Anyone confused as what size of caddy to get, Get the 12 ~ 12.7 cm one both fit fine, I upgraded my dad's laptop with a 500gb ssd in main slot and the existing hdd in the dvd space with caddy, It's 100 times easier than what I had to do for my Dell laptop Also thanks Smooth IT operator for the detailed guidie to get started
Thank you for watching. Seems to me you want to get most out of your laptop. One client asked me to do this on an older Lenovo and I read on forums his model had problems recognizing the caddy and the hard drive in it. Didn't want to risk it and spend to much time on it. Get a caddy with a nice side cover or else you will have to take it from the DVD drive. Search did someone even manage to get it working with two disks.
@@smooth.IT.operator no worries, I went ahead and got a 9.5mm caddy for my dads laptop, the same as what I used for my own laptop but it seems it uses a bigger one, I guess 12mm caddy will fit nicely I mean its not that hard getting it recognized, its just a bit slow with sata 2 but HDDs are slow either way, Oh I just reuse the cover from the DVD drive coz it fits perfectly
@@MetaDude I see you know your caddy dimensions also, cool. Why don't you put a 2.5 inch SSD 256GB if HDD slow? I am glad you could use the part from your optical drive to fill the gap.
I'm curious what speed the sticks of ram u added were? mine was included with 2 sticks of 2gb each running at 1333mhz which is quite low, I'm wondering what's the max speed it would accept. bought this model of laptop for dirty cheap on facebook marketplace, only 30 bucks
Thank you for watching. You think you would notice any significant difference / performance gain even if you installed 1600MHz sticks (Amazon link)? If you manage to pull it off please share your results here. Successful upgrading! amzn.to/3OqhRz5
Thank you for watching. m.2 port? I don't think so. It has an extra RAM module that is left unpopulated in this video. Client couldn't wait for it to arrive and wanted the laptop asap.
is it really worth it to upgrade it ? i have one and im not using it recently because its too slow but i always wanted to upgrade but wasnt sure if it worth it or no !! i want to add 8gb of ram and 512gb ssd
Thank you for watching. Sure it is worth it. Pulling out the mechanical drive and installing a SATA SSD is an incredible performance jump. And RAM for this laptop is cheap. You will also gain quite an experience.
i just finished setting it up and i cant imagine how fast the laptop become, i can use photoshop and autocad in same time with no lag, just AMAZING !! thank you boss @@smooth.IT.operator
@@gaga85k Thank you for watching. Not possible to easily upgrade/install the graphics card on this laptop. You can put more RAM, max 16GB and SSD drive to make it faster to work on.
So easy just gave me confidence to upgrade my 10yr old satellite c855
Thank you for watching. Can you share what you did exactly?
@smooth.IT.operator I upgraded it from HDD to SSD because it was running too slow. I increased RAM too from 4 to 8gb.

Job well done with the caddy! Thank you very much for valuable feedback.

@@smooth.IT.operator oh i did, I slotted in a 500gb ssd in main one (sata 3) its just that the caddy of 9.5mm doesnt fit and 12.7mm is too big :(
