Robert Englund (A Nightmare on Elm Street, Galaxy of Terror, Freddy vs. Jason) assumes the classic role of The Phantom in this shocking, nerve-jangling retelling of Gaston Leroux's timeless tale of music, madness and murder!
An aspiring opera singer finds herself transported back to Victorian-era London - and into the arms of a reclusive, disfigured maestro determined to make her a star. The silver-throated Christine (Jill Schoelen, The Stepfather) enjoys success through the arrangements of her new lover (Englund)... until she realizes that he has been committing unspeakably grisly murders in her honor and won't stop until he's completed his masterpiece... in blood!
Also starring Bill Nighy (I Frankenstein, Shaun of the Dead, Underworld), Alex Hyde-White (Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade), Terence Harvey (From Hell) and Molly Shannon (SNL, Superstar), directed by Dwight H. Little (Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers, Marked for Death, Rapid Fire) and featuring make-up effects by Kevin Yagher (A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge, Face/Off), this “darker spin on…The Phantom of the Opera is the one to watch” (HorrorCultFilms.co.uk)!

THIS IS THE CLOSEST WE’LL GET TO THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA BEING A COPY OF THE STRANGE CASE OF DR. JEKYLL AND MR. HYDE AND I AM HERE FOR IT!
I know a lot of phans don't seem to like it because it's not 100% faithful to the novel, but then again no version is. On the other hand, this has lots of Leroux elements in it: Meg, Bouquet, Carlotta, box 5, the managers, the unmasking and even the Perros cemetery scene where Erik plays the violin at her father's grave. That hasn't been seen since the original cut of the 1925 film, and that version's gone.
Who gives af about the novel. If they want the novel they can read the novel. Adaptations are going to be different and should be unique.
One of the most beautifully Eerie compelling and grotesque adaptations of Phantom of the Opera ever deserving of the praise it gets it's truly phenomenal and it's horrifying for me
One, two, Phantom's coming for you...
😂😂😂
3 4 Robert England's getting paid more
5 6 put some gore in the mix
I remember watching this, and the first thing that came to my mind was "Nightmare on Elm st: the Opera
eroupopper Oprah Winfrey?
Unku Sonrob Opera. excuse me, My phone was doing auto correction. Let me correct it.
Omg I’m not the only one who have imagined this
Same actor
Robert Englund is a LEGEND
I actually think this is an underrated adaptation, same with the 1962 Hammer Horror one, and Phantom of the Paradise.
Oh, man, definitely the best phantom of the opera retelling. I can’t think of one better one
If you got the movie, you would be surprised.
Watched this as a 10 year old kid. Never forgot this one.
I really love seeing Robert Englund as Destler again, since I am making a nice story about him already. 😘😘😘😘😘Roses for him as the Phantom🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
As a child I loved this version! I loved that atmosphere of terror and love so much
This has always been my favorite version of poto. I watched it so many times as a kid that I have much of the dialog memorized & even taught myself how to play the Don Juan Triumphant on the piano. I couldn't watch the NOES series because it was too scary, but this movie never bothered me.
Happy 70th Birthday Robert Engund!!
Happy 71st belated birthday Robert Englund

@@Oli-xc4tm WOW were all getting older.
I feel like this is the only Phantom of the Opera film that has the spirit of the book despite how far removed it is from the source material
Indeed. Englund perfectly embodied the character as I've imagined him like in the book.
It's honestly the only adaptation besides the Lon Chaney version that is closest in spirit to the book.
I can't believe they combined my two favorite things!!!! #PhantomOfTheKruger #FreddyOfTheOpera 🥰🥰🥰👌
I know right?! 😊
Thank You Scream Factory for remastering
My favorite film adaptation! How nice that this is a movie, not a musical on the screen!
To me the music makes it the most haunting and beautiful but I do agree with the fact that i love this version
Absolutely!
Probably the best version ever, along with the 1925 version
Along with 1962, Phantom of the Paradise, and 1943. 1986 musical I'll give it time.
This was a very ambitious project at the time. I remember seeing it in the theater and liking it. I think it flopped though if I remember correctly.
I need to watch this movie! right now!
I love it 🤟. Saw it at the cinema upon release and I remember leaving the theater 🎭 excited
I don't really care if these movies are old or have rotten tomatoes! I'll judge the movie myself! his movie looks convincing! I'm Gonna watch it soon! xD
It's actually pretty good if you are watching it as a horror/crime/thriller/romance but if you are expecting the original/romance/drama/musical, this is not it!!
Yeah! I've Watched It And It's REALLY Good In My Opinion! :D
Ya its rly an underrated movie its just soo nice!
I see this movie as a hammer horror film.
@@drmixer826 there actually was one adaptation by Hammer. Herbert Lom as a more sympathetic anti-hero version of the Phantom.
