This has been one of my biggest gripes for a while now, I noticed soon as I follow someone after seeing them contantly on my fyp, I would no longer see them again unless I go to my following tab like mentioned. That makes me want to follow people less these days because I want a mix of new content along with seeing content from who I'm following. Tiktok used to have a great balance at first but now the algorithm is terrible. I now also barely see art on my fyp, which now as an art content creator myself, it's extremely disheartening (especially when tiktok is the platform that's doing the best to get me exposure out of all the platforms I'm on T_T)

I’m turning 19 and the age thing SUCKS. I started drawing in 2021 but really started trying to improve in the middle of 2023,I feel like I haven’t gone anywhere and younger artists are skyrocketing. Feeling like I should be farther than I am while I haven’t put in enough work for it,but since I’m aging I should be better or I’m doing it for nothing. Pushing past the mindset is so difficult

To be honest, there's not much I can give in terms of advice, but it's comforting to know you're not alone in feeling this way.
What really matters in the end, you enjoy art. Da Vinci, Monet, Van Gogh, they all started late in life. Compared to them, we're young.

I get the sense that Tik Tok has lowered the “oh my god I should be x at y age!”. life is only just beginning at 19, 20+ We’re led to believe that everything jn life happens before we are 20 but this isn’t true, that’s an illusion sold to us by insta and tik tok I get really sad when young adults feel they have to fret about being too old, I think it’s gotten worse over the years cause of social media. I didn’t do anything with myself for years untill suddenly at 25 I got my shit together and did a full speed run getting a degree, a relationship, taking learning art seriously and starting a career in tech…I wasn’t too old for it then and I wouldn’t be too old for it now! The main problem with all social media platforms are the people. Everyone is trying to out-do everyone else. It’s become so oversaturated with supposed “artists” trying to be art influencers instead of actual artists. I follow SO many artists on Instagram and so few of them really draw anything anymore. Instead they just makes reels complaining about lack of reach/views/followers/how terrible the “algorithm” is etc… There is no [Social] there is just media. Few people have real conversations with each other unless it’s self promotion or they feel it could benefit their own growth.
I’ve been drawing for years - and I won’t lie, I don’t always have a perfect relationship with my art - but the creation of art comes before anything else in regards to my own social media account. I feel like so many people want to become artists without learning to love drawing first? It doesn’t matter how good you are at something if you hate doing it - and I don’t mean disliking the result - I mean the mark making.
I find so much joy in just picking up a pencil and drawing lines and shapes and patterns and sometimes it turns into something else and sometimes it’s sparks an idea and sometimes it doesn’t. But that feeling of joy is what remains. And that’s what should always be important. But this overwhelming desire for popularity seems to overshadow the joy for creation - it’s the reason so many people turn to AI because they don’t care to make art, they just want the money and popularity that they expect a good artist to have…
Also in answer to your question, I don’t think I have any weird food combos? Apparently having mayonnaise instead of ketchup with chips (aka fries) is a faux pas… I also sometimes just have vegetables and gravy as a meal because I hate cooking (anything that takes more than 15 minutes to prepare is a real chore).
TL;DR Too bad, you need to learn to read, remember? 😂

I’m a traditional artist and over the years it feels like the algorithms don’t care about traditional artists. Even when I do look up traditional art and scroll for hours later on my for you is still full of digital artists when that does not help me in the slightest. and you’re right artists are basically in influencers which is why I don’t post my art in like anymore anymore. Cause I genuinely started to hate making art cause I knew I would have to post it. Now I just make art for myself and maybe some friends and I enjoy it more. I don’t wanna be an artist who posts things I just wanna make

The 1st grader hasn’t even been taught how to do long division and being yelled at by the teacher isn’t even helping them learn how to do long division which is just like beginner artists being absolutely flamed in the comments for not putting the nose in the correct position instead of them learning where the nose is supposed to be to go.

Thank you for the summary on the state of things on current art social media communities (or lack there of), I’ve been so out of the loop!
I haven’t posted my work (outside of my website) to social media in 3+ years. During college, it was just so draining to fight the algorithm, and it became easy to conflate likes and engagement with my artistic talent and self worth. To anyone who thinks they ‘have’ to post their art to be successful, or to make it a career, it’s not always needed. I now work full time for a game studio as a game artist, and not once did they care or ask about any social media accounts I might have. If you want to be a ‘content creator’ or a commission artist, then social media can work, but it’s not the only option for you if you want to make it. Also, if you just want to post for fun, try to separate yourself/ the fun you get from it from the engagement, it will save your mental health in the long run.

Also great video, I’m a young artist and the thought that I might one day accidentally create a character that 12 year old girls on TikTok thirst over is enough to keep me off the app.

