I’m just waiting for a lasso tool update now :’)

It just left the beta phase recently 😊 i love the app alot compared to other ones ive tried but i do agree with you on everything! Definitely keep going at the app! Im sure theyll update here soon
it needs many many tools, instant motion or instant flow animations like werble pulse effects that would work amazingly well with the perform tool in procreateDreams, i bought it to support the developers but looking forward what they bring to the table
this app genuinely has the worst UI I have ever handled in my entire life lmao, I’m shocked at how horribly they fumbled the * user interface *. hope to see more updates on it in the future though
Great review. Have bought it because I have Procreate, should open it up and play, I’m thinking it’s early days and needs a lot of work. I just wanted to support the team because I use Procreate a lot professionally.
I think it's crazy they didn't give the option to disable the gesture controls, since they had an option to do that in regular Procreate. The number of times I've accidentally triggered the Undo gesture when I just want to zoom or rotate the canvas is headache inducing.
I bought the app since I’m studying animation and was excited to do silly little animations in my free time, however I have yet to really make anything with it cause I can’t wrap my head around the timeline feature and how to add and maneuver around the tracks as well as the flippbook feature being super clunky and difficult to use for my for some, as well as the lack of tools such as liquify and the lasso tool which I often use to correct minor errors in my work. The app also crashed on me twice while I was trying to do one of the basic starting animations we had learned in class to test out the program. In conclusion it was pretty frustrating and kind of a letdown because I manly use procreate as my main drawing program and latterly was able to do two different bouncing ball animation in it’s much simpler and frankly more limited animation assist feature 💀 I’m not sure if it’s just how my brain is wired (I have AUDHD) that me struggle with it but I have seen a lot of cool and fun stuff being made with the program already so it definitely has potential but as it is right now I’m not feeling very motivated to use it. Maybe once it gets more updates and is improved upon but I’m scared it’ll going to crash on me again 💀
I like the app (not experienced animator) and it’s been good using it to do some things. I couldn’t believe there’s no transform tools etc in flipbook mode though. They have those in adobe fresco. You need to be a much better artist than me to use that. Plus it’s too easy to accidentally mess something up with the touch gestures in the timeline. But it’s otherwise fairly intuitive and some intro videos let me into the hidden secrets. I hope they can change those things. But it’s still pretty cool and I adapted to the UI much better than other animation apps I briefly tried with timelines that made a lot less sense to me. I like using groups in the timeline.
I just bought it and it’s kinda difficult with the lack of tools but I’m praying they add more drawing features soon and make it more similar to procreate cus I’m losing my mind rn 😭😭😭
One thing is that there is a lasso tool sort of, you just circle around the thing you want to move with the "freehand" selection thing you showed, then tap the arrow button next to the selection button in the top bar to move the selected area around
Bruh i never heard about toonsquid until this moment… WHY NO ONR TOLD ME IT EXIST i already bought so many animating programs i should have just bought this one smh
Hey there! I’m really interested in trying out Procreate Dreams, and since it’s been 6 months from the release of it maybe you could do a follow-up video? See what they now have, what they have improved on, etc :) I’m sure a lot of people are in my position after initially being put off from the bad reviews
The interface, or user interface (UI) is being described correctly. It’s what we (as the user of an app) interact with. How the app visually represents to us what it is we as users can do with the app. So on Facebook the UI is your feed, and everything you can click on is encompassed in this. The UI mostly refers to the tools to get you from point A to point B. So think: menus, and visual things you interact with.
As a Procreate Dreams new user that also has procreate, I was expecting at least most of the tools as procreate, but they don’t even have Merge Layers!
what absolutely baffled me is that there is no way to change pressure sensitivity. No lasso tool. I can't even change the order of my layers... and the worst of all, in flipbook mode (wthen you use the floating window to flip trough frames) doesn't have any options to make a frame longer. I always have to quit that window, find my track, make the change, find which frame I left off with, turn off the big window view, and place the floating one to where it is comfortable for me to have it... I wish they had a discord or some polls where we can suggest things. (If there is I'm glad, but I haven't heard of it. At least not one where they respond and tell us that "oh yea we'll add that soon")
Don’t worry bc procreate dreams will add more features like procreate features because the only thing I noticed that they added clipping mask and also moving layers‼️🙏
As long as I have it, it will improve, but yeah the problem was the lack of the lasso, that was my first annoying thing that was missing. But they have it slated to be included in the first, main update
I want to use the rig and bones system to animate 2D sprites without redrawing every position. I heard this can do it, but also I can do it in Blender.