I need this movie now!
i know this is an older video but was this bluray ever released in the uk? i come from Scotland and would love this on bluray. xxx
The best screen version of " The Phantom".
1:26
Was that Bill Nighy I saw there?
Yes
Good work
I didn’t even know this version existed!
One...Two...Erik's coming for you
Three...Four...Rob's getting paid more
Five...Six...Throw some gore in the mix
Seven...Eight...The movie's just so great
Nine...Ten...Phantom's back again
Holy Nightmare on Elm Street, Is that Freddy Krueger.
The Phantom will always be a movie to me and not a musical. The black and white version and this are the only ones I'll watch. Who is the actress who played Christine? Wasn't she in the Stepfather? Popcorn?
Phantom: I am the music...
Me: ...Yes? Of what?
Looks absolutely brilliant this, great story, locations, cast(Robert Englund), on Blu Ray. Have this ordered
....it's not terrible...generally speaking....AND IT'S GOT A BRILLIANT SCORE!.......so that's something.....
Can you guys do another printing of this? My friend and I have been dying to get our hands on it!
It’s available on amazon for $13 right now
@@Alaskanassass1n well, I already bought it on Ebay a few months ago xD
Ebay and Amazon have it still for pretty cheap occasionally.
Where can I stream it ?
Story wise I think this is gonna be the best one music. I think the Android Lloyd Webber movie was better with music. But I like this one better because it wasn't a lot of singing like the others. This was actually a movie that I could enjoy and get into I think this is the best one. I don't get in child at music and opera.I want to see a horror movie and this was that 13 out of 13 skull straight across-the-board.I enjoyed this one the best
Hmm, the guy from V played the phantom at one point. Wonder if he was in anything else 🤔🤔🤔
Now that's a great reference.
Robert Englund and Jill Schoelen was two sex symbols when both made this The Phantom Of The Opera version togheter.
I don't recall Freddy Kreuger being a sex symbol.
@@PJVids83 I do ; )
@@PJVids83 dear Philip Zamora, the brothers André Di Mauro and Cláudia Mauro, the singers Lulo Scroback who is brazilian and Samantha Fox who is english and the actresses and models of italian heritage Selma Egrei and Stefania Rocca are the six sexiest and most stunning worldest sexual dreams ever.
@@jesstar1998 dear Jesstar 98, the brothers André Di Mauro and Cláudia Mauro, the singers Lulo Scroback who is brazilian and Samantha Fox who is english and the actresses and models of italian heritage Selma Egrei and Stefania Rocca are the six sexiest and most stunning worldest sexual dreams ever.
The phantom is Freddy Krueger 's grandfather.
I actually put together a modern version of the Phantom costume which includes a 40s esque look, since the Broadway Phantom already had a fedora, and I added a little finger claw ring that kinda had a Freddy Krueger vibe to it (since Freddy and the Phantom both wear fedoras). Imagine my surprise when Robbie actually did play the Phantom.
I have this movie on blu ray
Robert englund the greatest actor ever
Why London?? Why not Paris??
The Nightmare of the Opera or The Phantom on Elm Street.
Lian nielson phantom the opera
It's Robert Barton Englund who is the Phantom, not Liam Neeson.
I used to rent this as a child all the time n me n my sister loved it! But the scene where the zoha tim hired a prostitute for the night and she wakes up naked and alone in the bed the next morning with money (,they used coins back then) so we were both mad convinced it was the tooth fairy that left her the money and amused to always wonder why she would sleep naked if she knew the tooth fairy was coming 🤣😂
Lol!👍👍👍🥰🤣🤣🤣
Wait there was a scary movie version of this?
Yep. This version was more of a slasher film take on the Phantom thanks to Englund in the role but surprisingly it's a pretty good movie.
I love how this is like a non-musical horror version of the Andrew Lloyd Webber show
It’s not. It’s was a book originally and then redone on film a few times before it ever became a musical!
This movie had a terrible market campaign. It was campaigned like a nightmare on elm street spin off.
So is this Blu-ray.
Yeah that didn't help at all and that's why I dismissed the film for years until finally catching it on TV late one night and giving it a chance. While it does have quite a few slasher film elements in it it's otherwise a really good film and much closer in spirit to the original novel in many ways compared to many other versions.
Awesome, the one from 2004 is crap!
insulted! any phantom fan would LOVE it!
@@krystalharwood1807 The 2004 was not even great, musically. Butler ruined the phantom character for me. He's not even close to the spirit of his character like in the book. I'm a fan of the musical but I would put Butler one of the least in quality phantom character acting.
@@aglayamajorem9546 That's a load of crap from people who don't see the beauty and feel of the situation.
thank god the 2004 Phantom of the opera movie came out after this why ruin such a beautiful musical by making it a cringy horror movie
I think it’s based more on the novel by Gaston Leroux.
This is based on the novel. That musical was beyond cringey.
