As someone who played Roblox for almost my entire childhood up until I was 16 (a year ago), it is scary how many actual adults there are that play games on the site and run the "stock" market now. The game has gotten way more serious than just a silly kids game in a lot of instances. I got involved in some discord servers and games that were full of literal adults who enjoyed acting like children and playing with children. Super weird.

Roblox's "by kids for kids" schtick worked fantastically in 2007, where the most you could do is make a cool car and then pretend it actually drove with absolutely no financial incentive. The platform already had a long history of garbage moderation (the admin panel got leaked several times and mass hackings were just the norm) so introducing monetisation was the killing stroke.
Sadly true. I played roblox for ALONG time by now, and seen some of the worst of the worst... I still play sometimes for kicks and giggles and to take a walk down memory lane, but other times I to try to protect these kids from creepy fucking perverts! I was playing Dragon Adventures at one point, and during an event someone said they were "giving away" a free dragon. I knew something was up and luckily no one said they wanted it. So I said I would take it, and they said they wanted nudes (obviously they couldn't actually say that but you knew what they ment).... I'm fucking glad I was there and saw them before a kid did... I know how desperate kids get on this game to get some rare item. Also I knew something was up beacuse at that point, you could not trade the dragon they had, you could only buy it through in game auctions or win it from the event itself.
@@nova14414 Ngl i agree but you can't blame roblox for the perverts. They make so many words tagged. Having perverts in a kids game is surprisingly normal. And at the time alot of kids didn't know that it was locked behind very specific requirements to get the dragon (had to get "charms" to increase odds of getting the other two season dragons and then you got the 3rd free) or through buying it for anywhere between 1-2 million coins. I can't count how many kids would run over and ask to offer for mine, and then I had explain why they cant only for them to not understand.
I have been saying this for awhile. Another thing is that Roblox is getting kids addicted to gambling at a young age. Everyone rips EA for their loot boxes but no one says anything about Roblox. The biggest game on Roblox is called adopt me, where players open up surprise eggs for pets, which have different rarities. Since Adopt Me brings in a lot of money, many other developers have implemented similar loot box mechanics into their Roblox games. Roblox doesn't care because they are making tons of money from Robux which kids buy to spend on these games.
Man, my sisters go crazy over Adopt Me. Luckily we don't have money for then to siphon, but if we did, they absolutely would spend every last dime. They're always talking about how the need Robux for legendary, neon flying unicorns and rats and what not. They have friends in game though who sometimes buys them these things though. It's crazy how addicted they are.

"Kids will play anything" is such a true statement. When I was in college for game development we had a few public school open houses. It could be anything from 5 year olds to 17 year olds about to graduate high school. Even my worst games that even I knew were buggy as hell (usually older projects I threw up on computers because why not) and they played it up! My favorite game project I made was a survival based synthwave space shooter that had upgrades as you went along and a huge stats list at the end. This one kid played it for 5 HOURS! He asked my professor and his parents if he could stay there longer to play it. I gave the kid a USB with the game on it and have his highscore saved on a picture somewhere. Which is wholesome but like I played the game less and I had to make it which included playtesting. They'll play anything and sometimes it's a refreshing thing for devs lol
The only flaw about that statement is that other roblox players aren't kids anymore. A portion of the players will choose a roblox game that has cool vfx, building designs, and graphics

The problem is that nobody really ever takes ROBLOX seriously. Because it's a "LEGO game for kids." This statement is despite ROBLOX's increased spending on campaigns to market it to older teens, and the implementation of a voice chat system that requires photo-ID verification. The fact of the matter is, there are serious development companies who put out either a massive amount of shit or genuinely fun and well-structured games. Some of these CEOs genuinely do make upwards of a million dollars every year. It is not 2006 anymore, ROBLOX has changed. Companies with upwards of 100 staff members are producing content on the platform now. ROBLOX Corporate shut down the official forums and is allowing unregulated communication through third parties, and anyone who gets swept up in it is thrown under the bus if they are somehow mistreated. That being said, ROBLOX already mistreats its developers with the sorry state of the conversion rates between Robux and USD on Developer Exchange. There's not much to hope for, but maybe some affluent altruist will come along and bring up a case against ROBLOX after *their* child is subject to this unregulated bullshit.

