I wish I was able to take an Art Major, but my parents refused to pay for my classes after I wanted to change major from Electrical Engineering, so I've been mostly been practicing using the tutorials on the internet or reference books in public libraries. Good luck on your journey to becoming a successful artist.
I'm not there yet, but I hope to do 2d animations someday. And as much as I want good money, I feel like indie projects would be something I actually enjoy. But idk, it's still pretty far away for me.
I think its worth it im 15 so im still figuring out what i want to do its always been my dream to be a RUclips animationer but idk how to animation this video is making me realize if i want to be an artist full time i need to practice more with animation, drawing and more so my junior year im definitely taking an art class or maybe this year idk if i want to take another cooking class or not it is fun so idk i have so many things i have thought about doing as a future job for example being an art teacher for elementary school, being a baker, being a RUclips animationer, being a graphic novel writer and illustrator for the drawings in the books, owning my own shop and selling stickers and stuff on etsy and its just so hard trying to choose a path to go down so college scares me a bit and im only 15 im not even at the stage of looking for colleges yet you do that when your a junior and still it just freaks me out im just glad to see its okay to make mistakes in life your video helped me see that if i dont like something i can always try something different even tho that might put me in debt for college lones and stuff i hope I'll be able to get through it what im saying is that this video took some of the pick what you want to do for you future for forever fear off my shoulders lol not all of it but at least a bit thank you i cant wait to see more from your channel :D
be very carefull the path of a youtuber may lead you to be a "content creator" so if you feel rushed DO NOT OVERWORK content creation is the path to insanity and burnout so just say with me do ART not CONTENT believe me i cant stress this enough art and content arent the same and that difference is what rules if an artist lives or dies so huuhhhh good luck and do art :3
I kinda cried at the "I chose my major for me" part. I really want to pursue art. I'm not the best artist, my art isn't that good, I'm not good at other drawing techniques, and idk how to make money out of it. I feel like i'm gonna be a disappointment and other people would judge. I usually didn't care about what people thought but being an adult who majored in art, being judged by other adults, is scary for me. But I always remind myself of the love and support I get from my parents that not a lot of other parents would give. They told me that whatever I pursue, they'd help me through the entire thing. Or at least until I get myself stable. They encourage me to travel to another country to get better education and learn more about my passions. They tell me that I should get a job or career that I love. And they're right! I love learning about art. I love improving my art, drawing constantly and looking back at my old art to see how much I progressed! I love drawing anything and everything I can! Lately I haven't had the time to draw, which made me sad. I'm actually applying for a school soon that has an art and design strand to pursue my passion! Sure I don't draw daily like other people. Sure my art isn't seen by many. Sure, my art is garbage fire! But that's why i'm applying to this school and this strand, to make my art better and improve my skills! I don't really care about money or status. Sure it'd be nice to be rich and famous, or at least stable and respected. There are lots of ways I can earn money by doing what I love. If ever, i'll just do another job that I can still enjoy my passion at. I don't care who says that art isn't a good career path or a good future, if the world didn't have art we'd be bland as heck! Art is as important as any other job or course. If it wasn't, it wouldn't be an option! So idc what ANYONE and EVERYONE says! Art is my passion, I'm going to pursue it because it's what makes ME happy, it's what makes me feel successful. ❤ Update: I got into the art school I mentioned and will be starting classes in a few weeks! All my hard work has paid of, I cannot wait to keep on pursuing my passion and improve it more and more everyday.
Seeing so much experiences and stories are really inspiring. I haven’t cried on your text ofc but it did connected with me deep inside! I am gonna graduate my high school next year and want to apply for a graphic designer or illustrator! I do get support from my parents which I greatly appreciate but ironically I am my own worst enemy and get a lot of worrying thoughts about my skills and if I am good enough. But I am confident that art is something that I want to strike for my entire life! No matter the major, I will eventually find my passion and become better me! I hope I haven’t caught up too much on this lol but I really wanted to speak up about it, we all can do this no matter what
I am the same way. I grew up with the mindset to always please others, and if someone didn’t like me, I was devastated. I would do anything to earn their respect. Then I was confronted by my brother, and he said he almost didn’t know me anymore. Of course, he was referring to the real “me.” I just fell apart after that, because he was totally right, and he had hit the nail on its head. I’m all better now, but my habit still comes back to me every blue moon. But you know what? Growing and going through life is an art in itself. I am also rambling a bit; pardon me. My point is this: don’t let others define you. It’s okay to be a little selfish! As long as you keep it within boundaries of course… be strong and keep practicing if that’s what you’re going to do! I know I am 😁. Thanks for sharing! 👍
Thank you for sharing this! It made me feel genuinely seen and put me at ease. In the end, pursuing what YOU love is gonna be what motivates you to move forward in life. I wish nothing but the best for us all
As someone who is an art minor with a major in psychology I hate how some majors are considered “useless” it’s all about what makes you feel fulfilled! Love your art style so much :) EDIT: thank you for all the love wow!! Appreciate it a lot and wishing you all the best year ever!
There’s two sides to it: 1, do what you love, _and_ get paid? Sounds great! 2, get paid well for something you don’t hate doing, so you can pay for your passion in the meantime! It depends on the person which one is the right choice. And it can take years or decades to get it right. :’)
I mean in my opinion, for most times a degree is considered useless when you do not know how to use it or to meeting both ends (except gender studies, you know it)
Well you go to college in order to increase you earning potential in the professional market….. you can have a gazillion “hobbies” and feel fulfilled ….. wasting money is retarded…. “As a psychology major” you should know this…. Then again…. Cartoon Avatar logic….
