Yes. Me too. That final composite works incredibly well. And, although they have access to some nice gear, all you needs is a decent camera (Blackmagic, anyone) some lighting savvy, and a free copy of Resolve, and you could approach this level with only a modest outlay. Good stuff, and loads of good ideas. And yes, the Tony Perkins bit was chillingly good!
I lost it on the dancing Mother. Nice touch. You're right in the scale of the model does lessen the realism of the shot, but it does make it very stylized, which would work well for something lighter or more comedic. These are great videos.
One of my favourite miniature shots of all time is the intro flyover in The Burbs. That Klopek house is almost as iconic (imho) as the Bates house or the Elm St house.
Blade runner used miniatures(the latest one). I love miniatures , my favorite has to be "The Shadow" , fantastic art deco inspired city and superb matte painting, the 5th element is also superb.Great work guys.Peace.
Absolutely agree with you on everything; and regards to Blade Runner, we have something coming this year... keep an eye out, we have some pretty major Blade Runner content lined up!
Wonderful work, I am a projectionist and I am sensitive to what you do. Thank you for always highlighting the models. These should not disappear to give way to digital effects but on the contrary they should be an ally to them. I prefer that the camera films a model than 0's and 1's! !
It would be awesome, if you made a video about hanging miniatures and forced perspective. And also I would love to see some effects with glass, like putting a sheet of glass in front of camera in a way that either reflection in the glass or an object behind can be seen. Love your channel! Your videos are great!
Layering is something that special effects artists have never escaped. Even in the CGI world, you need to take it one element at a time. You just can't throw it on a table, film it in one go and leave it at that.
I wish I could give you at least 2 likes - 1 for this video and 1 for what I assume to be a Cowboy Bebop t-shirt with the Swordfish ! Love your content, thank you very much for sharing your passion and knowledge.
A boy's best friend is his -mother- camera! Great job as always, guys! So many great tips that are easily applicable to many other projects; 7:36 and13:02 are a couple of my favorites. And your American accent is surprisingly good! It would make Mother very proud...
Absolutely fascinating! Watching how every little facet and detail come together really gives us an appreciation for your work. Though as a longtime hardcore "Psycho" fan, it could be argued that if Norman is outside and looking up at the house, Mother would only be there in her rocking chair. Then again, if you're recreating that famous shot from "Psycho II," then it could be Mary or Lila Loomis - even Mrs. Spool! - up there. So who is it, boys?
Awesome! We need more miniature and practical effects videos! Also please make a video to show how these things would work on a cheap camera like the Canon M50. You know what I mean😅 I don't have access to BMPCC but still want cinematic footage😁
Thanks, glad you're loving the videos, there's plenty more to come! The great thing about this shot is that as it's static it can be achieved on any camera really. Even a phone! - if anyone is shooting on a phone we recommend the Filmic Pro app!
Just found your channel and the content is superb. I would love to see how you would approach this kind of effect with a space budget (sadly, I don’t mean unlimited access to either the ESA or NASA’s bank account). Currently I work as a cameraman, soon be stepping up to DoP, and my office/production space is an 8x8 spare bedroom. Unfortunately, I don’t have access to a large (or even medium sized) studio area. So how would you create these visuals with very limited space? Thanks.
Awesome video! So glad I came across your channel a while back. What focal length and aperture did you use for this shoot? I see so many miniature shots using the probe lens (which I don’t have lol)
Yeah probes are great! But not essential for miniatures. You want a wide angle lens with minimal distortion and close your Aperture to around 11 to maintain a deep dof. The lens we used is in the description 👍
Love the content fellas. I think you could have quite a bit of fun with some old school front projection 3m Scotchlite screen material - for some even more authentic "in camera" composites. I have yet to find a current channel that experiments with it. The sheets/backgrounds are definitely on the pricey side unfortunately.
requires a beam splitter to go coaxial to the lens which i have not seen a long time, zoptic process and the introvision process need both. Though there is another technique available which i have done for interactive lighting, but seeing as i work in the industry keeping to myself.
THey appear to be using a Blackmagic Pocket (!) cinema camera. Not sure if it's the 4k or 6k version, but for this kind of work, either would be great, and noticeably more affordable than many alternatives at the price. Note that neither of these are full frame. SO don't believe the hype. Just goes t show you can do great work without having to spend a fortune.
12:10 There was a famous Hypnosis performer named Reveen that got knocked on the head by a falling stage light, he got knocked out and they found a brain tumour in his skull. Once they took it out he couldn't perform anymore.

