It doesn't feel like 25 years... It feels like a century since Moltar hosted the original Toonami back when Cartoon Network showed almost nothing but classics 24/7. It's insane to me how so many people on RUclips nowadays weren't even born when it launched.

People talk about this as a piece of nostalgia a lot, but honestly, especially with Outlaw Star, it often feels more relevant the older you get. There's never a time where you should give up on following dreams after a setback or a victory for fear. Gene spends that whole series searching for the Galactic Lei Line like a dog chasing a car, and once he catches it he has to confront what it is he actually desires. The chase made him live, but the catch was the hard part. Sometimes you catch things in life and desires and dreams fall to the wayside, only for you to have to find new desires and dreams. You stop aging when you can find them again, and nostalgia is no longer important.

Honestly no. I changed careers, I still feel lost. At times I wonder what life would be like if I made a couple changes in the past. Not quite regret but melancholy curiosity. Right now I'm financially stable and all that jazz but just not happy. Maybe happiness is just a fleeting thing.
When I achieved my dreams I woke up on face reality. Had to use both my dreams twice ready, I walk my own path if I do the right things for the wrong people. To be like Bob Marley and Gandhi to bring love and compassion to a dying world. Through my own unparadox means. Now I'm at a standstill looking for a new partner to feel complete.

Yes, I took the blows life through at me, and I’m still standing, and it’s in part due to the lessons I learned here. I lost a lot to accomplish some dreams…but I never changed myself for anyone but myself, and because of that, and even if there’s still so much I want to do at 32 years old, I’m proud of what I’ve survived and accomplished. This video reminds me of how far I’ve come, and I’m eternally grateful to Toonami for that,

As a kid in the early 2000s I would always stay up late in every Saturday night and watch toonami with me and my sister and to this day I still watch toonami because it's apart of my childhood since I was 7 years old and this got me into anime

Toonami was never just some time slot on Cartoon Network; it was a concept and the seed of a movement. I simply would not be who I am in life today without Toonami. I owe more to it than words can express. Thank you - for birthing an entire generation. Those of us left have shared memories of a past which we can bond over forever.
I was 15 when Toonami kicked off. I’d already been into anime for a few years but was limited to what was available to rent at Video Zone. This was like the heavens parted and gave ME, specifically, the most amazing gift. Gundam Wing, Tenchi, Sailor Moon, and the rest… I am now 41 and still watch anime on the daily, still love it as much as ever, but 90s anime will never be topped. My daughter is also an otaku now, I showed her all of these old promos, our origin story. 🥹

Outlaw star is/was so amazing. I'd say it's underrated because I don't hear that many people talking about it. People mainly talk about DBZ/Sailor Moon/Gundam. Which I love too but Outlaw Star hit different as a kid..
@@paradigmshift2223 Outlaw Star felt a little empty at the end, but after giving it some time to sink in, it's really all about the journey, not the destination. Finding the Leyline really did nothing for Gene because he needed to heal on the inside and put the past behind him. It's something so many of us struggle with, and that's why I like Outlaw Star better now than I did back in the day.

This moment right here, these lines... Literal chills! This was my motivation as a teenager. The first time I heard this, I was going through a lot and this felt like it was directed right at me. I will never forget that feeling. I can't thank the people behind Toonami enough for this. Thank you for helping me through a really rough time in my life.
When I finally watched Outlaw Star last year, I reflexively answered “Just keep running away?”
More or less the same for me, except I don't remember any particularly hard thing that I was going through, it just made my thirteen year old self pause for a second and ponder a bit about life in general. I remember this very line and these ads just in general making me think, "I've stumbled upon something that isn't mere cartoons, and it's also not as shallow as Hollywood. This is deep stuff." Which, sure, it wasn't always, and I was a naive kid at the time, but shows and ads like this can have a profound impact on a developing young mind. Definitely need more of it today.