Props to you for powering through all your tribulations. The pressure must have been intense, so please take breaks so as not to burn yourself out. We'll always be here 😊
literally the difference between you talking about ur 3d classes vs your art ones are really telling what one was your preference lmao, IMMEDIATE SUBSCRIBE CANT WAIT TO SEE MORE FROM U
i don't have any schooling besides a year or two on art. Can you look at my animations and tell me how bad they are LOL. If you have something good to say its ok too. I wish i did better but i made them when i was very young. @@shortcxke
I feel like the only person in my class who doesn't have beef with maya the only thing I dislike is the amount of times it crashes but that happens with all programs and it's not even the worst for some reason toon boom keeps crashing most times I use it
As someone who regularly attends life drawing classes, I found people take it very professionally. Everybody is there to practice their craft, while the questionable element fades into the background.
It’s interesting that the 3D animation course made you model and texture so much, at my school 3D animation focuses completely on animating while there’s another concentration for texturing/modeling and rigging (technical animation)
In my school they teach us in a more generalistic way. they teach us rigging, vfx, compositing, modelling, texturing and animating with the same hours but you choose a speciality in your 3rd year. But you still study as a generalist. While we have so much work it's nice to actually learn everything in details.
In my school you choose what branch of animation you want to go into on freshman year. Then the next 4 years is focused hard core on those branches. Effects, Character, Motion Design.
@@HopesFire That seems stupid, as a freshman with little experience how would you know which branch without the experience. I didn't find out what my art specialty was until I was 2 years into my program, in something I never knew about until doing it in school and finding I had a nak for it.
@@ericaallisonc Most freshman classes overlap and there’s so many generals, that besides 1 or 2 classes it doesn’t matter much. What branch did you go into?
As someone who went to SCAD and didn’t finish my program, I’m really happy that you shared your story about this! I relate so much. It’s scary to tell people you majored in anything like illustration or studio art. But you’re right that your degree doesn’t define you. It’s what you do next. I can’t wait to see what you create!
Sorry i know this comment was made 4 months ago- but im curious about why you didnt finish your program? whether you respond to this or not I hope youre doing well now!! :)
I think it's very cool that you changed your major. Doing a major you don't like shouldn't be the thing people atmire you for, it should be the fact that you were so strong and brave to go your own way despite what people might think. I struggeled with that in the past too, but I'm happy where I am now^^ also your hair looks amazing
Plus, if you hate your major now, it's probably not indicative of how much you'll enjoy doing it _as a career._ Which is what the major is, theoretically, supposed to prepare you for.
@@Bluecho4 true. Especially since your career can last a life long. I think a good example is someone from my school. I'm becomming a kindergardener and there was a guy at my school who went to math-college because his parents wanted him to do so. After that, he did a math-job for sime time, hated it and luckily found the courage to do what he wanted and become a kindergardener. He was finally happy but wasted years of his life for a job he didn't even enjoy. This can break people
As a freshman in college currently majoring in studio art, I understand the feeling as if your letting others down by just your major choice. It sucks but at the end of the day, you're the one putting in the effort and should be able to do what you feel would be the best choice. Great video and happy (late) graduation!
i’m a senior in high school and i really want to major in studio art or animation in college, but lately I’ve been feeling really unconfident in my art skills and thought about quitting my dream This video was really inspiring to me, that maybe I can make it. Thank you :)
I’m majoring in animation currently. To be honest you don’t need amazing art skills. At least in my school 3D animation in more emphasized. You do need to be fairly good at drawing for the drawing classes but most teachers take into account where you originally were and grade based on that.
I’m currently an accounting major who’s whole life has been devoured in art, I can’t say I’ve made the wrong choice but I do always wonder what it would’ve been like to go to an art school and did video game design and animation which is what I originally wanted to do. Long story short art will always be with you, I’m currently buying an iPad to start animating and don’t plan on being an accountant for my entire life. I really just wanted to understand business to start my own art company selling clothing or something.
I'm literally in the same exact position! glad to know there are others like me, and this vid helped me be a little more confident too :) I think we will persevere
I felt the exact same regarding 3D animation. I had to take intro to CGI and it was awful because almost none of my artistic skills were useful anymore. It was way more mathematical than I expected and after many panic attacks and skipped classes I just barely passed. 2D is harder to get a high paying job in, but if it’s what you enjoy there is no substitute 💙
Ive always wanted to be an animator and i think what really sucks is im at a certian age where im trying to find the time and motivation to do art and yet people younger then me are so much better then me and somehow animating even better then me and it really tackled my confidence of animating down despite how much i dreamed of being one when i was younger and i still do.
If it makes you feel better, I think VERY often about an animation industry I once went to. The speaker was talking from the perspective of being someone who looks at portfolios and offers job interviews. He said that sometimes there are artists who apply and they seem like they're just no good, that they won't make it into the industry. So they get rejected. BUT sometimes that rejected person will then continue practicing and learning, and apply again (to a different project or company, since time has passed). And it's almost impossible to tell it's from the same person from how much they improved, and they get a job. There are also people who start working in the industry in their 30s or 40s. Like, they had a different job and then started learning art, animation, programming, or whatever it was they were interested in.They apply, and get a job. It's possible! Just keep at it!!