This has been going on for a long time on Roblox. Not only does Roblox have terrible moderation, sites issues, and issues with manipulating their young developers. One issue that hasn't been brought up is that Roblox offers no kind of anti cheat to the popular games that developers make on top of already taking a large cut of their money. Roblox actively does nothing about the exploiters on their platform. There's even a youtuber with over 132k subscribers called Sakpot, and all he does is teach children how to inject exploits/hacks through an executer. And who knows what these executables contain. And you can't even play popular FPS games on Roblox like bad business or phantom forces without there being an exploiter in every server. Even your squid game video was bombarded with exploiters trying to ruin the stream. Roblox rakes in all the cash and the developers are left without much protection of anything. Developers have even made their own anti cheat, but it still isn't enough.
while this is true they did atleast add a feature called filtering enable that doesn't allow people to inject whatever they want into the game including porn and shit which was doable on pretty much every game many years ago. it's mostly just limited the client and server side so you can only really manipulate your own clients view and values of stuff
@@gyrthez246 I've heard of this time and time again and it almost sounds like sarcasm. Either way the the anti cheat for pf is mediocre at best. I play it frequently and had 6 exploiters in a single game just the other day. It's absurd that developers had to even go to such lengths to try and prevent them. It just proves how terrible roblox is in implementing an anti cheat. For roblox to be valued in the billions as a company, they need to do more in preventing cheaters exploiting games on their platform.

I played the game when I was younger, and came back once to check everything out, but it's always been bad. I've never been involved with the controversies, but I made the silent observation that the shop system was messed up. I play Fortnite, which I'll let you make fun of all day, but that's not the point. The items in that game are only sold by Fortnite itself, and have a pricing pattern based on rarity and types of items. Roblox, on the other hand, is dominated by items that are priced according to users, not the game itself. The problem here is as it was discussed in the video, many of the users are children who do not have a definite concept of money, prices, and stock.
the game is 15 years old, many have grown up with the site and the people who these stocks and whatnot prices are directed to are to the older players, kids are not appealed to the items since they are typically older, fortnite sells soulless cashgrab "skins" for money, they never have value after that, atleast in roblox you can actually sell them.
@Flyin' Steve im sorry but a corporation literally doing *less* than the bare minimum isnt even worth acknowledging, regards of how much "better" it looks conpared to another corporation. Everything else said is fine though.
@Flyin' Steve fortnite makes "skins" to sell to kids because they know kids are guilliable and will buy up stupid shit like "skins" for a ridiculous amount of money that has no real value.
Steam: Takes 30% of revenue from developers. Roblox: Takes 75% of revenue from developers. How is that even ok in any sense? I mean Roblox has gambling, NFTs, and they still need 75% of developer revenue? Edit: Just remember you have to buy Robux which is a non-refundable in-game currency in the first place to buy anything in Roblox including things made by developers. So it is technically much higher than 75% of profit they make.
Roblox doesn't really have gambling systematically developers implement gambling but its mostly trading. But yeah I get what you mean. I just hate that they refer to it as a childrens game when its really teen / adult based now almost half and half with the amount of children on the platform. And if your argument is under 18, doesn't know what they're getting into , thats on the parents.

@@dumbanimenerd4169 Let's say 50% of the playerbase is 12 and under, being considered kids, while the rest are above. That means that teens, young adults, adults, and even the elderly, all put together, just come equal to the amount of kids playing. And you don't think it's a children's game?
i'm a roblox game developer myself and I wholeheartedly agree. kids definitely get taken advantage of on the platform and I only get a small sliver of the actual profits the game makes, about 20% of the initial purchase after the 30% tax and the DevEx rates. edit: you can't DevEx robux that has been earned through hat selling or trading. only profits from your game can be converted into real money. edit 2: you also have to be 13+ to apply for DevEx and need to submit tax forms and government identification.
You really think kids need their own government identification or whatever in order to get DevEx? They'll probably take their parent's credit cards and licenses and then start rolling in a couple of pennies because they spent all their robux on a hat.
In middle school I had an extra class where we learned about a whole bunch of stuff and one of the projects we did was to learn about the economy and how the stock market works and they used something called the stock market game, which basically involved tons of different schools and would start up and end throughout the year, basically you were given 3 million fake dollars to spend on stocks and the idea was you were supposed to well, play the stock market. And at the end of the game (which typically lasted around 3 months per each game) whoever had the most money accumulated by selling their shares and stuff would get like $300. Honestly it was really fun and was super informative.

Because the reality of it is that this shit has become normalised. Not digging at the creator of the roblox video but corporations exploiting kids has never been a new thing in gaming as a whole let alone roblox. Most games these days have micro transactions that are literally designed to exploit dumb kids into buying their crappy currency. Even the employees that create games for triple A studios ever receive a fraction of what the actual game makes and those games usually make a lot.