I'm 34 with 3 kids and this took me back to the 5th grade when life wasn't so complicated and kids could still be kids. Mane, these were the days!
I did it. I'm 35 now and I made it to the place I was supposed to go, became the man I needed to be. I didn't know where things were going as a boy but now it all seems so clear. Reflect on yourself often; only you can tame the fear and depravity in your own heart. One decision leads to the next; have faith in yourself. Everyone gets what they want the most.
It's like injecting a mixture of pure happiness and sadness into my brain. Dear God, I can't begin to explain the headspace this puts me in, all these years later. Thank you, Adult Swim. You're truly the last, best hope for television.
This was set up that the right time, I’ve been having a rough few weeks at my job just feeling miserable how I want to go back to school and do the things I want to do but I’ve been holding myself back because of my fears and I let my age be a factor. But now seeing Toonami posted this 23 minutes ago and watching it has made me tear up bit, I’m 27 now & I remember being hooked on Toonami as a kid the inner child in me who I once was would be disappointed at not letting future me follow my dreams and go after I want. there people in school starting at 29-30 doing medical degree thats 5 years long, I think you shouldnt let your age be a reason why you shouldnt do what you want. if age is a big worry, just say what you look like for the age lie, who cares, it only matters to people if you legally have to. Just do it to keep that pressure off.

The late 90's and early 2000's Toonami and Adult Swim anime literally changed my life. I would be a different person if not for these shows being made available to a kid in a small town who would never have discovered them at that age otherwise.

I turned 30 last September, growing up I haven’t watched Toonami as much but when I did, I remember motivational videos like this popping up. Time blew by so fast. Now all I can do is cherish the memories that I have when i was kid. No matter how down I get, I sometimes go back to these videos and lift my spirits up. If anyone out there feels the same, just remember that you rock.

Where does Toonami air now? What shows does it have?
The nostalgia here is powerful. 2002-2003, 8th grade and my first exposure to anime and an increasingly high tech culture. Sitting in my upstairs bedroom at night with the glowing street lamp out the window and hours of anime (Inuyasha, Yu Yu Hakusho, Cowboy Bebop, Pilot Candidate, Outlaw Star, Tenchi Muyo! was the first lineup I watched). It was a magical and physically relaxing feeling.
Im 29 and man. This Still motivates me no matter how much Times and gets me misty eyed every time. Stayed with me since I was a kid. And every time I lift the kettle bell, it’s a refuel of fire to keep going on life.
The age slowly sinks into my bones.

Swore into the Army on 9/10/2001 for Infantry, completely oblivious as to the chaos that loomed, needless to say this bumper brought much need comfort when I shipped out that December. 22+ years, 7 crazy kids and 1 beautiful wife later.. I still come back to this when life gets to be too much.

That part always stuck with me. I remember watching this as a kid and being fascinated by the entirety of this clip. Couple decades later with only a memory of the beginning part. Now seeing it in it's entirety again it hits the same. Toonami was a big part of my childhood and having these come back to watch again is amazing.

This programming legitimately changed my entire life. I was inspired to work out and have good values just based on the characters in these anime’s. 32 years old, my own boss self made, multiple properties paid off, religious gym goer and able to give back now. All thanks to the GOAT Tom.

I was a kid when this came out and I was already into anime and video games and very shy. By the time I graduated high school I had no plans, some bad grades and basically no hope for a strong start. I took a huge chance on joining the army to be able to provide for my family and make something of myself. I served 10 years in the aviation field and saw the world, deployed to Afghanistan, deployed overseas and had soldiers of my own to lead and train. This message had to have contributed to my decision.
Toonami made our childhoods godlike epic!
Toonami has a large part in creating some of the greatest friendships I had in school. Good times sitting around at lunch breaking down what we saw and what we predicted was yet to come.
This gave me the craziest nostalgia trip! Coming home from school , sitting down and watching this promo gave me such relief when I was a kid
I’m 28 years old and I still remember watching this promo as a kid. It has given me the courage and drive I’ve needed to overcome life’s challenges, and to always keep moving forward.

