Such a beautiful yellow, it's amazing how colors interact with each other. Awesome, my imperial fists are gonna be looking absolutely dapper after this.
Yeah, it's a great result especially considering the little time it took and how easy it is
Your painting style is nuts ! So many painters here and there; but sometimes you need to be lucky to find the style you like the most. And for that and all the other tutos a BIG thank you
Happy to help
This video chose my space marine chapter for me. Ive been intimidated by the yellow for imperial fists, but you make something so beautiful look so effortless!
Thanks
it's a really great technique that takes all the difficulty out of yellow I use it all the time. Oh and so fast.
Beautiful yellow color and exceptional breakdown. When i saw that yellow go kver the purple i was just blown away. Gorgeous 🎉
Thanks mate 😘
Thanks Mr H - Love these zero effort/no skill power armour tutorials. Keep them coming. Picked up the brush set too - timing perfect - was looking for a good set of dry brushes.
Happy to help!
I have this set of dry brushes and can also confirm they are good brushes and worth the money.
It's good to have outside confirmation, thanks
We should start calling "moistured dry-brush" *Byron Brushing* ... Because let's face it, Artis Opus' technic changed our game!
Oh for sure
Great recipe. Artify brushes are interesting. Artis Opus are great but pretty expensive
@@tombrand236 Sure... well, I use cheap makeup brushes that are less than a dollar a piece, a random foam and a slab of stone... "And I grind my own pigments out of dirt and blood!" ... Maybe not that last part. Still a game-changer.
Brilliant as always. Love this series.
Me too! It's becoming one of my favourite series to make.
Simple and beautiful
Unbelievable colour combination you could knock me down with a feather when that yellow looked perfect compared to the bright yellow you see everywhere. I like the brushes but that figures position was so cool !
Thanks
I dont think your camera work gets enough credit, it's so much better than 95% of other creators
Thanks! I really appreciate it
Gonna try this with every section of the color wheel and see how it goes 👌🏻 I think this would work great for any color
I actually agree
What a vivid yellow you achived there. You make it look so easy. Bravo!
That's the idea! IT IS EASY
I have always had trouble getting the yellow I'm looking for. I can't wait to try this out. Thank you!
Thanks Juan ❤
Happy to help
I think the depth this yellow scheme gives would work great for Howling Griffons too, though that just leaves a red recipe that will work over the same base colors to figure out :)
For sure
6:23 the way the paint flows, Incredible.
Thanks
This looks fantastic! I’m going to have to try this for a Lamenters project I’ve got planned.
Awesome!!
Thanks for reminding me that I need a second set of Artify dry brushes for my metallic paints. I keep forgetting to order them.
Happy to help
Juan, as ever you are a living legend!
YES I AM
Looks amazing! Thanks for doing yellow and black so far…two colours that I’ve definitely been avoiding in my armies. Could you do a similar tutorial for blood angels using Vallejo Xpress?
The plan is to make a video about every main chapter and to reduce them all to just three steps.
So yes, at some point I will
@@JuanHidalgoMiniaturesSalamanders next maybe….
Thousand sons soon, perhaps. With all that time-consuming trim, we need valuable shortcuts.
I just ordered a set of these brushes using your link. Thanks for showcasing these!!
Happy to help!
Stunning result and the brushes look great 👍🏼
Thanks
Yellow has been a colour I have a love/hate relationship with since I started painting. It looks incredible and I love the Imperial Fists almost as much as I love my Dark Angels, but painting it has always been the bane of my existence. Imperial Fists Contrast works wonders, but it only provides very minimal shading in the recesses. It doesn't really behave like a tradition Contrast. This method is looking really good and looks like it could be banged out very quickly and easily. I've been meaning to try that yellow over pink idea for a while now. No idea how it works, but I can't argue with the results.
I love those soft, round style drybrushes. I got the Army Painter's set a few years ago and they work really well when I bust them out on occasion.
Give it a try mate, you are going to love it
“HELLO BOYS, IM BAAACK”
-Me going back to my 2 years old primed Imperial Fists.
FUCK YEAH
I love blue
HERESY
I didn't think you could beat easiest black but my goodness awesome.
Thanks
I am definitely going to try this! Looks SO good! Thank you!!!
