Just remember, AI "art" isnt art. Its just AI-generated images.
edit: wow i was not expecting this to get this much attention but this is just my opinion and it doesn't really matter if you agree or not :)
another edit: I said this bc AI doesn't make its own art, instead it merges a bunch of other art pieces which is more like generating the art. The first definition that shows up when you search up art definition is "the expression or application of *human* creative skill and imagination, typically..." I don't think a robot is a human, do u?

Ai art is someone with an overactive imagination but absolutely no artistic background, they probably couldn’t draw anything freehand from mind or reference, but they’re good with promoting or telling a machine what to do in order to generate results. There’s absolutely no effort given to create “Ai art” and the market is over saturated with it. You can tell it’s Ai a lot of the time. If an actual artist wants to use Ai to compliment their creations and make it easier for them, I’m all for it! Anyone who’s a legit artist needs to be compensated in perpetuity for the use of their art in Ai training. If your work is online, it’s been scrapped to teach Ai!

Pinterest isn't meant to just be a art site. It's essentially for anything. Also it's not fair to force people's morals on others. Imagine if they banned Republicans for example from social media sites. Or hatsune miku music?
I dk agree sites for art alone shouldn't have ai art. Because they are different

    • @wwarae
      @wwarae 2 месяца назад

Playing devil's advocate, websites also belong to private companies and can enforce their TOS (terms of service) mostly as they see fit as they have you agree to them when you sign up for the site, so if AI images are no longer allowed (along with anything else not allowed on the platform), that's entirely in their right to enforce that. It's not trampling on anyone's rights because everyone has the right to find a different website/ platform, so I argue your comparison to politics doesn't quite work here because pinterest =/=the government.
Agreed though, artists right now are desperately trying to find a new platform because everywhere is just FULL of AI. By the time I find references made by real people, I'm too irritated to draw anything. Filters don't work because they're not reliable and most people just lie on tags for views lol.@@sussbob

I agree. I had a class where we had to find ways to utilise AI in the game development process. My group was making a ttrpg, and I was the artist for it. One way I found to use AI was to make a sketch, slap it in a AI sketch renderer program and then render it based on the coloring the ai gave me. (pretty much like a coloring book where I used the AI image as a palette, idk how to explain it well)
Its not a perfect solution and I haven't been using it since that class, but we needed colored images, I am best at black and white stuff, so AI became a good tool for me to skip the more difficult part of choosing the right colors. The images we used were still mostly my work, I rendered them, only the colors were taken from AI.

Zepn1 made a great video about Pinterest aswell. They went over some points about Pinterest is a lot chiller place to post your art and let it grow with time compared to short-lived posts on Instagram for example. And there is a community on Pinterest, it’s just a lot harder to come by. I noticed several pins i saved from a few years ago had been uploaded by me and i could change the descriptions etc when i have never uploaded anything to pinterest before.
Idk if it does this when the original poster deletes their account or just the post but its stupid. I agree with almost all your reasons in this video. One thing I partly disagree with is, that I personally kind of like the the lack of community. I enjoy using Pinterest more as a tool, than a social media platform.
But I agree that the lack of comments is sometimes really sad.
Pinterest actually had little art communities but they did everything to destroy them. There used to be kind of a story feature at the top of your feed were it was possible to see the newest post of the people you follow but they removed it. There are also private messages and Group chats, but the notifications don't work and they also seem not really developed. There was also a feature, that made people comment with pictures which let people show of the art they made inspired by this pin.
All of these features would be great to create a sense of community but like another comment has already stated they are probably focusing more on being a search engine than a social media.

I would argue that it has WAY too many communities, so much that a lot of content you’ll come across has a great chance of going unnoticed simply due to the sheer amount of content that exists on the site. and like you said, Pinterest isn’t made like other social media platforms like instagram, twitter, etc, nor do people use it with the same intention. 99% of people guaranteed primarily use Pinterest just to create boards, look at, and save images, there is no necessity to be active and interactive because it’s simply not an app that operates like one that needs that. people kind of just view Pinterest as a better and aesthetically organized version of google.

I've always looked at Pinterest as a "Google for images only". Even before the AI wave, Pinterest was just "if you find an image on whatever website, you can Pin it, and now you'll always have a catalogue of images to refer to instead of having to remember the website it came from."
I find it odd when people comment on a Pin asking the Pinner what they did for this amazing background or colors or whatever, because it's so obvious the Pinner isn't the original artist. Even if a Pinner is the original artist of the image, I would imagine they put it up on Pinterest as a way for others to more easily find it - and maybe to promote their own website as a description.
I don't think Pinterest was ever meant to be a community, so I don't really know why there is a comment section.
I've never tried to make a Pin of my own, so I don't know if the Pinner gets an alert when there's a new comment like you would in a community.
It is also clear that most Pinners nowadays are, as you say, just using it to put out their AI images. Probably because more established art communities have rules that makes AI art posting more complicated than it is on Pinterest.
Those are my thoughts, as you wanted. Have a nice day! :)

Yeah, Pinterest is a social media. And even with all these ‘problems’, it’s still the best social media platform for me. If anyone wants communities, they can go to other places, there are millions with ‘communities’. I like the fact that it is pictures-videos-focused. There’s no trends, nor is there city-like hustle and bustle. People need to slow down and relax.
I do hate the AI pics though.

