I was a late bloomer. Started listening to Frank in '69 with Absolutely Free. Haven't looked back. No regrets
Frank is a national treasure! However, when he was very popular in the early 70s, I was still very young girl and honestly I was scared of people who listen to Frank! Now they’re my favorite people!
How could you be scared of these guys?? They were just tryna have a good time and play some damn good music 🙃 jk, I'm glad you came around. I think everyone here on this channel has a great taste in music and I would totally hang out with them outside of here lol
@@L33Reacts I was not afraid of Frank I never saw him! I was afraid of the guys in the park that listen to Frank all the time I was 10 years old I did not understand. I was still a child. Of course you would hang out with them now you’re 30 fucking years old you get it.
@@L33Reacts about 20 years ago I worked for several years with Frank only nephew! It was awesome hearing all the stories!
That's so cool I bet he had stories for days!! I would love to hear them lol.
I'll be 50 in a few days and I've always known who frank was but didn't really get into his music until about 5 or 6 years ago and I'm addicted to it now ......
Viva Zappa one more time ! And the marvellous Johnny Guitar Watson singing...
San Ber'dino harkens back to the time when Zappa spent 10 days in the San Bernardino County Jail for "pornography" in 1965 ... Our protagonist, Potato Headed Bobby, shows up in other songs in Zappa's catalog and we can possibly presume that he was an inmate beside Zappa in the clink... Evelyn the Modified Dog also harkens back to other music from Frank, most notably the Lumpy Gravy record, his first solo record with orchestra and ambient sound from characters stuck inside a piano which is a highly ambient domain... As you weave your way through Zappa's fabric, you will see threads throughout that are interelated as he likes to create conceptual continuity in the work... This also points to his concept that his work is one big object with various projects that always relate to the larger object that is Zappa's musical universe...
I don't know for sure , but what I heard was , that Frank would write everything out , note for note , then give it to the band and say play it , I'm sure some live stuff had some improv , but if you couldn't read music , you are not in the band . Incredible !!
Beefheart is playing harmonica on this album so yeah, you could have heard his voice too.
Oh no shit really?? I heard the harmonica too! That's awesome. I swear I heard him in there. His voice is unmistakable lol
Im happy to see young people discovering Frank Zappa Iv been listening to him since I was 13 I'm 69 now
I'm so glad I discovered him... he is one of a kind. I love how varied his compositions are. He can do almost anything to the highest level lol
I could hear "Andy" coming up next when the song ended. That one is another that will blow your mind. Just on a whole other level.
Both San Ber'dino and Inca Roads are on the album "One Size Fits All". My personal favorite studio Album from Zappa and the Mothers. I highly recommend listening to the whole thing. Po-jama People, Andy, Florentine Pogen, so many tasty tracks on that one.
I've actually done a video for Florentine. I didn't know Inca was on this album! No wonder I liked it so much!
ruclips.net/video/sMSuN3anXZA/видео.html
@@L33Reacts hey buddy! I gave you the Florentine Pogen video suggestion, and like Richie G, I am an old school FZ fan that loves finding youngsters like you who truly appreciate him. I've been laid up the last few weeks with some med issues myself, but I am getting ready to make another donation for you, I just have to decide where to go next, He has a 1200 plus song catalog, so there are so many ways to go...keep your eyes on PP....the request is in PPal now...
@@Peter-K He's ready to go with a Joe's Garage review... Thanks for Supporting Zappa...!
Singer is Johnnie Guitar Watson (RIP) He was Frank's idol as guitarist, and Johnnie did a few collaborations in Frank's bands.
With Johnny "guitar" Watson geez that's an incredible album you know
"Evelyn, A Modified Dog" is a seperate track, but great you played both.
I was going to add it to the title but it was too long LOL
@@L33Reacts Fair.
If his life wasn't cut so short he'd still be breaking barriers. I've never seen another musician like him since.
Nice to be with a young guy discovering the FZ universe :-) My first Zappa song was "Cheepnis" from the Roxy & Elsewhere album ... long ago.
My dad also died when I was 1 month away from being 9 - he also died of cancer. I feel you Bro. I'm 63 now, It gets better but you never forget .
I am so sorry to hear that steve.... it hurts. It sucks so bad I grew up without my dad and he couldn't meet his grandkids... but life is horrible sometimes. I gotta deal with it.
30 years ago today, it was announced that Frank "left for his final tour."
R.I P. Uncle Frank.
Sure do miss ya, bop bop bop...

