I have a base 987.2 Boxster with SOUL competition headers and two-way exhaust, Softronics ECU map, Numeric Shifter & cables, Flat six motorsports solid aluminum shift knob. With these changes it’s a poor man’s Spyder that howls like a GT3. After 145k miles still leaves me smiling after every drive thru the twisties.
Preach! After doing 700 miles in a 987 spyder I embarked on a mission to make my 987.1 into a poor man's spyder. I too have the tune, exhuast, shifter & cables but I also did Cayman R springs w/ Bilsten Dampers and recaro buckets to get close to the feel of the spyder. It transforms the driving experience.
the base/S 9A1 engines in the 987 (and 981, though they are slightly different) sound a lot more shouty compared to the 3.8 and 4.0's. Like the 4.0's are higher pitched at higher rpm's but the 2.7, 2.9, and 3.4 sound higher pitched at low/mid rpm's (with exhaust or headers)
I'm partial to the 987.2 Boxster Spyder due to I own a 2010 Cayman S with some performance modifications push out 370 HP. I have the standard suspension, as the PASM is either too soft or too harsh; I drove a Cayman equipped with the PASM before choosing. I would have liked to had a box to tick for a 3.8 at the time (408 HP 911 GTS variant) when I ordered my Cayman, but Porsche wasn't going to have that at that time. The GT3/GT4 RS 4.0 would be ideal or a DeMan 4.5.
I have a lot of time with 987.2 and 981.1 Spyders on road and track. The 987.2 is the better road car. Smaller, fast enough for the road and hydraulic steering. The 981.1 feels like a hotrod in comparison, much faster and better on track. Pick your poison.
Was 718 stock exhaust? You need a soul fabspeed etc to make 718 sing. 718 looks better from every angle IMHO. Hard to beat the formula of these cars - ME NASP manual and an open top.
I have a 2022 Porsche 718 Spyder. Hard to believe the Boxter is better. Mine has the OA PF delete exhaust and a stage one tune. The Boxter sounds like it's not N.A.
how does it not sound NA lmao? It sounds like my base 981 with the KN i put on there. It sounds like any of the other 2.9, 2.7, 3.4 9A1 engines. It simply had what sounded like headers. No spools or whines

Gorgeous cars, thanks!
I can’t wait until the re-open the other half of Redwood road!
Nice. I have new Bilstein dampers too and am considering lowering springs, GT3 brake reservoir and Goodridge SS brake lines as well. Next year :)
987.2 spyder exhuast🔥
So good

Check engine light on the 987.2?
Given that Emira and 718 Spyder/GT4 are similar-ish money, which are you taking for 70/30 road/HPDE?

The 987 looks like WAY more fun than the 718. The noise is ridiculous though (not in a good way). "refinement" = anti-fun
987 was fun but i liked the sharpness of the 718
718 needs an x-pipe exhaust!... that 987 sounds wild
bro please find a 2gr swapped mr2 to review they sound insane
would love to!

Would love to drive the 981 in a future video!

conclusion in the last quarter of the video. i don't think the 987.2 is necessarily better
@@jubbalandcars They are like two brothers, mostly same with some differences :-)