The gambling stock market reminds me a lot of Valve's response to gambling in CSGO and DOTA2. It was something along the lines of "We do not determine the value of these items therefore we are not responsible for underage gambling with our items" to try to separate themselves from having to do anything about the gambling sites.
@@turmspitzewerk they don't profit from them tho. The gambling is entirely between the sites and the players. Valve only makes money off the community market and games.
@@ari3903 not sure if I am confusing things but some ex Valve employees said that they never expected the prices of digital items to go that high. The popularity of a 3rd party trading platforms was unexpected as well. Valve initially thought that the vast majority of transactions would be done within the system where it is impossible to convert Steam $ into a real cash.
I knew a guy who i used to play with who used to look for p*rn games on Roblox. He insisted to me than it was 18+ people ONLY, but the fact that he was looking for that sht on ROBLOX of all things was something i was not standing for and i no longer talk or interact with them.
I just have to say Roblox’s moderation is the equivalent of somebody looking at a blank page and deciding your fate off that. I once got a warning for making a slightly political joke with no real intention to be political. Then there are the people in servers bypassing the chat filter and shouting racial slurs, and in Roblox’s eyes, this is perfectly fine. My friend wanted to make a realistic game, and there was a female character in it. There was nothing sexual about this character or model, and his account - with $100 worth of Robux got banned. And also, they made voice chat where you have to put a driver’s license in to have it, and people can search up former president’s Brack Obama drivers license, and you can use it and Roblox will allow it. Then there are games like build a boat where you can make your creations in game, and people can make the p hub logo, and tell people to search up the website. It truly baffles me how kids can be safe on this website, a website with scammers, and other malicious people, while being safe. Anyways my rant about Roblox is over.
@UglyBeast a scammer reported me because i tricked them into thinking i was gonna get scammed by them. And roblox gave me a warning, which isnt to bad but like. WHY?
Yeah I agree, I like this game but they really need to do better, they allow the stupidest things and then ban you for things that you shouldn't even be banned for....and yeah, you can litterally say anything In voice chat..which is definitely not good for kids, and why should you need to show your ID or driver's license 😅 idk it's just not a safe game even though it's targeted for kids....
@@uglybeast650 yeah but people are getting banned for dumb reasons, and roblox allows alot of bad stuff, that's the point. And why allow voice chat if they don't even allow swearing and such..it just makes no sense
those are just resale prices set by players themselves. I could go take any collectible item and sell it for a billion robux but it doesn’t mean the item is worth said price or that anyone will actually buy it for that price.
roblox was really all about making games back then, as a builder its upsetting to see roblox have been exploiting kids for years by profiting over their parents money instead of funding it on moderation
this feels like a movie. corrupt government collecting taxes or something while contributing literally nothing and exploiting workers while crime runs free in a world with no hope
As a long time player, just wanna clarify, with these stock items or limiteds is what roblox calls them, there is something called RAP, now when you see the price, thats just the asking price. I can dig up some dirt and say its worth a billion robloons but in reaility its worth nothing, that's where RAP comes in, which is basically the average of all purchases of something. While the hat you showed was worth 600 mil, players who trade on roblox would only see it worth around 500k since thats the RAP. Insane prices on low rap items just means no one wants to sell, so they throw it up for millions cause you know, jsut in case.

Kinda crazy seeing it on someone else's profile considering I made it for myself and haven't really done anything that would warrant it being spread around that easily. I decided to make a game about 5 days ago, so far ive put in 60 hours and im not expecting ANY money when im done. itll take me months to make myself. but its more of a fun passion project since im a SAHM and have nothing to do anyway
I would just like to offer some counter points. 1 I know and have spoken to an actual roblox dev (The dude who created the roblox squid game) while roblox may be taking a large sum of the profits he himself stated that with only roughly 10,000 concurrent players on you can easily make more then enough money to live off of roblox alone (Upwards of 50,000). The creators of Jailbreak are millionares so you can't argue that roblox is taking so much of their money they still do pay and they pay enough that you can become wealthy off the platform. 2 Roblox is unique as a gaming company because unlike all other services like Steam and such they run your overhead. They maintain the game engine for you, pay for your servers, and run the overhead this costs money and that money is hard for roblox to make the entire platform is free almost all game are free and the player base is kids. What this means is that the paying audience is tiny for the size of actual users. In short roblox has been struggling to make profits and has already been taking losses every year to keep the platform going so their is a legitimate reason for them to be taking such a large share of the profits. I'm not defending roblox. I'm just sayiing their is another side of this picture and straight up vilifying them because of one report is rather dumb.
It's sad; being a game developer with almost no revenue. It's not really the fact that my game is terribly made (although that's really your opinion): the problem is how easily people on the website can judge games/hats/anything that has some value based off of the demand for it. Such as Roblox Stock and Commissions. The large cut that's taken from my game + the lack of many players has only led to almost an non-purchasable amount of money. I have almost lost profit from my game; as it takes money to advertise, market, etc. This is more of a selfish rant, but this is a way to show one of the bad sides about roblox. And sure, some kids may be sexualizing games on roblox with the lack of mental capacity and not thinking of consequences, but this is very rare compared to what I have said above. Thank you for reading this.
I made a game in 5 minutes, a week later I got a bunch of robux from it, so no idea what you’re talking about. If you'd like to start a real career though, roblox would certainly be one of the worst places to do so