I think you should flip your view, if people so young can do it why can't you? Everybody progresses at a different pace, but people who are further along than you may be closer than you think. Just keep pushing through, you will go far with routine.
@@SebaCape55 I'd also like to add-- I feel crazy looking at the artwork i made when i was 14. I know I'm *technically* capable of the same or better quality work now... but back then I didn't have to worry about college and traffic conditions 😅 Kids have more uninterrupted time to hone their craft. The effort a 13 year old puts into banging out a flipaclip amv in 5 hours on a Friday night would be equivalent to like... two or so weeks of an 18-20 year old working on a hobbyist project between class or work. It's hard to not have huge blocks of time to get better at something, but I promise you're still improving even in those little moments of work.
As someone who's going through my final year in Graphic Design I can relate a lot with the struggle and feelings of wanting to give up. Even if you changed your major I'm glad you were able to make it through. I'll be rooting ya on for your goal to be a Story Time Animator look forward to see what you end up posting ^^
@@dark_nightwing_xl2797 it’s challenging but rewarding. The major pushes you to explore a lot of aspects you wouldn’t immediately tie with graphic design like the last project I did this semester was constructing a Music Box set around an artist I liked (I did Jack Stauber) which involved us building and printing a whole Boxset design. Though you also do stuff like Logo design, Typography, posters, etc. Like a lot of majors it can be a roller coaster at times
4:39 It feels kinda surreal seeing my artwork on a video like this. Thanks so much for featuring it! My time in art school definitely could’ve gone better, but what I got the best out of it was the friends I made there. You could say we suffered together and that’s what made us closer 😅 but if y’all actually wanna learn 3D animation without paying tuition prices, check out Sir Wade Neistadt. He’s super chill and I learned a lot from him
Very relatable. I studied and failed to become an architect, and a physiotherapist, before I decided to study graphic design instead. The decision to follow your heart rather than your wallet is a tough one. Best of Luck on your artistic journey!
Taking 3D animation Level 3 rn in my school and i relate to this video way too much. I wasn’t doing it for myself but rather for something that wouldn’t matter in the end. I’m so glad somebody felt the sameway i currently am! Luckily, the next trimester i take im gonna be doing Choir as my elective (again cause im also taking it right now!) We do concerts for the school and it is so much fun, my teacher is very supportive and awesome and it feels like the one thing i want to do! This video comforted me so much, unbelievably as it may sound hehe
It was really interesting seeing your journey throughout the art majors! I definitely wanna become a cartoon character designer, and after I leave from the military, I can improve my art 10 fold-
Man I feel you on the whole switching majors. I was a 2D animation major but had to switch to studio art due to unforseen life stuff. Keep doing what you love, you're pretty good at it. 👍
Life tip: if you’re anticipating an unpleasant response regarding your major, lie. Make shit up or keep it generic. Using the studio art major, instead of that, just say illustration if you want to be an illustrator, etc. Life tip 2: for any major, always talk with someone at the school and go over the degree requirements. And read the course catalogue to make sure it’s what you want. Life tip 3: animation majors are a crap shoot. Most productions these days are 3d pipelines and most 2d animation is done overseas. Draftsmanship is rarely a focused for an animation. Also, most art majors have the same first year, which is very basic “art 101” things. So, you really don’t know if you’re satisfied with your art major until after your second year.
I’ve always imagined 3-D to be easy because I’m a 2-D artist but I also do a little bit of animation, especially Stop Motion so I compare it to Stop Motion but I’ve seen a little bit of it. It’s a little bit different from what I see before it looks a little bit more complicated but I won’t give up as long as I get a computer. I’m a fiddle with it and try my hardest to figure out how to do 3-D animation because it’s been my lifelong dream. I love 2-D it’s my childhood, but I wanna move onto 3-D in my adulthood.
Yeah 3D has a pretty big learning curve because it is quite technical and there is a lot to learn wich is why I recomend practicing it a bit before also it can be fun I am currently trying to practice my modeling because I mostly animate premade models. Also there are some good tutorials online for 3D modeling and also if u find a speed modeling u can slow it down to see their process.
if you want to learn any 3d skill, its important to understand that its basically opposite in technique when compared to more physical art forms. in painting, drawing, sculpting, and 2d animation, its easy to add more details, but a change of perspective means reworking a lot or all of the work. in 3d, its the opposite. a change of perspective is trivial, and complex perspective isn't even worried about, but details of any kind are tedious to add and often must be entirely changed because of a single problem. 2d skills are still extremely valuable to a 3d artist but the are almost reversed. hope this wasn't too verbose.
