I have a rule of 3 with the parents I work with as a nanny. If sleep, eat, and/or play is affected give medication. If not, let the fever do what its supposed to!
I’m so glad to see a doctor saying this! We always go for the “treat the kid not the fever” we let ours fever unless they start showing to much discomfort. I think it’s so wonderful to see a doctor stating the message to let your body do most of the work! Wish I was near you and could bring my kids to you. I really try to avoid doctors at all costs because they always try to find something if nothings wrong and when something is wrong they dismiss you. So quick to give antibiotics and medicate. Our bodies are such amazing vessels and are meant to self aide when sick. If you let it! I’m not against medical treatment when it’s needed, but I always try to listen to my kids, their body, and my own to guide us. I just love your channel and all that you stand for, wish there was more like you! You can tell it’s not about the money or mainstream medicine for you, it’s about the patient and what’s best for them, and that is something that is truly priceless ❤️
My daughter when she was 2 was completely fine when I went shopping and left her with her dad, over an hour later I came home and instantly asked if she was okay because her feet were purple hanging out of her tent.. her dad knew she had fallen asleep and said she was fine. She was super hot so I called 999(UK) I'm so glad I followed my instincts because she had sepsis and they don't know how, it came from nowhere so fast!! I had her younger brother at the time too and have dealt with many temperatures at home since (mum of 3), but when I feel something is off and needs seeing too I'm always right! My best remedies are a warm/cool bath and ibuprofen first, it works better on my kids!
I’m low intervention and rarely treat a fever with medication. I love the info on how to check through the body for signs and symptoms I might be missing that might call for a Dr visit. Thank you.
I'm high functioning autistic and I'm epileptic my doctor says if I get a fever I over 101.5 I should go to the emergency room but yet if my husband gets a temperature over 101.5 they tell him Tylenol and cold compress

My household just finished recovering from Covid for the second time... our toddlers got it but we were all just fine although they had fevers. 3 month old had a 103.8 fever that lasted all day on Friday, but I knew it was no need to panic. I did reach for the tylenol once, just to allow our 3m old to sleep comfortably. Her fever broke naturally the following day. She's doing just fine now. I always remember that the rule of thumb is to let the fever run its course and destroy the virus! Just try your best to keep the young ones comfortable in the meantime 😊
How else did you help your littlest through? I didn't go through a fever with my little during the first six months, so I'm not sure..but I am a BIG believer in the same (let it run its course and kill the virus).
I just get nervous about the high ones (fevers over 103). I only use ibuprofen now because it seems to help her best.
Any other advice for a fellow Mama? 💟
My little one is two now. But I hate using any kinds of medication because of side effects they may have, and of course the constipation that follows those OTC pain/fever reducers.

Mine are 4yrs💙, 2yrs💗, & 3m💗....for my two toddlers I gave them popsicles, lots of water, a nice bath seemed to help, kept them lightly dressed...I cuddled with them often for comfort, let them enjoy a full day of movies etc...they were ok. It can get rough if the fever keeps them up at night but luckily they slept ok. My 3m old I felt real bad because all she could do was fuss but I just cuddling and kept breastfeeding (since I was sick too and breastmilk has antibodies).. gave tylenol so she (and I 😏) could comfortably sleep and she was down to 101.4 by the morning. This was all like 3 days ago. We're all fine now. Hopefully I helped you in any way! We just do the best you can, your mama instincts will guide you. I did call the ped for my 3m old fever to be sure i was doing all the right things (never had to deal with a fever in a young infant b4) Call the doc if your concerned..yup besides that...I still have a stuffy nose and a little virtigo because of fluid in the middle ear. But we're all good. 👍🏼 Best wishes! 💗
Oh btw...my dad kept telling me to give them diluted alcohol sponge baths to cool their fever 😆 but I kinda didnt want to...I hear its an old timey remedy but maybe you could try that too if you want although the effects are temporary I believe.

I didn't know that about getting a wet wash cloth and patting them down to get the fever down. My 3 year old had pneumonia and now gets fevers quite often. Thank you for that tip! I learn many things from all of your videos Dr. Paul

When my daughter was 8, she was running a fever above 100. & I couldn't bring it down. Called the hotline & they could only tell me pretty much what I already knew. Took her to ER in the middle of the night. The nurse checked her all over her body! I thought. The nurse called it into the Dr. He said to give her children's Tylenol every 3 hours. I started to give her the 1st dose, but felt that something was wrong about it. So I went back to doing what I was doing before. Took her to our Chiropractor a day later (he also does natural remedies). Told him this story. When he heard I didn't give her the med, he said it was a good thing I didn't. He said I could have killed her. The nurse had missed 1 very important place to check - down the inside of her throat! It was so closed up & looked like raw hamburger... well, it was gross!!! Then he had me get an iodine mix & had me have my daughter gargle it ever so often. It took approximately 3 days for her throat to get well & looking pretty again. Sometimes it's best to go with Motherly instinct.
What did she have?
It's crazy that the OTC med that kills more people is Tylenol.

