idk sounds accurate to me. once my best friend stabbed me in the leg with a steak knife and broke my TV, and I was SUPER mad, but then we both cried and hugged it out the next day so we're cool now
i hate when i can tell the author's age by how they write. at least do your research on something as popular as instagram. you look absolutely gorgeous btw
You know what I thought of as soon as you read that scene? It sounds like something I read in Chicken Soup for the Soul a lonnnngggg time ago 💀😳 I’m pretty sure that’s where I’ve read that before... a lady, in her 30s/40s ran into a man who reminded her of her grandfather and they struck up a convo (for whatever reason based on where they met) and that’s what she did before they went their separate ways, she asked if she could kiss him on the cheek. But to put that in a young adult book is WEIRD AF.
"hello, im a teenage girl. i like boys. tee hee! but i will totes wait till marriage. lol." Sort of how I imagined this author believes teen girls act. XD
True. I dye my hair all kinds of wacky colours and I don't get followed around stores for it. But, I have had times when I had normal hair where shop owners and staff watched me or asked things like "are you going to pay for that?" while I was IN THE CHECKOUT LINE, so I think some people just assume teenagers want to steal things?? I'm literally the most anxious person alive, I could never go through with it even if I tried
Alex Derby Maybe this is just where I live (in an East Bay Area suburb), but many of the grocery store cashiers have funky colors streaked in their hair. Women who are in the 40s w kids. Tattoos and piercings have to be kept pretty low key for the major chains stores, but they're there too.
I have actually been followed around stores for no reason when I've had neon hair. I don't dress particularly unusually, I'm quiet and mind my business. I'm obviously not SURE that's why, but it was the only difference between me and any other 22 year old woman in the store.
The Grandpa scene...gross. I feel like an adult man writing a book where a teenage girl feels obligated to kiss a random man and chooses a fucking grandpa obviously has some fantasy and/or a very poor understanding of teenage girls, and tried to cover it up with a shitty attempt at a heartwarming story. Gag.
you can always tell when a male is the one writing for some reason. ive read a lot of books written by males and only like 2 or 3 have actually created a teen female character that doesnt run and cry into their friends arms after a big fight, only care about boys, overreact to EVERYTHING, and/or say things like OMG LOL or any other text speak out loud. It's almost like they have a little check list for what they think teen girls act like. And it kinda sucks because in their book there are all of these amazing male characters with PERSONALITIES (things that teen girl characters never get) and then the female character is introduced and its like DID ALL OF YOU TALENT OF WRITING CHARACTERS JUST LIKE FUCK OFF OUT THE WINDOW OR SOMETHING?????
Yeah all though in a lot of forms of media they put girls like that anyway like in movies, and tv shows ect. I hate the way that girls are there's no real personality with any girls that I've seen in social media so I chose not to watch/read it if I know it's gonna be like that. (btw this part of the comment is for anyone to read to give me recommended books of a girl who doesn't want to get married or have kids i.e something that actually relates to me and where there's no romance just cause I really wouldn't know what to ask to the library or at least tell me what to ask. yes I'm new but I want to check out a good book.)
it has a lowkey rlly good idea for the story and could be done as a "kids screwing around during summertime and enjoying their life" kinda books, but ehhh
Dude I started to ‘have a rough time’ with YA when I was like 16 or 17 so I moved onto stuff written for adults, old classics, cult phenomenons and just left YA behind it was the best thing I ever did tbh
I'm only at the beginning of the video. Just saying, that I actually had people tell me flat out, that they found me really boring, because I never did anything new... and those people were my only "friends" back then. So yeah ,that's a shitty thing, but it is a thing.