The skill involved in ‘weathering’ really is an under-appreciated art.
Hahahh, dancing mother at the end cracked me up! 😂
That reflection pass is absolute genius. Never in a million years would I have thought of that, but it's so necessary!
This is EXACTLY what I needed for my short film! Thank you
Brilliant! Very happy it's helped!
That's a surprisingly good Anthony Perkins impression. Just discovered your channel today and I'm already obsessed. Great stuff, guys!

This is incredible. So inspiring! Makes me want to get out there and start making more practical FX driven films.
Oh that's amazing to hear, glad we've inspired you!
EXCELLENT Anthony Perkins impression!!!
This is cool. Miniatures are so fun. I'm a professional compositor, so the next episode shall be interesting as well.
Excellent! We're planning on making all the layers available to our Patrons to have a play with ;)
That final comp was sooo worth it! Rave rave rave
Haha glad you liked it, we thought we'd drop in a special version for those that stuck through to the end!
@@InCameraTV My only gripe is - not enough of it!!! Hilarious, perfect, insightful and spectacular result.
That Bates impression is spot on!
Haha thank you!

thanks so much! Glad you spotted the dancing mother gag at the end 😂

Your content is top notch and this are real tutorials!
Thanks so much, glad you're finding the tutorials helpful!

'You dress to camera' a mantra for the Zoom generation. Lovely and insightful work as always, guys. Looking forward to Part 2
Ruddy bloody brilliant!!
This is incredible content 👍🏻
Holy shit! 😲 That's an uncanny Norman Bates you do.
Actually looking like a grown up version of teen Norman from the series.

Thank you!
That opening was amazing 😂

Lots of fun AND educational. Thanks, guys!
Thanks man, that's the goal; to educate and entertain! Glad you liked it!
Just found your channel and it's amazing! Even your acting at the beginning is top notch wth
haha thank you so much!
Good Anthony Perkins impression although I was also reminded of actor Keir Dullea as Dr Dave Bowman in '2001 A Space Odyssey.'
Brilliant work!
Ah so glad you like it, thank you!

Ending gold!
A little reward for those that stuck around to the very end!;)
Love your channel, you guys are like the corridor crew from an alternate universe...
Thanks Seth!
Dope! As always
I really do love a miniature. The house looked great guys and fantastic results.
Simply amazing :-D

Awesome! And 1000 thanks!
mother raving in the window killed me lmao

@@InCameraTV Great episode!!! Such talented film makers!!!
Not watched it yet but love you guys anyway and you get a Like for that intro
Thank you!
What determines using blue screen as opposed to green screen?
MEGA BOOM!!! 😃🤘

Where do you go to get the model house? I’m looking for a model house of Harry Potter’s parent’s house in Godric’s Hollow!
12:10 There was a famous Hypnosis performer named Reveen that got knocked on the head by a falling stage light, he got knocked out and they found a brain tumour in his skull. Once they took it out he couldn't perform anymore.
Might start buying lil miniatures...
You look so much better without your facial hair!
Fhartist? I didn't know I could use that as a label.
Great American accent!
My wife won't let me get a mega-boom.
Wow, that Tony Perkins impression was downright creepy...
Tom was a bit too good as Norman Bates haha!
wonderful video but fun fact: in Arabic bate means house! haha
oh what a coincidence aha, that's cool to know! Glad you liked the video!
TIL that Arri make sandbags
SPOILER ALERT: Realistically... mother wouldn't be moving. She would be deadly still.
