I love old school practical visual and make-up effects! The technology and know-how has evolved and keeps evolving! I love this channel, long may you continue!!😊😊😊👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻❤️❤️
Just seeing some behind the scenes footage would be cool, but the fact you film all this extra footage, explain what your doing, the idea behind it and then edit it all together into a professional video like this is brilliant, nice one.
Thanks Tim! Nice to hear you like the format of the video, every step of the process is important in our work so every little detail is key to include in the video; glad you liked it!
i needed to do a pyrotechnics shot of a building that was blown up. I didn't have the budget for sparks and flares, but I had a smoke machine. I connected two pipes to the inside of the miniature building; one for the smoke and one so i could blow air through the pipe to create the 'bang'. I also put LEDs on the inside of the miniature for the burning flames. For the windows, I just used tape! The end result was awesome!
It is always a pleasure to watch you guys working and putting so much passion into details. That´s the key... the Devil is on the details. Magnificent work guys, congrats!
I think what the editing always fails on is the EMENSE amount of work you and your crew do to get this stuff so incredible looking. As always really loved this segment. Big props to the crew.
Why do I discover your channel so late ?! You guys are incredibly talented ! Sick vidéo ! I'm so glad someone take the time to share those "in camera" effects techniques like you do... Those are so pleasing to create instead of spending hours behind a computer...
Love these walk through of how you guys do stuff. I ain’t got an ounce of DIY-ability, but love seeing others who are way more capable rigging something that works! Keep up the good work. Would love to say hi to you guys in person, as I’m in Bristol as well. Maybe we bump into each other, you never know!
Damn! I'll release a very similar thing in September... Hope you guys don't mind and I'll mention this video too just to get more info. You guys are awesome!
Bloody love a model! You guys inspire me to try practical effects with each and every video. Haven't actually had chance to do any yet but I'll get there! 🤣🤣
miniatures and pyro is our two favourite things so oh yes, this shoot was a lot of fun! Make sure to show us if you ever do get around to giving some effects a go haha!
Was thinking, that many of your effects, explosions, dust clouds, etc would be saleable to others. Surely you guys could release a set of Cinematic Effects that we as amateur/semi-pro people could use in our own productions? Stock footage like these could so easily be re-used, especially as good comping software is available to almost anyone these days.
OK... didn't realise you are already doing this! (This is a variant on one of those "I should have watched the entire video before commenting" comments!
Unrelated to the video directly but, as a graphic designer, something I noticed about your thumbnails - the red keylines while cool, make it rather hard to tell if you have watched a video or not especially on the desktop. Maybe it's just me but I wanted to pass on my UX observation. Love your videos!
So I have a question for you… I have a short film project coming up which requires the use of a miniature. In one of the scenes, the miniature (which is supposed to be a Tudor style home set in 1980’s England) is seen from across the street and is meant to have someone standing in the window. I want to do a green screen affect but was wondering how best to pull this off. The green screen would actually be set inside of the miniature house and lit appropriately so it can be keyed later. I would then replace the internal green screen with a shot of the interior of the home including the person in the window. Is this something you’ve seen done before? Any advise?
Sounds like something that could have been done 70 years ago (minus the green screen and modern tracking/keying). I am also 100% sure that it was done. If your camera is static or moves very little this should be easy to do - it only gets complex if you camera movement would introduce any form or parallax or shift in perspective (inside of the room in the window) but that also depends on the distance. I think you should be fine - it sounds very straightforward and doable.
If no object crosses the window (tree or sth) there is really no reason for put green into it. Even with a moving shot, you can do moving rotoscope mask easily
a spray adhesive would've worked well for the acetate (we just didn't have any), but for all the others it would've just clouded the acetate so we had to use glue. Hope that helps, and hope you liked the video!
It is an joy to sit here by coffee☕️ and watch this clip.
Exellent !!!🎥🎞🎬👍✌️😝😂🥁🥁✨💫

haha thanks Dom, they're masters at the art of what they do and were one of our big inspirations, so any sort of comparison is nice!

Thank you! And it just goes to show how good practical fx can be done on a budget with a bit of ingenuity and creativity!
Fun! Looks like you guys had a blast, and why wouldn't you? Blowing up miniatures never gets old.

Easily the best youtube channel, by far.
Thank you so much!
100% agree.
Oh this looks about the best fun you could ever have in a workplace or beyond. I'm jealous.
The practical effects give the whole thing this "old Godzilla film" character, plus the hot actress as a cherry on top... great work 👍
*I am jealous!*

Great episode. I assume you can use some of your smoke and fire elements on future projects as well now
Exactly, always handy shooting elements as the can be re-used for future projects!

@@RyoMassaki If it's a locked-off shot, I would rotoscope the windows out manually as you can get a better edge without spill.

We actually do something VERY similar in our Psycho Miniature episode. Maybe check it out for some pointers...
Congratulations, you have now achieved the age of Dad Jokes.

haha thank you!
where did you get the adjustable L bracket for the camera???
It is the 'Dynamic levelling wedge' plate from Dynamic Perception.
What? Why didn't you use a spray adhesive on the back of the window frame cut-out and then just lay the clear plastic on top?
a spray adhesive would've worked well for the acetate (we just didn't have any), but for all the others it would've just clouded the acetate so we had to use glue. Hope that helps, and hope you liked the video!
