So we've come to Graceland this morning and we're not actually going to do the house this morning. We're going to go into the exhibits across the road to see what's new but we've done the house five, six times in all now and obviously not much changes in the house itself.
But we're taking the opportunity of the free walk up between 7.30 and 8.30 every morning. You can walk up to the grave site free of charge and so we're taking advantage of that this morning and then we'll go across to the 'Welcome To Graceland' exhibit when that opens at 10, I think that opens.
'For security purposes Vernon Presley with special permission from the city had the grave sites of Elvis and his mother Gladys moved from Forest Hill Cemetery to Graceland in October of 1977. Since then the garden has become the final resting place for Elvis's father Vernon, paternal grandmother Minnie Mae and Grandson Ben. A small marker has also been placed in memory of Elvis's stillborn twin brother.
The large marble cross was Gladys Presley's original monument at Forest Hill and the headstone which features the Star of David to represent Gladys's Jewish Heritage was placed under grave in December 1964. The statue of Jesus without outstretched arms was a gift to Elvis from his friends one Christmas. The Meditation Garden was designed and built by Bernard Grenadier at Elvis's request in the mid-1960s. Iit features Italian statues, an elaborate fountain and special lighting. The brick wall behind the Grecian inspired columns is inlaid with primitive stained glass handmade in Spain in the mid-1800s. The garden offered Elvis a private, serene area for meditation, reflection and quiet contemplation. It was one of his favorite places.'
The Raquetball Court just there. It's been, within the last few years. it was repurposed as the Raquetball Court. For many years it was a display of gold discs, platinum and gold and silver discs from around the world there but they're over in the Welcome To Graceland exhibits now. And that's gone back to being the Raquetball Court as it was when Elvis played there the last night he was alive. Okay, we're going to hang around now and then go and park across the road. So it's something we haven't done - park across there - because we've always stayed at either the Heartbreak Hotel and then the Guesthouse at Graceland.
There's the Welcome to Graceland across the road, you can just see one of the signs of the Elvis 68 special.
So we'll be heading across there shortly 10 o'clock it's open today. I think we paid....
I think we paid 48 dollars just to do all the exhibits over there, the Welcome to Graceland exhibits and the planes. You can just see the Lisa Marie across the road there, so we'll go in there.
We've done it all before but it's nice to come back and do it again and see what's new over the other side. But it's well worth, especially if you're not going to tour the house or you've done it before and going to skip it on your next trip, it's just worth remembering you've do have an hour, 7.30 to 8.30 every morning, for a free walk up to the Meditation Garden.
Thanks for sharing, very nice video. Elvis forever!

Hi Gianna. Ogni volta che visitiamo, è ancora triste. grazie per la visione
@@OceanHops A voi grazie. Siete fantastici ❤️🥰🇮🇹🙅🎄
I still can't resolve the spelling on the grave stones. I can't see Elvis changing his middle name that his mother gave him. There may be another reason, but why change the spelling with his twin Jessie/Jesse's name as well. I guess that's for the family to know, but no one seems to think it's important. I do, as no one is a bigger star musically than Elvis. Especially when the death certificate is filled out in Elvis' handwriting and he spelled his middle name Aron and not Aaron. Had they said the family is not going to address that, it's personal, but to everyone else it just looks like a mistake..
Hi Kris. Yes, I don't get it with Jesse. But as far as Elvis goes, some sources state that, apparently, Elvis officially later changed his name to the biblical spelling Aaron as Vernon had 'spelt it incorrectly' on the birth certificate. Some say he was named for Vernon's close friend Aaron Kennedy while sone say it was Aron to rhyme with Jesse Garon which was supposedly a common practice to rhyme twins middle names 🤷♂️. Thanks for watching and commenting Kris.
Hi if you visit the meditation garden, at 8:30 then you must leave, you can wait outside until open the Mansion? How do you cross the street???
Hi Shirley. Yes the gates close at 8.30. There is a crossing outside and you can stroll over the other side. The Welcome to Graceland plaza, foyer and gift shop were open before the actual exhibit areas opened at 9 (although the Graceland website said 10 🙄). Thanks for watching 👍
Some advice park in the regular parking lot they tow cars in front of the wall after about 2 hours.
Does anyone know if you can just park and walk the grounds?
Hi. Only the half hour morning walk up to the grave, and you have to walk directly up the drive to the Meditation Garden. The only other way is to pay for the mansion tour but you're still restricted to where you walk in the grounds.
Are you allowed to enter Graceland whenever you want? Do you need to pay to get in?
Hi @smallie210. You can only walk up between 7.30 and 8.30 each morning for free, and directly to the Garden - no diversions. All other times is only by paying for the house tour. Thanks for watching 👍
Do you park in the normal parking lot for Graceland? Just wondering if it open yet.
Yes, $10.
@@OceanHopsThanks for the information. Just the walk up the drive would be a treat.
@@rolltide9547 You can park right outside Graceland wall in the pull-in (free) for the 7.30 to 8.30 walk up.
