  • Did Elvis ever visit the UK? Yes, Elvis landed at Prestwick Airport in 1960 on his way home from Germany to the US after his stint in the US Army. Did Elvis visit Britain? We visit the only UK location that Elvis appeared in Britain. Elvis's plane made a fuel stop here in March 1960 and Elvis got off to be greeted by fans at the airport fence. He had a brief interview in the Orangefield House which doubled as the Prestwick Airport Terminal building in 1960. He visited the NCO mess the other side of the airport in a building which is now the Adamton Country Hotel.
    Old terminal pictures/info from ukairfieldguide.net.
Take a look at our other travel content at: ‪@OceanHops‬
2nd March 1960 - around 11am Elvis leaves the house on Goesthestrasse 14 in Bad Nauheim for the last time. This had been his home for just over a year while serving in the US Army in Germany.
Around 5.30 that afternoon he waved goodbye to Priscilla Beaulieu at Frankfurt Airport. Elvis was returning home to the US for the first time since leaving for Germany on 22nd September 1958.
We've come here to Prestwick Airport this morning because here is the only place in the UK
that Elvis Presley has set foot on March 2nd 1960. 'Prestwick is the only place in the United Kingdom visited by the king of rock and roll. Sergeant Presley was greeted by screaming fans on 3rd March 1960 when his aircraft stopped to refuel.' It was the evening of the 2nd March 1960 that he actually landed here
This is just round the side of Prestwick Airport, and the road just to the left by there it's actually called Elvis Street. on the maps it is Elvis Street The old terminal was Orangefield House would have been the Orangefield House old Prestwick terminal. On the 2nd March 1960 Elvis landed here in a DC-7
Elvis left Frankfurt Airport around 5.30 that afternoon, waving goodbye to Priscilla Beaulieu,
and the flight landed here roughly around 7.30 in the evening.
So that's where Elvis came in 1960, And that's where the plane taxied and Elvis got out and went into the terminal and he was interviewed there for a while. After talking with reporters for a little while in the terminal building, Elvis went over to the NCO mess which was in what is now the Adamton Hotel
So this is the old Monkton Road so Elvis, when Elvis left the terminal building the car would have come out somewhere
the runway was extended, not long after Elvis landed here in 1960,This is now the Adamton Country House Hotel and this is where the NCO's mess was. and this is where Elvis came for a short stay.
Elvis was on the ground here about a hour and a half in total Elvis's plane landed at the Ernest Harmon Air Force Base in Stephenville, Newfoundland Elvis landed at Fort Dix at the McGuire Air Force Base around 7.40 in the morning of March 3rd. On March 5th Elvis received his honorable discharge from the army and left for Trenton, New Jersey en route to go back home to Memphis, Tennessee.
The Orangefield Hotel was superseded as the terminal building by the the new one that's round there now, although that's gone through refurbishment. It actually opened in 1964 - the new terminal. And the Orangefield House unfortunately was demolished in 1966.
So this was the only time Elvis set foot in the UK. There is a story of Tommy Steele apparently of Elvis coming over to London and going on a a taxi tour of London hosted by Tommy Steele.
I don't know....I think that's pretty unlikely. There's no record of it. Bill Kenwright, the theater impresario, told the story and said that Tommy Steele was sworn to secrecy. But I'm sure somebody in the Elvis circle at the time.......he was in Germany with
Red West and Lamar Fike, Rex Mansfield...I'm sure somebody would have known and would have said about Elvis's little trip into London. Red West, in the 'Elvis: What Happened?' book, the drug intake and everything was fully exposed in that book so I'm sure a secret trip to London in 1958 would have come out at some point or another. So did Elvis actually come to London in 1958 or was Tommy Steele telling
    a 'Little White Bull'.

Elvis was known in France when he came, he signed autographs on the Champs Elysees. And was recognized on the road in a service station in Nancy (350 km from Paris) his trip by taxi. He would have recognized without problem in London.. 😁🙏

Modernisation took over ... sad 😢
TBH ... Ibelieve Tommy's story as didn't Tommy join the Merchant Navy and had ended up in New York possibly around the time that Elvis was there in his early career. Seeing as Tommy was into music too, he may have had an opportunity to meet him, before the hordes took over, so to speak.

Hi June. Yes, sad these old buldings have gone. With regards Tommy, he supposedly took him around London in a taxi while Elvis was serving in Germany. Elvis had more 'privileges' than other soldiers but even if he did manage to swing it with a trip to the UK, I believe there's no way that it could have been kept a secret all these years. Red West and Lamar Fike were with him in Germany, and over the years they've told of 'secrets' like the drugs etc , so I'm sure they would have mentioned a sneaky trip to London over the years if it actually happened. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍

Tommy Steele's story of his secret meeting with Elvis & taking him on a secret trip to London is a load of bunkum. He was at Prestwick for about 90mins about 7.30pm while the plane refuelled.T.S.said he flew into London by jet & he showed Elvis around.Bunkum.All in 90mins.Rubbish.How did Elvis get through UK customs, being the world's biggest superstar without being recognized. Its a fact army records show he had a weekend in Paris.& That was it.Also Joe Esposito or Charlie Hodge when asked about this on British TV during an Elvis impersonator contest a few yrs back indirectly called T.S a liar.He actually said SORRY TOMMY it never happened. Some of u may remember this when shown on ITV.Both Joe & Charlie went all through the army with ELV & ELV would not have gone anywhere without his buddies by his side.

Thanks for watching Alan. Of course it's extremely difficult to believe EP visited London and the only person in the world who knew about it was Tommy. EP never thought to mention it to Cilla or any of his group etc to retell the tale?🤔🤔 Don't think so 🙄

@@OceanHops Thanks for the response. But also don't forget the facts speak for themselves. It would have been impossible in the time he was here.If Joe & Charlie said on film he didn't, he didn't.This story 1st emerged on ITV News with Julie Etchingham a while back(I watched it) & at the time I think Tommy S had a new show in the westend opening .Possible publicity for himself. If T.S.was questioned in depth his story wouldn't hold up, especially if he was shown the TV clip watched by millions All the best.