Well, according to my "friends" not even my looks were a redeeming quality... Even though, when I look back at the photos I was actually pretty cute :D Well, I'm not sure if they ever said all that out loud. A lot was trash talking behind my back or hinting at it with laughter and comments. But they definitly told me the stuff I wrote in the first comment to my face. Puberty was such a great time... I agree with you that it is rahter strange and painful. I was hoping a little, that the story line would be about the main character developing new, healthy friendships and realizing that her ex and her "best friend" are dickheads. Then the book could also handle the pain, that is caused by realizing those closest to you hurt you, despite the fact that you are better off without them. Now, THAT would have been a great book for insecure teenage girls with shitty friends and no selfworth. Not staying in that sort of toxic "friendship" after "crying it out" (The fuck? I'm a bit worried about this guy's daughter now.) The basic concept of a person doing things differently for 90 days sounds like it could actually make for an interesting story with a lot of character growth. Too bad that's not what happened.
I really don't think a grown man should be writing about teen girls. I mean, do whatever you want, but I don't understand how that'd be something a man would be interested in writing about or would have any experience to draw upon to make it realistic or interesting. I just.. don't understand why he wouldn't write about something that is relatable to him unless he was trying to make money off of YA stuff just bc it's probably easier. whatever though, go off.
There’s also this leery feeling about teaching girls how to be...that is frequent in male writers writing female characters where they’re clearly a stack of traits and stereotypes instead of a character.
I just found your channel and love it. I hate when male authors write about women and just showcase how poorly they actually view us, I got secondhand offended just by your review of his words.
Houx Parkinson Although I haven’t read this book and I imagine that the author did a terrible job of conveying the perspective of a woman given this video and the comments, I can’t get behind what you say. Sure there are many men that just don’t get women, but there are many men that do and try to at least. I do think that if we are going to venture on writing on the opposite gender’s perspective, they should consult the women in their lives if it helps. And besides if we are going to continue with the absurdity of that comment, then it can be also be said and argued that women shouldn’t write from the perspective of boys and men. Imagine if that would have happened, then we wouldn’t have had JK Rowling write the Harry Potter series, etc.
Casey Aonso I see what you mean, and it’s something that is just makes for terrible literature. The same goes for female authors in this day as well when it comes to writing about men. The best example of the top of my mind is the Twilight series. We need to communicate more people! Given that in our age of mass media, we have forgotten to do some of the most basic things. Sorry, I’m delving too much into it... but yeah I agree.
I'm not saying that I condemn any writing with the POV of another gender, I'm very with the gender fluid movement, and believe things are more than ever open, but writers, or people in general who write or speak with a petulant outlook on traditional gender roles need to be called out. - Write in a sense that you are compelled in, meaning, if you are compelled to a woman's POV (which people are) do so, but do not sell a novel saturated with low-key misogynistic views...
Houx Parkinson there's absolutely nothing wrong with a man wanting to write about a woman's pov, especially if he he makes an effort to understand such a pov...you don't have to dictate what some can or cannot do.There have been plenty of male authors who have portrayed female characters very well.I doubt you would be happy if you heard someone saying that women shouldn't try writing from a man's pov, seeing how a huge amount of female authors have done so,some of them similarly doing terribly at it and others being very good at it.
I really have issues when adults (specifically ones that are a lot older) write about teenagers, because it really almost seems very juvenile in writing just because of the way the teenagers talk. Like nah nuh boo boo, we don't talk in text speak lmao
This is such a shame.. For a good example of a man writing from a (relatively) young girl’s perspective, check out Invisible Monsters by Chuck Palahniuk! It will forever be one of my favorites
I remember Eric Walters coming to my elementary school to talk about his writing process/where he travelled when writing a new book. He was really funny and managed to keep everyone entertained the entire time. He mainly writes action/adventure novels, so this one was was definitely out of his comfort zone I guess
I'm sorry but I have to imagine the daughter making shit up, like "when you've been broken up with, most plausible case scenario is, you're trending on social media" and being bewildered that her dad got published.
when she started talking about how people don't talk about break-ups on social media, I was like, "wow the valley is officially trying to be a YA book" I kid you not these people who I went to school with were talking about how their crush had finally dumped their girlfriend and that they wanted to get with them, like shit was WILD
Yay I love rant reviews. But I've never heard of that book! And I don't think I'm ever going to pick it up ha! One a positive what's ur fave or top 3 books??
