- I got the Amex Platinum Charge Card in India in April 2024 and wanted to share my experience on how I got it, the benefits I'm excited about, and some features I miss that have been discontinued.
From the travel benefits like airport lounge access and hotel perks to the exclusive lifestyle experiences, I'm covering it all. I'll also share my personal experience with the card, the benefits I'm looking forward to the most, and whether it's worth the annual fee.
There are some benefits that have been taken away which I'm not entirely happy about, and I'll cover those too.
Hopefully this video will help you form an opinion whether you should get this card for yourself or not. Also my voice sounds nasal in this - apologies for that, had a little cold.

If you get the Amex platinum in the US there is no forex markup fee worldwide while when you get it from India you’re charged 3.5% plus gst. That’s a big drawback i surrendered my card this year

Apple does make a card. It's called the Apple Card (ofc).. its made of titanium, is plain white with just the name etched on.. No number, cvv, exp.. its a clean white piece of metal.
Yup, I’ve seen it. It was in partnership with Marcus (Goldman’s commercial banking division) that is being scaled down. It looks pretty good

I received Taj vouchers of Rs.45k instead of 1,25,000 points by paying annual fees at the time of joining
Yes that's a common joining benefit that they offer
Isn't your point that it's no longer up to the customer to choose which of the two options they would want to choose? And how did you resolve this? Did Amex agree to give you the MR points instead of the Taj vouchers?
@@vydyjuris Called Amex to convert my Taj Vouchers to MR points. They did it and I got 125,000 points.
It’s either 60K worth Taj vouchers or 1.25 L MR points. If you opt for Taj vouchers then they initially credit only 45K worth and once you spend 50K within 60 days of card activation then the remaining 15K is given as well.
points to airline miles on this card is same as platinum travel?

Hi Pranay, wanted to check - For Amex rewards multiplier, the monthly limit for Amazon Pay or Amazon Shopping Vouchers from gftyr, is consider as limit per Amex card or cumulative for all Amex cards ? I believe, it should be for each card, but, wanted to confirm. Thanks

I received 350000 mr points as a joining bonus in australia, i have accor plus, marriott bonvoy, radison, hilton and taj, mine is a business platinum so end up getting a lot of points as all the business expense goes on it aswell.

Whats your spending strategy with Amex? I can get straight 5% cashback with SBI. How can I maximise my returns on platinum travel card.
Platinum travel card is spent for the first 4L rupees in the year only. It is not used after that.
For the platinum charge card - I'm only going to use this to spend 50K in the first 60 days. After that, won't be using this.

for 1 lakh domestic - they are now offering 15k yatra voucher. - got the mail few days ago. after devaluation of 2 guests to 1 guest - the amex lounges are much better. I like mumbai lounge more than Delhi.

Renewal benefits aren't guaranteed. The last time I had this card, i surrendered it after the first year because the renewal benefits were not good.
Can kids (6yrs)are allowed into the lounge using add on card along with primary card holder

For transactions while on vacation which card would you recommend that provides the least conversion charge?
This card gives 3X higher points on international spends. So that's about 3.75% reward rate which somewhat offsets the transaction + gst charges of ~4%

Do they insist on Aadhar card or are other IDs accepted by Amex.

Came in a few days, within a week. had to do a video kyc which was pretty straightforward

The first year benefits are great for this card, however, how would you justify the cost for the subsequent years? those 125000 MR points are given only in the first year right?
Correct. I plan to surrender the card in the second year.
What about charges of the card from next year onwards?
I will evaluate the card again at the end of the year based on what renewal benefits they offer.. most likely I'll surrender it next year
Hi...is the 125000 MR points joining benefit still being given? I got an email from Amex with link to benefits for this card and it doesn't mention about it. Also the referral link shows 10k MR points and 45k Taj stay benefits. Would be helpful if you can clarify based on your understanding of offers. Thanks
Hi, the 125000 joining benefit offer is a targeted offer and you'll get a mail regarding the same. If you haven't got the mail with this offer, and still want to get the card, then you should go via referral since that'll give you 10K points in addition to the 45k Taj vouchers.
@@pranayk37 Thanks for clarification. Yesterday, I got an email from Amex to upgrade my Platinum Travel card to Platinum Charge and they are offering 135k MR points alongwith the regular other things like 10k Taj voucher in bday month, etc. Thinking about it now
Hey Pranay, thanks for the video. I have Platinum and Travel cards, but Amex told me they can't waive the fee on the Travel card. Please do a review on Axis Reserve and how best I can make use of it.
That's strange. They waived off my platinum travel fee because I am paying for the platinum charge card.
Axis cards - I'm not a fan. I know they provide value but the customer care + devaluation lurking on the horizon make me stay away from them. I did enjoy the magnus days though 😂

Can you talk about Infinia and Plat charge? Also how is the acceptability offline and online? Is it ever an issue?

