Be careful what you wish for because Mom might have had a good reason to kick Dad to the curb. My dad was usually drunk at the bar, but when he came home he had fun abusing all of us in the family. My sister was burned with cigarettes, mom had her fingers broken, my teeth got chipped after being thrown to the ground, etc., etc. My dad's idea of affection was constantly bullying me after work and I was the one he liked the most. (I definitely don't think Pat Mac is that type of guy because he is so unique and special.) My point is that sometimes it is better when the dad is NOT around. Now I am left hating all male authority figures, thinking family values is sick and twisted.

@@Nowhere888 you need to get over it, honestly. Drive forward. Hating every male authority because of one stupid man in your life is equivalent to thinking every gun on the market is an unreliable pile of junk, because the first one you had experience with was a Lorcin.

A part 2 would be nice. Part two can be practical every day uses for the knots you presented. For instance, tying down furniture you’re moving in your truck, using it as a hitch to pull a small vehicle with your truck, or some outdoor survival thing where you would have to lift some wood out-of-the-way with only your bare hands and rope. That was a great video sir. Thank you.

We were taught a good many knots in the UK fire brigade training school. Then when I went to my first watch I met an old guy who was a knot pest. He taught me what he called the self-rescue knot, which I think you are talking about. You lower yourself down one end of the line then pull the other one to retrieve the line. Never used it in the brigade but very handy when sailing alone.

Very cool! Lobstering in Maine we use a few of these. The bowline, square knot, and one really similar to the double sheep end(if I heard that correct) we just call a buoy knot. You can also place a stick in the middle of your bowline if you’re using it with a ton of tension on it, like pulling out a vehicle or barge. Although the bowline is good for easy untying, the stick makes it peel apart like butter.

If you use a square knot in a load bearing role, you should secure the ends to the main line either with some tape, a whipping, or two half hitches. As long as the knot doesn´t touch anything or is under static load it´s fine, but as soon as it gets moved around, is under changing load or maybe rubs on something, it can open when not secured. This is the reason why e.g. climbers prefer a double fisherman´s bend for their strops nowadays. - The double sheet bend is fine for two rather similar diameter lines or a soft larger line. Again, not as much of a problem under continuous tension, but as you show it opens on its own if you let up for some reason. If the line is as stiff as the one you´re using, it might be better to just tie a nail knot around one end of the rope, or to use an Albright knot or lay back/ tucked back sheet bend that hold the loop closed stronger.
For a middle of the line fixing point an alpine butterfly knot should be better than a cat´s paw, as it can take a load between both standing parts as well as between the loop and either standing part. A cats paw can also side load a carabiner if it isn´t dressed neatly (meaning two full turns, or more in thinner line and all completely below the hook), and its turns create stress points in line that doesn´t do well with small radii like some braided aramide.
