clothesencounters I recommend a book called "Games are for Real" written by Estonian writer Diana Leesalu but I'm not sure if you can get this book easily :/ But it is an amazing book. Very sensitive story about being bullied and so on.

That BOOK is SO freakin good 🥺
@@kodajean3743 do you recommend it? i’ve been wondering about reading it
To Kill a Mockingbird, must-read for all ages.
kaminari_denki you have to get through the start to actually enjoy it. At first it may be boring but you get into it at the end
The book is good. Not in my top 10 but definitely a must read if you enjoy reading.
@Rachel Wilson

Just finished reading it and it is something everybody should read before they die 😍
I love that book
i used to read books a LOT, i always mentioned how much i love reading. i collected fiction novels from grade school to high school and i could finish two-three books per week. yet after becoming a college student i just don't read books at all :/ i mean, i do read a lot of free stories online like the ones on wattpad but that's it.
i miss reading books tho--legit books. i forced myself to buy and read few of them but i just kinda gave up halfway. they seemed interesting but i just couldn't bring myself to finish them and i feel so bad 😭
abelsmile sameeee
abelsmile omg same! 🤤😱
YOU JUST DESCRIBED MY LIFE NOW
You should try reading one of your favorite books! That might help you get back into it.
Yes some nice tips to keep reading as a habit is by rereading your favourite book! For me, I told myself i would read a book (or 2, 1 big novel and one small novel) a month so that i have a schedule. It seems a bit forced but I know that otherwise, i wouldn't do it. I've managed to go through the huge pile of books that I've been collecting (or hoarding if u must) in the past 6 months and i've never felt happier both by incorporating reading back into my life and by flying through my pile!
1984 was such a depressing book. It was well written, but I just wasn't expecting the ending. I felt that it truly showed the flawed nature of human character, but it sent a powerful, bone chilling message; we must fight back and stay strong.... because cowardice is the greatest sin of all.
DarkRuins what a great description ... that book had me shooketh when I read it
Darmarukomi
Mmkmisdjducnusjnudnsdjmu
+DarkRuins It was very depressing. But I think it also showed that we're all humans. The fact that Winston chose to give in just to continue living shows that he is human. It is in our nature to survive no matter the cost. I probably would have chosen differently, but hey. When in a dystopian world....
1984 has a secret happy ending when you read the appendix after the main story. It talks about New Speak and the other stuff in the past tense, implying that the government was eventually overthrown. Very similar to the end of the Handmaid’s Tale.
It's also teaching you not to ignore politics, because whether we like it or not, it is effecting us deep down in some way or form...Orwell created this book as a warning, and for all of us to be aware.
that awesome moment when you finished reading a really good book and you see it at a store then you cunningly smile at it as if you had an affair with it
1984 is the best book ever its the one that got me into reading..
Why ?? What are thé reasons ??
I LOVE when you talk about books, I love that you recommend classic books because sometimes people assume that classic means boring and that's totally not true, thanks!
Some of my favourite books are:
1. A Thousand Splendid Suns - Khalid Hosseini
2. The Kite Runner - Khalid Hosseini
3. Eleven Minutes - Paolo Coelho
4. The Alchemist - Paolo Coelho
(LOVE them, highly recommend!!!)
Ariba Ali Khaled Hosseini is everything
OMG two of my favourtie authors! I like your taste 😁
Also, you should really read And the Mountains Echoed by Hosseini. I'm sure you'll love it, too. That is, if you haven't.
I love these books too!
Veronica Salvaña I read that! It was a good book but took me longer to get into than his other two books
The Song of Achilles is a must-read.
I love "the perks of being a wallflower" that book came into my life during a very hard time in high school, and it made me feel like I wasn't alone. It's that type of book for me, I hold it very near my heart.
I´d highly recommend The kite runner by Khaled Hosseini!