Dr. Paul, my intuition completely allows me to trust you. So many pediatricians a fairly young and text book smart.. so many older pediatricians have retired and honestly some of those I don’t trust either. I hope the medical industry changes soon. I appreciate the break down! My son is 3 I was sick for 4 days its just me so very hard to keep him away i tried to prevent it but he also got sick. He has not had a cold in the last 2 yrs he was so hot I almost freaked out almost! I remaind calm put him in a luke warm bath first attempt of Tylenol. He went back to sleep woke up eating drinking and playing briefly. Fever is back . 😩 I got this

One thing that my regular doctor says about with getting fevers is what nationwide children’s says is do not rotate fever reducing medications.
That's interesting. Most drs tell you to. It's like their go to.
I wonder why they say this too much on their body?
We had covid and my son kept hitting over 104° fevers every night. It freaked me out hardcore because my daughter and I run low fevers. We MIGHT hit 102 on a bad illness. But the kid was running all over the house and acting crazy with it so I’d leave him to it.
Your work n advice are REALLY amazing and highly appreciated. I'm a mother of 3 kids and I recently had my 3rd baby whi is 2 n half month, his down with a fever. Kept on monitoring his temp n sponge him. The amazing thing about it is that his lactating excellently. Only cries when his hungry. It's after 10 years n I had a baby. Thank you for all you share and have done for helping parents like myself have so much more confidence in caring for our kids.
I just want to share, I used paracetamol for my daughter here in India 1x only- because when she has very few times had a fever over 103, or prolonged fever with spikes of 103-104, and sick for a few days, I now use homeopathic meds to lower her fever only and it works every single time! Like huge difference- 100/ back to normal. And within that time also peeking up playing and so on.
I mention it because I wasn’t a huge fan of homeopathy despite having a few friends utilize it to great effect, until that happened. Now I never use allopathy as the first “ okay we are getting a little too tricky here, let’s go above home remedies” line.
And I think more parents should be aware of it. The “dosage” is just so minimal. “ a drop in the ocean” they say.
My poor daughter had a 40.3 celsius fever and the forehead/ear thermonether would Pick up very unstable temps. She was barely two. Called our ped and Went in immediatly, he confirmed super high temp and gave me fever lowering meds. Strong stuff. They did nothing!!. My homeopath told me to try one globule of a remedy, and She immediatly Went back to normal temperature and could take the first nap in two days. Ooof I hate When my kids are sick. It's Kinda scary. Just a cold or life threatening? Not a roulette I like.

My 2yo son had a viral fever for 1 day and by the evening I spent the day keeping him cool with rags and bath. It did come down but then within an hr would spike up. It was bed time so I stayed with him in his room and monitored him. He had a fever of 102.2 and I just kept a rag on his head. He fell asleep with no clothes no covers and 1hr later I woke up to him having a seizure. It was his only febrile seizure ( I knew to keep him on his side and call 911 and wait for the seizure to stop- called 911 for paramedics to come in case the seizure lasted longer than 5 min. They have meds they can use to stop them)
It only lasted 1min. And he was dazed up to 10min. But he was ok. Dr said it can happen. And if it does it usually means it can happen again up to 5yo. And usually not after that.
And not to worry. It happens if a temp spikes. I think what happened is I have my son motrin at 10pm when he had a temp of 103 and it came down very well. But then it climbed back up fast and that's when I think the seizure happened. I wonder what would have happened if I just kept his temp down with bath and cool rags. Maybe the spike would not have happened. His temp was 103 when he had the seizure and I checked. It was not very high. Fevers are no fun. But thankful they are here to kill off the bad viruses!

My 2 year old had a fever 2 nights ago that suddenly came on after his cousin left. 100-103 through the whole night. Meds 2x and damp cloths and he was perfectly fine in the morning!
I'm actually dealing with those right now! Mu daughter is 1yr and she ended up getting covid, she broke the fever and developed a rash from diarrhea and it spread to her belly and back. Currently watching her until I can take her in tomorrow morning! Never heard of this before..
What else symptoms do they have? It might be a covid correlated PIMS better get it checked as soon as possible.
My daughter, who was 20 months old at the time, ended up having a 105.6 fever back in February. She was fine playing and everything and all of a sudden she wanted to sleep. Went to check on her a few minutes later and she was burning up and extremely lethargic. She ended up in the hospital for a week because they were worried about Kawasaki’s Disease. 💔 But when they said that, I remembered watching Dr Paul’s videos and I knew what was going to happen if that was the culprit. ❤️

Tiny slip. Around 1:20 mentioned "6-8 months". He meant 6-8 weeks.
I’m pretty low intervention, don’t even keep meds in my house. However we caught covid two weeks ago, and my kids temp was 104-105. The were lethargic and hard to wake. We did the sponge baths, light clothing, popsicles, frozen strawberries, cool rags on forehead/neck/behind knees and nothing would bring it down. Finally sent a friend out at 10pm to try to find us Tylenol/Motrin. It lasted 4 days and finally broke.

