Some people have commented on the attack and how the transients get affected too much: That would be the case if you were using the compressor in series. But here we’re using it in parallel, so it only adds to the original sound, while the original sound (with the original transients) stays intact.
Thank you!
Your comparison is also not loudness balanced...
The biggest issue/difficulty here is maintaining volume balance.
Rest in peace lowend
Basic Sidechain better in my opinion!
Just regular compression and a dynamic EQ would do the same thing without absolutely destroying the sub bass.
I’ve always wanted to see this short video format for music production. People don’t want a 15 minute ‘what is compression?’ tutorial just to learn a quick trick. Thank you and keep it up 👍🏼
You just didnt learn anything. You gonna try to copy this and fuck your mix. Good luck
So true!
in my humble opinion I think watching a 15 minute video on what is compression and truly understanding whats going on will be a much better investment of your time as a producer than just copying someone's template thinking its adding to your record without knowing whats actually happenning, when in fact it could be making it worse if its not what your sounds are asking for, or not knowing how much to dial each knob because you dont know what they do in the first place.. just my 2 cents
@@jkobee Yes, I agreed! No offense, there are some people who are more advanced, already know what’s going on, don’t need their hand held, and just want a quick new tip to try out. It seems you’re watching the wrong video.
@@jkobeeI hear that and that’s fine for the first video you watch. But do you really want to sit through endless tutorials on compression just to get get a quick tip? That’s the point I was trying to make, that these videos really are straight to the point.
Massive unit
🧐
meh this isnt glue.. this is increasing the sustain of the subs for both kick n bass making the sub level objectively higher and occurring for longer... it actually makes it muddier.. what you need to do to glue is actually reduce the sub on the bass a little over time.. such as a slight tremolo on only the sub frequencies on the bassline.. then duck the bass so the kick comes through and you get a clean sub that isnt as sausage.. then you can boost volume and you have loud.. tight distinctly clean kick/bass that works together
Gonna get a lot of peaks from this that will affect your headroom. Put a limiter after the compressor to make sure this doesn’t happen
Definitely listening to a massive unit here
You wanna glue kick and bass together ? Think about the phase. Just the phase.
yes, thinking .. and then ?
HOW?
Thinking about the phase… 🤤🍆💦
Sounds awesome. Wish I understood better.
thanks for good tutorial
You're going to become a massive unit 😂
You can glue the kick and bass together by sample/preset sound selection. Simple only
For seasoned ears
I have a massive unit
I want my unit to be even more massive!
Just put kick n bass in a bus and use dry/wet knob
what?
Is the send prefader or postfader, is the dry signal muted ?
Luna and Studio One, do they have a glue compressor ??
so it's work as sidechain
No. This is parallel compression.
Godd😊
Why not just use sidechain?
It's not exactly the same thing. This is lowering the dynamic range of the kick and bass in parallel with the original transients. Sidechaining just ducks the volume of one of the signals using the other signals. You may still want to glue the kick and bass together even after sidechaining.
Only for quick produce
Not for mixing
This is for sound design and presence. You'd still need to do a bunch of EQing and placement.
Your FACE is a massive unit
Your mom is a massive unit!%@!%
Don't do this. When your bass hits on the kick, or when the bassline gets louder through inter-note dynamics this will trigger the compressor and duck the kick level.
We are doing this in parallel!
It's fine. The original signals aren't being compressed.
What’s the difference between using this send and grouping the tracks with the effect on the group track?
Above is a parallel compression. You can do whatever you want but on bus/group keep things simple.
Is this just parallel compression?
Looks like this
Yeah that's what it is
I didn't get a thing
You’re essentially blending in a compressed version of both sounds at once so that they sound more complete together, hence the term ‘gluing’. That’s the basic idea anyway.
what app do you use??///??????
Ableton live !
lmao are we calling daws apps now 😂😂
Are the ableton's sends channel delay compensated?
Yes. But this kind of tutorials complicates a lot for beginners. This technique can cause lots of problems for unexperienced producers
I find It really simple and clear if you know what you're doing
Or just sidechain it
A fast attack won't do it for glue compression, you will effect the transients too much. It needs to be a slow attack and fast release.
No because he did that in parrallel
@@Noxal99 How does that change anything? not doubting ur take just tryna understand
@@blamethesillynotthegoose8120 .... You can easily find tons of videos and explanation on parallel processing. It's really easy to learn. But basically, your compression is not directly on the track, it's on an auxiliary or send track, so it doesn't affect the transients of the original signal. So you have 1 track with no compression, and 1 track with a lot of compression. And you blend them together. That's what parallel compression is. That's why the original comment, even tho is true, doesn't apply in this situation, cause the compression isn't even affecting the original track. Also, parallel compression is almost always a fast attack and a very compressed signal. It offers more control and is almost always used on drums.
@blamethesillynotthegoose8120 I would also add that adding a little saturation on the compressed signal can be really good too. I sometimes apply a low pass filter too to get a chunky drum sound; works especially well for acoustic drums. You don't need to worry about squashing the transients with the compressed parallel signal. It's the huge benefit of parallel compression.
It's used a lot on vocals too. It's common to high pass vocals and distort and compress the high passed copy. Then blend just a little into the mix with the original vocal to give vocals a bright expensive feel.
My bass doesnt mix with the the kick, better this way
Wait but what about phase when you return both kick and bass?
You do only compression, it's not affect the phase
@@sorenandrews1078 of course mono, but being mono/ stereo is not the only way phase got alternated.
@@sorenandrews1078 you are hearing youself right now? Phase is time, the is no time in mono?
Phase cancellation can also happen when kick and bass are not aligned.
Phase shift can happen when you use zero latency eq
Im asking op because i dont know if glue compressor introduces phase shifting.
@@sorenandrews1078 yes, im new, only 3 years in mixing in studio and live.
And checking in mono for phase is only one of reason, the other reason is check for masking.
Phase cancellation can happen in mono like if you misaligned your kick and bass and many more cases.
But thanks for the compressor answer tho.
@@sorenandrews1078 ok, if phase DOESNT happen in mono, how the f can you check phase in mono?
Okay! Now do all this again, but on FL Studio!!!….😉
Route your kick and bass to a bus track, add the compressor of your choosing on said bus track, turn volume fader down on the bus track, follow settings of compressor in video, and dial in the volume of your bus with your dry signal kick and bass to your liking
@@PolarBMDhey bro I don't understand the Return people talk about ..is it the same as Send? Coz on FL Studio. We can only Route Out - so that means it's a Send right? And the Return is the same thing, just a different name?
Name program pls?
Ableton
Why does it sound like shit then?
hell naw
i think you didn't need any thing there, the kick was WAY off the bass place in time
No.
Yeah this is terrible advice don’t do this.
Y know what, I would love to see your short describing this, even tho I can’t even understand this I’m still giving it a subscribe..
This reminds me of the situation of commenting on the quality of the band sound on stage - well why don’t you try it - and I’m sitting there thinking (cause I’m pussy :))
@@robob3ar quite simply I’d advocate for learning what your plug ins do.
Don’t just slap a GC on your low end bc RUclips said so.
If you don’t know WHY you’re doing something, you’re likely not ready to be doing it.
In Parallel??? you've just ruined it!!
Side chain. 🥸
Definitely listening to a massive unit here