For e-commerce websites where reward multiplier works, plat charge returns are higher (5X of 1.2% = 6%)
For almost everything else, infinia’s 3.3% is best in class.
Acceptance is a challenge for sure - not as easy as Mastercard and visa. But it’s mostly accepted at restaurants, premium retail chains etc
How does the card help in the 2nd year? Can you do a rough worthiness calculation for 2nd yr?
Entirely depends on the renewal benefit that they give you. The closer it gets to 60K in value, the better. Though I don't think it'll make sense

Travel platinum has milestone benefits on hitting 4 lac rupees. Platinum charge doesn't. With the milestone benefits, one can get benefits worth ~30K INR on spending 4L, which is the incremental benefit over a platform charge card. Hope that helps. Tldr: plat travel has ~8% reward rate till 4 lacs and play travel has ~1.2%

My mothers just got her platinum travel card and I plan to take one of the complimentary cards they give to build my cibil. Currently a CA trainee at a bank with a stipend of 60k. Was thinking of going for this card post-qual. Also, would you have any idea of the amex black card and its benefits?
Amex black card is a black box very few know about. I'm definitely not one of those. Apparently it's an invite only card for those who spend 1Cr in a year across Amex cards, but it's all hearsay

Hi, I've covered this in the "favourite credit card" video on the channel, you can see it there. Tldr is that you can prioritise the first 4L spends every year on amex plat travel card. I use it on categories like insurance, ecommerce, fuel
Do we get any discount in flight bookings through amex platinum?
Sometimes they have better rates but not guaranteed. Also they only have vistara and air india and not the low cost carriers
Is Marriot Bonvoy different from Club Marriot membership? Out of these 2, for which one can you redeem the points?
Marriott bonvoy is a free to join loyalty program. Club Marriott is a paid membership that you buy with a hotel to get access to benefits at the hotel and some benefits at the overall Marriott group. Not entirely comparable
I got the Club Mariott with HDFC DCB, is it of any use and can it be clubbed with MR pts?

Thanks for your comment. In all honesty, if you're a swiggy user - maybe consider the HDFC swiggy card. I use it and it works well for me with 10% CB upto 1500 in a month. Not sure whether it's FD backed or not.
For plat travel, you can prioritise the first 4L Rs spends on it every year. Insurances, ecommerce,.fuel,.etc
I attended a yoga session with a wonderful lunch arranged as an event by Amex for their plat charge card members

Just like how they've forgotten to send me the bag 😂 it has been two months almost!
And the concierge is ok, i wouldn't get the card for the concierge alone

hey, did you happen to avail their concierge service? if so, how was your experience?
So the concierge is well spoken and very helpful. I found them useful for complex travel itineraries. However I did try and ask them for some "exclusive" items - for example, a hard to get watch, and they weren't able to do anything. Hence while it's good to have, I wouldn't get this card for the concierge.
In India the Amex concierge isn’t that great. They can only do routine tasks

What feature are you most excited about?
Actually I’m interested in MRCC card and I’ve heard a lot about the great reward points from my colleagues in the states. Not sure if this will translate in India 🤷🏻♂️.
can you tell about the concierge services?
Concierge services are decent. Found them most useful for complex travel bookings which have multi city itineraries. Apart from that they can’t really get you money can’t buy experiences that they talk about. If you want to use them to send stuff, the fee is quite high and you’re better off sending it yourself. They speak really well and are smarter than other concierge.
Tldr; I won’t get the card just for the concierge.
Since when is the Marriott x Amex Q4 bonus reward scheme in function.

Yes, that's a great benefit. Except haircut isn't something I'm particularly in need of 😂 which is why I didn't mention it, because I'm only covering benefits that I'm excited about!
The 1.25L points are for the first year only right? How does the renewal cost justifies itself from the second year onwards?

Does credit rating get affected when you surrender the card? Wouldn't this affect your chance of receiving this card again in the future?
This is the second time I'm getting this card. Credit card rating takes a small hit but nothing major, especially if the card is not something you've held for a long time. You should however think twice before surrendering your oldest standing card.
