Damn. Daidus' articulation of why artists, especially at younger ages, constantly shit on their work makes so much sense and applies to other things too, like music. I can remember countless times writing stuff but not being able to play it or have it come out how I wanted because my skill/expertise level wasnt honed/couldn't execute what i was hearing in my head, nor did i know the proper way to explain it.
i really adore this channel for several reasons but mostly because i think more young artists need to see that even the most seasoned, put-together, big-name artists that they might look up to online have periods where they hate everything they make or feel bad about their skill level, and that those feelings will pass if they just keep coming back to art. it's helpful to know this stuff when you're starting out so you don't get too discouraged; i wish more popular artists had been open about it when i was growing up.

It was my LIFE in middle school, my first ever commissions were done through Gaia where I’d draw people’s avi Chibis in my sketchbooks and take a photo with my digital camera and upload it on photo bucket and they’d pay me in Gaia currency or for items LMAOOO

For the pencil smudging situation, there’s a couple of options: 1) Use a pencil in the H range as they smudge less 2) Use coloured sketching pencils like Prismacolor Col-Rase, as they don’t smudge like graphite. There is a grey coloured one if you like the look of the grey sketch.

As a traditional artist I would like to let you know the reason the pencil keeps smudging is because you are whipping your hand over the paper to get rid of the eraser bits, I would used a brush to get the off of just blow on it, hope this helps! I forgot to also say the reason its important to try not to smudge is because the oils on your hands turn the charcoal into this painty good and its hard to erase.

never really had a hard time being the art kid in high school but middle school? i dont even wanna remember those days! like its funny to me how kids think that if someone is "weird" they need to bully them or make them feel like an outcast, in high school i was at the troubled kids class (so basically one class for those who are slow and need extra help to learn but that also took away my ability to join art class) and there not only was i never made fun of for being an artist, gamer and a weeb u name it! we were also very good friends and supported each other like siblings its the only three years of my school life that i actually enjoyed cause i genuinely had nice teachers and fellow students.

Emirichu phenomenon-fan animatic inspired, cute, and elegant. Your art has a classic softness or roundness that is distinct from all other chibi or anime-like art.
I think I can speak for many artists, especially for beginners such as myself, that this channel is so comforting. We all struggle early on, and stress ourselves out when we don't draw out what we pictured. Daidus insight is really good though, it's true that happens but we need to continue, because it's part of the artists journey. Sometimes you feel like you're burnt out, and you can look at your older works and learn to appericiate your progress, and continue bettering your style/fundamentals etc. This channel has really made me sit down and try to achieve more, and it's inspired me beyond the general on-looking to your individual channels all those years back.

I thought the matching thumbnails that you did for your inktober videos were really cool! I remember when I saw the one for week two it literally made me laugh out loud. Not only did it make me excited to watch the video, it make me excited for the upcoming inktober videos as well! It was super fun to see the continuation every week, so if you ever felt like doing something like that again... I mean...I wouldn't be mad...
Two months after the original post, finally got to watch. I notice in a few videos Daidus says "That's Emirichu/Emily" as the only description. I think basically it's two words for "That is your unique style that is yours and yours alone that I and everyone you share it with love." It's always difficult for a man in love to not go into crazy detail about what they mean in their wording, but rather in our minds the words are more impactful than they sound to others when spoken.
As someone who was on both Gaia Online and Maple Story (oh, Scania...), I am feeling the nostalgia. I still talk to people from both (and ones I've lost contact with, I still think about all the time).
Bruh my middle school sketchbook is full of mermaids, fairies, Fruits Basket characters, and edgy OCs too. The self deprecating writing in the corner is so real, I think it's like, at the time you know what you're doing is seen as cringe so you leave notes in the corners for anyone that might see it to let them know that you think it's trash too. Kind of like when when a middle schooler tells other kids what they like and they make fun of them for it and the kid being made fun of reluctantly agrees that their interest isn't cool to appease the group.

I forgot to also say the reason its important to try not to smudge is because the oils on your hands turn the charcoal into this painty good and its hard to erase.

The trashing on old art was real I accidentally activate a gag reflect and die of cringe when I see why old art from 5th and 6th garde 😭 and the notes I wrote on them too made me die of cringe even harder
Hahaha I feel so called out. I still do the arrows and notes on my doodles! The only difference is that nowadays, I write notes detailing exactly what is wrong and how to fix the issue. Growth? Lol 😂😅

16:42 -- Try using a pencil with a higher number for sketching. A higher number means harder graphite, which should mean less smudging.

This reminds me that I'm so glad I have like, my traditional work from when I was 11 to now, because through my whole teenage years, I conducted a burning of Alexandria on the entirety of my digital work, so my traditional work from over 10 years makes up for the lack of anything digital 😭😭

I'm so glad that this channel exists. These two have an awesome dynamic, and the combination of their art skills and funny personalities make every video a must (re)watch.
I wanted them to do couple art, where one draws one person and the other draws in the couple to see the difference of the styles. It can be a valentines thing. I just thought it would be cute and cool.
never really had a hard time being the art kid in high school but middle school? i dont even wanna remember those days! like its funny to me how kids think that if someone is "weird" they need to bully them or make them feel like an outcast, in high school i was at the troubled kids class (so basically one class for those who are slow and need extra help to learn but that also took away my ability to join art class) and there not only was i never made fun of for being an artist, gamer and a weeb u name it! we were also very good friends and supported each other like siblings its the only three years of my school life that i actually enjoyed cause i genuinely had nice teachers and fellow students.
Love this video! It is so true that we younger artists bash on our old drawings ;-; One way that I found to help with the smudging, is to lay another piece of paper on top. Hope that helps!

I think I can speak for many artists, especially for beginners such as myself, that this channel is so comforting. We all struggle early on, and stress ourselves out when we don't draw out what we pictured. Daidus insight is really good though, it's true that happens but we need to continue, because it's part of the artists journey. Sometimes you feel like you're burnt out, and you can look at your older works and learn to appericiate your progress, and continue bettering your style/fundamentals etc. This channel has really made me sit down and try to achieve more, and it's inspired me beyond the general on-looking to your individual channels all those years back.
Gaia online is still alive. Went back there with my old art friends to keep connected.

I thought the matching thumbnails that you did for your inktober videos were really cool! I remember when I saw the one for week two it literally made me laugh out loud. Not only did it make me excited to watch the video, it make me excited for the upcoming inktober videos as well! It was super fun to see the continuation every week, so if you ever felt like doing something like that again... I mean...I wouldn't be mad...

Two months after the original post, finally got to watch.
I notice in a few videos Daidus says "That's Emirichu/Emily" as the only description. I think basically it's two words for "That is your unique style that is yours and yours alone that I and everyone you share it with love."
It's always difficult for a man in love to not go into crazy detail about what they mean in their wording, but rather in our minds the words are more impactful than they sound to others when spoken.
As someone who was on both Gaia Online and Maple Story (oh, Scania...), I am feeling the nostalgia. I still talk to people from both (and ones I've lost contact with, I still think about all the time).

Bruh my middle school sketchbook is full of mermaids, fairies, Fruits Basket characters, and edgy OCs too. The self deprecating writing in the corner is so real, I think it's like, at the time you know what you're doing is seen as cringe so you leave notes in the corners for anyone that might see it to let them know that you think it's trash too. Kind of like when when a middle schooler tells other kids what they like and they make fun of them for it and the kid being made fun of reluctantly agrees that their interest isn't cool to appease the group.
