Hi, Colin. Love your tutorials, you are my "Go to Guy" for all things related to PS. I can't thank you enough for the knowledge you impart and the easy, uncomplicated way in which you do it. I'm a 78 year old Aussie who has been a "Photo Junkie" from a very early age and still love learning new ways of processing my images, you have provided me with an Aladdin's cave of treasures from which to choose. I recommend you to all my friends as the best online instructor on the planet.
Sir this is a very powerful tool and professionally used in Photo Studios in making portraits background light effect with some clouds effects and then Gaussian luring or motion blurring the background. It gives marvelous effect to photos. Try it some time.
You have exploded my confidence with Photoshop. I have looked at many other sources and with the exception of one other, you are my muse and mentor. Awesome.
Great tutorial. This is such a great series and I have been following. It has been so helpful to learn how to use Render / Lighting Effects. This is one of those tools that can be applied to everything. I've tried it on portraits and today on flower photography. So cool. I like how the Metallic and Gloss give a slight dreamy effect. Thank you!
Absolutely loving this lighting effects series, your tutorials are clear, concise and easy to follow and your personality shines through. Thanks for sharing all this fantastic free content 🙏🙏✌
Extremely interesting topic, at least for me. This is mainly why I'm learning PS. Those light effects looks pretty amazing. I love nature and landscape photography, most of the time quite realistic style, but from time to time it's fine to do some fine art as well. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for a great series on lighting effects. As a newer user I find it hard too locate a lot of the effects and what tools to use. This series is expanding my tool set.
Hi Colin, Loving the Tutorial's on Lighting effects, now that I've engaged brain. The 3D lighting Effect is working brilliantly now thank you for your patience. Keep them coming
Learning a lot from this lighting effect tutorials sir. For me, it's a very underrated tools of photoshop. I'm using this technique frequently these days to re-light my old travel photos in this quarantine period and apart from that I would love to have a wacom tablet so that I can fine tune my images and graphic designs !
I really like your tutorials because you speak very clearly and most importantly not too fast.I find that too many of the narrators of PS instructional videos go so fast that they are hard to follow, especially when you are first learning PS.
I love the learning in lock down and now have more time and somehow missed the first 2 lighting effects. Therefore I will definitely will pop back in the cafe to watch the tutorials. You are and have been inspirational teacher being a community minded helping the wider community socially network and concerned with others through a difficult transition! :)
I have been watching the entire lighting series and it has inspired me to use it with some of my images. I have used other methods to light my landscape images but this gives me far more control. Thanks.
@@photoshopcafe Thank you for the video, I am unable to see the widget even after checking the graphics processor, image is 8 bit, Crl H and even went to the view menu to check that the "hide' was on and restarted the computer and I can see the effect but not the widget to make adjustments. I can make adjust in the properties menu but I am unable to resize/shape the effect. Any suggestions?
Thanks. Great tutorial. I'm enjoying the series and will go over them a few times to let it soak in :) (besides photography I also work as a healthcare worker and concentration is a bit of an issue after work in these crazy times).
Many thanks for a very well explained technique. Just so happens that I had been looking to create this look for a few months and, now I know!! Thank you!
A good tutorial like all the other ones you made earlier. Very easy to understand and follow along on the go. Although I am very much familiar with lightening effects but its always good to see some creative work. Keep it up.
Wow, cool lighting effect. It made the fern look like a little ballerina dancing in the spotlight. I would love to win one of the Wacom tablets. I saw a Wacom review you did a couple of years ago and have been wanting one ever since. Photography is a hobby for me and transforming my photos in Photoshop is my absolute favorite part of photography. Now it's time for me to take the next step and leave my outdated mouse behind!
Thank you so much for such an amazing tutorial. I tried to do it but my lighting effect is grayed out even though I changed it to 8 bit, RGB and checked graphic processor in the preference section. what else should I do?
I've really been enjoying this series, Colin! Now I've gotta dig through my photos and find a few to do this with. Maybe I can create some of that faerie dust to make this nasty covid go away... Great tutorial as always! Like button = (faerie) dust! 😆
Goodday Colin from a sunny, autumn, blue sky South Africa, Autumn is so nice in SA, nice warm weather, but not too hot, blue skies, lovely colors. I enjoy this series on lighting effects. One question, "Downscaling" the picture to 8 bit - its a pity that we cannot use lighting effects on 16bit. What is the impact if you back-scale to 16bit after using lighting effects? Staysafe
Its not like going to 8 bit makes your images look terrible, the main advantage of 16 bit is that it holds up better if you do heavy adjustments. (Not saying that 16 bit isn't better, it is. But not as much as people thing) When you output to jpg its converted to 8 bit anyway. So I would do all your other adjustments first and apply this after you main tonal adjustments and you should be fine.
Love this series, really like learning new things I can apply to so many photos I all ready have, or. stock photos. Thanks for continuing to inspire. One thing though, I did not have an "axes, or jitter option". wondering if I don't have my brushes settings showing for some reason?

Brush settings, not the brushes panel
