  • I how-to the transmission and rear differential gear oil change with fresh Liqui Moly 75w90, install a 034 Motorsport rear sway bar and spherical end links (but first try out the process of hot bluing the steel hardware), change out the fuel filter and drain the fuel system. I also go back and sway out the Apikol rear differential mount inserts with red race bushings.

    The thoroughness of the videos are top notch, whats the book you use to find the procedure of the centre gearbox-diff oil change. Thanks

    Next time cut a small hole in the container with the lube. Connect a tube to the fill. Pressurize the container with an air line and the line will flow up into the diff.

      I follow, yeah, smart. Since doing this job - and with some similar projects coming up on the B8 - I need to up my oil fill game. I see now there are simple pumps and containers to achieve exactly what you're saying.

    Hot blueing should be done on individual components, not an assembly like your rod end links. Also never on heat treated components like high strength bolts; their strength will be compromised. Don't know the rod end specs but, they may have had PTFE or oil impregnated liners which is now burnt out and why they are loose. Shame on 034 for not supplying zinc or cad plated hardware. Rod ends are available cad plated and in stainless as well.

      Thanks for chiming in; there are plenty of times on the channel where I do know enough about a topic to give direction - and hopefully it was obvious that this was not one of those times. What I love about putting out videos is that it gives everyone a chance to learn from my victories, or mistakes. If I need to light some end links on fire and ruin them for others to know what not to do, well, I accept.

    quality video would really help if you had short video of the front gear oil change - i am al little confused doing this to my S6, is the front axel gear oil changed through the transmission oil ?

    How is the shift quality with that GL4+? Lots of questionable info going around on forums like BITOG. The Liqui Moly oil selector said both the GL4/5 hypoid gear oil and the GL4+ would work in my transmission. 🤷‍♂

      Feels great to me. I try my best to keep RPMs down for the first few minutes of driving to give all my fluids time to warm up a bit but shifting feels smooth. I'm not sure if you also have an S4 - and part of what I'm feeling is likely the mounts that I've changed on the car - but I do find the transmission to be on the loud side. It's got a whine that sounds healthy, but far beyond any normal passenger car. Regardless, fluids have been good and unless I do a flush and find speckles in my drain pan, I have to assume Liqui Moly is correct about their compatibilities and nothing is being eaten alive in the gearbox or diff.

  • @greenstar32

    Why didn't you also measure precisely how much fluid came out of the trans and rear diff first after draining them?

    I'm about to service my 04' s4 transmission too. What is the part number of the GL4+ bottle on the back? Is it p/n: 20012 I want to make sure I get the right stuff. Thanks!

    It seems that catch can stores a lot of water. How to you stop it from freezing or is that what makes it custom?

    • @DOMS4.
      @DOMS4. 2 года назад

      From Toronto here, I just remove mine for winter. It should work fine most of the time, but when the can is full in -25⁰c you'll start blowing seals.

    • @FigureItAudi
      @FigureItAudi  2 года назад

      You'll see - but yes, the Canadian climate is definitely something I had to plan around. In general terms though, there's a conceptual difference between air oil separators and catch cans and depending on which you choose, it can help alleviate the freezing issues.

    • @FigureItAudi

      The inserts? Those are from 034 Motorsport. The diff mount (singular) is Apikol.

      Never. The project continues - but unlike the Adam LZ and Rob Dahms of the world, food and shelter gets paid by my very full time real life job still. More will be coming soon on both the S4 + wagon.