  • @Nobody-gm9si
    @Nobody-gm9si 2 месяца назад +2

About the community aspect . . . Pinterest took that away years ago. The app had a community bubble on the top of the homepage so that you would get a notification from the individual you followed that they posted something in their own bubble. It was such a neat feature, too. Pinterest also had a short form content page as well (which I hated because it was strictly algorithm by what something looked like and a lot of reposts). They got rid of this, too, and people don't even remember it too much.
When there was a creator bubble, there were larger and multiple communites (there was a jewish community spreading awarness, intersectional feminist activist, art, and book posters by young teens for example), and you could interact with more people who loved the same content, art, and posters as you did in the comments.
EVERYONE was INCREDIBLY upset when Pinterest got rid of the bubble notifications because a lot of us dedicated not completely artsy users (probably younger teens lets be honest) had lost a social media community that didn't need instagram and tiktok downloaded.
And there is your short history of no community on pinterest (unless you find the whisper girls on pinterest).

Fun fact: I rarely bump across AI art on Pinterest. And when I do, it's so bad that it's impossible to use as a reference.
(For example, those examples you showed were terrible. They didn't even follow the basic rules of shape separation in character design. But yeah, the color choice is... interesting. Clean and without surprises or creativity, but it works... kinda.)
But...but... I like that Pinterest is not a social media but just a library. I'm pretty fed up with social media and I want to go to a place to check references without interacting. There's a ton of other places doing this job, from Artstation to Instagram and DeviantArt.

I think there's a lack of community in Pinterest because It gives you an overload of images so it's really easy to scroll through several in one swipe and it's not as intimate. It's primarily been used for references, ideas and aesthetics. I don't come across quite as much AI on Pinterest because I look up real life images as references and not art itself. I would much rather use instagram or other platforms for the actual art

The simplest way to know if something is ai art is to look for the process of how it is drawn. There is always a process in most art, and traces will certainly remain that lead a trail of the process.
Ai images aren't made of layering, overlaying ect, so they don't have the same type of process that real art does, and it wont make sense if you look for one.
Though, this only works if you already know the techniques that digital artists use in their process.

and the fact that blocking an user doesn't block the pins from your feed is outrageous! I tried blocking these AI accounts but their pins keep appearing in recommended and in my feed???? WHY IS THE BLOCKING FOR THEN??? NOBODY MESSAGES EACH OTHER ON PINTEREST LET ME BLOCK/MUTE THE ACCOUNT!
also a smaller pet peeve of my, why is the hide button right next to the save on app??? so many times I end up hiding and loosing a cool pin I meant to save, they should be opposites on the wheel.

if you feel pinterest has no sense of community, you really need to look up particular interests and save pins. You will naturally get recommended similar posts with myriads of comments. There's bronies, girlbloggers, gamers, NHL fans (im not kidding), chris cornell thirst trap fancam editors. Even if it's the nichest thing ever, you'll find it and people who like that thing you like.

I’ve been using Pinterest since at least 2015 and although I still love it, I am becoming more and more frustrated. Besides AI images and ads, what really gets on my nerves is that I am constantly getting pins banned for “violating” Pinterest rules. I have an anatomy board and they banned old Greek statues for being “porn”, they deleted an illustration of a vampire anime girl who was drinking from blood bags for “violence”, they also flagged a pin of a girl in bikini, when in parallel they put ads for bras and lingerie ! What really frustrates me is that it has now become so easy to “violate” their rules, just show arms with muscles and it’s already tagged as content for adults. The worse I had was a pin of a little doll that was absolutely completely dressed but it was light pink…they flagged it as porn! I was like WTF??? Mind you those are not MY pins I just pin them in folders, but now I have to second guess if they are going to ban the pin. It has become ridiculous.

I personally like that Pinterest has no community. Pinterest for me is just finding memes, and tips for art, I'm not there to discuss and be in a community with someone. The fact that there is no "trending" or "likes" or whatever it is, works for me, because I'm not pressured to become like them. It's a library of whatever it is you like, not another mind-consuming social media that makes you depressed because everyone has so many followers and friends. Not everything should be social media, and I'm glad for it. Pinterest is social media, but with everything that makes it bad taken away. No one is striving to get followers, likes, views. No one tries to be better than someone else. It's just a library.
Edit: ... That *is* a lot of ads you're getting, I have no clue what happened but I probably get like a quarter of that XD

Honestly the lack of credit to original artists makes me so irrationally mad. Like, I see a very beautiful drawing and I really like the art style, therefore I want to study the artists technique and style to incorporate it in my kwn works however the drawing I saw was uploaded by a reposter who gave absolutely no credit to the original artist themselves. Not to mention that even when the comments ARE turned on, everyone just praises the art as if the reposter originally created it and when u ask who the original artist actually is or when u tell them they should give credit they completely ignore you??? I absolutely despise that because you can rarely ever actually find the original creator, because no one gives three flying fucks about them.

IKR???!!! God that's one of the BIGGEST PROBLEMS when it comes to Pinterest, 98% of the time literally nobody bothers to credit, so I have to rely on the comments but it sucks when comments are turned off. It really helps when there's credit because then I can check out who the artist is and their social media platforms. There's only so much reverse image search can do... 😞

I’m not on social media as often as I use to be but this explains a lot of what I see on Pinterest. Idk if the photography used on Pinterest is AI generated but I try to use that instead of already drawn art. Anywhere from what appears to be Instagram models posting to certain themes like fairy core photography. Those tend to seem legit and have helped me in my art journey immensely. Still no credit given on these tho, at least not often.

Everything you said was facts. Another thing I hate about Pinterest is when I’m looking for images with certain aesthetics, but in order to see black people in these aesthetics I have to also type black woman/man alongside whatever else I type. Even when looking for curly or braided/locs hairstyles. And when I find black people, most of them are lighter skinned or actually biracial. I’m not saying it’s impossible, but Pinterest definitely promotes some types of beauty over others.
