was actually born here !! Which makes him half Aussie... Can't you hear bits of Aussie accent in his voice, mixed with European?
I actually was on a flight to Cancun a few months ago and flew AC. The safety video incorporated culture and venues from each of Canadas Provinces and territories. I actually felt very proud as a Canadian. They have just released a new video, but I have not seen it!
I flew on Qantas economy class from Singapore to Melbourne and it was one of the best economy class experiences i have had. As Josh mentioned the crew was amazing and attentive. The food was amazing, and one of the best parts was the seat. The A330-300 has amazing seats.
you are a nice guy Josh , not getting annoyed by these couple of girls sitting beside you especially when they were having there ice cream 😂and too saying they were lovely , really class from you man
I flew to Australia from LAX...it was awesome!!! Trivia...Quantas is the only airline thar never had a crash...almost had with 32, that was a flight for the passengers... every time the plane would drop the ppl that weren't belted in went slamming into the ceiling...once landed, some ppl were suing...but, Quantas basically screwed one of their best flight attendant they had...he did not get but a five digit settlement...he was hurt quite a bit
Your 'trivia' is wrong. Qantas has had numerous crashed involving loss of life for their passengers. They can say they have never had a jet powered aircraft crash that has involved loss of life, but most certainly the B747 aircraft crash in Bangkok although no loss of life was definitely a severe crash; "The damage was such that the aircraft was initially a write-off, but to preserve its reputation Qantas had it repaired at a cost of approximately AU$100 million (the exact figure was never disclosed by Qantas). Returning the aircraft to service enabled Qantas to retain its record of having no hull-loss accidents since the advent of the Jet Age."
Interesting video. My last experience of Qantas was back in 2003 - Singapore to London, 747... I'm 183cm tall and was stuck in middle seats of the four (3-4-3). The seat pitch was diabolical and my knees felt awful by the end. Another flight I did was in 2016, with the, then LAN Airlines, now LATAM, Madrid to Santiago, that was 14 hours and because Chilean people are very short, the seat pitch was also horrendous on the 787-9, that said, the crew were great. I flew back from Chile on Iberia, having upgraded at the last minute, to business, but the flight wasn't enjoyable, as I had serious gastrointestinal illness (haemorrhaging!) managed the flight somehow, but visited the Loo around 35 times!
I can see that those experiences wouldn’t have been comfortable but there are a large number of people your height or over, someone has to sit in the middle seat and I’m sure you would have the same experience, if not worse, in economy on any airline as seat pitch and leg room is pretty standard.
Good to see you had a good time regardless of all the controversies about QANTAS, their outgoing CEO and board. For example, just this week QANTAS, the Australian consumer affairs are giing after them for selling tickets on flights they were never going to fly.
Qatar wanted to fly extra flights to Australia but the government refused to protect Qantas, what a Piss take, ordinary people have to pay inflated prices ,what happened to competition?
@@jon-ie4li Qatar has the same slots as every other international airline that comes to aus if not more. What makes them think they’re so special they’re able to have the same amount of slots as an Australian owned airline. It’s not a piss take, saying Qatar coming to Australia is going to decrease air fares is a load of rubbish. Qatar is one of the most expensive airlines and will only push the fares up. The ceo of virgin only wants Qatar to have more slots because Virgin has an alliance with Qatar. So her whinging to the accc doesn’t mean anything for air fares it’s only money for her back pocket with no change to airfares. There’s still multiple alternative routes to get out of Australia without flying qantas already without Qatar flying extra flights. Qantas already has enough competition to decrease airfares so not sure why you you think anything would change if Qatar were allowed in aus more frequent.
@@hamboman5437Alan Joyce was interviewed about the high airfares and he had the hide to say, and I quote," When there's more competition you will see airfares come down, especially when Cathay ramp up their services". @@Paininthrneck yes but as an already high air fare airline it’s not going to do as much as everyone thinks. Admittedly it will decrease but by how much no one knows.