What about febrile seizure at 39 degrees? My 20 month old just had one. Now we have to be so careful.

One thing I always wonder about is if there is a “too long” to have a fever, if they are otherwise without any symptoms and smiling
My 2yo (at the time) was running mild fever,so I decided not to give him any meds,just let his body fight it... within few hours,temperature spiked from 101 to 103 causing febrile seizure! We took him to the ER, no damage was done,but now I'm traumatized by what happened and always on stand by if he's evan a bit hotter than usual. He's 4yo now, no issues since then.
Very similar story i had. I too am overly cautious with fevers since then. I hear after 5yo the risk of Febrile seizure goes down. Idk
Yes, my 3 year old had one of those a few months ago and now I am traumatized … refuse to let him get sick (which is impossible) because I’m afraid of it happening !
@@christinaoney1993 I know it's scary especially right after. Honestly now that he is 3 it is something that can happen to 5yo from what I'm told. My son is 4 and if he does get a fever I treat it. I don't let it get up past 102. And I am with him in his room or my husband when he sleeps those nights. It helps.

What about fever in adults. I have had a fever for 3 days along with swollen lymph nodes in my neck and the fever won't break. Probably should just go to the er but it is a long wait. Urg :( ♡

Thank you for this video doc. Coz right now my 8 year old girl and 3months boy are both having a fever. But its not constant high fever. It will pass after taking paracetamol but after few hours the fever will rise again but thats from 37°c to 39.8°c only. Should i be worry and rush to the doctor for that?
But if the fever is gone, they are both happy kiddos, can smile and play with me. But my 8 year old eat a little saying her throat hurts.
Wonderful informative video . Could you please consider a video pertaining to children with severe autism . My daughter age 6 is mainly non verbal . It’s a major challenge to be able to know what to look for within health signals and pain levels that may be covertly occurring ,when she isn’t able to communicate either verbally . Medications are also difficult to manage as side effects aren’t something I can monitor unless overtly coming through with behavior . It’s a process being able to get her self aware enough and bridge that to communication of how she’s feeling and then relay that in a meaningful way . Any tips on this matter would be so helpful dr Paul. Thank you for your time .

My little one is in ABA therapy. Have you tried to look for that also in your area? We are dealing with verbal communication as well. They told me that this therapy immensely helps with the other therapies our children may need. It helps them grasp the therapy more, was my understanding. But we're still looking and wait lists are long! You know too..ugh. I wish you all the love and support in the world/universe! God Bless you, Mama. You're so special. That's why we were blessed with our little beauties. We're the ones that could love them the best! Remember that..and take care of you too. @@TheMightyBlackPearl my son will be entering an aba program soon! I have heard conflicting things about aba in general but this seems like a safe program that is respectful, individualized, and supportive for our family so we are going to try it! Five days a week kind of like a preschool 😳
My son (2.5) is allergic to Motrin (anaphylaxis), so I have no choice but to give Tylenol, unfortunately... 🙁
What about febrile seizures? Can you explain a bit more about that? I know it’s not serious but it’s scary to see and makes me anxious any time little one may have a fever

I welcome fever with my kiddo. He rarely fevers but gets sick all the time. He is autistic and when he does fever he becomes typical. This is common with many kiddos on the spectrum. Why?
To lower fever on toddler, MIL says i need to use rubbing alcohol on forehead, feet, etc. Do you recomend that?
That is an older recommendation and no longer used by most pediatricians

Great question! I would like to know this as well as many mainstream pages on Google state that kids don't get meningitis If vaxxed. And kids that aren't are more prone to it🙄
One of your earlier videos says infant Tylenol or Acetaminophen is not good for babies as it suppresses glutathione..the body’s natural antioxidant that gets rid of toxins and free radicals in the body. Please advice.
My son had tonsils at 10 days old . I could smell his breath so bad. He didn't want nothing going closer to his mouth. I went to the ER at night and told the doctor I suspect tonsils. He told me there's no way a 10 day old baby can have tonsils. I asked for an old pediatrician, he's just over 60. He found his swollen and infected tonsils within a minute. 😢 I was so heartbroken and had to stay 6 days while they treated him in the hospital. I agree adult ER cannot deal with babies.
Dang. I had Meningitis at 3. And I had to get the spinal tap. 🥺