Happy to help
Wow that looks so good. I'll have to find that purplish contrast
Happy to help
This is a lovely recipe for yellow and I just picked up a set using the link
Thanks mate 😘
This is my go to for yellow especially on space marines. Going to try these brushes too, as with that nice link they are waaaaay cheaper than Artis Opus.
A LOT cheaper and just as good IMO
This video was enough to make me subscribe. You are very talented ❤thank you for this video, because it is helping me paint my imperial fists 🎉
VIEWS FOR THE VIEWS GOD
SUBS FOR THE SUBS THRONE
Great video once more. Quality result with minimum technical skill level. So I was on the look out for a set of dry brush so your sponsor was right on time. Saved a few $$ in the process even after the conversion to Canadian currency. Cheers mate
Happy to help
can't wait to see you an Ultramarine ;) :P
Yesterday, I looked on my Terminator Captain and wondered how I could get him into an Imperial Fist...and there you are...! 😂 Thank you so much for this much appreciated video, you saved my weekend! Greetings from Germany ❤
Happy to help
That first layer looks just like a 2 part Magos purple 1 part volupus pink mix! (play around with that a little it’s not exact) Great video i just found your channel and im loving it!
Thanks mate 😘
Thank you so much for this video, JH! I'm going to use this technique on a model I've been putting off painting!
Awesome!!
Really awesome technique. It's fun to experiment with other contrasts.
It really is
It really is
Definitely recommend picking a set of the drybrushes up - I have them myself and you can't beat them for the price.
Indeed you can't
How do they withstand drybrushing metallic paints?
Just as well as more expensive alternatives - and the fact they are so well priced means you won't be put off using them as much with harsher paints.
I love the effect and I can’t wait to try it! I have a doubt, do you think applying the purple with an airbrush, or priming the whole mini light purple before the airbrush, would make a difference?
That's a perfectly good approach, you can even do a light white zenithal and then the drybrush
Very impressive as always!
Thanks
Another great tutorial, Juan! Cheers!
Happy to help
Bought some brushes, this looks awesome Juan, thank you, will definitely use this in the near future!
Thanks mate 😘
I used the link to get the brushes. I hope you get some moneys off it
I should!
Love this, any tips on applying it to vehicles/large surfaces? Considering to switch my current approach for my imperial fists since it's too resource intensive...
Fantastic coloring. I need a set of Express Colors!!
YES YOU DO!
yissss love a bit o colour theory, me!
Me encanta ese tono de amarillo para los puños imperiales. Y muy sencillo el proceso. Mis dieses.
Gracias 😊
Looks amazing. The purple really made it. What white was this as they do not all dry brush equally
I still use my old and much beloved Ceramite White. Not sure what I'm going to do when it runs out
Sweet! Thx a lot. I totally love this series!
Any chance that there will be a zero skill for ork skin?
At some point probably. I will do Space Marines first for obvious reasons
Looks fantastic. I'll try this on my tau.
Have you tried black lining? Does it look good?
this should work with other colours as well, right? red/purple wash for blue and green armour, blue/green wash for red armour. could do a light yellow drybrush for green and red too
Great video, what a result on that yellow. Will you be doing other colours? I’d love to see green!
My idea is to, with time, move through all the main chapters. But I want to have all the videos be a maximum of three steps with an optional final highlight, and the testing takes time
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures sounds awesome, can’t wait to see more :)
IMPRESIONANTE resultado en, sólo 3 pasos!
Gracias guapo
I find Imperial Fists contrast would work even better and easier than this mix with a medium. Its very highly pigmented, doesn't pools or behave like an usual contrast paint, you can paint very large surfaces with a normal brush using it. Of course the light pink undertone is a must, something close to Hello Kitty pink works the best.
I tested both and I prefer this one but my taste is subjective of course
Citadel's Fulgrim Pink has been my go to undertone for the yellow parts of the clothing in my Sisters Of Battle army.
