I give you my genuine FL5 first impressions and full walk-around from the perspective of a 90's Honda guy. I talk about the things I like, the things I don't, and whether or not I see myself buying one! Hint* It's better in person. Enjoy!
This FL5 Civic Type R video was very unplanned to say the least! Living in Idaho, I didn't know when or where I would see the Type R for the first time. To my surprise, my friend Steve at Garage Slick ending up buying a 2023 Type R just days before this video. I knew I NEEDED to see the Type R in person and give you all my first impressions review. As another surprise, he had not one, but TWO FL5 Type R's in the shop, crazy! Both in Championship White and Boost Blue. So I grabbed my camera, and began filming as thoughts would come into my head.
As far as the FK8 Civic Type R Vs the FL5 Civic Type R, I think they both are amazing cars. I think the FK8 will always be the more aggressive and youthful Type R, but the FL5 is timeless and grown up. The more I looked at the cars, the more I liked them. Video reviews and photos don't do the car justice until you see on in person. The width of the Type R was one of the things I noticed most. She thicc. As far as a review of the interior of the Type R, I would say it's arguably my favorite part. It's simple and clean with some standout seats and carpet that makes it feel special.
So will I eventually buy an FL5 Civic Type R? Maybe someday. Hopefully I'll be able to give you a Type R driving impressions video in the next few weeks to really make up my mind. In short, it's a beautiful car with all the tings a driver needs and none of the things they don't. Is it worth the Dealer Markups over MSRP? Maybe to some, but that's one big hurdle that I think most people are facing about these cars. Anyway, I can't wait to drive it. Thank you to Garage Slick for having me out to check it out!

I'm a Hyundai N fan boy but this new type-R with the more restrained styling is so, so, so good. I love this.
I honestly think all of us in our respective camps (Type-R, GR Corolla, Elantra N etc) should celebrate all of these cars regardless. I'm a Type-R guy but I'm glad the Elantra N and GR Corolla exist, we've gotta enjoy these cars while we still can.
Imo, The FL5 is wayyy better than the FK8
I think they both have their pros and cons. But the FL5 is more my style!

The fl5 is slower than the fk8 lol. And looks boring.
Facts
Way better in terms of what specs?
1. Fl5 is slower than fk8 on some tracks
2. Fl5 reaslnanly blends in more, i.e. less visible than fk8
3. Fl5 is heavier than fk8
4. Fl5 is apparently marked up more than fk8 intiially was. (Note markup is reasonably different from appreciation over time)
The raised portion of the bonnet/hood I’ve been told is a design element manufactures are incorporating into their vehicles for improved pedestrian safety - In the event a pedestrian is struck by the vehicle the bonnet has a collapsable space that can be used to absorb the impact. As opposed to hitting the engine block through a thin layer of metal
While I didn't love the look of the FK8, it was still undoubtedly pretty much the ideal daily.
The FL5, to me, is now damn near perfect.
I'd love to see the FK wing on an FL.

I bought some fk8 type R seats and installed them into my 8th gen civic . They are very similar to these they are manufactured by hand by Honda themselves not sure why they stopped working with reccaro but very nice seats regardless

In my preludes back in the 90’s they came with stock Recaro’s so did BMW in the 80’s 90’s. Some sport edition Volvo’s had stock Recaro’s in the 80’s 90’s. If you could imagine seeing a 1982 or 83 BMW 320is They Recaro seats left you speechless 😱. They were gorgeous 👍

I have a boost blue FL2 tbh I'm glad they only option the color for the sport trims and not the EX and LX trims

I still want an FK8, but the FL5 looks absolutely amazing.
You know I used to only be in to Ferraris, lambos, Nissan skylines and other fast and exotic cars and never really appreciated a stock car for what it was. But after watching all day Anthony all I want is a “clean” car that’s in good shape. and I especially like 2 door civics and 70s to early 2000s cars

My FK8 makes 566whp on a stock motor so hopefully Steve will mod his to make similar power. These cars are daily driver beasts. Incredible limits

I like the whole range but I feel like the sides of the wing need to be body coloured which would be something I personally would do but still a great looking car.
You should get one! Would be the best for the channel! And something you would love
I thought the same about the carpet, especially living in Wisconsin with snow and heavy salting. RIP to that carpet, that car would have to be hard parked in the winter time.

I love my 07 Type R. I don't know why they got rid of the hatchback look with the 2023 model. Looks better imo.
that’s my favorite type r too bad they don’t have that one in the US. Closest thing they have to that is the 08 Mugen Si which is also nice just pretty rare to find.

ive noticed that new type r / si got that weird short feeling on 5th and 6th gear. its too close to 3rd and 4th. comin from an ek hatch type r conversion my stage 6 clutch is better shifting than those new ones imo.
I like the other blue better.
