He was the Popeye of Buffy. Popeye was originally a guest character in the Thimble Theater comic strip, but was so popular they brought him back and eventually renamed the strip after him.
That's the power of charisma. Hell, on Breaking Bad Gus Fringe went from nothing background character to main antagonist because Giancarlo made him that compelling all on his own
I think the best part about his arc is that in a way he already had his humanity and it took him doing what he did to want a soul. His redemption wasn't about becoming a good person or even getting a soul it was about realizing he had already done that as he fell in love with Buffy. Spike honestly deserved his redemption and I think it was so beautiful and clever how they did it.
i think part of it is because he was always just so unapologetically himself, he never cared if he seemed lame and that made him cool! That and the leather jacket definitely helps haha
Best Spike line ever was when he was talking to Giles about his life flashing before his eye. "Cup of tea, cup of tea, almost got shagged, cup of tea..." such laconic delivery...
Spike is easily the best character on the show. Most iconic look, most quotable/memorable lines, and an interesting arc that far exceeds any other characters. Love him.
The bit at 1:39 when Riley asks Spike "Don't I know you?" and Spike replies "No. No Sir, I'm just an ol' pal of Xanders here." His American accent sounds so bad. And yes, I know he's actually American in real life, but it's so funny how he managed to sound like an English guy doing a bad American accent.

It's hilarious to me that on Torchwood they had him play a Brit, while actual Brit John Barrowman played an American. And both of them totally nailed the accent.
Spike lifted this show into a new realm. The perfect actor meant the perfect on screen chemistry. He lifted some really awful (sad) scenes into something manageable.

No,the Dracula episode. When they were at Dracula'd house and Giles fell to the basement and all those vampire women got all over him. And at the end when they were leaving, Xander said he was tired of being everybody's butt monkey. And Riley said "at least you weren't making out with the vampy babies , like Giles". And Giles looking embarrassed said "I was just about to killed those loathsome creatures". And Riley said "what were you gonna do, nuzzle them to death"🤣🤣🤣

I love you Spike and I thank you James Marsters for playing Spike so comically well. I love all the other characters very much as Xander and Rupert Giles and even Willow in the Buffy series had me in fits of laughter a lot of the time too. I found that Spike made me laugh the most though, both in Buffy and in the series of Angel. Spike was cool and bloody hilarious(if you pardon the pun)haha, with his actions, remarks and even his facial expressions were brilliant! I shed a tear when we lost him in the very last ep of Buffy where he was slowly what looked like cremated via the amulet he was wearing. When he was helping Giles who turned into a demon and riding Giles’ car together was one of the funniest scenes of Spike and Giles 😂🤣
Giles getting out of the car to chase Professor Walsh is one of my all time favorite scenes.
“rest in peace” is still my favourite musical number of all time
Omg his voice when he sings 🤤🤤
So glad they kept him! And just when you thought he was gone he pops up in Angel💜. He was a better man than Angel and a better vampire. While Angel wanted to redeem himself for himself, Spike wanted to redeem himself for Buffy 💜
This is why I watch Buffy
Spike was always my favorite in the series.
one word: ICONIC.
“You’re not even bumpy anymore!”
😂😂
One of my all time fav characters and such eye candy 😊
That actor + those scriptwriters = lightning in a bottle. Spike may be the objectively best series character ever created.
I am here in 2024 just to confirm, that Spike is still everyones favorite.
Hilarious! I can’t imagine anyone else playing that part. Best character on the show.
Spike was the reason I love Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Agree 100% It was ok show before he showed up
@@joimumu Yeah. He brought the comedy.
Best Vampire of any movie or show in my opinion, and I have seen them all
White haired vampires always get me
Spike and Astarion 🤩
I'm sorry but all these years later and the out for a walk line still cracks me up
Buffy is the series that I watch again and again and again and Spike is so much cooler than Angel who is bloody lame and his hair goes straight up lol, angel tries to be funny but it isn’t the same Spike who has washboard abs and rock 🤘
*sigh* Every comment section has to have bots.
Isnt there a scene where Spike has a go at Angel for his hair?
Spike is the hot bad boy that every girl wants, and James Marstons was brilliant. I'm going to watch this a million times. Thank you. I agree Angel was lame. You marry Angel and shag Spike on the side.
@@Hoots522 Marsters
@@jameswatsonatheistgamer My bad. Marsters
spike was the best character. hands down.
Spike will forever be iconic
i am rewatching Buffy in the holiday spirit so am back here 2 years later but 2:22 had me CACKLING "cuppa tea, cuppa tea, almost got shagged, cuppa tea"
The physical humor between 0:43 and 0:46 SENT me!!! Great editing, putting those back-to-back.
Best tv show vampire ever!... James Master, amazing actor. He gave life to Spike in such an amazing way that you manage to go from hate him to love him and to feel sorry about him having a soul!! Love Spike
Even then, Spike couldn't resist giving off a small chuckle/laugh just before he turned to ash. Like I have previously said, thank you James Marsters for playing Spike so well and comically entertaining me. Well done. xx
I just realised how much Damon is like him.
Okay. Now I have to go back and watch the whole series again. I hope you're proud of yourself!
Spike is my favourite character and i got to meet james marsters and he is so nice and everything and more you could think he could be. Really was a privalage to meet him. Top bloke.
My God!!!! Spike was the show!!!
The way he protects Dawn with his life when Glory is looking for her. Stayed with me man.
