I started my first game with book seven and never looked back. At that,it never felt light and potentially too tough (depending on villian draw). Solid middle with expansions worth having.
This is how I got my niece into deck builders and really board games in general. If anything I wish there a better way to scale difficulty. As she has gotten older, and better at games, we tend to win without ever being in any real danger.
I find it's purely RNG whether we win or lose. Sometimes the villains and dark arts draws are too brutal at the start when your deck is too weak. We love the game but the balance is lacking.
The expansions are also pretty great and add more character options late game. We implemented a few house rules to make it more progressive in later years. Splitting the market into two decks based on cost prevents more dead influence turns. 1-4 for 3 market slots and 4+ for the other. Then the villains area ordered slightly scaling (early years first) although we don't always play that way, it can be fun to go through all villains in year order after you complete the game.
This is what I considered to be my gateway game into hobby board gaming. My friends and I played this every single week during 2020. Once we realized we could play games like this, something like Gloomhaven seemed so easy
My girlfriend LOVES Harry Potter!! And this was her first game she ever bought and her first game she ever played that wasn't monopoly, or risk lol. Thank for the great video as always!
It’s a weekend of Radcliffe family adorableness! First a Rafiki video and now a Rikki video. Rikki - thanks for sharing your thoughts, what you liked and what you didn’t like.
Holy cow Rikki has gotten so big! Couple more videos and she'll be matching your height Alex! This is a great game for HP fans, each one I've played with has loved it
You need the monster expansion and the game is better when you play epic mode. Or I don’t really remember the name. This make the game harder and much better in my opinion

Expansions are next :)

My copy has been on the trading block for a long while now. When I did play it, I had to add a couple house rules to shorten the game.
I think it depends on the group for it
Good luck with the final box of the newest expansion. We have been trying for months to beat that lol

This is one of my family's favorites games. We love all expansions. We got in the habit that we dont move on unless we beat a mission.

I can't support BGG because of the racist nature of those who run and moderate that website. If I ever had enough money, I would Elon Musk BGG.