Right now I am on my own journey for becoming a professional animator, I hope to one day work for a indie studio, you are very right though, majors don’t define us, it’s the work we put in that defines us! Dont give up! I absolutely love your style 😁
This is so underrated. As an suck up for an animator I find it cool how you animate it seems almost easy (btw I'm not saying that the way you animate is easy and fast but the way it's just a sort of png I love it❤) I hope ur vid blows up👍
i'm glad you pointed out the png style! i use it to save time and since lotsa people like it, i might keep it as the editing style for my future storytime vids :] thank u
I loved this video so much! I was going through a big animation block and I've been telling myself that I can't do it. I graduated high school a few months ago and I've felt useless for not doing nothing. Seeing this video brought back my confidence that I can do it! Thank you gorl! 💜
Super cool to hear what you've been up to and congrats on your Bachelors! I'm in college for a Music Theory major and we're on break for Christmas, so some friends are helping me get back into drawing. Excited to see you create and animate more. You and many others make me want to work hard and draw better, too
I understand the feeling! I graduated from art school in May for an illustration bachelor's, and I remember feeling so behind of everyone else in first year painting. I'm really glad to hear you stuck with it! I know I did to prove to others that it was possible to do. I couldn't be happier ❤
I am currently a senior in high-school halfway through my last year, and I am not sure if I should completely go to a school that’s 5 hours away from where I live, or go to a community college and then transfer. However this video has inspired me to decide on what it it that I really want! And I can see through all of your hard work, to me I think getting a major that you are passionate about is very important, and i am glad you had the chance to change your major after you realized certain things were not going planned!good luck on all your future journeys shortcake!!🎉
I'm raving ab ur animal crossing-esque audio at 3:20 also the "good" is SOO good lmao!!! I'm going crazy for how you dressed your voice in this video. Hearing you feels like drinking water.
this is such a comfort to listen and see. as smn who pursues on being a full time artist this gave me a sense that i'll go through trials and errors of starting my university journey
im glad you were wise enough to stop when u noticed u didnt like it. staying with something u dont enjoy just because you were afraid. love your cute oc
oh hey you're back! Loved your videos in 2021. You're gonna make it big on RUclips. Keep up the good work! Don't worry about being a Neet, we all go through it at some point. The important part is the hard work and sheer perseverance you're gonna put on later. Congrats on your diploma!
You got this! Discipline and consistency is everything Besides it’s never a good idea to rely solely on a studio job income, better to have multiple income sources so having youtube (or any other source, merch etc.) as a side revenue stream is always a good idea, cause you never know when the project you’re working on gets cancelled or the studio goes under
Hey shortcxke love the new avatar and I hope you are doing well congrats on becoming a major in what you love to do and ty for putting your time on making a vid like this for us
I'm studying graphic design so it's definitely interesting to hear the perspective of someone from the same course even if it's a different major. Good luck on your art journey!
related to your story so much. Studied art and enjoyed it, then was super overwhelmed with 3D Modelling and animation. During the semester i started 3D software (last july-december) I was heavily considering dropping out, but then i broke my leg in September and had to drop out anyway. I still draw a bit from time to time but i don't think ill continue my studies, its Jan now and my leg is much better but just gonna work for a while to try and repay my uni debt. Thank you for your video and for your story.
I FEEL UUUUU, MOTIVATION KICKS MY ASS ESP WITH SCHOOL!!! Also 1:14 hits cup cutely AND I WAS JUMPSCARED SEEING MY ARTTT AAAA!! I LITERALLY EXCLAIMES OUTLOUD ALSO UR LIL 3D MODEL IS SO CUTKELEKSHAJWJEKME❤
As a senior in highschool, this was genuinely THE BEST video and explanation and walk through of someone's experience with art college that I've ever seen. I've always seeked out guidance from RUclipsrs and stuff, but your video is srsly exactly what I needed to hear. Thank you so much Shortcxke!!
I am in the "draw whatever I want but Is scared of art school" phase. I'm almost at the age of attending a college and boy I am confused on what to do. This video helped me out a lot! This is super inspiring. I wish your dream of becoming a art youtuber come true one day!
I totally get it. I switched from engineering to psychology and believe me people give me the stink eye all the time. I’m learning to get over it and realize following my passions is imporrant
Always reassuring to hear that other people have similar experiences to mine. I hope all works out for those who are still struggling to find themselves in their art out there :)
Ugh I felt this! I'm currently an art major at a public university (primary focus is Drawing...we unfortunately don't have animation), and will be getting my BFA this December. And it's not just the super expensive art supplies or the messy oil paints...anyone that's studied/majored in art knows the pain that is art portfolio bags lol But despite all the mental ups and downs, plus all the worries and doubts of "Did I make the right choice?", I'm excited to see what's in store. And I wish you nothing but the best in your art career, shortcxke! (This is actually the first video I've seen from you) Jesus loves you! Have a blessed day!
I didn't go to an all art school; just the average liberal arts school who's strongly known for agricultural, business, & science major (who knew lol). So I was there for business major bc i was practically forced by my parents to have a "serious" major. An art teacher was nice enough to see my transcript from my community college, & noticed the hige amount of art classes i took, so he told me i can double major in art & business. Continued art thanks to him & that's where i figured my strong point being in mixed media figurative art. Now the one thing i wished this school, or even most schools including art, they had an art business class. Business classes i took solely taught me what goes on in the business world, & art classes taught me how to produce artworks for galleries/portfolios. There wasn't a middle ground merging the two worlds together, so i was struggling how to sell my artwork w/o having to get into galleries, which were a challenge to begin w/. Thankfully i finally found a mentor who teaches how to sell art w/o needing a social media. I just hate how it took until this year to find her. Wasted so much time & money w/ other mentors whose focus was more on them lining up their pockets & not a lot about art 😮💨
hi i just wanna say that im a highschool senior and seeing this almost made me cry because im so scared of picking the wrong choice and seeing you pick the wrong one yet continuing to make so cool things and be so great somehow makes me calm down a bit. thanks
I ended up failing art school after spending thousands of dollars worth of Euros attending the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts. Literally my only other option now is to move to Germany and pursue a political career, hopefully become a world leader. Wish me luck.