I know you mostly paint with “contrast”, but is there any chance you will test the new warpaints from Army Painter? (They almost sound too good to be true). And I like it when you once in a while paint stuff like the Avatar of Khaine - where we can see your skill at the next level 💪
I'm also intrigued by them, so I will see if I can get my hands on them
Came back to say, this is very similar to how I do my yellow, but with Citadel contrast paints because I can't get Vallejo where I live (not unless I order online and wait weeks for it to show up). Going to have to adapt this to my glossy citadel nonsensical ways. 10/10
That's why I give alternatives here, I know most people can't access Vallejo right now
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures It's weird, back in the day (like 15 to 20 years ago) as a little kid, I found Vallejo paints in my local stores all the time. Now today I can't find it anywhere. Lots of Citadel and Army painter around in America
Thank you for the video and for the simple and effective painting technique. We will be waiting for something similar for other primary colors. Perhaps, may the Emperor protect us, there will even be a heretical blue color. 😅
I have plans for all the colours
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures And it's great! Thank you!
This is great, thanks!
Happy to help
Buenísimo!
Gracias
Awesome tutorial Juan, as always. Thank you for this! I'll be really interested to see à Salamander next. Would you start from a violet undertone for the green? Keep up the great work!
I would have to think about that, but it's probable
Great work and tganks for the heads up on a dry brush set that is cheaper than Artis Opus and more brushes than tye Army painter set, they are now in my anazon shopping basket.
AWESOME!
I love your recent Black recipe any chance you tackle darkangles green?
Yes I will move through all the chapters with time
Can't wait! green, & bone, to show of the new xpress range.
How about ultramarines blue next?? ❤
Already planning the next ones, you will have to be patient
BROOOOO this is great. What colours would you use for Dark Angels? Using this technique.
I'm working on videos for all chapters, stay tuned
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures 🔥🔥🔥
Nice...I'm wondering if you could skip the drybrush step, by first basing in purple/magenta. then zenithal highlight white and go straight to the yellow.
You can but you are going to miss a lot of the edge highlights and stuff like that. Also zenithal will go into the recesses unlike dry brushing.
But it's a matter of preference
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures I definitely think you'd have more clean up if you airbrush the zenithal, but I I guess it just depends where you want to apply your effort. Thanks!
Great tutorial, will you do a tut for other colours?
As the purple was used for the yellow. Could anyone tell me an equivalent that would work well for a light blue.
Also, those dry brishes look similar to the artis opus set.
The brushes are basically the same for a third of the price, absolutely amazing bargain.
As for other colours, I will make more, stay tuned
@JuanHidalgoMiniatures will do, and im looking forward to them!
Love this series. Will we get a Zero Skill red?
Yes
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures any chance it'll drop within the next few days before I start painting my BA? haha
@oldmate86 no, sadly no.
Do you know what the contrast equivalent of deep purple is? Or will any purple do?
Every time I see you bringing the dry brushes out I think of your copying the masters series (Richard Gray uses them quite a bit). Will you ever bring it back? I’d love to see your take on Marco Frisoni, Sergio Calvo or Julia Mushura’s styles!
Also how do these compare to the Rosemary & Co dry brushes?
That series is one I do only when I feel like it and I'm in the mood. It will come back bit no idea when.
I'm a Rosemary and Co fanboy and let me tell you, these are as good or at least very, very close
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures thanks a million Juan! I’ll have to give them a try when my existing makeup brushes finally get tired of life.
I have imperial fist contrast could I use this instead ?
So far I have seen brown and red bases for painting yellow, but it's the first time I've seen purple, it looks fantastic!
Regarding purple I also remember once I saw someone using druuchi violet to make the shadows of golden painted, have you ever tried this method?
Yes, I do that all the time and it is AMAZING
Super quick and nice way to do it, i just can't stop seeing the powdery textrure from the drybrush though..
I'm not the best Drybrusher 😂
But feel free to do that step with any other method, I just showed what's the easiest for me
Is the Dreadnought Yellow a new colour, I can only see it on pre order? Great video btw 👌
Yes it's part of the new batch of Xpress, specifically part of the INTENSE line
Awesome video , cant wait to try the process for myself. Quick question . What do you use for your red on your pauldrons an chest ?
An would you use the same process for vehicles ?
Great work! Can't wait to try this. Can I ask how I should touch up any mistakes as I do the details? Thanks.
Easy, don't make mistakes.
That is always going to be the problem with this kind of technique. Fixing mistakes is hard.