Love that book!
i would love to read that book! thanks for the recommendation :)
If you like that author, you should try out A Thousand Splendid Suns!
howloudcansilenceget I love that book I just finished it for school. I recommend too
howloudcansilenceget that book had me so shook
You're honestly hands down one of my fav youtubers. Everything about you is so real and I love that you do youtube for all the right reasons. You never let all the fame from youtube change who you are truly. Love you Jenn. I'm proud that I been here since when you and sarah thrifting days. If you see this please respond lol. xoxo
Aww thank you for the support! It means the world to me.
I love her passion for books. This is so amazing to see content on something that’s not always common. This list seems so good and I can’t wait to read these books. Definitely subscribing :)
Love the vibe and editing of this video! I know you're not a book youtuber, but this video felt so refreshing. Most book youtubers can get so boring.
you are honestly such a breadth of fresh air!!! i feel like youtube and this generation in general has been too focused on the tangible. it's nice to know that there are still people that care on a much deeper level. this sounds hella pretentious lol but i hope my appreciation and respect for you can be conveyed. 💜💜
Aww this comment means a lot to me. Thank you so much!
Love her attitude as well! ❤
Do a top 10 favorite movies/tv shows!
Kristina Mowatt comment commended!
movies one plsssss
My favorite book of all time is the Little Prince, this book changed my life, I read it a 100 times, it will remind you about the simplicity of childhood, it's a short story, you'll never regret reading it.
Oh yes, We read this story this school year and I liked it.
Plz can you tell where to buy it
@@bhakabandhusethy2060 Well I'd say its available in any library, or any website like amazone
Ugh yes this book touched my heart
Please make another video like this ( Books you need to read pt.2 )!! I really love your recommendations and the way you introduce them, I actually read them all since I watched this video. So please, make another video about books!!! Love you so much, Jenn!! ❤️
Oh my days! I just purchased "the perks of being a wallflower" 🤗🤗 another good read is The Alchemist. Def a recommendation
Cherisha Etnel yeassssss the Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. it's a must read for me as well 😊
i have been meaning to read the alchemist! thanks so much for the recommendation :)
Cherisha Etnel yes! The Alchemist!
I love the Alchemist!
I knew Kafka on The Shore would be there haha ! I remember you recommending it like years ago
The OGs already know.
can't wait to read it! it looks so good :)
same!
englandlover08 heard great things about Kafka in the Shore but I wanted to get to IQ84 first (since it's already on my shelves)
me too! i read it when she first recommended it and now its one of my faves too!
I'm smilling the whole time, it's just so great to see someone talking and describing their fav books to you.
I'm subscribing to you because of this video! I also read The Perks of Being a Wallflower around when I was 14/15 and the other books are just my favs. I'm going to watch some of your other videos and reread these books. Please make more of these!
Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro - if you haven't read it already! It's a dystopian science fiction novel. I think you'll love it!
Ooooh, thanks for the rec! n_n
seconded -- this book will be right up your alley Jenn!
The Uglies series by Scott Westerfeld!! He was my saving grace author in middle and high school, and creates such vivid scenes and realities for the characters he creates. Another awesome series by him is the Midnighters (I think, can't remember it exactly!) they're both sort of dystopian, si-fi, genres and absolutely amazing!
OMG I LOVE THAT SERIES
It is dystopian
Yea I’ve read uglies the first book, I really recommend
SUCH a good series! The Uglies series was my absolute favourite set of books for a couple years. Read them in seventh grade, but I still adore them. I’m pretty sure I’ve read the first one four times lol
This is the first video I've seen of a youtuber giving their list of favourite books that has actually inspired me to seek out these titles. The way you describe the synopsis of each book is done with so much enthusiasm and you're more articulate than some other booktubers I've seen. It's not surprising you have millions of subscribers.
you mentioned 5 of my favorite books!!! please do another vid on fantasy/sci-fi/dystopian!
