Just to help keep it short and simple: - Remove two torx screws (might be 20, 25, some say they had a 15 in it, so try your size) - Unlock your steering column adjustment, pull all the way towards you and down and LOCK the steering wheel in place - Use preferably only your fingernails to pry out the speedo (you can slightly wack the top of the dashboard to help it jump out of its place) - Disconnect the two connectors by simultaneously pushing down the lock pad and moving the push bar which will help remove the connector from its pace - Take the speedo, push it back, pull it back outside so the top will stick above your steering wheel and pull to the side - Done. Install back in reverse order. PS: If you plan on pulling the needles then think again. In most cases you need to hold the needle pin with separate pliers so you don't pull them out of the acutator leaving you with a broken speedo. Look it up how its properly done before you damage something you may regret later. PS2: If you plan on doing something that may break the speedo completely then you will need a replacement which has to be coded to your car for your speedo to show correct values. Just keep in mind that it may cost you extra.... not that it would be something new on a BMW but this extra is something nobody really wants to pay for :)
Yes but no. It opens a different way from how you're describing. It open from the back. Theres small star shape screws on the back of the cluster. You take those out and it separates
So after I removed mine the gauges for heating is in the red, my coolant, transmission and abs light is on. Also gas light is on. How do I get my cluster back?
Go to junkyard..find same harness/color wires. Cut and rewire. Maybe janky, but it's better than having to replace the entire harness. Cause that's your 2nd option.
Did you remove your dash so that you can put it in an oven? My dash has gone dead and someone recommended to remove the dash and put it in the over at 150-200 F for two hours to remove moisture from the internals of the dashboard.
No I removed it for instructional purposes only. and you don't need to heat up your cluster to open it. there's like 4 screw in the back you undo and boom it's open. there is no glue holding it together. unless your is a different model, then..Idk lol
+Waur Well I have to remove mine because mine is sort of dead! I saw some posts on E46fan and others where guys have heated them up to remove moisture from the internal part of the cluster. I am going to try it tonight and if that doesn't work I have to send it out to get repaired.
+Constantine T there is no glue holding your cluster together. they're clips if you've ever had it out of the car before. now if you're talking about your whole dashboard then, I'm not sure. Cause I've never taken my dashboard out. but that thing I show how to remove in the video is called a cluster.
I guess everybody think about when your cluster have a short circuit and do strange things, everything moves once, then totally dead. That's why they talk about to put in the oven and remove the moisture or humidity. I think 1 out of 10 cases would work.
I like this video😊 its a real life story hands on no edits the real struggle 💪

What are you referring to when you say Speedo? The entire instrument cluster? The speedometer needle? *confused*
Can you take the glass/plastic off the front? I need to re-glue one of the silver trim pieces around the dial cuz it feel off.

Hi. A great video. Did you find the location of the indicator lights relay behind the cluster please ?
My tool was t-20 instead on 25. But I got my screws out