You're a winner in my book, you got the best of both worlds. Animating in 3D and 2D! I did comics when I was younger but didn't have time for it, and now I'm working on 3D animations, not completely at the level that I want but it's something, I'm sure you'll make it big out there. I would ask for some art but I don't have much or make much when it comes to bills and stuff I have to pay but I do try to keep at it regardless, though I know for a fact [and you even said it in the video] that 2D art is a strain on your hands so that makes things hard to keep a study flow of art coming out but I'm sure with single frames shorts you'll still do well.
This is extremely relieving, and motivational. Relieving because I’m a 16 year old who wants to also be a RUclips Animator, and watching this gives me the courage to continue trying. Best of luck for the both of us! (I really don’t wanna go to art school)
I agree with you. I recently dropped out of art school in the mid-waypoint towards my graduation because it was becoming too expensive and stressful for me. Currently, I work as a delivery driver. On the other hand, the idea of working as a full-time animator is overwhelming for me. However, it is a rare job to get nowadays and requires a high degree of luck and certification.
This is super insightful! Im thinking of going into the same feild, 2d animation and character design that is, and this was very interesting to hear. Im super proud of you for powering through I hope you can continue doing what you love in the future!!! Best of luck!! 🤟💕
This video made me question my perception of college. I intended to just fail high school and immediately move onto college, but this video made me have a talk with my sister and actually plan for college and what I wanna do, so far the plan is to apply for financial aid then take remedial classes, I wouldn't have actually decided to get a grasp on my life it weren't for this video, Thank you
As someone who is rapidly approaching college, this video really helped me feel less bad about what I wanted to do in college. I’ve been scared of what people might think, and how my life will turn out. And I’ve been scared that I might not make the cut. This video really helped, you keep being you shortcxke!! ❤
stuff like this motivates me to really lock in to making art and trying to get better (I usually only draw when im bored or acutally have a solid idea of what im gonna draw), i love drawing tho
OMG this art style and your narration made everything so cute and pleasant to watch, i'm pretty excited to see more of your content, and i'm also proud of you for getting your major, congratulations!
I took Digital Arts major in my public college and loved it at first in my freshman year. But I also took a business class because I was under credits that took a toll on my mental health that made me question myself on choosing the path to going college in the first place. During this time I felt like I was at the point I didn't enjoy college anymore, so I dropped out turning to a self-taught video editor and content creator that works with others online that made me feel like I was were I belong. My family at first had mixed opinions on my decision on leaving at a two year free education, but focusing on something you have passion about turning it into a career can help us with dealing struggles.
I'M LITERALLY HERE IN MY LIFE. Just like you, I couldn't decide between studio art and 3D art, and I ended up choosing 2D art. I just finished my 4th semester at COC for an art major. I'm gonna take a fifth so that I fill up the rest of the requirements. You're absolutely right about the 3D modeling. It's very difficult for me to wrap my head around. The numerous different softwares don't help either. As I've been watching this video, I can't help but relate to all the experiences and different projects that you've shown in here, like the wire sculptures, or the art studies. You're not the only one hearing the decreased social tone though. When I tell my friends I'm in a 3D modeling class they seem to perk up a bit more than when I tell them I'm in an art class. But I think the root of their interest is out of curiosity, since 2D art is something they are more familiar with. Without the knowledge of how 3D design works, I probably would've had the same reaction of awe and curiosity. It's not a big deal though, especially if it's just casual "what's your major" talk. The actual artwork speaks for itself, and will definitely impress someone.
This hits so close to home. I had the exact same thoughts when I used to be an Art Major. I use to dream of becoming an animator, but after taking a few classes, I realized it wasn’t for me. I ended up just minoring in Art and decided to become a Child and Adolescent Studies Major instead. I absolutely don’t think being an art major is a waste of time since you can improve your art skills and could possibly make a career out of this one day. As long as you enjoy what you create and enjoy the process, that’s what matters in the end.
Definitely understand your struggles. Rigging definitely isn't the hardest but it definitely is the most tedious class for 3d art. I personally like it because there is a right way and a wrong way to do it. there arent any art theories you have to think about when doing it. but otherwise. Congratulations!. I hope you find more success on your career! considering your youtube channell doing pretty well. you're already pretty ahead.
Its funny how most, if not all skills can be learned throught the internet (youtubers, 3rd party sites, ect), and its only up to your determination and to not get distracted.
omg this video literally sounds like me from 4 years into the future. I'm about to start a foundation course for digital art and then go on to do a bachelors. hearing your experiences gives me a lot of confidence about my choices. tysm for uploading this and I hope to see more content from you! :D (also ur art style is very cute)
Thank you for giving out tips, Shortcxke! I'm planning to go to an art college because it has been my dream to be an artist ever since I was in middle school. But, as a newbie who is going to college sooner or later, it felt relief as there are people like you handing out tips or advice from experience so that I won't have to make a mistake for choosing a class that I don't feel comfortable doing so. And I think you changing your major is a good thing. Not everyone have to force themselves to something that they're not happy with just for the sake of others. You are you and don't let anyone's desires affect yourself, otherwise you'll be in a state that is unhealthy or unhappy to you. Remember to take care of yourself, drink some water (or any drink/juice), and do what you love, ok? Ok :> (Btw at the beginning when you asked what you look like, you look like Vee from Owl House when she shape-shift as her human-self in the 2nd Season.)