One of my favorite books is Nella Larsen's 'Passing"
The book revolves around the experience of being half black/half white in 1920s New York when there was still segregation (and obviously deep racism). The story is about two women who are both biracial. One of them lives as a black woman and the other "passes" as white. The second woman even marries a white guy who has no idea she is half black. The book was extremely seminal to me as I am also biracial and could relate to the issues presented about how race is a societal invention that is meant to categorize and divide humans. It brought to light the notion of racial fluidity and the struggles of internal identity that mixed race people face.
I feel like I should also warn that the book has a sad ending :(
But definitely worth reading. It's also really short so you can read it in a day!
This book sounds powerful! Added to the list. Thanks for your rec!
I love how excited she is talking about books. I totally get you! Thank you for such an amazing and diverse list of book recommendations.
I just finished The Wind up Bird Chronicle. And it is now officially my favorite book. And Murakami is my favorite author, I just love the philosophical aspect of his books! I really recommend them
I just finished studying and you came with a feast for my nearly dead brain 💕💕💕 you're a life saver, Jenn. I really hope one day I can meet up😊💕 a must before I die
Ahh! It's time to relax now! Also I hope we meet one day too. (:
🚨"A Thousand Splendid Suns" is a MUST READ🚨
Offiong Ekanem MY FAV BOOK TO THIS DAY
Offiong Ekanem that's also one of my favorite books too! I was assigned that reading but I finished the book in one day because I was so into the story!
i legit was hoping that the book would be on her list but I'm glad im not the only one that loves it. honestly, my favorite book of all time.
Offiong Ekanem FAVE BOOK OF ALL TIME
Never agreed more on a comment before!
Great video, I also suggest reading The Little Prince, it's an amazing little story and a timeless classic.
Came for jenn's book recommendations but love how everyone in the comment section is throwing out their faves too 💜💜
you're so well spoken Jenn. it's so fascinating listening to you summarize these novels; definitely going to have to add them to my must read list! (:
charismatickay l
you read my mind, exactly how i felt after watching this video
More books videos please 😊😊
Thank you so much Jenn ! I went back to this video for my first high school book report, and I can't wait to read all of these books for school and whenever I have time to spend !!!
The Five People You Meet In Heaven is such a beautiful story! One of my favorites for sure
How do you do that Jen? How do you manage to read while socializing, while hanging out with friends and your boyfriend, visiting your parents and flying all over the world as well as filming, editing and socializing with fans? I'm so fascinated that you even manage to read all the time. I'm only attending university and am doing almost the things that you do, but i can't manage to find time to read otherwise i would be lacking of sleep or time for anything else...
Joey Cheng i find that the best way to read if you're very busy is by taking a book with you everywhere u go! So if you have to wait for someone or if ur in the bus or even in a plane u can read! Most of my reading happened in a car or a bus lol
High IQ. High IQ is all you need.
Time management
Jolie Rouge Idk, I just dislike you already.
No One dafuq , why?
AND YES PLEASE DO MORE OF THESE BOOKs videos IM SURE ALL OF US WANT MORE
I love the way you describe the books and summarize the novels. You use sophisticated words and your mindset and phrases are just so perfect!!!
Murakami is one of my favorite writers, probably the One if I had to chose. I love Kafka on the shore!
Oh and highly recommended, of course: 1984, The Handmaid's Tale, The perks of being a wallflower and The picture of Dorian Gray!
Thanks for all the suggestions btw, great video!
The moment you realise after watching this video that 7 out of 10 mentioned books are on your 'TOP EVER" list 💓💓 also thanks for these 3 more:) Now I need to add them to 'to read list' for this year:) I challenged myself to read 52 books in 2017 and I'm currently on 30. so.. wish me luck 😊
good luck! just 22 books more!