Desenex Burger! That's gold, Jerry. It's gold!
Where you been, Knob? Also, where's Czok?
@@Royale_with_Cheeze - Been around. No comments lately. WHERE THE HELL IS CZOK?!?
@@Frunobulax74
Globey aka Artificial Rhonda just showed up recently, very toned down as if to appear to be not the wacko that we know him to be.
I downloaded and stitched together the two concerts from '73 on the newest release. Really impressed with that '73 band. Less comical than '74. I don't even miss Nappy.
Also, two mostly completely different sets only two months apart is a feat no other band was doing.
Of course Joe Travers didn't heed my request to tweeze it, leaving too much unnecessary stuff in there.
If I already owned a BluRay player I would most likely buy the set to hear the quad and 5.1 mixes. I won't plunk down the $65. for the release and need to pay at least &50 for a player just for that purpose. I don't own any BluRay DVDs and don't plan on starting.
Although they likely look better than HD streaming, NFW will I start throwing my pension money away on that.
Where the hell is CZOK?!
@@Royale_with_Cheeze - F*CK GLOBEY!!
Am lucky (or unlucky) enough to be old enough to have seen Frank live on his last tour in 1987. I still feel honoured by that to this day.
Pedal-depressed panchromatic resonance is when you press down the foot pedal on the piano and hit every note at once!
The trumpets of Zappa sound all notes.
"his name is bobby, he looks like a potato"! potato-headed bobby shows up in a few songs. "advance romance" (from bongo fury, and elsewhere) comes to mind. it's part of frank's "conceptual continuity". the same people, names, themes show up all over the place in different forms in his music. thus, it's all connected.
Hahaha the FCU (frank cinematic universe) that is so damn cool lol
One of the mammy nuns in Thing-Fish is called Sister Potato-Head Bobby Brown.
yeah. that whole album is full of conceptual continuity stuff. i think it's an album best heard after hearing the other versions of all those songs. so freaking funny.
Potato headed Bobby was a friend of mine.... He opened three of his eyes in the food stamp line open four of his eyes In the food stamp line He opened five of his eyes in the food stamp lining open six of his eyes in the food stamp line. he said she might be the devil..... But she sure was fine.
Frank's music is other worldly. It is exciting to see you jump down the rabbit hole. I feel Frank is one of the artists where you never hear it all and there is always something new from him found. It is always difficult losing someone, especially to Cancer. The best way in my experience to heal is to talk about it, embrace the memories and share the stories. We keep them alive by celebrating their memories and sharing their passions.
🙏
Frank Zappa music is like a movie for your ears.
Captain Beefheart, credited as Bloodshot Rollin' Red, plays "Harmonica, when present" on the album, but not vocals. Johnny "Guitar" Watson sings on this album, on the song you just reacted to as well as another killer track - the next one - titled Andy.
Johnny Guitar Watson was playing in the 50s when teenage Frank started taking notice of great R&B guitar playing. 20 years later, Frank got his early hero to play on his album, and again 9 years later in 1984 to sing the hilarious "In France" as well as participation on THING-FISH.
It's pretty cool that Frank could connect with his musical hero and, through Frank's fame in the business, bring Johnny to a wider audience.

You go, Tigress!
That's the Cap'n on harmonica.
You might think their dumb and lonely but you're wrong cuz their love is strong.
Hey Richie! Hope you enjoyed the video my friend. Sorry it took so long to get up lol
As a drummer you should probably check out Andy from this album, if you haven't already, you might enjoy the drum work on it
pretty cool that you played evelyn along with san berdino, the two go together for some odd reason, and the abrupt transition belongs there.... btw this entire album is absolutely worth a listen, one of the most musically solid albums top to bottom, by FZ or anyone else of the rock era, for my tastes at least
thanks for all the Zappa dude, & bless you for still going on despite all. The album "One Size Fits All". is such a great album. At festivals in the U.K. I love to spin two of his rare single 45's. "Big Leg Emma" an early tune with the Mothers & the awesome "Dancing Fool" both well worth your attention.
My Favorite Love Song❤😂
From my favorite Zappa album "One Size Fits All."
One Size Fits All was the first Zappa album I purchased with my teenage money.
It was the new album in '75 when I was 15.
Prior to that, my exposure and instant indoctrination into Zappa's Universe was having Fillmore East and Billy The Mountain played for me by my 17-year-old brother's friend, who was a fan.
Here's the thing though; this album is a big departure from "dirty Frank" of the Flo & Eddie Mothers, but I took to this album nonetheless and started buying everything I could find.
This, being the first Zappa album I bought, remains my favorite. Killer music from start to finish.
are you familiar with Murry from Australia?
@@bwana-ma-coo-bah425
Not sure. What street does he live on?
@@Royale_with_Cheeze hah very good,