.. omg. i feel like i needed to see this video. i relate sooo much to how you've felt to the anxieties and stresses you had. as a "neetly" 23 yr old rn going through some life stuff im trying to fix, you've given me motivation
i know this video is 5 months old but ive been drawing just about my whole life, i wanted to do art for a job as a kid until i heard about the horrors of art schools, so a few years ago i switched to wanting to major in psychology even tho im still in highschool. this encourages me to go back to art as a serious job tho, thank you for popping up in my feed :3
As a person about to go to college and is applying to a few, this video helped me determine that I need to refine what my goals are a bit more before I decide which major to go into. Thanks!
8:01 THIS IS SO TRUUEEE! Everyone else in my school wants to be nurses, doctors, pilots, and things that are way more technical and then when my family asks me I get so embarrassed but art is something I really like doing :(
I’m praying for you Shortcxke and your loved ones! I’m praying for everyone else including your loved ones!! 💗🌸🪷💗 Also! Your art and your voice is so cute!!💗🌸🌷‼️💗
I've noticed that progressively through the video your character changes from this very smooth and accurate lip sync animation that devolve to just sprites. It gives the impression of a passion project where halfway through you just wanted to get it done lol. Anyways, you've earned a new sub 😳✨
As an art major, who also switched her major, I understand you. It's hard to do, but if you are not happy, do not waste your money, time, and overall mental/emotional health on something you are not happy with. College is finding yourself, and you are allowed to redirect your path if you need to 😊 I'm very happy you figured it out early on and proud 😊💞 Keep doing what you love!
You’re not a disappointment, I also perused architecture for the green, but I loved sleeping and not hurting myself making scaled models of projects more.
It feels nice and sad to see another person who went through similar things. Unlike you, I halted my progress after I finished with my university program, I am currently trying to be a programmer (I needed money after graduating and without a job I can't eat) and I constantly question myself if I should have pursued art more. Maybe one day I will get back and start creating art again, I wish you all the luck and hope that this works out for you. Seeing people like you succeed makes me happy and hopeful for my own artistic future.
Good for you! Changing majors is terrifying but in the long run you will enjoy life more than being stuck in something you dislike🌸 You have such a sweet personality and cant wait to see more of your journey!🤟🌸
just based on the drawing you did, and being in cali, i think we went to the same community college, but you sound like you did it right.. It took me 6 years just to do an associates of science for animation and i chose not to transfer because uni is so expensive. I didn't even know there were universities that could be under 11k in california. Good for you for finishing the degree. trust me, that "What was it all for" is exactly how i feel too, and thing is, if you work on your portfolio and go to conventions, you'll learn that the only thing that degree can do, is help you, in no way does it hurt. But our portfolios speak first. having that degree provides an extra toe on the foot you're putting in the door.
Despite hearing about all their difficulties, watching this video made me really want to go to art school one day. Being able to interact with so many artists and different ways of creating art seems like an incredible experience. However, I live in a reality where I have to choose a course that is more ‘secure’ for getting a job.
I dropped out of a computer science course and probably a financially stable life to pursue 3D art. I have no idea if I'm going to be able to build a carrier out of it, but my god I just love 3D modelling. Everyone wants to be successful in life and that involves being happy.
heyo everyone! :D thanks for over 150k subscribers!! so many...
what do you think of art majors? do you think it’s worth it or just a waste a time?
I wish I was able to take an Art Major, but my parents refused to pay for my classes after I wanted to change major from Electrical Engineering, so I've been mostly been practicing using the tutorials on the internet or reference books in public libraries.
Good luck on your journey to becoming a successful artist.
I'm not there yet, but I hope to do 2d animations someday. And as much as I want good money, I feel like indie projects would be something I actually enjoy. But idk, it's still pretty far away for me.
I think its worth it im 15 so im still figuring out what i want to do its always been my dream to be a RUclips animationer but idk how to animation this video is making me realize if i want to be an artist full time i need to practice more with animation, drawing and more so my junior year im definitely taking an art class or maybe this year idk if i want to take another cooking class or not it is fun so idk i have so many things i have thought about doing as a future job for example being an art teacher for elementary school, being a baker, being a RUclips animationer, being a graphic novel writer and illustrator for the drawings in the books, owning my own shop and selling stickers and stuff on etsy and its just so hard trying to choose a path to go down so college scares me a bit and im only 15 im not even at the stage of looking for colleges yet you do that when your a junior and still it just freaks me out im just glad to see its okay to make mistakes in life your video helped me see that if i dont like something i can always try something different even tho that might put me in debt for college lones and stuff i hope I'll be able to get through it what im saying is that this video took some of the pick what you want to do for you future for forever fear off my shoulders lol not all of it but at least a bit thank you i cant wait to see more from your channel :D
be very carefull the path of a youtuber may lead you to be a "content creator" so if you feel rushed
DO NOT OVERWORK
content creation is the path to insanity and burnout
so just say with me
do ART not CONTENT
believe me i cant stress this enough art and content arent the same and that difference is what rules if an artist lives or dies
so huuhhhh good luck and do art :3
Pat pat. Amqzing job on video. And qn art major was worth it. Its something u can be proud of. Good job. Noooo way steven universe backpack
Update: I got into the art school I mentioned and will be starting classes in a few weeks! All my hard work has paid of, I cannot wait to keep on pursuing my passion and improve it more and more everyday.
