  • Finally received my Mad Spotter Hooks...Immediate reaction, these things are a game changer!!! If you suffer from or deal with shoulder injuries, these handles will improve your chest and shoulder workouts by eliminating the requirement to flip the dumbbells off your knees and into the press position.

Love these things. I pulled my bicep kicking a heavy dumbell into position for pressing - very easy to do since you don’t typically warmup biceps when bench pressing.

Agreed, a lot of people wouldn’t see that potentially even happening. Unfortunately, as we get older, we’re a little more susceptible. I’m currently suffering from a shoulder injury from benching which again my shoulders weren’t warmed up enough apparently.

Haven't used mine yet but a major issue I see down the road is that if those steps Frey or break then your can't use the hooks at all as there's nothing to keep the hooks in your hand when you lift the dumbbells which means you have to keep buy new straps,
The older design seemed more logical and less of a cheap short cut

@@bendodd2405 I understand what you’re saying, but this is a very rugged material that they’ve added, and has some very durable stitching holding it together. I would have to double check, but I think if that happens also there may be some sort of replacement policy in place?

That strap at the handle is a very new change to the design and seems like a step back to their original version and the other cheaper looking versions available online. They very recently had a metal knurl cradle for the handle for about a year but (as I went to order this morning) it's no longer available and your reviewed version is the only available option. Not sure why this was changed, to cut costs, maybe the diameter of the metal cradle created incompatibility issues with some dumbbells but regardless, I'd prefer the metal knurled version (but unfortunately not available).

Thanks for the response...I actually did see the version you're explaining above. Didn't it also come with a neoprene wrap as well? I would have preferred that version...all my dumbbells are old school iron hex, compatibility wouldn't have been an issue!

@@theveterantrainer I've got the strap version - V2 and i think it's the better design - the nylon strap conforms to your palm and allows a tight hold to the dumbells handle. THe metal version would have to bear the weight of the dumbell handle and might fail later at the welds but the nylon strap is flexible and will be more durable.
The Mad spotter has been a game changer to the way i work with dumbells.