Eric Walters is such a shitty writer, but since he’s a “famous” Canadian writer all my English teachers salivate over him. I guess it’s because I live in Canada and they want us to support him? I actually hated this book so much and I’m done with his writing.

I totally getcha! :D do you ever read some F scott or oscar wilde (just to name a couple)?? There's some incredible story lines out there and the writing is just beautiful and so meaningful :)
eric walters used to write really good and exciting adventure/suspense novels and then within the last 5 years he decided it was time to switch to crappy YA
I'm sure this is a book written by someone who doesn't read YA and doesn't respect it as a category of books. Most likely, he thought it would be easiest to write YA. A lot of bad YA is written by people who just wanted to get something published and thought YA would be easy.
laurenbeauty wym? Her voice sounds normal to me. It changes pitch every now and then. Some people's voices just sound like that, there's nothing they can do.
So many books about teen girls have the overall condescending tone with a narrator being the authors stereotype of a “good girl” and it’s an annoyance
idk sounds accurate to me. once my best friend stabbed me in the leg with a steak knife and broke my TV, and I was SUPER mad, but then we both cried and hugged it out the next day so we're cool now
Srysly?
Me and my BobbyGee yes totally hee hee
@@caseyaonso4270 yeah, this things happen irl ya know 😔✋🏼
i hate when i can tell the author's age by how they write. at least do your research on something as popular as instagram. you look absolutely gorgeous btw
those “teen text terminology” charts widely spread on facebook by soccer moms that makes literally no sense. that’s was this book is.
NO I THOUGHT I ESCAPED THOSE
My mouth was just hanging open when you said about the scene where she kisses an old man.
This book is the definition of cringe. The author's daughter should have told him to quite while he was behind.
"hello, im a teenage girl. i like boys. tee hee! but i will totes wait till marriage. lol."
Sort of how I imagined this author believes teen girls act. XD
I'm dying!! This comment could be a review of so many bad books by itself, honestly 😂
Well at least he thinks better than my Dad and Grandparents
Sounds like it's definitely written by a dad. No one has ever suspected me of stealing because I have weird hair colors lol
Oh my god, bursting into tears and running into each other's arms??? Is he basing all of his ideas about young women on anime characters?????
you can always tell when a male is the one writing for some reason. ive read a lot of books written by males and only like 2 or 3 have actually created a teen female character that doesnt run and cry into their friends arms after a big fight, only care about boys, overreact to EVERYTHING, and/or say things like OMG LOL or any other text speak out loud. Ok I dunno what you read, but I can easily name ten example of teen girls from guy author that aren't what you described.
I say lol....
^^^ oh nevermind, I don’t say it out loud, I just use it in text lol
it has a lowkey rlly good idea for the story and could be done as a "kids screwing around during summertime and enjoying their life" kinda books, but ehhh
nico nico nii
heww yeah man nico nico nii!
Dude I started to ‘have a rough time’ with YA when I was like 16 or 17 so I moved onto stuff written for adults, old classics, cult phenomenons and just left YA behind it was the best thing I ever did tbh
I saw the whole "you're so predictable, you're boring" thing in a Hallmark movie recently.
Plot twist: Ella is in love with Sophie.
I'm only at the beginning of the video. Just saying, that I actually had people tell me flat out, that they found me really boring, because I never did anything new... and those people were my only "friends" back then. So yeah ,that's a shitty thing, but it is a thing.

Let's hope a better writer takes to this and makes a good story out of it^^
RyfkahChan I feel your pain man. In middle school the shitheads I used to hang out with called me boring on the daily.
Sounds like some loveable folks. You doing better now?
yeah, i know the feeling. in like third grade my "friends" started running away and hiding from me because i was boring and clingy.
so basically its the whole "dads writing how they think kids talk like"
*dies her hair purple* now its real stupid
I really don't think a grown man should be writing about teen girls. John Green.
Casey Aonso But John Green
Chazo Anwah yeaaah

my name is ella and my sister is named sophie i choked
Your set up is sooo aesthetically pleasing
first of all, a girl shouldn't live her life based on something a guy told her, let alone anyone.
