Eh, Unless you already are using Uber, drinking at Dunkin and eating at Five Guys regularly, this card is not worth it.

    • @anonymoose2474

The credits are dumb but the card is still easily worth it. An Amex setup is still super high value if you know what you're doing. Green and everyday preferred might be a better options for some people now, but generally still extremely worth it, especially if you dont really buy food out and mostly only eat at home

    • @scottshapiro2795

Exactly. I really want to get into the Amex ecosystem, but they're credits don't make sense for my spending. For the gold, I don't drink coffee, rarely ever take Uber, never get Uber eats, and don't really eat fast food burgers.

Everything isn't meant for you, the card is meant for a younger crowd who very likely uses Uber Eats or Grubhub and likes to travel aka my gen. Its not even something new its been known for a while that amex has been trying to and successfully attracting new/young cardholders. Even without that, the insurance alone makes he gold worth it. Hey John, I been a fan for a long time but I felt off about this review. To say that this is the best card of the year is an over statement. The main appeal of this card was always about the 4% groceries and restaurants. The extra credit was a nice bonus but you shouldn’t make extra purchase just to make the card justify. I felt like it’s just a more expensive version of the previous gold card. I hope your enthusiasm about this card is pure and not due to any under the table deal to promote the card.

For 5% cashback grocery, I've been using AAA's credit card (you don't have to be a member) which is up to $10k per year (I'm personally not going to go over this). Dining is a bit more difficult, but I use the Redstone FCU one which is up to $7k per year. If you happened to go over the limits, there is a mobile wallet category of 5% up to $3k per year for the USBank Kroger/Harris Teeter cards. • @anthonygardner400

Love the energy. However, the $99 rant is way overdone. Saying that the dining credits are easy is only accurate if you live in a city with Dunkin (try to find one in Seattle) and one that has Resy restaurants (many don’t). Also, there is a reason that many people, including major credit card RUclipsrs are canceling the card. Having to take actions you wouldn’t normally take, like going to Shake Shack monthly, is gimmicky and annoying. And the value has to be compared to value you can get with alternative cards with much lower or no fees. Bottom line: a bit more balance in presentation would be nice. Your videos are great, but this one misses.

The Dunkin' credit is not useful for me, but I have already used the Resy credit. I happen to use Rest quite a bit for my weekend dining adventures. The $100 Rest credit plus the 240 in other credits which I use each month, means I am still net positive with the new annual fee - which will not hit my acct until next summer. (Savings ?= good thing) != Being paid
Should add a small caveat that it's technically, you potentially save more than you spend on the fee.
Say Apple card figures it out, charges a 500 dollar annual fee, but gives a 800 dollar statement credit yearly towards a new iphone. (Up to 200 per phone)
You werent getting paid 300 dollars each year if you are a crazy person who buys 4 new iphones each year, you paid 1000+1000+1000+1000+500-800= 3700 dollars for 4 iPhones, aka a 10% discount, which could be nice if you were otherwise going to spend 4000 every year buying the new iphone for yourself and your family, but it would obviously not be for everyone.

Is the 20% in statement credits on restaurants in the first 6 months considered a SUB or just the 60/90 K points? I already have the platinum and ineligible for lower tier card SUBs.

Wish the RESY credit was monthly, and they should add a basic Priority Pass Select to the card. Pay for access, but at least the option is there.

So, there's no Dunkin in Utah, but there's one coming soon. I didn't think I'd ever use the credit, but I heard you can reload a Dunkin card in the app and it'll count. So, instead of going out of my way, whenever I'm close or on vacation, I'll get a good-sized breakfast for me and my wife. Resy is actually harder for me now. There's only a handful of restaurants in Utah on Resy. However, we'll travel and I can make a trip into SLC once every 6 months to go out for a fancy meal. The math will still work out.

I upgraded my Gold to the Platinum last year when they offered me 100k to upgrade. Now wondering if they’ll give me another gold. Contrary to everything I’ve heard, I had a Gold Business card. I upgraded to the Platinum for 120k bonus. Several months later, they offered me 150K to get the gold business again. I received TWO different SUBs on the Business Gold. Maybe I’ll try getting the personal Gold again…

You are forcec to spend money on overpriced food unless you are already using uber, grub and eat at the resy restaurants. The getting paid argument argument is false.

Hello to everyone, Im new to this American system I'm from Europe and I would like to know more about all the 424$ crédits (Dunkin rest etc).
Are these free things like you just go to a Dunkin, you claim it and it's free or is it like you have less interest on these purchases ?
And also, what's the way to claim these crédits ? Just paying them and the card detects when you are eligible for it ?
Thanks in advance for the answers 🙏

Id say this is only worth it if you use absolutely all of its credit benefits and you live on the east side to get a dunkin breakfast sandwich as youre already on your way to some other location (bc at that point you're wasting gas).
But if you dont use Resy you could also be breaking even. And at that point youre opting in for amex's reputation and customer seevice and such

I don't like being pushed into spending habits that I don't necessarily already have. Are there any services that look at your past year's credit card bills, compare your spending and their categories against all the credit cards and their offers and find the best card or cards for you? I wouldn't even mind if it also included cards and said "if you spend just 'x' amount more in a certain category..."

For my lifestyle, I don't see this card saving me money. I would have to spend more money than I normally would have just to get these benefits which definitely won't outweigh the savings had I just not changed my lifestyle.

  • @KParks

Dining credit is too restrictive. Other than Dunkin, five guys is gross and I'm not dragging myself to a mediocre cheesecake factory just to use credits. For the few people that love scarfing down that five guys slop and and can use all the credits no problem it's definitely a good deal.

Question: I just enrolled my Gold Card Rest benefit, but it's rather unclear whether I go to a restaurant listed in Resy's app and I just pay my bill with the Gold Card or I have to make a reservation in Resy and then pay the bill with Gold Card. This is what the enrollment confirmation says: "You can now receive up to $50 in statement credits after you use the American Express Gold Card to dine at U.S. Resy restaurants or make other eligible Resy purchases." Do you know?

    • @shinjy911
      @shinjy911 2 месяца назад

Just use your card to pay.
As long as that restaurant is in Resy, Amex figures out and gives you the credit.

Getting value from a card is work, but this isn't work. Researching the best travel redemptions is work. Trying to time your vacations for maximum value is work. Trying to balance your credit cards and use the best ones for each circumstance is work
Spending money you wouldn't have already spent is not work, it's just spending more money. So only Amex wins in this situation.
Don't act like using credits is work. If they fit into your daily spend then it's not really work as you were spending anyway. If they don't fit into your daily spend, it's just wasting money.