A favourite book I have read this year has been Wild Swans by Jung Chang. The narrator takes you through her three generations of her family history from her grandmother, mother to herself in the backdrop of a changing China. Not only was it eye opening to discover Chinese history but it was so heart breaking to hear about some of the things that actually happened. ALSO TY FOR MAKING THIS VIDEO, I added sooo many books to read after going through the comments and your list :))) Love you Jenn
Jessica Liu i'm not Jen lol but I feel like I'll give the book a try, thanks 💖
I love how you talk about things and smile, such a pretty smile.
Honestly none of these sound interesting to me but I love how excited you seem to be about them!
One of my favorites is "Farenheit 451" which is about a world in which reading and knowledge are prohibited and it follows a man who is awoken to how good knowledge is when he meets a young girl and his journey through rebelling against the laws.
Gabriela Munoz i read that book, and loved it. It's scary bc that world is so close to being ours ...
Gabriela Munoz I absolutely love this book
Gabriela Munoz same, and Lord of the Flies. Both school books for me.
had to read that for school.. HATED IT 😂
You should do a full book collection video!
I wanted to swing by and say it’s been three years. And I’ve been busy and I’ve been a whole lot of things, but I finished them all. Thank you, Jenn. Sending all the love.
I have NEVER heard anyone talk about The Picture of Dorian Gray! I absolutely love that book! Oscar Wilde is such a genius.
me neither but my dad recommended it to me lol
In a world where we go through more memes than books each day - thanks for sharing your literary side with us Jenn! Been waiting for this for a while, very inspired and I'm sure I'm not the only one! PS. do the sci-fi video ;)
Aww I'm glad you appreciated this video!
such a great comment! we need to be reading more books :)
top 10 albums please! 💿💁
Lee YES PLEASE
yes yes yessss
So many of the books are also my fav books of all time. Loved this video 👍🏻
I recommend "Brave New World" = for dystopian lovers out there
and "Everyday" = just.beautiful.
Jenn, I met you my freshman year in high school at a meet up in Davis. Now I am going to UC Davis this fall as a freshman!!!
Lizzy Gilligan Congratulations on your acceptance!
Congrats on your acceptance! I go to uc davis and I love it here
Lizzy Gilligan that's amazing!! Davis is a fantastic school. Have fun on picnic day lol :)
Thank you!
omg I am going to UC Davis this fall as well! As an exchange student from korea tho haha
the glass castle - jeanette walls
it's a memoir about a girl and her family who chooses to live like they are homeless
julzgoesrawrx3 yaaas I love that book!
I love that memoir!!!!
I just recently read that book and it was so good. It's definitely one of my favourites. 😄😄
Yesss I was just about to recommend this book. It was so amazing and heart touching
Its fun watching you explain every book with so much passion and yes with a smile on your face. Keep smiling
Jenn this is amazing! I am always uncertain about what books to read and to devote my time to, but this helps a lot! Thanks, and I would love to see another book favorites video!!
You should definitely read "Never Let Me Go" by Kazuo Ishiguro 😊
It is hands down one of my favourite books and it's the perfect balance between dystopian and heart warming. I think you'll love it ❤️
Vicky Chen I looove that book!
I've read this and I love it so much!
Did that get turned into a movie? I think I saw a movie with that name a while ago
Yes it did! Haven't seen it though
" perfect balance between dystopian and heart warming"
You spelled heart breaking incorrectly... :(
I don't read books that often but I want to from time to time and for sure will look up to these books if ever I decided to read again. Thanks, Jenn 💖
it's almost a year, Jenn, we need some new book recommendations now
7:00 this sounds exactly like that netflix serie ‘Élite’ jajaja
Fr for a second I was like I swear I've read that 😂
Read the Bonesetter's Daughter by Amy Tan! It's follows the journey of Asian-American women, and particularly of a struggling young Chinese girl. It's really an eye-opener and definitely worth a read! I hope you read it~ Love you Jenn :)
Wow! Sounds interesting. Will have to check it out!