Granny perfume I died 😂 don’t disrespect the channel N5
This is such a shame.. For a good example of a man writing from a (relatively) young girl’s perspective, check out Invisible Monsters by Chuck Palahniuk! It will forever be one of my favorites

i just found you but omg you look gorgeous and this rant was amazing
(plus i love your background, it's so soothing)
I'm sorry but I have to imagine the daughter making shit up, like "when you've been broken up with, most plausible case scenario is, you're trending on social media" and being bewildered that her dad got published.

Damn sis I wish I had that much tea all the time
Yay I love rant reviews. But I've never heard of that book! And I don't think I'm ever going to pick it up ha! One a positive what's ur fave or top 3 books??
This is kind of random but your skin looks amazing and glowing
Ok but Chanel No5 is a timeless classic, not a grandma perfume
It's funny that your "break out video" if you will, is for such a niche book.
The only time you'll ever hear about a high school breakup on social media is through someone's snap story. That's it.
he should’ve pretended he got no help from his daughter because it sure sounds like he didn’t.
very entertaining and specific rant review. you got a new follower!
"I wear granny perfume" OMG HAahhaahah
I’ve seen 2 videos of u and I’m already in love, subscribing rn ❤️ Btw you’re so pretty 💕
Found your channel yesterday and I love your reviews, I'd love to know your thoughts on 'Fangirl' by Rainbow Rowell
Casey Aonso For me it is a love/hate relationship with that book.. It needs a rant review by you
Being called Sofie and unused to hearing someone say my name in a video gave me a really weird feeling while watching this video.
i love your lipstick
I've been looking for a lipstick with that color forever!
I go to a small town school so low-key they have nothing to do but gossip on social media
Your reviews aren't over the top on purpose. You're very chill. It doesn't feel like you're yelling at me for 15 minutes
Eric Walters is such a shitty writer, but since he’s a “famous” Canadian writer all my English teachers salivate over him. I guess it’s because I live in Canada and they want us to support him? I actually hated this book so much and I’m done with his writing.
I just found your channel and I love it! Feeling inspired :)
Have you ever read anything by Marie Lu? I’ve read both of her book series, and I think that she has good ideas, doesn’t execute them that well, and then writes a crap ending after getting you to read three WHOLE books. Kinda random, but I just wanted to know your opinion.
Hey Casey, great video. What was the site you used to find the book? I thought you said 'at chapters', but couldnt find it on a google search.
Ah that makes sense :D. Keep up the great content.
I CAN'T EVEN PUT ATTENTION ON WHAT YOU'RE SAYING, GUUUUUURL WHAT HIGHLIGHT ARE YOU WEARING?!?!??!
A true icon on this platform
Can you review Chasing Red please?
Yesssssss
oh my goodness
love your makeup!
i had to read this book for school (idk my english teacher is weird) my least favourite part of the book is how her friend treated her. they make ella out to be a really great friend but she is so rude to sophie. their friendship is so fucking toxic and fake. they kind of normalize this abusive relationship to teens reading it. also sophie is supposed to be not at all adventurous and boring. but like, , , she’s doing all of the differents and not complaining ,,, and like shes pretty adventurous. this is another case of the author trying to make a character a certain way, but the character doesn’t act like it. i hate this book.
the author visited my school once
Casey Aonso yeah basically
he seems so weird. I feel that he doesn’t understand the teenage world but still makes a book of it.
I've met him as well, I used to work at a bookstore and he came in to sign copies of his books. He's actually written over 90 books and has won lots of awards for his books, mostly middle grade stories aimed at boys, like Camp X. He definitely went out of his typical demographic for this, maybe that contributed to it being contrived.
Casey Aonso I think some people can make it work. Just look at John green in the fault in our stars.
