tbf he's in the copying phase, so he may hit these shading techniques without knowing, there's a video where they found the exact AI image reference he used for the color drawings. But hey, I'm not taking out credit here, he's progress is still amazing for someone with short experience in drawing, plus it's nice to see a lot of people being inspired by his progress.

The difference between people who say they’ve been drawing for 3 years and pewdiepie is he was always actively trying to improve himself. Most people just keep drawing and don’t really think about how they could improve their art, yes it takes practice to improve your art but it also takes knowing what to practice to improve your art and learning more things about drawing.

@@jambonzer1603 I disagree, it’s not hard to find out what you need to work on by studying others work and lloking at your art yourself and seeing what you can approve upon. There are a bunch of great and amazing videos on RUclips that teach you all sorts of things, it’s up to you whether you can follow those and make improve upon your art. Discipline is something you learn not have a natural talent for, other may have an easier time but just like art it’s something you work and improve upon by fixing the errors you have with it.

It has been a while since I sat down to enjoy a Pewdiepie video, but I also remember being there back before he hit 1M subscribers. Seeing him gain new skills and enjoy/suffer the process of learning just because he wanted to was a joyful experience to watch.
This is a great video. I think all your insights and reactions to his journey are well-founded and also similar to mine-the way you point out how healthy certain habits he has are a great step in normalizing the fact that progress isn't always linear. When I watched him correct his mistakes from an earlier drawing he did, it immediately reminded me of your Tiktoks where you draw over your old painting to adjust the linework and proportions!
All in all, I think it is inspiring feat especially when he's so transparent about his struggles along the way. Whether it's to beginner artists or pros like yourself, there is something to be gained from the authenticity of his art and mindset.
I appreciate that you took the time to make this video and point out your own thoughts and even validated so much of his feelings as someone with over 3 years of art learnings under your belt. Even though I didn't know for sure if you were going to upload a reaction video, I found myself hoping you would provide some commentary about it on any platform because you're one of the first artists I always think of. You are intelligent in both critical analysis (when you pointed out Pewds' using line weight, I wouldn't have noticed it myself!) and actually applying and refining the techniques you suggest for improvement. Sorry this was a long comment. Thanks for the video as always!

    • @viyaura
      @viyaura  4 месяца назад +10

same! I remember watching him way back, so it's definitely a little bittersweet to see how far he's come and inspiring to watch him learn new skills.
a super underrated part of learning art is definitely the mindset you have to have going into it, so tysm :) and wow thank you so much for supporting me on both youtube and tiktok! I really do love adjusting linework and proportions of old paintings, I think it's a great learning process and helps you see how far you've grown as an artist hehe
totally agree as well, I found myself not really liking the works I've been doing recently. But after watching his video and noticing his healthy mindset, I not only felt inspired to keep drawing, but also to go back to the basics and do a deeper dive into learning anatomy, expressions, etc. Though im definitely nowhere near pro (but i appreciate it so much that you think so :'D)!!
i'm truly so so glad, i should be thanking you for leaving such a thoughtful comment! art is definitely a fun and challenging journey that allows a lot of self-reflection, which is scary yet very rewarding-your feelings are definitely 1000% valid! i'm happy i was able to quickly put this video together because insightful comments like yours honestly make my entire day and spark such great discussions! and no need to apologize for a longer comment, if anything, i appreciate them so much more as you took the time to write such a kind and thoughtful response :D thank YOU!!

I appreciate your perspective that any kind of practice is better than nothing. I think as a complete noob, and maybe some people will relate with me, I haven’t practiced drawing much because I am scared of learning the “wrong way” like only drawing things that are fun or copying a reference exactly. But it seems like this might not be such a bad idea as long as it can consistently get pen onto paper so I am now inspired to practice drawing more.

The time you checked at 3:20 is not the actual time it took to create the piece. It's the length of the time-lapse replay. To find out how long a piece actually took, go to the Actions tab (the wrench icon) > Canvas > Canvas Information > and Statistics to see the tracked time in the document. It's probably going to show a shorter time than you initially thought.

0:23 keep in mind pewdiepie had some art experience with photoshop art before he did RUclips which is also why when it comes to color shading he’s basically a pro. Still really impressive.

PewDiePie's video shows how much you can grow in a 100 days if you practise well, sure not everyone will reach the exact same heights as he did, but you can learn a lot. The only trouble is being consistent for 100 days.

Just to piggyback that last point, yes practice, but you can supercharge your learning by breaking it down into micro skills, then learning from a mentor (RUclips) then applying that enhanced micro skill into general practice ❤

I’ve been drawing for about 4 years and I feel like my art has stopped getting better but I also feel like I am getting better. Like I don’t draw how I want to draw. I draw eyes too big, the hair isn’t detailed enough, the shadows are done poorly, so I dunno. The only thing with my art I’m happy with is how I draw bodies which is very androgynous

I started drawing when I was 8 yo. When I was 13 a friend introduced me to the world of manga, anime and Homestuck, and I bought my first Wacom a couple of months later. I drew whenever I was inspired and spent about 18 hours with a single drawing (I hated it afterwards). At 17 yo I felt that it was a farce, I compared myself to other artists my age or even younger who were prodigies... Today I am 24 years old and since I saw Felix's video I felt a burst of inspiration again after so many years . I'm plugging my tablet in again and looking for references of things I love so I can try again.

I was so surprised with how much he progressed in his first video i started drawing again too, which i stopped doing 12 years ago because of how intense studying got at college. It also oddly makes me feel good that he is cracked at color as i am.
Sorry for the little long story i'm going to share.
The reason i started drawing in high school was because I actually always loved drawings ( i got interested in my wife because she drew as a hobby and i liked her works) but i was absolutely horrible at it, i didn't understand anatomy at all, i was only good at drawing rooms and i always got frustrated when i couldn't plaster the image on my mind onto the paper, it was seriously frustrating so i didn't last a month. But then one day our art teacher got a leave for pregnancy and the temporary teacher got us to draw rectangles in perspective, told us to pick any color and to imagine a light was shining from the perspective point. The teacher got as excited as i was happy with how the coloring turned out, she asked to show her my other works from that year. Of course i felt very ashamed at being able to to color so good but suck at drawing and I think she understood that and encouraged me and the following week she called me up as the recess bell rung, gave me an anatomy book and carefully explained me how i should use it. That very same day i started drawing every single day with very noticeable progress towards the 6th month (so a bit more than 2 times slower than felix)
Pewds vid came right at a time i was bored out of my mind with current state of gaming so i've dove into drawing and i can say i'm happy with my baby steps and how my art has become better than when i left it at 12 years ago.

@@flyingorange2482 Well, then it depends how important improving is to you. If you draw for fun and you like your art as is, that's good in itself. If you wanna improve your art then you can't just keep drawing the same thing, you need to step out of your comfort zone. Art really is kinda like going to the gym, once you're comfortable you need to push harder again and again. Some people improve naturally as they consume other art and draw new things, some people like what they do and don't change. It's all good

@@drendraleigh4722 BS. Art is nothing like gym. Gym has plan, you follow and there is results from it. Art is not only done by plan, thats why all the artists always say "YoU LeArNeD wRoNg" as soon as someone tells them how long they practiced. In the gym, a bulker can straight tell you to your face, that your body type will never get to where he is, they just can be real, instead of preaching false positivity

I always rush im not even trying to practice how to do poses or bodys or hair... SO i kept doing shoulder shots...