Oh Jesus I rambled on quite a lot HAAHAH- whoopsies! Sorry I got caught in the moment 😅
Love your art style so much :)
EDIT: thank you for all the love wow!! Appreciate it a lot and wishing you all the best year ever!
No cause why is this exactly what I want to do 😭 Either be a psychologist or therapist but I can’t let go of art lol
There’s two sides to it:
1, do what you love, _and_ get paid? Sounds great!
2, get paid well for something you don’t hate doing, so you can pay for your passion in the meantime!
It depends on the person which one is the right choice. And it can take years or decades to get it right. :’)
I mean in my opinion, for most times a degree is considered useless when you do not know how to use it or to meeting both ends (except gender studies, you know it)
@@j-motions9894you could be an art therapist
Well you go to college in order to increase you earning potential in the professional market….. you can have a gazillion “hobbies” and feel fulfilled ….. wasting money is retarded…. “As a psychology major” you should know this…. Then again…. Cartoon Avatar logic….
Props to you for powering through all your tribulations. The pressure must have been intense, so please take breaks so as not to burn yourself out. We'll always be here 😊

@@ultrabikeboy I'm so glad I'm not the only one who thought about T&T
Bruh I found this video when it had a few thousand or hundred views.
literally the difference between you talking about ur 3d classes vs your art ones are really telling what one was your preference lmao, IMMEDIATE SUBSCRIBE CANT WAIT TO SEE MORE FROM U
Yo wassup Kelseyy
omg itsss kelseyyyy! yea, i should've realized that from the start ahaa thank you
No cuz I droppped out do to 3d animation haha
I HATE 3D
SHGURR!! WHOAA! 3D is pain fr, im so glad i switched outta there
omg its shgurr senpai, also i should have done 3d. i have useless 2d animation degree now :')
That's why when you want to learn 3d animation (like SFM or Maya), don't bother making your own models, steal them from talented users, lol.
i don't have any schooling besides a year or two on art.
A lot of people change their major or don’t do what they had majored in. But, it’s also the knowledge you get for it.
This can break people
@@Bluecho4Oh yeah!
They LOVE to advertise that they can help you get a job,but the disclaimer says otherwise!🫤
Also college, especially for artists, is very stressful. Doing something you really don't like on top of that will d e s t r o y your mental health
As a freshman in college currently majoring in studio art, I understand the feeling as if your letting others down by just your major choice. It sucks but at the end of the day, you're the one putting in the effort and should be able to do what you feel would be the best choice. Great video and happy (late) graduation!
i’m a senior in high school and i really want to major in studio art or animation in college, but lately I’ve been feeling really unconfident in my art skills and thought about quitting my dream
This video was really inspiring to me, that maybe I can make it.
I'm literally in the same exact position! glad to know there are others like me, and this vid helped me be a little more confident too :) I think we will persevere
same 😭 this plus senioritis has been the worst
Omg you and me both I’m a senior and wanting to do illustration but seeing what people say about art majors is discouraging me… also omg pjsk pfp
As a current art major i never felt more happy, comforted, and confident in my education. thank you for this
It's very important education, how else I will order Big Mac?
as someone who isn't really good at art, this is super inspiring for me, and motivates me to keep doing better.
Art is a constant practice thing…. The longer you do it…. And study actually talented people…. You’ll improve…..
sometimes we are our worst critics, im sure your art isn't as bad as you think!
I know I'm *technically* capable of the same or better quality work now... but back then I didn't have to worry about college and traffic conditions 😅
Kids have more uninterrupted time to hone their craft. The effort a 13 year old puts into banging out a flipaclip amv in 5 hours on a Friday night would be equivalent to like... two or so weeks of an 18-20 year old working on a hobbyist project between class or work. It's hard to not have huge blocks of time to get better at something, but I promise you're still improving even in those little moments of work.
dude same, everyone around me is so much better at animating than me
Ahh!- no wonder the background music sounded so familiar lol. But Congrats on graduating love your vids!
had the same realization XD Big Betrayal jumpscare!
Is grafic design difficult?
He’s super chill and I learned a lot from him
Replying so I can come back
whoaa i watched lotsa Sir Wade Neistadt back when i was gearing towards 3D animation! his videos are truly great
Watching this is very satisfying, nothings choppy and it’s very smooth! Nice job on this
NAH! you don't look like a strawberry you are a peach.
Use blender but in my experience I find 3d easier than 2d
if you want to learn any 3d skill, its important to understand that its basically opposite in technique when compared to more physical art forms. in painting, drawing, sculpting, and 2d animation, its easy to add more details, but a change of perspective means reworking a lot or all of the work. in 3d, its the opposite. a change of perspective is trivial, and complex perspective isn't even worried about, but details of any kind are tedious to add and often must be entirely changed because of a single problem. 2d skills are still extremely valuable to a 3d artist but the are almost reversed. hope this wasn't too verbose.
You already are an artist, be proud of yourself and keep working hard.