@@davidagiel8130 Do you do 2D animation in Blender? If so, is it super difficult to learn? I can do some 3D modeling, but have never looked into animation/grease pencil/etc.
I’ve noticed that I can only undo like 3 times before it suddenly undoes a bunch of actions… like bruh. I wanted to just do five things, not my ENTIRE FRAME
It's funny seeing people say "are you an animator, why are you reviewing this" when the product's whole advertisement basis was making animation accessible to anyone. They should have let the software cook for another year. The artists they commissioned to make marketing material for them I guess were too spineless to actually be honest about the software to Procreate. Procreate itself is a better animation tool than Procreate Dreams.
PS. This comment is on Feb 12, 2024. Still sucks shit. Bought it day 1 because I (which I will never again for any company) believed in procreate due to how good their last product was and has been, only to get some sorry husk of an app that realistically should’ve just been an add on to procreate (one I would’ve gladly paid for) rather than its own app. It’s been months and they have made barely to no updates.
I think it has a ton of potential - but it was released too early. It felt severely unfinished - especially for frame by frame animations. I continue using toonsquid. Sucks that I bought it before it was finished- and their media isn't prioritizing the lasso tool. Supposedly it's coming up, but not in the next few updates
Not sure if I was doing it wrong but found I could only put 2 HD movie files in layered on top of each other. Any more videos would snap to the side and wouldn't go onto a third layer. Haven't done much in it just yet but seems like a good app but has a lot to build on. Also like ProCreate at the beginning, it seems to be missing text.
My review in 3 words: Just get Toonsquid It is better at being an animated procreate than Dreams at this moment. I love Procreate but it is a work in progress.
Just got toon squid after reading this, and all the recent toonsquid app store reviews that say “i bought this after being disappointed with procreate dreams and i love it” haha!
The worst for me is not being able to simply loop an animation inside a track. Having to copy and paste it several times to do loops. Then if you want to change anything, you have to go back to delete all copies, do your changes, copy again.
4:30 this part ikr I can’t move the screen size in detailed way and that kinda made me scream in the night while trying to make some animations. It’s such a great app but… some small parts are silly.
A good review! I agree with the “3”. Lasso may be hidden, I moved to Procreate from Manga Studio and it’s more intuitive, for some reason Procreate likes to hide useful tools and features, and I really miss SAVE file! I’m a total newbie on Dreams, but so far it feels more comfortable in use for artists than iMovie or FinalCut.
They made it too reliant on gestures and it’s confusing I WANT TO PRESS THE UNDO BUTTON NOT TAP THE DAMN SCREEN TWICE EACH TIME PLEASE Istg we just wanted procreate with a timeline and ability to import audio I would’ve been happy if procreatedreams was just that
Is your video HDR or something? The bright color are so blinding. I have never encounter youtube video as bright as yours lol, my screen suddenly on steroid only on the video part. I check other HDR video but it does not behave the same
YOOo I just figured out that you are Canadian, I wondered why you said you hadn't lived in the US but didn't have a British accent, so it makes a LOT of sense
it's possible! tbh if you want to do frame by frame animation, it's best to make the keys in procreate, tranfer them to dreams and make in-betweens there
you were on the lasso, as you were saying it didn't have it, I believe. In the video, you were circling the word "freehand" with your pencil, thats the lasso in procreate
I’ve been having trouble importing my audio (I’ve tried lots of tutorials and this app, and it won’t convert to mp3) which I need to make animatics It sucks you can’t draw on masked videos either for the audio. I thought I saw one of their main things was you could animate on top of videos? It’s lacking features overall and I too was disappointed when I payed 26 dollars for it which is a lot more money than it should be, in its current state anyways
Sure it’s not perfect. It’s still a one time purchase. In the end I’m glad it released sooner rather than later because I know that all of the missing stuff will be added in with time. Despite it being unfinished, I was still able to animate way above the level I’ve been doing because it was released early. :D
I use procreate dreams and I agree with the person that said it's feels like a beta version and those finger movements... I cried and just gave up on that. This app has promise but the hidden functions and the finger gestures puts me off sometimes.
