It really is. We have done some riding together before but now trying my hand at videography..Can enjoy watching years from now. He has a channel covering our trip too…. @michaelcharliedelta6523
The top of Canaday Pk. was absolutely glorious under that big sky.. the strange feelings one gets on days like this that makes one's heart want to burst with joy..I got that just watching this video from the sofa.. Edward Abbey spoke of this in his books as fire-watch keeper of lonely isolated summit peaks throughout the west.. thanks for sharing!
I just found your channel, subscribed! As I’m becoming an older rider myself I really enjoy listening to your comments and view on the trail. I’m taking notes! I’m looking forward to watching the rest of your videos. Thanks for sharing!
Love your video well done. 5 of us last year road from Canada to Mexico and back to Canada. We road down the Great Divide came back to Canada on the BDR trails 9500 miles 34 Days. What a great ride.
@@jrdepew I lived in Steamboat Springs, CO for years and loved the western slope, southern WY area. Back in East TN now, so not all that bad, but I miss being out west.
Would be great to meet up. Plans are to be in Moab first of Sept. I will be on a group ride along the Smokie 500 in June with Brock Gill. PM me on Messenger if you like.
This is so good JR! Well done! It is such a pleasure to see those wide open spaces and the riding is very inspiring. Great to see you were able to do the trip with your Son also. That had to be a wonderful experience. Every video I watch of yours is excellent. Going to watch some more. Thanks for sharing this!
Looking forward to riding the WY BDR this summer. I have ridden some of this as we did the Continental Divide 2 years ago. I have done the ID BDR (most of it) more than once. I wouldn't mind giving the WA and OR BDR's a shot as well. So much country to see, so little time!
hello jr i'm a young and upcomeing rider i plan on going for my license soon i'm not from the us but i love your videos i can't wiat to go on my own adventhers some day
Appreciate your videos. I do a lot of solo touring, last bdr was colorado. I found your channel while recovering a surgically repaired broken leg which I got riding my GS in a desert rally. I enjoy seeing a fellow senior reinforcing the notion that we are not as nuts as non riding friends (and my Dr) say we are. Stay safe and keep making videos.
Thank you. Staying "safe" dosn't always coincide with living , Right? Man have I been lucky in the broken bone department though. I am planning to ride a lighter bike this coming summer and will likely be solo. measure and mitigate risks best you can. Heal up well and appreciate the comment.
Wondering if you're going to do part of WYBDR Section 1 to get to the continental divide trail... Don't spoil, I'll just look forward to the next video :)
The music you chose made the viewers experience very peaceful. What bikes are you on? I see Mikes is a GS but not sure which one and I haven’t figured out yours yet.
Thanks commenting. Music is important and a challenge to find so I appreciate that specific observation. Mike is riding a 800 ADVENTURE GS. I'm on a Suzuki DR650.
Just found your channel and I'm on episode 9 lol love your content I'm in the market for a DR or XR 650l love to cruise with you some time I live in western North Carolina blueridge mountains.
Welcome aboard! Either bike is great. DR is lower and has oil cooler. I still love mine but am going to be on a WR250R this summer. I get to western NC (Jefferson) occasionally.
Thanks for the videos! Watching your channel for a few weeks now. Bought a DRZ-400, doing most of my riding in WV…work does not afford long trips. Did you run stock jetting on your trips? I installed jet kit for up to 4000’. Highest peak in WV is 4800’. How did you feel on the 10000’+ mountains? Steve 2:59
Thank you for watching and good questions. I wouldn’t be concerned about altitude adjustments especially in the eastern mountains. In my preparation I found owners who claimed no problem riding the Rockies from much lower altitudes. Power loss is a given on even injected engines. Stock tuning is very lean so enriched mixture as you climb is still fine. That’s my take on it with the Suzuki. I put a Pro Cycle jet kit + conversion with open exhaust. Was fine. Took a leaner jet with me but never installed it. Check DRZ forums too.
Elk mountain is about 7 miles from the tiny hamlet of Elk Mountain which is in south central Wyoming, USA. It is about midway between Laramie and Rawlins just off Interstate 80. The mountain can be seen from some distance. I passed through August 23/24
No. It was a tiny sliver of BLM land maybe 10 miles west of town a local directed us to. Nothing there. In fact, a rancher rode his quad up there in the dark to check us out. We were legal to be there but he didn’t much like it. Hope you have a great trip.
I must be double awesome because I watched twice and sharing to a friend. Another great video JR, stunning views, you had a great campsite in the beginning. I never heard about the DC4 crash thank you for adding that in. FYI ... I ordered case savers for my DR650 last night, thank you for the tip in the video. Did you run stock gearing on this ride? Videos are getting better and better! Thank you for the effort to put these out.
You are double awesome just being a DR driver! Thanks for the encouragement and sharing. The introduction and closing shots with me talking are hilarious in that I’m in Florida - you may see a Gecko crawl down the screen behind me AND all my selfie equipment is in Virginia so…just improvised. A bit shaky but went with it.. I did lower the counter sprocket one tooth on this trip. It was a help.
Good information on the gearing, I did see that Gecko sneak into the shot but we have them here in AZ too. What camera were you using? Stunning video. Others have said it but you are very blessed to have done a trip like this with your son. Often I have been on beautiful rides and think how much my dad would have liked it. Thank you.
My Son (@michaelcharliedelta channel) recommended DJI Action. He uses that and the DJI drone. They were way ahead of GoPro in features and price and glitches.. Had good experience. These videos are worth all the effort just for me to relive the good time. Check out his coverage of same trip.
This really is a beautiful country we have the opportunity to live in. Thanks for taking us along.

Jr., what time of the year did you do this trip, and especially, when did you get in the vicinity of Elk Mountain?
Started from Burgess Junction 18 August, section 7 south bound. Through Elk Mountain 23rd or 24 I think. Weather was good for Wyoming.
Just watching this series as I’m hitting the wy BDR in a couple weeks. Do you have a gps for this campsite by chance?