YOU GOT THIS !
Right now I am on my own journey for becoming a professional animator, I hope to one day work for a indie studio, you are very right though, majors don’t define us, it’s the work we put in that defines us! Dont give up! I absolutely love your style 😁
THIS IS SUCH AN INFORMATIVE VID TY! also splatoon music at the end so true
I relate except i failed art class with an F. That's not going to stop me for drawing anyways
How lovely! I wish you the best of luck! Commenting for the algorithm ❤️
Your animation has gotten amazing, keep it up
this is such a comfort to listen and see. as smn who pursues on being a full time artist this gave me a sense that i'll go through trials and errors of starting my university journey

oh hey you're back! Loved your videos in 2021. You're gonna make it big on RUclips. Keep up the good work! Don't worry about being a Neet, we all go through it at some point. The important part is the hard work and sheer perseverance you're gonna put on later. Congrats on your diploma!
You got this! Discipline and consistency is everything
Besides it’s never a good idea to rely solely on a studio job income, better to have multiple income sources so having youtube (or any other source, merch etc.) as a side revenue stream is always a good idea, cause you never know when the project you’re working on gets cancelled or the studio goes under
Hey shortcxke love the new avatar and I hope you are doing well congrats on becoming a major in what you love to do and ty for putting your time on making a vid like this for us
I'm studying graphic design so it's definitely interesting to hear the perspective of someone from the same course even if it's a different major. Good luck on your art journey!
At 0:11 when you said, what do you think I look like I was about to say Mitsuri from Demon slayer
related to your story so much.

YEAH I SAW IT TOO
Ugh I felt this! I'm currently an art major at a public university (primary focus is Drawing...we unfortunately don't have animation), and will be getting my BFA this December. And it's not just the super expensive art supplies or the messy oil paints...anyone that's studied/majored in art knows the pain that is art portfolio bags lol
But despite all the mental ups and downs, plus all the worries and doubts of "Did I make the right choice?", I'm excited to see what's in store. And I wish you nothing but the best in your art career, shortcxke! (This is actually the first video I've seen from you)
Jesus loves you! Have a blessed day!
why did she sound sad when she said "i didn't get to see any naked people" help i'm scared😭😭💀💀
You didn't see ANY naked people?! It automatically wasn't worth it.
Edit: Nvm... You lucky bastard
LMAO
hi i just wanna say that im a highschool senior and seeing this almost made me cry because im so scared of picking the wrong choice and seeing you pick the wrong one yet continuing to make so cool things and be so great somehow makes me calm down a bit.

I would ask for some art but I don't have much or make much when it comes to bills and stuff I have to pay but I do try to keep at it regardless, though I know for a fact [and you even said it in the video] that 2D art is a strain on your hands so that makes things hard to keep a study flow of art coming out but I'm sure with single frames shorts you'll still do well.
the next i survived book should be "I Survived Glass Casting Class"
Burger backpack goes crazy
This video made me question my perception of college. I intended to just fail high school and immediately move onto college, but this video made me have a talk with my sister and actually plan for college and what I wanna do, so far the plan is to apply for financial aid then take remedial classes, I wouldn't have actually decided to get a grasp on my life it weren't for this video, Thank you
THE QUALITY OF THIS VIDEO IS FUKIN MINDBLOWING, INCREDIBLE JOB WAAAAA
Everything about this video radiates "hehe smol" energy. Love your art style and I wish you luck.
As long as you enjoy what you create and enjoy the process, that’s what matters in the end.
i love how you said that your major doesnt define you, but what youll do after is what and I think that's really beautiful
Ok :>
(Btw at the beginning when you asked what you look like, you look like Vee from Owl House when she shape-shift as her human-self in the 2nd Season.)
i'm glad, and thank u! omg i love vee!!
.. omg. i feel like i needed to see this video. i relate sooo much to how you've felt to the anxieties and stresses you had. as a "neetly" 23 yr old rn going through some life stuff im trying to fix, you've given me motivation
i know this video is 5 months old but ive been drawing just about my whole life, i wanted to do art for a job as a kid until i heard about the horrors of art schools, so a few years ago i switched to wanting to major in psychology even tho im still in highschool. this encourages me to go back to art as a serious job tho, thank you for popping up in my feed :3
Also!
LOL how'd u know???? i purposely added more animation to the introduction of the video so that i can keep people's attention (it worked) :]
As an art major, who also switched her major, I understand you. It's hard to do, but if you are not happy, do not waste your money, time, and overall mental/emotional health on something you are not happy with. College is finding yourself, and you are allowed to redirect your path if you need to 😊
I'm very happy you figured it out early on and proud 😊💞 Keep doing what you love!
You’re not a disappointment, I also perused architecture for the green, but I loved sleeping and not hurting myself making scaled models of projects more.
I'm glad to have found this channel, good luck with whatever's next!
Never before have I realted to someone so much. I pray your youtube career and love for art only grows from here. Love you and the video.
College sounds too stressful for meeee but I’ll keep drawing
I dropped out of a computer science course and probably a financially stable life to pursue 3D art.
I have no idea if I'm going to be able to build a carrier out of it, but my god I just love 3D modelling.
Everyone wants to be successful in life and that involves being happy.
As someone who just started college in graphic design, your story inspired me. I hope you achieve whatever you set your mind to.