Is there a comparative iOS animation app for that price? I also appreciate the companies AI stance, which should be common, but unfortunately isn’t, so will continue to support them
The fact that it launched without Liquify and especially the Lasso tool is wild. Those tools are basically a MUST HAVE already

The app is really incredible in many ways and as a person with a couple years of experience now animating in Flipaclip this app is a HUGE upgrade (Especially for only 20 dollars!?) however I CANNOT live without a lasso tool and it is quite glitchy. I’m just waiting for a lasso tool update now :’)
Hopefully they add lasso tool soon it would improve it a lot
It's very nice to come across a video that completely encapsulated my first experience with Dreams. It was like hearing back my own exact thoughts and experiences lol.
It just left the beta phase recently 😊 i love the app alot compared to other ones ive tried but i do agree with you on everything!
Definitely keep going at the app! Im sure theyll update here soon
it needs many many tools, instant motion or instant flow animations like werble pulse effects that would work amazingly well with the perform tool in procreateDreams, i bought it to support the developers but looking forward what they bring to the table
no lasso tool is fucking insane
this app genuinely has the worst UI I have ever handled in my entire life lmao, I’m shocked at how horribly they fumbled the * user interface *. hope to see more updates on it in the future though
🥰 the “interface” tangent is everything
I bought the app since I’m studying animation and was excited to do silly little animations in my free time, however I have yet to really make anything with it cause I can’t wrap my head around the timeline feature and how to add and maneuver around the tracks as well as the flippbook feature being super clunky and difficult to use for my for some, as well as the lack of tools such as liquify and the lasso tool which I often use to correct minor errors in my work. The app also crashed on me twice while I was trying to do one of the basic starting animations we had learned in class to test out the program. In conclusion it was pretty frustrating and kind of a letdown because I manly use procreate as my main drawing program and latterly was able to do two different bouncing ball animation in it’s much simpler and frankly more limited animation assist feature 💀
I’m not sure if it’s just how my brain is wired (I have AUDHD) that me struggle with it but I have seen a lot of cool and fun stuff being made with the program already so it definitely has potential but as it is right now I’m not feeling very motivated to use it. Maybe once it gets more updates and is improved upon but I’m scared it’ll going to crash on me again 💀
I think that the BIGGEST thing missing is A FREAKING TUTORIAL I HAD TO WATCH SO MANY TUTORIALS JUST TO HAVE A BASIC UNDERSTANDING
I especially enjoy the "tic tac toe" function xD great video though.
One thing is that there is a lasso tool sort of, you just circle around the thing you want to move with the "freehand" selection thing you showed, then tap the arrow button next to the selection button in the top bar to move the selected area around
It’s ass. For any newcomers, give it some time until they update it and make it actually usable
Yeah, i really don’t like this trend in software and games with companies release broken crap and then “fixing” it over the next year with “updates”.
Watching this video taught me what liquify was. Thank you. ❄️
I'VE BEEN ANIMATING WITH PROCREATE AND I GET TO TRY THIS, THIS SPRING SO EXCITED NOMORE LAYER LIMIT THAT KILLS MY HEVAY DETAIL ANIMATIONS
The CapCut editing is just MWAH 😍
I think I’m gonna stick with toonsquid. It’s only $10 and the ui is very easy to get used to.
Bruh i never heard about toonsquid until this moment… WHY NO ONR TOLD ME IT EXIST
i already bought so many animating programs i should have just bought this one smh
So think: menus, and visual things you interact with.
i keep trying to find the lasso tool, it’s definitely something the app needs
As a Procreate Dreams new user that also has procreate, I was expecting at least most of the tools as procreate, but they don’t even have Merge Layers!
I made a few animations on the app now, and lasso tool is 100% a must have for this app!