Billie Bitch are you crazy? The characters in that book live in some alternative universe just based on the dialogue. No one talks that way lol
You should read To No End by Gabrielle Wieck! It’s.. interesting 😅
I honestly feel like the grandpa scene was heartwarminhg but that's just me
I honestly dont even know how i came across your channel cuz i didn’t even watch book rant reviews before.. but i guess one of your videos came up on my recommended and now ive watched all of your book rant videos lmao. I just love the way you rant about things, the way you organize your thoughts is more interesting than what the book itself is about(if that makes any sense lol). Anyway, your videos are great lol keep up the good work
Also you make me wanna read books now haha you even inspired me to start a book club with my friends during summer break
this is the first video I saw of you lol and I'm subscribing
You should rename your channel 'Rant Reviews' haha. I love you so much.
i love the youtube recommendations after this lol
how did i get here though lol
basically all "i hate this book/worst book ever"
I'm so sick and tired to see that kind of book everywhere where male writers don't know shit about how women or girl think like it's the same thing over and over again...
Tbh, i'm at a point i don't want to read books anymore cause everytime, female characters are eiter dumb, superficial, sensitive, weak or think about love and kids all the time etc... and it's tiring..
btw, your skin is life! So glowy!! 😭
can you read and review “the sun is also a star” by nicola yoon?
mhrmghm all of my friends like Eric Walters and I'm like 'why'
Older people writing YA books is usually bad news....
Can you review Chasing Red by Isabel Ronin
This is the second video I've watched, quick question do you read *good* books? 😂
im so late to this convo but im screamingggg cus i have such a love/hate relationship with hush hush. its my dirty little secret. i wrote about it for my pop culture english class in cc and i got an award LMAO. its like that one ex you think about from time to time and giggle about.
Is this book called “30 days of different” or “90 days of different?”
Casey Aonso gotcha!! Thanks 💕
When dialogue is totally unrealistic ***cringe***
It sounds pretty bad but also like something that I could have enjoyed when I was little, so conflicted haha
what actually compels a man to write in a teenager girl's perspective
You forgot to mention the absolutely awful fast food different. She was literally so rude to customers and employees and was REWARDED for it!? THANKED even? Everyone passed it off like it was completely okay. The book implied that basically, you shouldn't be responsible and you can be rewarded for doing absolutely awful things. She did completely illegal things in this book and was just passed off with absolutely no consequences.
I wish I had your sassy attitude lmao
Read The Selection!
It’s a book book. There’s a series. It’s from Kiera Cass.
was just wondering if u only do book reviews on teen novels? cos if u do it's not much of a surprise that ur ranting about the low quality of books in every single video 😹😹
I totally getcha! :D do you ever read some F scott or oscar wilde (just to name a couple)?? There's some incredible story lines out there and the writing is just beautiful and so meaningful :)
XD tuxedo nails
eric walters used to write really good and exciting adventure/suspense novels and then within the last 5 years he decided it was time to switch to crappy YA
I.... the main girl has my name and I hate it
oh my god, I’ve met Eric Walters at my school when I was like 12
I'm sure this is a book written by someone who doesn't read YA and doesn't respect it as a category of books. Most likely, he thought it would be easiest to write YA. A lot of bad YA is written by people who just wanted to get something published and thought YA would be easy.
Bruh, all I could think about was "You are boring! B-O-R-I-N-I-N-G!"
Lmao my name is Sophie, I don't go on social media, and I am boring as fuck. This is me.
Those unrealistic dialogs are killing my brain cells
LMAOO I WAS WEAAAAAK
Sorry if you explained this is the video but isn't the tile, ``90 Days Of Different``.
the fact that i’m reading this trash in 2020 😔 kinda wish it turned gay cuz it would’ve been so much better
sounds like a really awful book, definitely won't be picking it up lol
Umm my year group talks about people breaking up

I mean we're almost halfway through the year its not that early
12 months in a year, just about to hit the 4th month, half of 12 is 6, 2 months to being half of 12 hence why i said almost.

This is old but you say “picture” like “pitcher” sorry I had to
your voice is incredibly monotone. try to be WAY more enthusiastic!
laurenbeauty wym? Her voice sounds normal to me. It changes pitch every now and then. Some people's voices just sound like that, there's nothing they can do.