clothesencounters ahh!! Yay! I hope you enjoy it! :) thanks for replying! I watch all your videos, you're such an inspiration 😭❤️ I love you!!
so glad someone recommended a book by Amy Tan! The woman who inspired me to write! :)
Kyoko Hall HI KYOKO!!!! FOUND YOUR COMMENT 😂😂❤️
Lilly Marino OMG HEY!!! 😂😂💖
1. Harry Potter series (it has been my childhood favorite)
2. The Great Gatsby - the writing is beautiful! I've read it 3 times just because I'm in love with the writing
3. Till We Have Faces - Cupid and Psyche's love story through her sister's (Orual) perspective. The writing is pretty and there's a lot to learn from someone who is considered an ugly and flawed human compared to her beautiful sister and the godly being Cupid
4. Howl's Moving Castle - so much fun with all the characters
Howl's Moving Castle - love that you included that one! I rarely meet people who have read it :(
Omg Tayeon. Kskslsl
Howl's Moving Castle is beautiful! I loved that book so much
I love The Great Gatsby so much
i know this is very late but i didnt know howls moving castle was also a book besides the movie :D i really wanna get it now :D
Omg you mentioned some of my favorite books!!! As well as my all time favorite The Picture of Dorian Gray! I also love the perks of being a wallflower and the 5 people you meet in heaven
It would be great to see you do one (or hopefully more) on specific genres! :D Loved this
I love The Catcher in the Rye! It's such a unique Bildungsroman/coming of age story. Definitely had an impact on me, although I know it's very hit or miss with a lot of people.
I also loved We Were Liars. That book absolutely destroyed me - I've never been hit so hard by a price of writing. An incredible story about family and love and finding yourself.
Thank you for this video Jenn! It was very refreshing :)
I'd have to agree with Catcher In The Rye. It's really a mix of character pieces strewn together to tell a story. At first read, people don't understand Holden's train of thought, but after reading it with a critical and analytical brain, it's an earnest narrative. There's so much powerful symbolism in this book that it garnered me to go to NYC when I was 18 and through this book I fell in love with that city.
TheSlurpy11 absolutely love the catcher In the rye, planning to re read this summer. I cried at the end despite it not being overly sad or emotional 😂
I trust you so much when it comes down to literature or really anything. I don't know why but I feel like I know you, maybe it's because your videos are so intimate and raw. I applaud you for being so open on the internet and letting us into your life and creating this huge virtual friendship/family. That being said, love you Jenn! You're gonna make me waste so much money now on books and fashion lol xx
Thank you, Jenn. Thank you ❤️ reading Mitch Albom's book was the best way I could say goodbye to 2019 and welcome the next year with a hole new perspective of life and what is beyond our sight. Thank you. ❤️
I love the way you describe the novels with so much detail and depth! You are so well spoken and have amazing taste. Also you're so gorgeous, your makeup is perfect in every video howww!
Please do more! I really love it when you reccommend books now that I have a kindle account as well! I have finally gotten back to reading books and I'm so happy about it so more recs would be amazing!
Jenn, thank you so much for doing this! I feel like people nowadays don't read enough and you're one of the very few beauty/fashion youtubers out there that encourage the younger generation to read! There's so much pleasure to be found in reading but because of the increased access to social media platforms some people seem to have neglected books altogether. Thank you so much for advocating and encouraging more people to pick up a book and read!! Love you!!
I finally read “The Picture of Dorian Gray” because of you :) can’t wait to see what the next book I read is
Pls do more videos like this Jenn!!
LOVE YOUR TASTE and your way of introducing them!
Αh thank you so much for this jenn, just in time for summer reading time!💜
Eep! Of course! Hope these recs are helpful!
i was thinking the same thing! definitely going to be on my summer reading list :)
You have to check out "The lies of locke lamora". For me at least, his style of writing is orgasmic. I just can't resist the storyline and characters :))))))
Rain Drops what is the story about?