4:48 OMG you are JUST TOO GOOD AT ANIMATION for a beginner! A head turn is more difficult thank you would think 😅
what absolutely baffled me is that there is no way to change pressure sensitivity.
I was SO excited for it and SO let down. They better add a ton of features in the near future
Don’t worry bc procreate dreams will add more features like procreate features because the only thing I noticed that they added clipping mask and also moving layers‼️🙏
love how they're listening to our feedback!
@@viyaurafrom what I’ve been keeping track of, it seems to be weekly to biweekly updates so I have hope
@@viyaura FR THO
Ur art is so beautiful! I’m glad you’ve made this video… it helps me think of whether i should purchase the app…
thank you! its definitely worth considering but i haven't used it since making this video tbh
Oh man, that’ll be a game changer if they implement armatures/rigging for 2D animation in Procreate Dreams!
@@Majotsukai yeah, I’m not interested until they add it in, I can already do frame by frame anywhere else.
@@davidagiel8130 Do you do 2D animation in Blender? If so, is it super difficult to learn? I can do some 3D modeling, but have never looked into animation/grease pencil/etc.
Blender don’t have an app tho 😅
The fact u sound like sisu from raya and the last dragon movie (my favourite) I love u already
It has potential but I can’t use it on my current iPad ,,,, it always crashes
Are u gonna try out toonsquid??
Lmao get ‘em Deku
I think it has a ton of potential - but it was released too early. It felt severely unfinished - especially for frame by frame animations. I continue using toonsquid. Sucks that I bought it before it was finished- and their media isn't prioritizing the lasso tool. Supposedly it's coming up, but not in the next few updates
I 100% agree. I seriosuly can’t comprehend releasing any drawing app without a lasso tool. 1995 MSPaint has a lasso tool 😅
Flipaclip be like: HOW DARE SOMEONE BE THE SAME AS ME, WITHOUT LASSO TOOL, AND PAID!?
Not sure if I was doing it wrong but found I could only put 2 HD movie files in layered on top of each other. Any more videos would snap to the side and wouldn't go onto a third layer. Haven't done much in it just yet but seems like a good app but has a lot to build on. Also like ProCreate at the beginning, it seems to be missing text.
Saying it sucks when it only costs $26 is crazy. It’s great value. But more expensive software if you expect something perfectly polished.
My review in 3 words:
Just get Toonsquid
It is better at being an animated procreate than Dreams at this moment. I love Procreate but it is a work in progress.
Just got toon squid after reading this, and all the recent toonsquid app store reviews that say “i bought this after being disappointed with procreate dreams and i love it” haha!
To mention the comment about interface: interface is the layout of the app.
i literally can't find the undo button WHERE IS IT WHY IS IT SO HARD TO FIIIIIIND
Tip: for the lasso copy a layer and erase around the area you would lasso
0:17 Procreate Dreams is made by the Creators of Procreate not the users...
oops yes ur right i didn't even realize
I literally just wanted to use a procreate with all of its tool but with a good animation tool. dreams is not that.
yup! would've been better and more feature-complete as a procreate add-on instead of
The worst for me is not being able to simply loop an animation inside a track. Having to copy and paste it several times to do loops. Then if you want to change anything, you have to go back to delete all copies, do your changes, copy again.
Ik!
Hi, 11 months later did they added new features? Are Lasso and liquify still missing?
4:30 this part ikr I can’t move the screen size in detailed way and that kinda made me scream in the night while trying to make some animations. It’s such a great app but… some small parts are silly.
A good review! I agree with the “3”. Lasso may be hidden, I moved to Procreate from Manga Studio and it’s more intuitive, for some reason Procreate likes to hide useful tools and features, and I really miss SAVE file!
I’m a total newbie on Dreams, but so far it feels more comfortable in use for artists than iMovie or FinalCut.
They made it too reliant on gestures and it’s confusing
I WANT TO PRESS THE UNDO BUTTON NOT TAP THE DAMN SCREEN TWICE EACH TIME PLEASE
Istg we just wanted procreate with a timeline and ability to import audio I would’ve been happy if procreatedreams was just that
does anyone get the impression that the app got rushed to meet holiday demands? So many crucial tools and QoL things are missing ...
Can’t wait to get it ✨✨
let me know how it goes!