The saddest part is, you cannot convince these children because they are so brainwashed into following them. An example of this is when Roblox went offline. People went mad, so imagine a world where you try to convince these kids to not play the game they've so thoroughly become attached to

I can hardly manage to read RUclips comments without getting upset at some of the dumb shit being said.
how the fuck does this teach the stock market, it just teaches basic supply and demand with real fucking money, cant they just show the prices of diamonds and why it is so expensive(because of the high demand and artificially lowered supply)
This video sheds so much light on that platform I played it as a kid and I play time to time with my nephew (he’s 6) and the platform itself is just so different
As a roblox developer from 4:34 - 5:35 this is so painfully true. The only "official" place on the roblox site to get hired is the talent page, and it is impossible because no one ever reads their inbox messages to jobs they've posted. So everybody resorts to discord servers, and it's flooded with underpayment, low effort anime game things, scams, little 10 year olds trying to "manage" a development team and will only promise a "Percent" and if you get lucky to find someone who will actually pay you in real money not bullshit lego dabloons they want way too much work done for too little.
The problem with Roblox is simply that there’s too many interactions that _should_ be legally enforced, but they all happen with minors and zero moderation.
One of the big reasons catalog collectibles aren’t talked about is that they’re not very prevalent in today’s Roblox outside of a 1% of the 1%, if not smaller. Limiteds were a flex item that made your character stand out due to their uniqueness and the limited amount of accessory items Roblox had. Nowadays, since the development of the UGC, most limiteds have lost their uniqueness outside of the well known like valks or the ones with special effects like sparkles. Kids obviously like cool looking things over just being collectible, and as the UGC is making new highly detailed clothing items while limiteds continue to look more dated, less and less people flock to them anymore.
@@yesyes-om1po 2012 was around the time trading began to explode in popularity on Roblox, with a game called "Trade Hangout" that dominated the BC-Only game section. Obviously, it still wasn't something everyone cared about, but there was a huge community around it as opposed to today. The game alone holds over 92 million visits, and half a million favorites, which is a very large amount for a game that was BC only, had little to do outside of trading, and was mainly relevant in a much smaller Roblox era compared to today. Everyone has a unique experience on Roblox, some people had more exposure to limiteds and limited trading on Roblox depending on what games and communities they involved themselves in, while some didn't. But statistically, it is undeniable that limited trading wasn't incredibly popular compared to today's standards. Now with the UGC, trade botting, limited bot sniping, the price gouging of limiteds, and so on, it has shrunk in size dramatically. I say this as someone that has been playing Roblox since 2008, my whole childhood, and was an active trader in that era.
and either way the only reason you'd own a limited is just for bragging rights considering you can't DevEx them and who would pay over a billion dollars on something that'd you would only be able to use in a single game

A person just asking people to take a free item that's untradeable then randomly asks for nudes?
@@9rebel9blood9 if you chose to think that then fine, but unfortunately it's not. There is alot of dumb gullible kids on that game. I see alot fall for everything from trust trades to crosstrading (against their rules beacuse its easy to get scammed), even after being warned.
"by kids for kids"? That's a literal the Onion slogan.
Sounds cool
awesome man. im also a dev and getting someone to play your game that long STRAIGHT is a big W
The only flaw about that statement is that other roblox players aren't kids anymore. A portion of the players will choose a roblox game that has cool vfx, building designs, and graphics
So like far cry 3 blood dragon?

The thing Charlie's missing is that you aren't allowed to take money out of the roblox nft market, they won't let you transfer unless it's from game dev. You have to do robux money laundering.

As a Roblox Player myself, who frequents RP games you are extremely correct. Even games like Starship Roleplay: HCR-146 Emmissary (For Context, basically a Star Trek inspired Game.) or Neon District (Cyberpunk themed) Are usually swamped by these types of people. I've met a bunch of extremely interesting players with even more interesting characters, and then we have "Jacob/Angel/demon/god of creation/taken/engineer".