Josh, I am surprised you didn't go for the last seat ;) I took your advice and chose the last seat of a 787 and there are only two seats in economy rather than 3. This gives you space to the left if you sit by the window.
I think all things considered the Qantas in air product is still very solid. No where near the best but also no where near the worst. Considering all the dramas the airline is putting itself through at present that is about all you can hope for. If they sort out their back of house it should allow their flying side to return where it was which is important if they want to still be considered a premium airline rather than just charging a premium price!
The crew at Qantas are great. The biggest problem was the outsourcing of ground handling with delays on top of delays. Go on flight radar and look up the logs of QF3 and QF4 SYD HNL SYD. Just watch how much later and later the planes get. Usually due to baggage handling and maintenance issues. Also the fares are ridiculously high in Australia. $ 2000 dollar Syd Drw return and yes it was the back of the plane and also had a 4 hour stopover in ASP.
This year had a few domestic flights on Quantas (one on a 717) and I was impressed, great service by ground staff and Cabin crew and comfy seats. Think there are a lot of airlines who are a lot worse! Fav safety video is a difficult one but the video from Korean Air is really over the top with all the K-Pop stuff.
As a Dane I'm proud of the Opera House, though it became a sad story for its architect, Jørgen Utzon! After a disagreement with the builders, he left the built and never came back. So it is mostly the outside that was his responsibility. I think though that his son, also an architect, has been hired to make it more modern inside. His father still lived when this happened, so they could consult about what to do. The restaurants in the middle is a horrible mix of tubes and glass, as Utzon took his Standard Built System with him when he left, so they had to make a computer program to make plans for the glass.
Thanks for this review. Qantas is in turmoil now because it seems to be all about getting rid of the CEO (now gone) who is believed to be the source of all its legal and reputation troubles. I'm glad you had a great flight. I've been flying Qantas for 30 years. I do love that beef and mash meal. I sometimes ask if there's one left over!
The 787s I have flown of different airlines didn't have air vents which sucks (to me at least). It looks like that Qauntas 787 has air vets which is great.

This is a criminal act if true.
Alan Joyce should be sent to the prison.
Actually Qantas got Dnata and Menzies to do the ground work. Qantas sold off their catering to dnata few years ago.
Don’t lie, why do you even do this?
I agree. I’d say the airlines that suffered the most have to be Cathay Pacific and ANA
And it turns out because of that they didn't need any tax payer support. We want our money back.
17.5 hours! OMG. Even in First Class that would be brutal!!
Frankfurt - Lisbon - San Francisco is the same length..
jennyt7612: 17.5 hours! 😵💫 And I thought 14 hours from LA to Sydney was long! Yes, the aisle seat is the best bet on long flights.
My best flight this year was premium economy from Santiago to Sydney in Qantas, 14 hours flight
Bloody expensive 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 even economy not fear
Before the plandemic you used to buy two tickets for the amount of money !
Air New Zealand got a great safety message like Qantas ones, very down under ones
10:52 Some wild tongue action on that Paddle Pop from your seatmate! 😜
We can only hope. They need to be more competitive with fares and improve on the cabin service
As a long time QANTAS customer and flyer of other airlines where QANTAS doesn't operate, QANTAS is always towards the top when it comes to quality of planes, service, food as well as price. People often complain about the price of a QANTAS ticket, but compared to other airlines of the same quality the tickets are roughly the same price.
apparently the incoming CEO is the current CFO...word is that she is as bad as Joyce.
Joyce is a woke fool who is doing the same thing he allegedly did to air Lingus. I refuse to fly QF if they continue to be woke.
Air New Zealand's safety videos are great and to the point!
Damn, remember flying Qantas in late 2009, they even served us an ice cream in economy - the 767 was so comfortable
The Southern Hemisphere, is definitely under served. I took LAN twice AUK to Santiago in J Class. It was 99.5% full each time.