I know you travel a lot. Next time you're on a flight and see someone who looks obviously foreign, maybe from India, ask that person if he's from India and when he says, "Why, yes!" Ask him what street. It's a funny thing.
I'm gonna listen to the rest of this album for sure! I love the grime and the funk. Frank was just all over the decades doing all this crazy different shit but it's all just frank at the end of the day. Fuckin wild bro🤣🤣🤣
You need to listen to The Purple Lagoon on the Live in New York album .This is from a 65 year old Zappa addict been listening since the 70s
Breaking into a shuffle to end it was used by the old Fleetwood Mac a lot. They did it in the original Black Magic Woman for one.
Excellent Song, whole album is FIRE!! One of his TOP TEN Albums.
I'm definitely gonna listen to more of this album then. The style here Is undeniable. I really dig it.
You know Frank has 62 albums, maybe top 20 lol.
@@lesblatnyak5947 Honestly, I have been saying Zappa's top 10 for a long time, but I really have of his 15 albums in my Top 10. Depends on the mood..!
62 albums ? We know most people listen to the same 15 albums.
Beefheart on harmonica. RIP Frank my hero
Way to go Ritchie. I search for a reaction to San Ber'dino and you delivered.
Richie is the man. He's shown me some great music and I really appreciate it ❤️🙌
@@L33Reacts I enjoyed your reaction. First time I've seen your channel.
I'm glad you enjoyed it Randy. I've discovered a metric shit ton of amazing music on this channel. Videos for days. Thank you for watching my friend!
@@L33Reacts you may watch these things everyday, but have you seen the Zildgian Live with Thomas Pridgen? Every drummer should react to it. 🙂
How about Yusef Dayes (one of my favorite drummers)? As a drummer, you should also react to Domi and JD Beck's Sniff.
"He handles Chaos so well..." Indeed he does. This is one of my favourite FZ tracks. Thank you for honouring his passing. Frank was and always will be the most important person in my life.
I'm glad I could do the least thing possible and make a reaction video but it's all I can do for him. He definitely changed a lot of people's lives for the better and he will never be forgotten. I feel honored to have discovered him recently
Keeping his music alive and letting a new generation hear it, is so important. @@L33Reacts
And, yes, Captain Beefheart is on this track. Harmonica (and maybe vocals at the end).
Johnny Guitar Watson is fabulous in this track, so talented ! great reaction !
Captain Beefheart (as Bloodshot Rollin' Red) on harmonica!
hug to a good one.
now you need to do the supercharged live version from ‘Baby Snakes’, starring Adrian Belew’s head as Bobby’s potato
Good choice these 2 tracks. “Arf, she said.”
Did I miss you reacting to “Billy the Mountain”?? The very first song I ever heard of Frank’s with Flo and Eddie (aka The Turtles)
it is Vliet (Beefheart) on harmonica ("Bloodshot rollin' red").
"ZULCH is the auto works" - it's still there last I checked... (since renamed to Big Z Auto Works).
You are perceptive for so new to the Zappa universe...Frank composed music with this motto... Anything, Anytime, Anyplace, For No Reason At All... AAAFNRAA for short...
IMO LL33Reacts is especially perceptive **because** he's new to this shit. Giving us immediate, honest reactions. Experts get so BORING!! I was impressed that LL33Reacts saw "San Ber'dino" was a strong South/West song. I'm a Brit, still learning US geography, but I always felt "San Ber'dino" had a southern raunch (cf Allman Brothers ... y'know Frank covered "Whipping Post"?). Big thing for me is FZ was polemically "art/abstract", but he never forgot the sheer power of the groove downside. Getting in Johnny "Guitar" Watson - an amazing bolt from Texas blues into Hollywood schmaltz and funk - was genius. Rock and Abstraction go together. MUSIC IS COMPLETE.
@@benwatson8244 Saw Whipping Post in 81... The thing is about San Bernardino (lol), it is only 60 miles down the freeway from Los Angeles, but it is another world and indeed "country"... San Ber'dino, the song, is definitely a Texas blues style but Frank gives it the eyebrows with his breaks and solos... You have to believe there was a guy at the San Ber'dino Jail in 1965 with a mishapen head named Bobby...
“Mothers” is Zappa - the various incarnations of the Mothers were ‘Zappa’ - Frank’s music, musicians all hired by Frank, etc. - same as was always the case - from ‘65 to ‘88, band wise. 😎

Nice to see this again.
Great choice including Evelyn as the intro

Who else but Frank would work the word arf into the lyrics three separate times on a single album?
Nobody, that's who.
Adrian Belew on vocals

I like this song and the album "One Size Fits All", I'm usually not a big fan of 70's Zappa but I think it's his best 70's album. Nice reaction, always a pleasure
No matter it is a Friday at the begining of the week, THIS is the right day! Thanks! And soon you will have an occasion for a birthday...
Zappa any day... .works for me lol and yeah Richie told me his birthday is coming up soon too so I will do one then too.
at this point in his career there was no difference between a mothers album and a Zappa solo album, I think the only reason he used the name was that he could release many albums in one year (his average is 2-3 albums a year)
God Bless Frank Zappa. I had no idea it had been that long since his passing. His mind was an open book he never finished of his thinking when it came to composing music and lyrics, some of his lyrics are funny as hell. Nevertheless, he was a great talent and contributor to music. Some people might say he was out there or crazy. I thought he was intelligent, understanding, and passionate about music. I only wish I could have had just a chance to hang out and ask him a few questions. Rest in Peace Frank Zappa !!!!!
I don't think FZ ate all those cookies. He was thin haha FZ forever!
