In most Modern Superhero Stories the Vigilante is either a Super Hero or a Super Villian. A Super Villian Vigilante has a fanatical and closed minded belief in Right and Wrong so when they commit crimes they believe the Ends justify the Means. Without seeing the Consequences of their actions are immoral. The Worst type of this is when they see redeemable/morally grey/forced into situations as Evil people and needs to be destroyed. While at the time being willing to harm good people for either the Good Victim's own protection OR for the belief the ends justify the means even when the Vigilante feels guilt for their actions OR because they don't care about the collateral damage seeing innocent people as disposable ponds. The only way for the Vigilante Villian to be redeemed is for them to have a tragic back story OR to be trying to safe people from an evil so horrible the audience can justify it reasonably OR society is so messed up there is no other way to fix it.