@Ronaldo-ue5if Inshallah Ameen. We make the Shahada 5 times a day. May we never cease, akhkh
Doesn’t this plane fly over Antarctica?
It looked quite a good flight. The trouble with having a bad reputation is that it takes a lot of time to get a good reputation back. Personally, I am very angry with Qantas to the point where I won't fly with them. I may come back but they need to do something consistently and substantially better for me to return.
Glad you enjoyed your inflight service on Quantas. I can tell the seats / level of interaction between crew and passengers and meals make or break a 14 hr flight. I hope you got much needed rest.
That QFA 2020 safety video I’ve seen and heard SO many times I can almost recite the whole thing off by heart. Love it 😂

Haha... 'Don't be a dickhead!' That is the best life advice you will ever receive. (and I am an Aussie)
I traveled back to South Africa in mid July on this very flight as well and came back to Australia two weeks later. Coming back was almost three hours quicker than on the outbound route. Always fascinates me.
Upper air wind direction.
That’s because of the current usually westerly air low. More trail winds traveling west to east. Going west is a pain.
Same what date??? I might have been on the same flight!
that is the effects on aviation of the Jet stream flows. from wikipedia: The location of the jet stream is extremely important for aviation.
10:51 Paddle pop - takes me back to my childhood
I think you missed the biggest feature of the Qantas 787 dreamliner: They have a "net" as a footrest / foot suppor which makes those long flights a breeze. I just flew PER-LHR return (17:45h) and had no issues at all.
The large area in the back of the aircraft is nice to stretch out and have a chat to the crew or other passengers. There are also two fridges with all sorts of drinks and snacks which you can help yourself to. There are also spare headphones and amenety kits.
I always used to fly Emirates and stop over in Dubai due to flying A380, but this direct flight will replace that for me
KLM safety video is by far the best one in the industry.
Thanks
Love that you in South Africa. Welcome welcome Welcome Josh. Can’t wait to see your adventures here in our country. ❤️❤️
My absolute favourite safety video is Air Canada's! Unbeatable.
1:25 there is a flight from Perth to Johannesburg
That's a tough one Josh. I've done the EK flights from DXB - IAD many times and that's close on 14 hours so never easy. But EK have the A380's on that route so much easier than a B787 in economy
“Best safety video:” Air New Zealand be like.
Keep it up Josh, you’re one of the most honest people and we appreciate that.
Singapore Airlines in my view has the best safety video
I've seen the safety video of singapore airlines. And I really like it. They use the seroundings of known places to show the things.
Fly the flight from ICN SYD on Qantas. It is ALWAYS least delayed a hour (usually 5hours) BC of a crappy 20 year old plane
As a long time Qantas customer, there's no crisis at Qantas. Great airline compared to most others. Food in Qantas is always great quality. Service is always very good compared to most. No complaints.
They just rip you off and fuck their domestic customers over.
Yeah, welll said. Aussies shouldn't think Alan Joyce represents the service on our planes which is still excellent. Plus Qantas's safety record.
Some mistakes….The southernmost flight of Qantas is from SCL to SYD. There are two additional flights at least that connect Africa to Australia. There is a Qantas flight to Perth and Air Mauritius (if you consider Mauritius part of Africa) to
Perth. Flight from SYD to DFW is longer than 14 hours.
Dependent on the planned flight route they do fly over Antarctica on the JHB -SYD route.
Qantas Sydney-Johannesburg is not the only flight from Australia to Africa. Qantas also flies non-stop between Perth and Johannesburg.
They no longer fly to Johannesburg from Perth, not sure why.
hey the saturday josh report! thank you ! :)
I have flown business class and economy numerous times with Qantas and always had a great experience. Always choose Qantas over any other airline
Pretty impressive for an economy ticket! The cabin, seats and furnishings of the aircraft looked smart and of a high standard. Good to know.
No question, your brain was fried at the end! 14 hours is rough! Thanks for taking one for the team!
