This should go down in rock history as one of the most brutally perfect shows ever. Melvins continue to hone the diamond year in and year out and get better all the time. Tight, powerful, heavy, deep....what word DOESN'T describe this band? What metal act could possibly compare? Melvins rule.
LOL! I heard the name through the years maybe a few times and only just begun to listen to their songs just to try them out but when it comes to having meaning? Better damn well understand what it all stands for. Metal has no home except in metal-land. There are jockey's out there trying to mix it all in with classic rocks like Boomer Rock, including the circles of psychedelic American and British Invasion, classic folk, avant-garde, art classics, etc. etc. etc. There simply is no comparison and metal will always be drowned out. The truth is metal doesn't really fit in with among anything else as it tries to coattail it's way onto the true sustainable classics. It has no true message in the progressive realms and so it needs to stay within its own genre, along with its damn disco sucks motto. And it's hard to place this band into the grunge world when it has metal all over it. It's why the Melvins aren't a name that crosses the worldly paths, or if it does then it's only to a custom made crowd.
Thats what I love the most about this band, no reverence to any message, collaberation/line-up config., stupid label processes, nor can they be defined as any particular genre past rock/experimental. Only they and their ilk can figure it out, much less attempt. I'm happy to count myself amongst the 'custom' fanbase. And for those who are new to this, the only things this band is to be counted on are drums, sweet auditory chaos, and polished covers. A beautifully ugly child of punk and noise.