Sometimes I think back and wish I can return to it; just to feel that safe, calm feeling I once felt where the only fears I had were school related and once I returned home to my family, I knew everything was going to be okay. Back in the day, I would always stay up late to watch toonami or for a brief time here in the U.K. as CNX to watch DBZ, OutLaw Star, Batman Beyond, Samurai Jack, ultimate muscle, Megas XLR, CowBoy Bebop and list goes on. a great part of my childhood.
I was 6 when this aired and still remembering it so vividly. Every day after school around 5pm. the anime block was so lit.
I still sometimes look up. And wonder.

Man, growing up watching cartoons and anime in the 1990s was amazing. Those were the legendary times. The best times for television and cartoons. This was before the Narutards began to come along around 2005-2007 years. Toonami, Dragon Ball, Pokemon, Sailor Moon, Gundam Wing 00, G Gundam, Tenchi Muyo, Rurouni Kenshin, Ronin Warriors, Digimon, Fox Kids, all the Nickelodeon and Disney shows, and the list goes on. I can't even describe it. Being a 1990s kid was the best. Besides the parts where I was bullied. Anime, playing outside, and playing Star Fox and Goldeneye 007 on Nintendo 64 were the only good memories I had. I still remember the first time Trunks turned Super Saiyan against Frieza and his "Destruction" theme was playing. I was eating ramen noodles. I remember back when I used to have "friends" and I went to see the first two Pokemon films in theatres. I remember Pikachu crying on the big screen and slapping. I think those were the first cartoon and anime films I saw in a theatre. I have not had "friends" since elementary and 6th grade. I don't trust anyone.
Since then, the best thing I have done is work at Pixar as an animation intern in Summer 2019. San Francisco Bay Area was the most beautiful place I had been to. When 2008 came, I have been going tons of health problems. Kids today have no idea how amazing it was in the 1990s and around 2000. Today, kids are too busy on apps like TikToxic, sn*pch*t, and "IG." Simp boys are supporting girls on places like OnlySimps. RUclips is terrible now compared to when it first released in 2005. I was in 2005 back then. Before youtube was ebaumsworld, newgrounds, and that crazy gore website. Everything has literally gone downhill. My sister's son is in elementary and he is into Dragon Ball like I was as a kid. I don't know if he picked it up from me and my videos, or if it was from Dragon Ball Super. Last holiday in 2022, I brought my Dragon Ball Super Broly film in the living room so he could see it. He had never heard of Broly before. Broly and Vegeta are favorite characters. During the movie, when Broly first started fighting, he began searching Broly on his phone nonstop and he was completely ignoring the film. He was not focused on that amazing action at all. It was annoying me so much. Everyone is so locked into these smart phones. It is crazy.
In the 1990s, kids came back from school, turned on the TV, and watched Toonami cartoons and anime from 2:30 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. Monday through Friday. There was no looking at tiny screen in your hand. If you missed it, you missed it. In fact, it wasn't until high school years that kids started to search for anime episodes online. Nowadays, everyone is in such a rush to see the sub Japanese versions in order to get views for the reaction videos. Kids in the 1990s did not grow up with Japanese sub versions unless they lived in Japan. As far as I knew.

I turned 31 almost a month ago. This is such a heavy memorial to days long gone, yet linger around me if I remind myself to let them back in. I may start doing this every year of my life now. To remind me that some of the truest lessons I ever learned were born here, at this moment, 25 years ago.

Hard to believe I was just 4 when I discovered what would eventually become a wonderful future hobby. Through all the ups and downs in my life, I’m glad Toonami was there for me every day after school and got me hooked onto such great shows. Kids need an experience like this today. Not just once a week in the late dead hours but every weekday after school old and new to cultivate the next generation.
Thank you for bringing me back to those days. Elementary school into middle school. Running home to watch Toonami before my parents came home. Putting off homework. Thank you Toonami!