Rain Drops I'm listening and reading to this now. Hilarious. ☺️
I know this is not a book reccomendations but there is a tv show called 3% on netflix. it talks about a dystopian world in which once you reach of age you can go through the process. the top 3% makes it through the process and can escape the inland (full of poverty) and go to the off shore in which is supposed to be amazing. its really good and i def reccomend this
angiebunii second this ! The story is very interesting, even though you can see its kinda on a low budget
angiebunii I really liked this show - I would definitely recommend watching it in its original Portuguese to get the full feeling (with subtitles obviously). Also The Cable Girls (watch in Spanish) is a really thought provoking and fun programme about working girls in 1920s Madrid
Checking this out on Netflix! :)
I LOVE that show!! i watched it all in a day haha
Ana Karina Me too haha
I am so carried away by your beauty throughout the video. I love all the books you mentioned. Thank you.
So happy The Secret History was on your list! One of my favorites too, and I haven't met many others (at least near my age) that have also read it, so happy to see someone else has!
Another book countdown for sureeee! I enjoyed so much and cant wait to try reading all your recommended books!
It's insane how she doesn't have more subscribers - anyone else agree?
i agree! her channel is one of my favourites :)
Christina Marie wait, when she mentioned Marzia, did she mean Pewdiepie's gf? Probably not.
Kiley Faun yes, she meant pewdiepie's girlfriend! they're friends :)
THANK YOU FOR THE LIST! Was looking for some books to read and the list you compiled is very well done!
You have an amazing taste in books! So diverse! And how you summarize the story made me want to read them. Thank you for your recommendation.
This is really really old fashioned but my favourites are The Secret Garden and Anne of Green Gables. Both are stories about true love that you have for friends, self acceptance, having a lush imagination and learning to love life. Incredible books which made a huge impact on me. The movies are nowhere near as good as the books, especially The Secret Garden.
Lily201186 I really really enjoyed the secret garden!
Lily201186 QA
Lily201186 I loved the secret Garden!
Absolute 2 fav books I always recommend to people are The Book Thief and All the Light We Cannot See. They're both in fact set in WW2, but not your standard war stories because they revolve around children!
The book thief is told from the perspective of death, and all the light has an amazing storyline that is woven so well and it's so difficult to put down. These are the reasons why they're my absolute fav of aaalllll time I hope you get the chance to read them 😊
Jovyne Chua omg the book thief 😭😭😭💗 my favourite book. Haven’t read All the Light will check it out, thanks
These books are my absolute favourites!!! 😭😭
I'm studying literature at uni and even I have reading slumps so I come back to this video for inspiration and your passion spurs me back towards my books!
Ahhh East of Eden... Kathy is the BEST unlikable character everr! I loved it! One of my favorite book. Great video!
I really recommend you to read books written by women of color: Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is a good start. Her collection of short stories "The Thing Around Your Neck" is just impeccably poignant. Isabel Allende's "The House of Spirit" is also my absolute favorite, just don't go near the movie adaptation. For a non-fiction read, I suggest an investigation journalism by Jenny Nordberg "The Underground Girls of Kabul". Nordberg is not a woman of color, but her story does full justice to what Afghani girls have undergone in their life. Xx
Adya Nisita piggybacking off of this, since you mentioned loving sci-fi, octavia butler wrote really incredible sci-fi novels & short stories & is one of my favs. i started with 'kindred,' hope you check her out!
Chimamanda is one of my role models, her TED talks and speeches are all round inspiring, but that novel honestly had stories that left me stunned with the simple brilliance of it.
Do a dystopian book recommendation video please!
have you read "ender's game"?! one of my fave dystopian books, as well as "brave new world" by huxley 💜💜
Victoria aveyard's series are good
They both die at the end, Chaos Walking and Noughts and Crosses are some of my favourites 😊😊
Hunger games ik it’s like kids but
I really liked Severance by Ling Ma - dystopian as well as a satire of millenialism