Do you have a video with a link to the dreamy sketch brush? Or would you be okay with sharing the link with me? Btw love your art!
You are such a good artist anyway. I wish i could draw like you .
FR LIKE I DOWNLOAD IT AND FIRST THING I SAID: Where tf is the lasso tool?!
IS THE IMPORT TOOL GOOD 😭?!
its literally all I need to know I can’t understand adobe and I ain’t paying for FlipaClip Plus
I just bought an animator's guide book. "The Animator's Survival Kit", bu Richard Williams. It costs more but it's amazingly simple to read.
Mandatory reading for any animator 😊
Is your video HDR or something? The bright color are so blinding. I have never encounter youtube video as bright as yours lol, my screen suddenly on steroid only on the video part. I check other HDR video but it does not behave the same
sorry i have no idea, it looks fine on mine :o ill try and fix it for the next video!
@@viyaurano worries, also thanks for the review.
@@viyauraI think it’s only on smartphones/tablets, HDR video can cause the screen to go max brightness
The guides tool… I have to import so many things in from procreate because I love doing isometric stuff.
You know how u got dreamy sketch brush can u use it on adobe fresco or not?
YOOo I just figured out that you are Canadian, I wondered why you said you hadn't lived in the US but didn't have a British accent, so it makes a LOT of sense
When you said it coasts you one burger menu for the app I was like shocked cuz in my country, it coasts like 6 to 8 burger menu for meee😭😭😭
Can you not import files/layers from Procreate or other apps in order to avoid having to redraw stuff?
Like pre-existing files
it's possible! tbh if you want to do frame by frame animation, it's best to make the keys in procreate, tranfer them to dreams and make in-betweens there
still no lasso ☹️
Of course, you gotta still use the dreamy sketchpad
Whys the brightness for the video to the max
I’m pretty sure they want you to draw most of it in procreate and import it and use the drawing in dreams only for details or edits
That’s dumb af and not worth the price tag at all.
you were on the lasso, as you were saying it didn't have it, I believe. In the video, you were circling the word "freehand" with your pencil, thats the lasso in procreate
Oh is it on pc?
I’ve been having trouble importing my audio (I’ve tried lots of tutorials and this app, and it won’t convert to mp3) which I need to make animatics
It sucks you can’t draw on masked videos either for the audio.
ive seen some amazing work that came from procreate dreams... ontheotherhand, people using it like flash animation does look cheezy
IT IS INTERFACE LMAO OMG, how can you be this silly and have some of the best art style I have ever seen??
It doesn’t have lasso and chroma key or when you wanna duplicate a movement key it doesn’t let you
For the lasso part try to i think beginners should layer ever part so that they can copy or save if needed to. It just my opinion (im also a beginner)
I use procreate dreams and I agree with the person that said it's feels like a beta version and those finger movements... I cried and just gave up on that. This app has promise but the hidden functions and the finger gestures puts me off sometimes.
I got it for 12$.. and I don’t know how to work it (I DIDENT GET THE DREAM ONE) can u do a tutorial
That's the standard version of Procreate, which is not intended for animation.
You are correctly using the word interface. Also known as user interface, essentially the buttons, menus, etc. of the app :)
Jesus Christ the hdr on this is blinding
Oh! Thank goodness, I thought something happened to my screen.
Is there a comparative iOS animation app for that price? I also appreciate the companies AI stance, which should be common, but unfortunately isn’t, so will continue to support them
I hear there is toonsquid. Its a lot more feature filled and I personally like it a lot more than anything I have ever used.
Toon Squid! Half the price with twice the features. Just read all the recent app store reviews, a lot of them are ppl who were unhappy with Dreams
@@kaylemonworks nice! Definitely checking that out
So like they said are you able to draw on 1 million by 1 million pixels on procreate.
I usually just put things in layers.. don’t use lassos much since back when I only had photoshop to work with
does it have a layer limit, like how procreate limits your layers?
Got any opinion changes since it’s been a little bit now?
wait for the sketching animation what brush is that
the lineart brush from Dreamy Sketch brush set!
ok thanks! @@viyaura
This was a rollercoaster ride of a review. Thankyou.