Nice timing! A couple weeks ago I figured out my go-to recipe for yellow on my Ironjaws. I find starting with Magos Purple followed by Imperial Fist then a drybrush of Dorn Yellow works amazing.
If you like it really dirty you can hit it with Seraphim Sepia after that.
Nice
Incredible yellow recipee and techniques! Maybe, it's time to start another space marine army, but instead of my ultra smurfs, this Imperial Fists guys 😂
Yellow is always better than Blue
I've seen people use Artis Opus brushes, which seem very similar, using a technique of actually introducing a small amount of water via a 'dampening pad'. Is that what the sponge is for in this kit?
Yes, exactly that. This kit comes with a dampening pad too, super useful.
I'm still learning how to use it well
Is the deep purple express paint
Is this a painting video or an advert for brushes ?
It's both, as I disclose clearly at the beginning of the video this is a PAID video
Have you tried this approach with other colors? Do you think this approach of under shading with purple would work with a olive green to paint Raptors ?
Working on more colours right now
Hello juan, it just so happens that zero skills is my expertise
Lol
I'm struggling to find a process i really like for my blood angels paint scheme, this process yields amazing results do you have a process using the contrast style paints for red?
Working on it
Beautiful. Is there any way to translate this method to vehicles?
I made a video on how I tackle vehicles using a technique similar to this for my Imperial Guard. Spoiler alert it involves an airbrush.
Great video! Really love the warm tone and so easy to achieve! Quick question you may have covered before but how did you do the blue lenses and what paints did you use? Love the effect 👌
Easy
- Sotek Green
- Temple Guard Blue
- 1:1 Temple Guard and White
- White
Brilliant, thank you!!
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures
Gracias
This is awesome! How would you do a zero skill Ultramarines armor?
Working on it
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures I actually gave up and painted my Ultramarines black after your Recipe, with a blue shoulder pad. I like it!
@Lullefication fucking awesome idea
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures yeah I love it! Painting the tropps according to your recipe, and the characters blue according to the eavy metal method. I hope black Ultramarines are ok in a tournament setting 😁
@Lullefication your minis, your rules.
If anyone ever tells you you are not allowed to paint your minis however you like, don't bother playing with them.
Would be interested to see your take on the new Express Intense for Dark Angels 😊
It's one of my favourite new paints and one I suggested and approved myself.
I will make a video using it at some point in the future
Will have to give it ago, I mean anything is better than Dark Angels green Contrast.
@MLIDantos oh, trust me Monastic Green is the best Dark Angels contrast paint ever made.
Hola, que color base utilizarías para un proceso similar a este pero con color rojo? Saludos
Estoy trabajando en todos los demás colores, poco a poco llegaré a ellos pero esto requiere de muchas pruebas
curious if the artis opus factory decided to make their own under a different brand. they look 1 to 1 only thing different looking is the brush cleaner. that might just come down to a black lid
Artis Opus factory is Rosemary and Co in the UK, these are Chinese made but outstanding quality
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures they look well worth a try for their price.
Just wondering, would you follow the same procedure with vehicles?
I made a video on how I tackle vehicles using a technique similar to this for my Imperial Guard. Spoiler alert it involves an airbrush.
This is awesome!!! Could you do the same with other colors too? This is such a great yellow, I wonder how could you do a fiery red. Could it also purple base + white drybrush + yellow highlight drybrush and then the xpress red?
I'm working on videos for all the major chapters, stay tuned
First question I was going to ask is if these dry brushes compare with the Artis Opus. That's good to know, I might grab a set soon.
Do it, for the price there's nothing like them in the market
This is fantastic. Could i use Imperial Fist Contrast to a similar result?
You can but the results are not going to be the same
@JuanHidalgoMiniatures I have some Iyanden Yellow so will try that instead. Thank you.
@Warhammer_North_East Happy to help, make sure dilute it
Awesome Video! I'm having a hard time finding Dreadnaught Yellow. What was the alternate yellow you suggested in the video? I couldn't quite make it out.
Iyanden Yellow from Citadel
Thank you! @@JuanHidalgoMiniatures
This is an awesome and super simple tutorial! Do you think this technique would work well on larger flat panels for vehicles or things with less sharp edges like capes/clothes?
I would use an airbrush for the yellow application for anything larger than a sentinel
can you do zero skill blue?
Working on it