Roblox gives something much more valuable than platforms like Core. The playerbase.
Fun fact; Phantom Forces have the best anti cheat on Roblox as they hire(d) developers of popular exploits to help develop the anti cheat detection.
@@gyrthez246 I've heard of this time and time again and it almost sounds like sarcasm. Either way the the anti cheat for pf is mediocre at best. I play it frequently and had 6 exploiters in a single game just the other day. If roblox had developed better anti cheat mechanisms then developers wouldn't even have to hire people that make popular exploits. It's absurd that developers had to even go to such lengths to try and prevent them. It just proves how terrible roblox is in implementing an anti cheat. For roblox to be valued in the billions as a company, they need to do more in preventing cheaters exploiting games on their platform.
They aren't raking in the cash Tho. That why their doing it. Roblox is actually in debt because believe it or not offering a entire game engine for free, running severs, moderating users, not allowing outside adds AND having a player base of small children isnt a good model to earn revenue.
my partner told me they banned their oldest from playing roblox for all the issues they saw (my partner is a gaming nerd too and the dad is too and also he works in IT so yeah they know what theyre doing). absolutely insane.
Absolutely unreal that they can release an item, make it limited to increase its rarity and value, and then take 30% of any future transactions on the artificially inflated item being traded amongst children. This is unimaginably scummy and I have no clue how they haven't faced legal action.

The problem here is as it was discussed in the video, many of the users are children who do not have a definite concept of money, prices, and stock.
wtf do you mean by "dominated by items that are priced according to users, not the game itself"
the game is 15 years old, many have grown up with the site and the people who these stocks and whatnot prices are directed to are to the older players, kids are not appealed to the items since they are typically older, fortnite sells soulless cashgrab "skins" for money, they never have value after that, atleast in roblox you can actually sell them.
@Flyin' Steve ah yes, less than bare minimum and we're supposed to be grateful for that. Not not a corporate simp here at all folks.
And if your argument is under 18, doesn't know what they're getting into , thats on the parents.

roblox does not have their own official nfts
i'm a roblox game developer myself and I wholeheartedly agree. kids definitely get taken advantage of on the platform and I only get a small sliver of the actual profits the game makes, about 20% of the initial purchase after the 30% tax and the DevEx rates.

edit 2: you also have to be 13+ to apply for DevEx and need to submit tax forms and government identification.
You really think kids need their own government identification or whatever in order to get DevEx? They'll probably take their parent's credit cards and licenses and then start rolling in a couple of pennies because they spent all their robux on a hat.
@@wrongteous doesn't work like that, sorry.

Anyways my rant about Roblox is over.
the moderators only look at your chat logs when someone reports you, so if someone doesn’t report someone else they will never get banned
Once I drew a drawing for a decal and got banned for a month, it wasnt even inappropriate

@@abby_babber Well actually, it's just a coincidence they look similar, your pfp has straight lines and goes diagonally to the left. OP's pfp goes diagonally to the right and the lines look like they were drawn in Microsoft paint, as they're incredibly uneven and the colours are not as fairly distributed as yours. In conclusion, don't be surprised when you come across someone with a pfp like that because it's really easy to make.
@@wrongteous I was thinking the same thing after I realized it. Turns out it came from a meme that Thirzy made and it was just a wild coincidence that they used the same color palette. Edit: May I also add that I made my pfp with a really specific color palette in mind (the colors are directly taken from specific characters). While it's not incredibly unbelievable that someone could have used a similar palette, the fact that the colors are arranged exactly the same way (just in a different direction) and in the same order is absolutely mind boggling.

If you'd like to start a real career though, roblox would certainly be one of the worst places to do so

just dont make a roblox game then
who tf goes to roblox to make money? It's a game where only the best of the best people get money. You gotta be kinda famous or advertise your game hella crazy to get rich off of roblox or you just get extremely lucky
something to take note off on the ultra commando, the owner who originally had it gave it to a known trader because he was quitting roblox and he wanted the item in circulation instead of it being trapped into his account.
Watched this yesterday. The entire black market shit is insane. Imagine a company that says they’ll convert your ‘robux’ to cash yet barely do it. So 15 year olds create underground money exchange groups. Trade your in game currently for real cash cause roblox doesn’t want to pay children devs.
Top devs use the underground as well. Nobody really follows roblox rules

I don't think kids including myself ever cared about limiteds, even when they were newer back in 2012.