I did 5 Qantas flights recently and I found it a solid airline. Clean and well maintained aircraft, decent food. Friendly crews. Good product. Flew a lot in my life 7 years Star alliance gold and 3 years Oneworld gold
I'm glad you like our country!
I live in Pretoria.
Enjoy the flight.
SAA is flying this route again from April 2024.
@@HlubiNgwane Awesome, will keep and eye & ear out for them! Much obliged.

Josh actually said "Sydney Bay, with the iconic Opera House and the Harbour Bridge". He was talking about Sydney Harbour, not Botany Bay.
Air NEW Zealand safety video is the best
Air New Zealand have always had the best safety videos on a consistent basis!
The A330-300 has amazing seats.
you are a nice guy Josh , not getting annoyed by these couple of girls sitting beside you especially when they were having there ice cream 😂and too saying they were lovely , really class from you man
We used to fly this route on the 747. Absolutely loved it and miss it
Thank you for saying kind words about South Africa, bless you 🇿🇦
I flew to Australia from LAX...it was awesome!!!
I feel like you missed some qualifiers with “only airline to never have crashed” 😂
never had a crash ... apart from the ones that did ... but let's not count those.
In 1960 one of their Lockheed Constellations had a takeoff incident in Mauritius and caught fire and was written off but no fatalities.
@PaulTipler-gr2cc The flight 32 A380 repair cost $139 million and took 18 months to preserve the no hull loss.
I want you to know that your videos inspired me and made start my studies to become a el al pilot and thank you so much❤
Interesting video.
The safety video always makes me emotional too Josh hahaha, especially returning after the pandemic
Don't know why he picked out Cathay but still to say increasing QATARS services won't affect airfares is a bit out there. QANTAS are already starting to discount the HNL route as Hawaiian are looking to increase capacity to Australia.
@@Paininthrneck yes but as an already high air fare airline it’s not going to do as much as everyone thinks. Admittedly it will decrease but by how much no one knows.
Josh, I am surprised you didn't go for the last seat ;)
I took your advice and chose the last seat of a 787 and there are only two seats in economy rather than 3.
Always a pleasure to welcome you to South Africa! Glad you like my country ❤
10:52 umm…anyone notice how his seat mate is handling that ice cream. Might need surfshark to watch this in the Middle East lol
I think Singapore Airlines has the best safety video, but Qantas is incredible as well
9:35 as a New Zealander, where we already have a huge rivalry with Aus in everything, this made me cry 😂
Compliments of the festive season and hope you are okay, Josh
The crew at Qantas are great. The biggest problem was the outsourcing of ground handling with delays on top of delays. Go on flight radar and look up the logs of QF3 and QF4 SYD HNL SYD. Just watch how much later and later the planes get. Usually due to baggage handling and maintenance issues. Also the fares are ridiculously high in Australia. $ 2000 dollar Syd Drw return and yes it was the back of the plane and also had a 4 hour stopover in ASP.
Qantas definitely don't skimp on the food that's for sure. Plenty of food throughout the flight. Glad to see a great Qantas flight.
Air New Zealand 2018 safety video is by far the best.
Thanks for this video Josh I loved seeing all my work mates from Sydney International in the background and onboard ❤❤
Window seat on an intercontinental flight, respect, respect. Josh really not letting window seat slowing him down
You have gone to the other extreme, from your arch nemesis Chui, slagging off every airline in your pursuit of perfection.😂
For me the British Airways safety video is the best.
I have done this flight on VH OJC B747 400 10 years ago, best flight I have ever been on.
The 787s I have flown of different airlines didn't have air vents which sucks (to me at least). It looks like that Qauntas 787 has air vets which is great.
What a nice change to see a review of Economy instead of business or first class! Like you say that is the majority of us. Also what travelling is like when you live downunder and always have long flights to contend with. Thanks for including us plebs for a change.
Great review, it’s really good to see an honest look at the part of the plane most of us fly in!
People really underestimate the cleanliness of airline toilets. Don’t ever put your food on any place in an aircraft toilet.