You have have said everything I wanted to! I appreciate your bravery for actually going through with it and trying to fix the problem. I also noticed the lack of creativity in the drawings being produced. For example, same women same men and same things in general. You are allowed to draw them but they do it too much. You touched on this but through art styles and content “farms” and I appreciate it. I wanted to express my thoughts and how I received the video. I’m glad you even mentioned how people are more drawn to “good” art because it’s aesthetically pleasing not because it has a distinct style. No I am not sayin group can draw like this I am saying good and bad art don’t exist. It’s just art isn’t art anymore. At this point I’m repeating you but again it’s been in my mind forever 😅
We shouldn’t be competitive but creative !

I am 25 turning 26 soon, and i just picked up drawing a few weeks ago learning the fundamentals perspective anatomy etc. I also dont really like social media overall because it promotes an unhealthy way of viewing yourself be it how you look or in this case how your art is perceived when it actuality i think 99% of people that started drawing probably did not start drawing with the intention to impress random human beings on the internet well atleast thats what i think anyway i will be drawing for aslong as its enjoyable to me. dont let random people bring you down because of your age or because of the way your art looks !

About the age thing, it’s stupid because even if you have been drawing from age 1 to 20 that does not mean you are automatically a pro. Everyone grows/ blooms differently??
pewdiepie for example drew for like 100 days and now he knows how to draw anime, I’ve been drawing for a long time but didn’t see much improvement until i became an adult. Everyone’s different and it depends on how you practice and what your goals and motivations are.

Also, I put so much effort onto my drawings (6+ hours a day) and people never really care about that even my friends, that's why I HATE showing my arts on social media

People will literally show all their layers as well as do a timelapse but people still question if it's AI???

  • @amyzhu5187

As a traditional artist, that deleted IG and most of the social medias that were too distracting. I found it too overwhelming as an artist. I don’t like digital art as my style revolves around traditional (painting, sculpting with clay). As a student still, seeing the art of my generation slowly die is quite sad. Everyone is focused on digital art and like AI art. No hate, but I really don’t like the use of AI. Just my perspective on how I see artists. BUT, I have my circle of artists that share similar views. Imma go do my own art now lol.

    • @91Vault
      @91Vault 6 месяцев назад

I’m traditional as well only because i find digital tok cumbersome. To be fair Digital is just a medium that requires the same skill set and I fee abs for artists who are primarily digital because the absurd “press button get art” misconception they’ve been getting for years js now acrually true so they are lumped in with AI keyboard mashers….

hey! 👋🏻 no hate but all of you are saluting incorrectly.
📚basic knowledge: there are 3 main styles of saluting including Army, Navy, and Air Force. in this case, all of you are attempting to do a Navy salute.
❗️to do a Navy salute correctly, ALWAYS use your RIGHT hand for any salute unless unable to. (ex: if you have no right arm, you may use your left hand) position your arm at a 90 degree angle and let your palm face down towards your shoulder without making your thumb visible. keep your hand leveled to the eyebrow and do NOT look around unless you’re done. (keep in mind this is a Navy salute, Army and Air Force has a different way)✅

This is useful in the sense that I know how to make a video that does well and I usually get 1K on instagram and RUclips. On tiktok… I get hits once in awhile but mostly 250-500 views. I had to stop drawing because I burnt myself out around 2020 (graduated with an AA in Arts, even in a community college it wore me out from my passion) and have been barely been sketching in the past year. Past year, because it would be months between picking up sketchbooks and actually putting pen to paper. I lost a piece of myself, lost some of those skills I spent 14+ years learning (counting from when I could hold a pen), and I'm finally coming back to completing *something* in 2024. Burnout hit me when the industry was changing in the extremes, and before we really used the term burnout. Even from a removed perspective, I could barely keep up.
I tried for years to break through, it physically and mentally hurt to even set out my paints or hook up my digital tablet. I could be in the zone, sketching out something, excited enough to get my paints out, and then crash hard and be unable to do anything but sit there and stare at a piece I desperately want to complete yet can't. I was barely 22 when my love for art was swallowed by the academics, and I'm turning 26 soon. I know I'm still young, but art communities have been a scramble to find the youngest and most talented since I was barely a teen. We're allowed to grow older, we're allowed to grow up.
It's been rough, especially with how social medias that artists helped build a community in turning sour and bullying. The online communities are so full of trends you feel like you have to follow, as well as bashing from anyone who don't seem to get that they can just scroll on. To be honest, if I had posted regularly and grew my following when I joined TT in that same 2020 year, my creative spirit wouldn't have survived.
Well it would, I physically can't stop myself from making, but I definitely wouldn't have recovered well.
