  • Ed takes an in-depth look at the Beretta Px4 Storm Compact, a double-action/single-action, hammer-fired 9mm pistol with a polymer frame.
    There's a lot to like here. The gun is reliable and accurate with minimal actual and perceived recoil for rapid target reacquisition and follow-up shots. The fit and finish on the gun is excellent, and its safety features and customizability make it a very flexible platform.
    A hearty recommendation from PGR.

    I don't quite understand why everyone is suddenly reviewing this gun now, although I'm happy to see my daily carry get more attention and respect, as it's an excellent gun, and basically the Glock of the DA/SA world, with even more reliability and without the cost cutting.
    With the resurgence of DA/SA and the rise of PCCs today, I feel like Beretta was just too ahead of their time 15 years ago when they released the Px4 and Cx4.

      Chuck went up to an old senior citizen. That’s a Beretta PX for compact storm. The gun is far better than the user deserves.

    Very easy to convert to a “G” model. Change the wing levers to slim profile, install LTT trigger bar and lighter #10 spring…takes the PX4 to a different level.

    I have the PX4 full-size with the complete LTT kit. Fantastic gun and a keeper for me. I would like the compact w/ LTT kit, but I am hoping they will do a waaaaay overdue PX4 v.2 update.

    • @keegans5695

      Unfortunately both the Px4 and Cx4 are unlikely to ever get an update, which is a shame because both should be fairy popular today with the popularity of PCCs and with DA/SAs coming back into style.
      Beretta hasn't had stock on a lot of the Px4 upgrades for a while, and will likely never restock some of them. They seem to have put all their focus into pushing the APX, likely to try and recoup development costs after not winning the MHS trials.

    Nice review. The new LTT OP trigger bar gives it a SIG SRT or PPQ-like reset. LTT now also has a 10# hammer spring. With these two upgrades alone reduced my DA pull to about 6.5-7 lbs and my SA to about 4-4.5 lbs. (sometimes pulling below 4 lbs. on my Lyman digital trigger scale). I also have the Inox model, so not having a Bruniton finish the serrations have very good traction even without relying on the controls like you pointed out. In theory it makes putting sights on easier as the Bruniton finish makes the factor sights difficult to remove. I would rather have a black gun, but it is what it is and I agree, this gun is a keeper.

    Had a chance to shoot this firearm last week and I was immediately sold on its quality and accuracy. Buying one next month. Great review by the way. You hit some points others didn’t.

    The PX4 took about 20 years to grow on me, but I believe in badly in need of a redesign. For starters, a 1913 picattiny rail, new rear sights, some finger grooves on the grip and a new slide release/catch.

    I would say the recoil spring. I believe it's polymer. I may be wrong on that. I don't remember that one. I do like the trigger in a bag. I definitely think it's worth it. But I had no complaints about the factory trigger. I also changed the cam to the SD model. Also you can get the 20 round mags too. Maybe not a upgrade but cool anyway.a

    Love that gun in the 40, however i would like to replace those huge slide release levers. Its not that big if they were more conservative with the levers. I guess they are for glove wearers or something. Still honestly no complaints with the pistol. Its the trips to the range that make it worth owning for me. Its accurate and soft shooting for a 40, the best part is the other people at the range. This pistol doesnt have the brand recognition of smith and wesson or glock. So when i pull it out of the holster or case i get alot of "what the heck is that?".

      There is a flat slide release and safety/decocker levers from Beretta. The flat slide release is only left side, though. It is designed for the full size, but it will fit the compact.

    I just bought a PX4 9mm. Like you, most reviewers of this gun do not address the "half cock" (actually more like a quarter cock) feature. A couple of reviewers state they would not carry or fire the PX4 from the half cock position, but, they give no reasoning for their opinions. My Sig P226 and HK USP Compact both decock to the half cock position and are commonly carried in and fired from this hammer setting. The owners manual does not indicate that the half cock presents any hazard. It does say, "maximum safety" is achieved with the hammer fully forward. Is there any legitimate reason I should not carry this pistol in the half cocked status?

    Is that the stock model, no upgrades? How is the OEM trigger? I’ve thought about this pistol for a long time. But everybody talks about the upgrades from LTT. Over $2000 for a polymer pistol is excessive.

    Is it safe to carry in the half-cocked position with the safety off?

    • @MMAFan20
      @MMAFan20 4 года назад +2

      It’s pointless. You increase the odds of an accidental misfire and you still have a long trigger pull. You’re better off carrying safety off one in chamber locked back on hammer. At least you have an upside there

    • @chrisf247
      @chrisf247 2 года назад

      Definitely don't carry it cocked with one in the chamber. The "half-cock" is no less safe than a CZ or hk. I wouldn't do it because you should practice decocking and shooting the full trigger pull. The decocker drops it all the way down.

    • @mdubb4855
      @mdubb4855 Год назад

      IF the red dot is covered AND you haven’t brain freezed about that and haven’t snagged one of those large safety wings THEN it can’t possibly go off even if something gets caught in the trigger guard. HOWEVER a holster is and always will be the first safety measure. NO carrying un-chambered isn’t as good, because someone might have played with it while you weren’t around, roommates and kids first instinct is to rack ‘em. (Always check for chambered round even if you carry or store unchambered).
