    Very nice video. Well done and shot. The knife looks like solid woodscraft blade option, BTW you handled it like a man who knows what he is doing. I might have to add this piece of gear to my collection. Thanks for a great job.

      Thanks Jeff! Yep at this point a knife is sort of like an additional appendage... It is a sweet blade!

    Thanks for the hq Review, i don't understand why so few people like this knife. IMO it's a true hunters knife for big Game and a Great all purpose knife especially as long the focus is about cutting and slicing. For me the HOG 4.5 and the DART are TOPS hidden champs. I just hope I will live Long enough to see TOPS find the Same passion for Detail and quality for their sheaths as they have for their knives and tools. If I'm looking for a TOPS I'm looking for an alternative sheath at the Same Time. Sucks!

    Owned this blade for years and i g2 say it is one of my top favorite knives. Its a toss up between this, my esee 6 and my scar blades papa bear. I love my papa bear design the best but for some reason it doesnt hold an edge as well as my esee or tops? Same steel just not tempered as hard? I tried to contact scar blades and never got a response. My esee 6 is a more down to earth design, slightly shorter with a straight blade, bland handle design plus the unconditional lifetime guarantee. But the longhorn bowie will do anything the esee 6 will, holds an edge just as well plus the design of the blade looks cooler and the handle is much more comfortable/versatile. The reason it doesnt take the top spot is the sheath. I hate tops cheap nylon sheaths. Considering buying a custom leather sheath for this knife though because i like it that much.

    Thanks for shearing with us. This blade looks, and from what I've seen in your video, functions exceptionaly well! I enjoyed your videos immensely, from the processing of the materials, to starting your fire! I'm a huge fan of TOPS knives, I have a few myself. The comment you made in regards to the sheath, I have the "silent hero", as you would no doubt know, comes with a leather sheath, and the Rocky Mountain tread handle scales! And IMO would make an worthy alternative to the long horn, if anyone was looking for one! Thank you once again. Subscribed. 👍

    Hi, I never knew that that handle scallop was called a rocky mountain tread, I had a knife I helped design with that type of handle scales, mine is black G-10 with red liners, but anyhow, I too like a longer blade, and I do carry multi knives, I use to go a 3knife carry, and sometimes to a 4knife carry, it all depended on where and how long the trip, today I sort of changed a little, I still like a longer blade and a neck knife but I like a full handle like on my 3 7/8th's Skookum blade I had made, a little heavy but I don't mind the weight as much as how I like what I can do with it, it's my short blade that I carry around my neck is what I'm trying to say, the other knives are the Browning Independence fix blade, I also like my Rodent Solution I also have smaller neck knives too, but Rodent Solution is a bit heavy so I attach that one to my backpack strap, anyhow the longer blade is exactly how you described it enough realestate to baton with and heavy enough to even lite chop, a large 7" knife and a smaller knife is what I've been carrying latlely, but instead of more knives to use for the right job, I go with a saw and a two bit Nessmuk style hatchet, I just came back from going out for a hot cup of coffee on a open fire earlier today, my two knives were the Swamp Rat Rodent 7 and my Skookum Bush Tool with my Wicked Tough Saw made by Wicked Tree Gear and the Double Bit Hatchet, I also have a 2Hawks Nessmuk style Double Bit Hatchet on order, can't wait, Your knife and mine are very similar and preform similar, great video keep up the good work and Thanx for sharing.

    Someone needs to tell Tops that nylon is for pantyhose! About the only thing to complain about on this knife is the sheath. If a knife is to be useful, it has to be carried. A sheath makes or breaks a knife, and in this case, the cheap, barely functional nylon garbage Tops sends it with ruins what is otherwise a nearly perfect knife. This knife begs for kydex or quality leather. I went with the Silent Hero because it came in leather, which I think is functional and classy. Tops does an amazing job with 1095. The differential heat treating, the impeccable edge geometry; Tops knives just cut so well! I still find myself looking longingly at the Longhorn Bowie. I might have to pick one up and just factor in the cost of a decent sheath for it, but I really wish Tops would just put everything in kydex or leather from the factory.

    • @RealitySurvival
      @RealitySurvival  2 года назад

      I agree that a leather sheath would be much more appropriate. Since it is in that traditional style.

    Top makes that Tom Brown Tracker and that knife makes no sense. Its only claim to fame is being in a movie. “The Hunted” with another Texan Tommie Lee Jones. They should have had this knife. You can get this knife $50 cheaper than that knife.
    This Long Horn Bowie seems to have no draw backs like many of their knife designs. Some are too small or too thin or cost too much.

    I want a sharp spine on all my knives. It makes the tool more versatile.

    • @RealitySurvival
      @RealitySurvival  9 лет назад

      Yep a lot of people feel the same way. Personally on a big knife it doesnt matter to me. On a medium size knife like a Mora it makes more sense. But surely couldnt hurt either way! Thanks.

      It's just personal preference. It's all up to the owner of the knife. Thanks

    Hey JJ, any hot spots on the handle on this knife or cons? I'm on the fence on purchasing the longhorn Bowie or going with another model. I respect your opinion and knowledge and your feedback would be greatly appreciated.

    • @RealitySurvival
      @RealitySurvival  8 лет назад +1

      +Jibby Jabba-Het-Mehet I have not noticed any hot spots and I really like it a lot. I have medium sized hands and the handle was a tad big for my hand but not bad at all. Also as I noted there is no 90 degree spine. For me that is not an issue but some people might not like it. All in all it is a sweet knife! You do need to keep it oiled though because it will rust if not properly cared for. Let me know what you get and how you like it!

      Reality Survival I currently running an Esee 4, want a bigger knife and am impressed with Tops knives. I have a Viper Scout which came sharper than my Esee and has a better fit and finish. I'm looking at the Longhorn, Tex Creek Xl and Esee 6. I'm having a tough time deciding which one to grab so I've decided to say F it and purchase all 3.

    Whats that jacket you have on? Who makes it?

  • @kevinbarry3066
    @kevinbarry3066 9 лет назад

    Hi nice video, First I was born in NYC and I don't know a whole lot about surviving in the woods, But how do I justify a $240 knife? I bought one in a hock shop for $15 and looks almost the same(It's by frost cutlery) what more would this knife do that mine won't. I see alot of vids that review 2-3-4-500 dollar knifes how are they better than say a $50 one. I'm asking you because I feel you are an EXPERT in this stuff, and no i'm not blowing smoke up your skirt either, I think you have the "Street Cred"

    • @RealitySurvival
      @RealitySurvival  9 лет назад

      You only justify it if you have the money for it. There are lots of other options that are cheaper. But you don't buy Tops knives for the price you buy them for the quality and craftsmanship.

  • @kwarnisplayer

      +kwarnisplayer Tru-Spec is the maker of the jacket. I don't see a model. I just picked it up in a local Army Surplus Store. Its a nice lil jacket.

    I like your videos JJ, but not that knife. My criteria for a good bush knife is straight blade edge, flat spine, and either a drop or spear point. Keep up the good work.
